Solid-ly OK. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. We got there around 6pm, and the place was not too busy. We were seated upstairs, We each got a cocktail - mine was pretty good, the "spilling ribbons"! Sweet but not cloyingly sweet. For our food, we ordered 4 items to share between us. The first to come out was the Salmon Crudo. This was just ok. The "toppings" that were on the salmon were arguably better than the salmon itself. I really liked the puffed rice, but when puffed rice is the star, something is up!. The salmon was cut pretty thick, and I had 2 pieces that were distinctly fishy in flavor. So, I am not sure if the cut in general was not as clean / precise as it should be? Second was the steak tartare. This was good! No complaints here. It comes served on a toasted slice of hearty bread. I really liked the smokiness that the bread lended to each bite. Third was the chargrilled oysters (hatch chile). These were good, but nothing to write home about. I wanted there to be maybe a stronger pickled pepper flavor, or maybe spiciness? Last entree was the crispy rock shrimp. These are basically popcorn shrimp, tossed with a honey / vaguely asian-ish glaze. These were just ok. I wished they were spicier, or maybe had more of a calamansi sourness (calamansi is listed as an ingredient in the sauce but I couldn't taste it at all!). Lastly, we finished up with a dessert. We ordered the strawberry semifreddo. What we actually received was a block of strawberry ice!!! OK, maybe I am exaggerating, but this dish certainly did not need to be as cold as it was. It was borderline impossible to get your spoon into. Everytime you would put your spoon on it, it would slide around and MAYBE break off a tiny piece for you to eat. It is a shame, because the flavor was good. It was filled with lots of fresh strawberry pieces, and a creamier base ice cream flavor. Overall, it was just ok. This place made my day. We had a party of three at 6:30PM on a Thursday; we were seated right away. Christine was our waitress, and knew right away how to sway the table. We ordered the oysters (the west coast are my favorite; the smaller ones), Steak Tartare (fan favorite!), lobster pot pie, and the scallops. All portions were perfect. The scallops... so delicious. The lobster pot pie is in a league of its own. Christine told us that if there was anything on the menu that you should get; that would be it. Food was rich and "beautiful". Seafood is brought in fresh every week. Layout of the restaurant is a lot like Sake Tumi, yet a bit fancier. Although, one of us still came here in jeans, and felt alright! I wasn't aware I could love a restaurant as much as Third Coast Provisions until I went. Holy cow, this place is amazing. We went on a Friday night for a late dinner and were greeted by a dimly lit dining room: kind of fancy, but not too much. We sat upstairs in the back and got a bottle of wine for the table. We ended up splitting a bunch of items from the menu, such as mussels, blue crab pimento bites, and rock shrimp. Everything we ordered was excellent! Our service was rather good and our waiter was very attentive with making sure our food came out and that we had enough wine. On our way out, I was talking to the host and he mentioned that they had a downstairs bar too, which looked really cool. He said it's more of a happy hour place, but they have plenty of food too. Third Coast is such a great name for this place. It should evoke thoughts of seafood, because that's where they excel. My wife and I started with a seafood tower. The only time I've had oysters that were as good was in Seattle during peak season. I'm thoroughly impressed with their procurement. You'd swear Milwaukee was situated on the ocean, because the oysters truly tasted like the sea. Crab croquettes were delicious, as were the much-reviewed lobster potholes. Meh. Limited menu, and pricey for what you get. The waiter was prompt and friendly, as well as well informed. We ordered a dozen oysters which arrived promptly. Oddly they were incredibly stingy with the condiments. Tons of horseradish (delish!!!), but hardly any cocktail sauce. As in 3 oysters in the tiny cup was empty. In a similar vein, the lobster potholes were good, but the dish came with a tiny partial loaf. We were immediately asked if we wanted more bread, which clearly we would need. After a second serving of bread there was easily a third of the dish still left. We ended up scooping it out with the tiny spoon and eating it straight. Not sure what they expect with such unbalanced serving. Guess we were looking for something more substantial. read more

Third Coast takes the small plate concept into the realm of Neptune with a number of delicious treats from the sea. Upscale in decor, presentation, quality and price you'll want to put that sport coat or cocktail dress on for your visit here. Our service was prompt and courteous and our server was attentive throughout the night. Third Coast uses the team concept to deliver the food when it's available, which worked well as we ordered multiple times through the evening. As for the food, the dishes and cocktails are creative and combine flavors that aren't always found together in the ocean (unless there's an undersea deli selling pastrami, which makes several menu appearances!). The food is very rich. Both the lobster potholes and the lobster mac and cheese were over the top in butter and creaminess and almost too much (and actually the mac and cheese was too rich and came home home with us). A fried oyster slider with pork belly pastrami and a spicy slaw was delicious but almost impossible to taste the oyster through all the other flavors piled on it. In fact, my only complaint is that several of the dishes (including the salted caramel creme brûlée, which was way too salty) or overburdened with flavors and ingredients that overshadow the main ingredient of the dish. A little more simplicity and cleaner flavors would be appreciated. read more

