Price: The price is okay. Not overly expensive but the portions are a little small for the price. At least for the items I purchased. Atmosphere: It was clean and family friendly. Customer Service: They did everything we requested (fry our green onions, get us more bowls, etc) except for checking on our water (we had to ask twice for water). Food: Overall, it was pretty good. I had fried flour cake with egg, Vietnamese style papaya salad, crispy seafood chow fun (pho ap chao), and rice noodle beef stew. I really like the pho ap chao here because it's just the way I like it. The seafood concoction could do with less corn starch though. The flour cake with egg definitely keeps me coming back. I tried to make it at home and it turned out a mess. For being the only place to have good flour cake, I gave this place a four, but overall, I would only give a 3.5 because like most Vietnamese restaurants, the customer service is lacking. read more

Pho soup is great and savoury. The beef tendon is my number 1 go to. I ordered a large pho dac biet #1 (with tai, nam, gau, gan, sach...). The large was enough for two. The food here was very good and genuine. The service was pretty good. However, on Yelp it says that they accept credit when they however do not. There is an ATM to withdraw cash though. The Vietnamese coffee, I wish it had come with a filter that was in the making rather than having already been made and thrown in a cup for me. I had the rice with BBQ pork. Everything was delicious and the proportions were big, which is awesome! However, if there was just a bit more fish sauce or if it was a bit saltier. A nice unexpected surprise. I ordered the #17, chicken and liver with noodle soup. Chicken meat was lean, tender and still had skin. Liver was great, like grandma use to make. Fiancé ordered #46, BBQ chicken and fried egg on rice. BBQ chicken was moist with lots of flava. Egg was crispy on the outside and runny on the inside. thai tea with boba was pretty good too. The food was so flavorful & delicious. I had the fried chicken pho. The broth was so good on its own, I didn't need to add any spices or shoyu. The chicken, vegetables & noodles in the soup were perfect. We also had the fried chow fun with chicken and the fish (make your own spring rolls style). I had been craving bun bo hue for a long time now and when my friends and I finally ended up here, I was so excited. Unfortunately, the bun bo hue here was just okay. It sadly wasn't flavorful as the broth was a little bland and I attempted to fix this by adding hot sauce. It somewhat satisfied my craving but I was a little disappointed. Portion size is huge though so that's a star right there. However, my friends ordered the Cha Ca La Vong (grilled fish) and it was soooo delicious. Rolling it in rice paper and dipping in fish sauce was seriously so good. I wish I had gotten that instead. Seeing that this place had an overall 4 star rating, I was really looking forward to trying it out for the first time. My friend and I shared an order of spring rolls, which tasted great paired with their peanut sauce! As for our actual meal, we were utterly disappointed. My friend had their bo luc lac, and by the texture and smell of the beef cubes, we definitely knew that it was "old" beef. The pho that I ordered was nothing special-- the broth was missing its flavor and my meal came out lukewarm. To top it off, I found a hair twirled up in one of the tendons, and when I addressed the matter to the two waiters that came by to me, they shrugged it off and walked away with a "sorry." I have a feeling that they probably laughed it off as soon as left the restaurant, but I really hope they took the matter into consideration to ensure that a problem like that never occurs in their kitchen again. I came to Thien Long late on on weeknight and the place must be very popular as it was almost packed. Being a Caucasian that loves pho, I wasn't familiar with the cha ca la vong. Seeing it was the most frequent item ordered and after reading other Yelper reviews, I'll come back to try it next time. I'm the man on the search for the perfect bowl of pho. For me, this place was just A-OK in the pho department. My order was for #5 which is the well done brisket and hard flank. The broth was good, yet not great. The price was a typical $6.95 for a regular bowl. When I come back and if I'm thrilled with their cha ca la vong specialty, I'll up the rating from three stars. We ordered Lai Thien Long, if you never ate shabu shabu its a hot pot with side dishes of prawns, squid, beef, filet fish, vegetables, and a choice of noodle. We chose the rice noodle. It also came with a sauce with onions in it and a side of lettuce, all for $19.95. I think we thought it would be like a stir fry but it ended up as a soup. It was still good and really filling. It was ok nothing that impress me, I felt like the noodle and sea food was not fresh, eventhough it was pretty early in the morning. A few days later I came back for breakfast before I go to work, I ordered beef stew with french bread, Again the stew seems like it was made weeks ago, into the third bite, found a pretty large piece of plastic wrap melted in to the stew, I was discussted and walked out. There food is pretty good here with a good portion size!!! There is 2 things I always order. First is their Banh Bot Chien (Flour Cake w/ Egg). So my friend and i were looking for a place to eat on a Sunday night at around 11 pm and fortunately for us, this place was open. This place has great ambience unlike the last Vietnamese restaurant I reviewed. This restaurant is clean and well decorated. The customer service was pretty good. I periodically got water refilled. I ordered yet another rice plate with shrimp and broccoli. It was very good. I really need to go back sometime when I feel the need for pho. The prices for all the food is very reasonable and mostly under $10. It seems like a great place to eat with friends since I saw a couple groups of people just chilling around and eating. We came in pretty close to closing time, but I can imagine this place getting pretty noisy during the day with the number of people arriving and the TVs on. I'll say again that I need to come back. My parents used to always take me to this restaurant as a kid when it was still a small business inside Grand Century. Of course for their infamous Cha Ca La Vong. I however would always order their shaking beef or broken rice entree. Now that I've grown up, my family doesn't eat out much anymore so I haven't been back to this restaurant in over 10+ years. Came back the other day for their Pho Ap Chao because my boyfriend likes that dish and I now as well. I ordered for myself a small bowl of Bun Rieu Cua Oc and honestly, I've had better. It was sort of bland with barely anything in the bowl. I like it when the broth is rich in flavor and it just didn't make the cut here. Their Cha Ca is great and probably their best offer. The servers are rude and loud however. We came in about 45 minutes before they closed. Mmmm... Banh Xeo and the fish on a sizzling platter are quite good. I went here once with my mom and wasn't all that impressed. We ordered the beef on the sizzling platter with rice wrapper and it was just mediocre. But, we went here again when the relatives were in town and they were able to accomodate nine of us (though we did have to wait for quite a while...), and the food tasted much better. They didn't get my 5* because the avocado bubble tea was horrible (maybe it's my fault for ordering it here..., the bubbles were undercooked, and the avocado was too green and still a bit bitter). I've been going over the hill to SJ for pho for a couple years now and how did I not discover this restaurant until now?! I've tried a lot of pho restaurants in SJ but this restaurant has pretty solid pho and bun bo hue that makes me want to keep coming back! The broth is just right unlike other places where you'd have to drown your pho in fish sauce bc it'd be too bland. Portions and prices were fair. I was a little hesitant about trying their Bun Bo Hue but I must say it was one of the better BBH I've had compare to the actually restaurants that specialize in BBH. It wasn't too oily or too pungent and the blood actually tasted good! If you're a bun bo hue fan I'd def recommend you try it at this place. This restaurant has now became my go-to pho restaurant in SJ. read more
