Cute cute cute cafe located in the heart of the North End. This area on Hanover is known as Little Italy and the street is lined with eclectic Italian restaurants. This cafe was such a gem. Many students were actually studying and visiting with their friends. It does not carry a Starbucks feel, its more of a small cafe feeling with character. The employees have great customer service and want to make sure you leave happy. On a chilly day, make sure to stop in this cafe and get your favorite drink, take a break from life and enjoy. read more

Love the thinking cup but there a few things that kinda stink. There is no WiFi and I went there with the intention of doing things on my laptop, I ended up using the hotspot on my phone. There are barely any outlets so I had to sit at the bar to charge my laptop which was a little annoying. I only got a quad ice mocha, but it was perfect. Stumptown coffee espresso is top notch and the chocolate isnt the typical cheap hershey syrup. It definitely had a bit of a bitter bite. The pastries and desserts looked anazing, especially the boston creme pie. Went again the next day and got a hot, quad mocha. Yes, still 5 stars. read more

Great place for a delicious but casual lunch. We ducked in out of a rainstorm and were greeted by the cool but comfortable ambience and friendly staff. All three sandwiches we tried were great - I especially recommend the Jittery. Way better than the typical coffeeshop fare you'd expect. Their selection of pastries is another highlight, including filled-to-order cannoli. Definitely worth checking out for drinks AND food! read more

I have been to this Thinking Cup 100 plus times. Overall is a really great coffee shop that offers a great food menu and offers Counter Culture coffee. Atmosphere: A great sized cafe with lots of seating. If you have a large party, you will be able to all sit together and drink great coffee and have some awesome deserts! If you are trying to work on your laptop, the outlets are limited but there are some. The biggest down side if you are working here is there is no wifi. Product: The consistency for their beverages is about average. Sometimes the Chai is not as strong as it usually is or the espresso is lacking in their latte's, which is why I am taking off one star. This happens probably every five visits. Their desert selection is amazing. Try their chia seed pudding for a superfood desert! Their sandwiches are also amazing. Came here for the cappuccino and was very impressed. I usually go to cafe vittoria up the street so I thought I would try something new. The thinking cup has a very cool vibe. It's kind of hipster. It is a lot bigger then cafe vittoria and they have had a long booth and stools you can sit at. There is not waitress service though. You order at the counter and pick up your food or drinks at the end of the counter. The women who waited on me was very nice. The cappuccino was very good and had a little bit of a different flavor then cafe vittoria. I think it is a little smaller though for more money haha. They do beautiful art on the drinks though. Mine came with a heart. It was so cute. I am a local so I will be back soon! read more

I loved the vibe of this place, and the menu looked great as well. I was just stopping in for a cup of coffee to warm my hands from the frigid wind. This was a great place to do it. They serve regular brew coffee as well as a pour-over and a siphon brew. I wish I had seen this prior to ordering as I would have gladly tried one of these, even for $5. I went to the downtown location a few times and was thrilled when I heard they were putting one a block away from my house. There are four words you need to know before you visit this place. "Hazelnut latte. Grilled cheese." Their coffee products are all great. I appreciate that they do pour-overs in addition to regular drip coffee and espresso drinks. The hazelnut latte is what shines though. They sprinkle hazelnut crumbs on top and it just totally makes the drink. Amazing. Grilled cheese is one of my favorite things to eat so its not really a surprise that I love this place. Pick a bread, pick a cheese, pick any other toppings.. whats better than a MYO grilled cheese? My favorite is a simple havarti on sourdough. So melty and delicious! I've had the pleasure of trying a few of their other pastries and I've never been dissapointed. From the banana bread to the sticky buns to their giant peanut butter cookies.. they've all been great. EXCELLENT COFFEE!!!!! I had a cappuccino with a delicious egg and cheese on a croissant. The croissant was perfectly flakey, buttery and delicious. Always stuffy in here, my husbands eyes puff up after sitting there. The air in there makes me nauseous. And to top off that experience, our clothes smell terrible for the rest of the day from being in there. We try not to go there early in the day for that reason. Now that we're wearing winter jackets we've been trying to avoid that place all together since our jackets end up smelling like Thinking Cup (Not a compliment) for weeks. I've been trying to hold off writing this review because stuffiness and smelliness can be an occasional thing that I wouldn't want to label the restaurant for, but it's really every time and it's intense. When I walked in and saw the classic Italian pastries at the new Thinking Cup, my first thought was "Not cool, this is going to be bad for every little mom 'n' pop shop in this 'hood." Then I remembered that everything is totally overpriced and felt better. Then, I bought a $5 almond milk hazelnut latte and felt best. Thinking Cup doesn't really fit in to the North End vibe, but it's refreshing to have a big place to hang out in the area... and somewhere with almond milk. Plus, it gives you the option to eat something that isn't Italian if you so desire (but maybe just GFTO of the North End if you feel that way.) Overall, like/dislike relationship with the new location, but ultimately glad that Thinking Cup is proliferating. Congrats, y'all. read more

In an attempt to evade some of the oppressive heat bearing down on us on a sunny Saturday morning, the girl and I ducked into Thinking Cup to kill a little time and grab a quick cup of java. Unbeknownst to us, Thinking Cup was probably one of the most enjoyable spots we could have ducked into. The iced coffee was excellent, and the Tiramisu (even if it was sourced in from one of the copious bakery options available at their disposal) was quite tasty. Cute coffee shop in North End with good coffee and pastries! I was visiting Boston with my sister and we were pleased to find local coffee shops instead of the usual Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. We went to Thinking Cup twice during our stay and I was able to try a few things there. I had the hazelnut latte, iced chai tea latte, lemon poppy seed scone, and one of their savory pastries. I really liked the hazelnut latte and would recommend trying it; they use 'freshly roasted hazelnut paste' which is pretty cool. Service is only ok depending on the barista. The first time the service wasn't very friendly but we had a better experience the second time around. read more

How lovely! I traverse the Continental 48 on a redeye flight from PDX to BOS. I've just ridden on a turbulence tossed plane, my shoulder and head bumped multiple times by people walking to and fro the aisle of the plane. It's 7AM Eastern, my body clock is screaming 4 AM Pacific!! I'm exhausted, I'm about to keel over. I need some of that sweet caffeine!! Whilst walking down Hanover Street in the North End.. looking for a mom and pop/ quirky non corporate mall coffee shop that is open at 7 in the morning. We see a steady stream of folks walking into this non-descript, shop.. and decide to take a chance. *rolling the dice* And we get 7's and 11's!!!! What a find!! The sweet aroma of Stumptown Coffee.. more over, the Siphon Brew.. I must find this here in Portland, Oregon. The Siphon brew is so worth the wait. No paper filter taste, all roasted coffee berries and hot water. Their pastries selection is pretty good (given it's proximity to Modern Pastry Shop). I must come here again for my coffee fix the next time I come to Boston. read more