I've been to Third Coast 2x now, and all I have to say is wow. This has quickly become one of my very favorite restaurants in Milwaukee, Third Coast has a beautiful, vaguely-nautical, ambiance, that starts with the front door (nice touch having a porthole window). The service is friendly and efficient, and every item I have had has been outrageously good. Recently I came with some colleagues for a pre-show dinner. The top 2 floors were full (we had no reservation), so we sat in the basement. At first, this was a bit of a disappointment, as the basement is not nearly as beautiful as the rest of the restaurant. However, any pain was quickly alleviated when we saw about the taco and drink specials that are only available downstairs. We had some delicious tuna tacos (pictured), 2 rounds of wonderful cocktails, and then I had their gigantic lobster pot pie (pictured). Ate the entire dish myself, and I could have had more, it was that good. They were great about getting us our food/drinks quickly, so we could make our show, which we really appreciated (considering we only had about 50 minutes). The only thing to note is that their food is on the pricier side. Now, it's worth every penny, as this is excellent seafood, but just expect that going in. Third Coast Provisions is a welcome addition to the Milwaukee food scene, and quickly has risen to be near, if not at, the top. Go here at your next opportunity. read more

Not that impressed. Incongruous experience - a lovely candlelit dining area but some staff were wearing raggedy jeans and flannel shirts, and others were wearing sleek professional looking black tops. Pricey wine and cocktails. Our waiter was friendly and fairly knowledgeable, but started rattling off his recommendations for our entire meal when we had not asked for any recommendations. Service timing was inconsistent - food and beverages seemed to arrive in no particular order. We enjoyed the Potholes appetizer and the ability to soak our bread in the delicious broth. We enjoyed the Pumpkin Gnocchi. The Udon Noodles were a major disappointment. The beef tenderloin was tough and chewy. Although cilantro was not listed as an ingredient, the dish was 'garnished' with 3/4 cup of the stuff. All I could taste was cilantro. I did complain and was offered a different meal. I declined and 1/2 of the price was removed. And no, I don't have the cilantro 'gene' . Three quarters cup of cilantro is too much. My dining companion had salmon which he enjoyed. There was a long wait between dinner and dessert. We paid the extra 3% health insurance supplement, but with these menu prices, I don't see why the owners can't pay for their employees' Health insurance. read more

This place was fantastic from the moment we made a reservation a couple nights ago. A group of us was traveling from Madison for a show; the restaurant was able to finagle a few other seatings around to make room for us. That is service! Upon entering the restaurant, I felt an immediate sense of cozy. The weather outside was rainy and cold, but inside was warm and smelled of warm bread and savory spices. We sat down at a table close to the bar, but never once did we feel interrupted. Our server was fabulous from the beginning. Our meal started with a small plate of Parker House Rolls that came out warm and with the best side of cheddar butter I've ever eaten. I ordered the kimchi chargrilled oysters, which were served with a side of crusty bread, and the 3CP greens. Our table ordered a bottle of wine that was recommended by the server. My only disappointment was when I ordered my greens, I asked for the dressing on the side, yet my salad came dressed. However, I always feel like you can tell a good chef when a salad is dressed perfectly. In this case it was, so I have no complaints about the mix-up. If I am ever in downtown MKE again for an evening show and in the mood for paying the price for good fish, this restaurant will be at the top of my list! read more

We got the crudo sampler with salmon, tuna, and scallops. The scallops were probably one of the best I had ever had, highly recommend. We were in the very upper portion of the dining room, which was stuffy and not that charming. We did a small plates approach, and the food was good, but not amazing. The Ahi crudo didn't have the flavors balanced in a way that worked. Portions of the jalapeño still had seeds and other portions didn't - I imagine it's supposed to be one way or the other to control the heat. The other foods... Like the lobster potholes and the lobster Mac and cheese were just so heavy with butter and cream that there was little chance to enjoy the flavor of the seafood. It was our first time dining out in a while and needed a new place for date night. I've been dying to try Third Coast Provisions and it did not disappoint. The staff went above and beyond, from when I made the reservation all the way through the night until we left. I would recommend the Steak Tartare, it was so lush and melts in your mouth. Second visit and everything perfect again. The salmon crudo was beautifully presented and delicious. The halibut came with a creamy risotto with spring peas and pickled fennel that were like a flavor bomb. The scallops with warm potato salad were also incredible. It's fun exploring all the great food Milwaukee has to offer. The adventures continue. Walked into a nice bright space and friendly staff. A Seafood focused menu with delicious options along with nice beer, wine and cocktail selection. It was the one year anniversary so a trio of appetite were offered for free so of course we said yes...to be honest I don't remember all the names but all three were delicious. For the main course we ordered the lobster pot pie! If your a lobster fan this is a MUST. I had the King Crab and sweet leek bruschetta and the 3CP greens. All of the flavors worked and ingredients were fresh. With seafood, some restaurants are hit or miss with freshness. We had another obligation so we're unable to try their deserts but the options were tempting and we will definitely be back. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant in MKE brought to us by the Merriment Social Club team. The food specifically the Well specifically all of the small (seafood) plate were spectacular. The Crudo combo plate of tuna, scallops and salmon are as as good as any sushi I've had. The cocktails are excellent and their wine selection is spot on. I considered rounding the score up due to the food quality and room sadly I couldn't because the service didn't match them. Our server was nice enough and knowledgeable but she was a little too scarce. On the plus side the dishes arrived VERY quickly. If you're looking for an excellent grownup date night restaurant or his is it! "Indulge" for dessert is also just down the street. read more

A split Lobster Pot Pie was enormous and wonderful. Flavorful and tender Lobster with a rich and savory sauce in the pie. We also ordered the Parkerhouse Rolls - fresh, warm and came with a honey butter that was great. A shared bottle of Pinot Noir was a great compliment to our tasty meal - and a gain our server was excellent in advising us in our drink options. This spot is super cool. Love the vibe here-- we sat downstairs and it was like being in a very swanky basement (but in a good way!) The food was amazing. First of all, everything on the menu sounded delicious. So, after deliberating with myself on what to get for awhile, I ultimately decided on the ravioli, filet mignon, and cornbread. I also got the HOHO for dessert because who am I to deprive myself of a sweet treat?! When I tell you the ravioli is life changing, I swear on Beyoncé I am not lying or being dramatic! The HOHO was pretty underwhelming. Filet Mignon was excellent! My qualms lie with the "cornbread". It quite literally should not be called cornbread because it's just like this thin, flavorless slice of air that comes with this delicious sea salt whipped butter! Great service- knowledgeable and VERY attentive staff- great selection of seafood- most was wild caught on the menu, one of our dishes was the "whole fish" which varies but the white fish tonight was imported from Greece and super fresh. The other dish was the lobster pot pie- extra savory- two very contrasting dishes yet complementary in their own ways. Decent local beer, no draft lines though. We've been here a couple of times and neither time was very memorable. First time around we were a party of 4. We started with a few appetizers, including oysters and the tuna crudo. Tuna was good, but small portion. Oysters were tasty. Service friendly but timing was a bit off. I had the salmon, friend had the branzino, and I don't really remember the other entrees. Cocktails were good, food seemed fresh but not great in terms of seasoning and prep. We went again with just the two of us and sat at the bar. Service was flustered. We ordered quite a few starters. The were pretty timely. Oysters were good, salmon crudo was boring, steak tartare was a plentiful paste but not very tasty and it was very mushy--no other texture to break it up. Our entree that we ordered was missed...as in it was ordered and not put in. When we checked about 10 minutes later we realized the server never put in the order. We decided to call it at that and left to have our dinner elsewhere. read more

It was so delicious and full of flavor. My mom got the lobster roll slider(which is small i.e. "Slider) and wished that she had ordered a taco too. Everyone's a chef... I don't write many reviews. Lack of time, lack of patience to actually sit down and write these things. However, after one of the co-owners stopped by our table last night, I felt that if he can take the time to do that, then I can take the time to write review his establishment. My wife and I had reservations at 6:45 and were made a few minutes late trying to navigate around the trolley construction and find a parking spot. No worries, they didn't even flinch when we walked in 10 minutes late during a busy time. Our server, Billy, introduced himself and stated, "I won't let you order too much!" Which was good because TCPs lengthy, but not overwhelming menu gave us a lot to think about. We started off with a couple of their craft cocktails. The wife had a vodka rhubarb thing and I had the Tuscan Leather a tasty bourbon craft cocktail. We tried each others and both declared that we were glad we ordered what we did. We told Billy our four choices: steak tartare, crudo tasting, ahi tuna salad, and scallops. Steak Tartare-lots of depth here from the eggs and capers and whatever other goodness was in there, but kept getting an overwhelming hit/burn of salt. Not enough to send it back, but enough to say something. Billy stated that he has gotten that complaint before. The co-owner, Camerin, said that is how he likes it, with salt mixed in the meat as well as crunchy sea salt on top. I love salt, but this was a little over the top. Whatever, we at every last morsel so it couldn't have been that bad, right? Crudo Tasting-salmon, scallop, and ahi tuna with each getting their own sauces and garnishes. This was delicious! My favorite was the salmon and I really don't care for salmon. It was pared with a creamy dill dressing that just made it taste wonderful! Another reviewer had stated that the scallops were a bit fishy. I agree. As you will see later, I order the scallops, but in this form, they were not as appealing as their cooked brothers and sisters. Again, delicious overall. Ahi Tuna Salad-My wife is an ahi tuna freak. She makes me make it at home often and orders it whenever it is on a menu when we go out. Her salad included lettuce and seaweed and was tossed lightly in a light vinaigrette. The tuna was clearly the star here! Scallops-Three jumbo sea scallops arranged around thinly sliced fingerling potatoes and drenched in a warm bacon, almond sauce. Now, I'm not Gordon Ramsay or anything, but I could have sworn that it was a big no-no to get a beautiful crusty sear on a steak or seafood item and then drench it in sauce. Unfortunately, that is what happened here. I would've loved to try the scallops "naked" but there was so much bacon-almond sauce that this was impossible to do. Good thing the sauce was delicious and went very well with both the potatoes and the scallops. I was telling my wife that scallops are usually paired with carrots, apples, or squash. I really enjoyed the fact that these went more down the savory road. For dessert I had the key lime semifredo which was a highlight. Tons of texture and flavor here. My wife had the chocolate trifle and wouldn't even let me try it because she wanted it all for herself. Overall, it was a great dinner. We spent nearly 2 hours here and never felt rushed. Yes, it was loud in the restaurant, but it was also 7pm on Sweetest Day. No matter, we just talked a little louder. The flavors were all there and I would definitely go back. I've loved this restaurant since the day it opened. We went to the late night happy hour the first week and we haven't found better oysters since. We were just in Boston and went to several restaurants, and each time we both said, "Wow, Third Coast is so much better." Was in town in biz and found this place on Yelp. Was in the mood for fish so I decided to check it out based on the reviews. This place lived up to and exceeded my expectations. The space is tastefully done with a happening bar and very friendly and attentive staff. I started with the clam chowder which was delicious. The bacon and seasoned croutons were a great balance. I then had the walleye which is not an easy dish to get right. They nailed it. The skin was crisp and not oily. The whipped potatoes and onions were a perfect compliment. It just so happened that I started chatting with the couple next to me who were eager to give me suggestions. I happened to mention that I was I interested in the oysters Rockefeller but that I would t eat them all. The wife asked if I'd like a few to try. I said that it was ok and not to worry about it but her husband insisted. It turned out that her husband, dimitri, was the owner! so he gave me a sampling of the three styles they offer and didn't charge me. I ended up spending the evening chatting with them about various subjects. They were genuinely great people. Glad to see good people having success. This is a place that you can feel good about supporting. MKE has a gem in this place and an owner that truly cares about his patrons. I'll most definitely be a regular when in town. read more

Third Coast has a lot of potential, but definitely fell short of our expectations. Our party was a group of three on a Wednesday night. The dining crowd was small, but the bar was full. Our server and her assistants were 100% on top of everything. Everything came out hot and fresh, our wine glasses were refilled as needed, and she had a lot of great information about the food and establishment. If I were just rating the services, I would give the place 5 stars. The food is where things left something to be desired. We started with the tuna, steak tar tar, croquetts, lobster pot holes,and parker house rolls for appetizers. The Tuna and croquetts were absolutely delicious! However, the steak tar tar was far too salty for our taste. The flavors in the pot hole app were great, but the lobster was overcooked to the point that it was tough and rubbery.The bread was fresh and hot, but nothing special. The butter accompanying it was allegedly honey butter, but it tasted like plain, unsalted spread. We moved on to C3 salads. They were well-dressed and light, but again very heavy on the salt. One member of our party actually sent his salad back due to the saline taste. For entrees, we had the salmon, lobster pot pie, and the bronzino special. The salmon was on point. It had nice flavor and the couscous was great compliment. The fish special was also perfectly cooked, but had areas that were overly salted. The lobster pot pie was a huge disappointment. The sauce was flavorful and rich, but quite sweet. The lobster was again very tough and overcooked. While the puff pastry crust was a nice touch, it hardly made up for the rubbery meat. We tried two desserts, including the carrot cake and chocolate trifle. Both were perfectly sweet and beautifully plated. They were particularly good with the Anodyne coffee they served us freshly brewed. There were a lot of positives about our meal and experience, but when a restaurant specializes in seafood, they need to prepare it properly. The lobster is in so many of the dishes on the menu, so it is a shame that it was so ill prepared. The chef also needs to do more tasting to check his flavors. The quality of ingredients is high, but that quality was completely overshadowed by all of the salt. We will give this place another try in a few months to see if the bugs get worked out. read more

I was recently in town for business and sat at the bar for a quick meal and a drink. Quick was not what this place is nor was it belonging to the term friendly. My bartender was Kelly and after she took my drink order it was 20 min before I received my drink and even then it was the wrong one. When I told her, she became visibly and verbally upset. Ten minutes later I received a drink from her that was still incorrect, was never asked if I was ordering food and forced me to put cash on the bar and walk out. Thankfully there were plenty of friendly and much better places to spend my time at in Milwaukee. With my experience traveling for work in this city, it is in your best interest to avoid this place. Kelly not only represented herself as a cold and arrogant individual, but she also gave the impression that return business isn't important to her and the restaurant. Surly hostess seated us in worst possible table for our wedding anniversary dinner. Then the waitress delivered my wife's wine over 10 minutes before my House Specialty Cocktail, "Death by Coconut" [which was awful], so we had to wait for our anniversary toast. Dined here for dinner on Friday night with my girlfriend before the symphony. Made a reservation for 6 o'clock and when we walked in, we were greeted immediately by the host and a very bright, clean, modern dining room that still maintained a very cozy feel. This dining room would not have been out of place in Chicago or New York. There weren't many other tables save the bar but it filled up as the night progressed. We were seated near the back and Jake, our fantastic server greeted us promptly with a menu, explanations of the specials, answered any initial questions we had, and took our drink orders. Having dined out in many different cities at many different restaurants, our server Jake did an absolutely exceptional job. He was accommodating, knowledgeable, prompt, personable, and polite beyond measure. On to the food. We started out with the half dozen oysters on the half shell, and requested the west coast oysters exclusively which they happily obliged. They were creamy and fresh, delicate and expertly shucked. Not a speck of shell in any of them. We also ordered the beef tartare, which came on grilled house sour dough with bone marrow incorporated throughout. Rich, decadent, beefy and perfectly balanced. We then moved on to the hashbrowns royale, which was a masterpiece. Beef cheek, torchon, creme fraiche. Flavorful in it's simplicity, masterful in its execution. Crispy potato, succulent braised beef cheek, melting foie gras and pickled spring onion brought the whole dish together in a small pool of jus. We also ordered the blue crab croquettes. These were really good as well, combined with pimento and cream cheese, breaded and fried to golden perfection. Served with a dill yogurt that balanced out the mild heat from the croquettes perfectly. Any great meal wouldn't be complete without dessert, so we ordered two. We ordered the key lime tiramisu and and chocolate cherry deluxe. They were two contrasting desserts for sure but equally delicious. The tiramisu was light, bright, and refreshing, reminiscent of summer or spring. Lady fingers and feulletine crust, citrus and mascarpone. Lemon curd and toasted coconut rounded it out. The chocolate deluxe was a flourless chocolate cake paired with dark cherries and savory chocolate crisps. Heavy and slightly tart, a perfect dessert for the fall. This was the best meal I've had in a long time, and the service was amazing. The ambience was warm and welcoming and the decor was bright and modern. I'll be thinking about a return trip soon to explore more of the menu. Very well done all around. I'd recommend to anyone especially for a date spot. Very impressive. Keep it up folks! Now, considering I'm not from Milwaukee, and having had my fill of cheese curds and beer whilst making the trek here for the art museum on the lake, this is hands down a favorite in the entire city. First of all, if you can get reservations do it! If not, sit at the bar and enjoy the chatter between the bartenders and then engage them in all kinds of trivia -- food, politics, local music scene, but especially craft cocktails.... THOSE DRINKS PACK A PUNCH, ETHAN! Yeah, ask for Ethan... he will get you all the buttery lemony cheesy goodness from the kitchen and then bomb your ADH receptors à la Hiroshima... Really disappointing. Really liked the atmosphere and the menu was intriguing. Nothing really wowed though, the west coast oysters were not fresh, the ahi tuna crudo was good, but not great. For the price point I expected a lot more. Harbor house is head and shoulders ahead of this place for seafood. read more
