The whole process was very easy. So far we have completed our new gutters and patio door with them. We love products! The gutters are wide, no clog gutter systems with shields which is perfect because we have a lot of trees in our yard. They are perfect and do a great job keeping the rain off and away from the house. The price was really great too for a high quality gutter system. The steel patio door is beautiful and is very high quality. They added additional low maintenance weatherprood trim that makes is look awesome! The door is very well insulated and opens easily. We chose Thompson Creek to install new windows throughout our house in the fall of 2018. They did a very nice job and we are happy with our new windows. The team was always pleasant to work with, but there was some difficulty keeping up with the paperwork. The office did not always keep up with running changes that we made to our order, which resulted in a slight discrepancy in the amount due. This was resolved fairly easily with a couple of phone calls, but the company treated it as a collections matter rather than simply making sure we received updated paperwork. It's important to be vigilant about getting an updated estimate/work order if you make any changes up through the time of your installation. We plan on using Thompson Creek for additional work on our home in the future. read more

Classic bait and switch company. They came out to my neighborhood going door to door and I spoke with one of the kids, thinking that I could use a new storm door and have some repair work done on my front step. So I set up an appointment. They called me approx 3 times a day up to the day of the appointment. The sales guy comes and tries to sell me a front door for 30 minutes which I said to every person I talked to that I was not looking for a new front door and to stop asking me about it. (especially for $5,000!!!) He goes over his rehearsed pitch, which takes FOREVER, and we start looking at storm doors. So we decide on a door and price to fix the front step and I think everything is good to go. The job was way over priced but I figured if the quality is good and they warranty it then what the heck. I wrote him a check for 25% of the work. So the project guy comes out 2 weeks later to measure everything and he has the concerned look on his face. He talks to his supervisor for 30 minutes and then comes back to my door and says it's going to be an additional $1500 to do the work!!! That's over 100% more than what the entire job was supposed to cost. So I tell him I just want my money back and I don't want to deal with Thompson creek anymore. They call me 2 days later and tell me that they decided not to take the job and will be sending me my money back (which they already cashed) What a pathetic company...... This company should just turn into an advertising company because that's about all they are good for. I still can't believe the scam they were trying to pull. Thompson Creek has some of the nicest employees I've encountered as a homeowner. And that is the single good thing I can say about the company. For over a year now, we have been experiencing technical problems, delays, missed appointments, and sheer waste of time with getting a product that is simply okay. The initial contact with the company was an excruciating 4-hour meeting to discuss 2 doors; it's hard to remember now why we went with them at all. The installation crew didn't speak English, which is challenging for everyone involved, and they used my personal supplies to complete their job but didn't replace or even offer to replace them. The workmanship on the doors itself was shoddy; we had to have them come out to make repairs a number of times, and now just a year later, many parts are already rusting and looking bad despite the care we take. Each time we had to have someone come out, making an appointment or ordering a part took weeks at least. I had to call them back time and time again to even get someone who actually would help me with whichever problem it was we had at that time. Because my house is in the city, the problems that were created by these doors actually caused us a security risk, but knowing that didn't make them move any faster. Do not be fooled by their friendly appearance or alleged good reviews. They are completely unorganized and unable to handle the work that they have, and they sell a very over-priced product. Way too expensive, poor quality, high pressure/ pushy/condescending salesman. Not worth it. We paid twice as much money for a front door going with this company and have had them come out 6 times to fix things. But each time we have something fixed, they first have to send out their "quality control group" to assess what's wrong - they don't even come out with the intention of fixing anything. But you have to wait a 4 hour period just for that - which they can never schedule you sooner than 3 weeks away. Then once the problem is "assessed" you have to schedule another appointment that is 3 weeks away and sit around for another 4 hour period for them to show up. Wish I would have read these other reviews before we called TC. read more

I did not have them do any work because I felt more like a 'lead' being churned through their sales organization than a potential customer. I was asked to confirm the appointment multiple times; set aside 90 minutes to discuss replacing one window; have both my wife and I home at the same time; send pictures of the window and tell them whether or not the window was 'part of the foundation?' They are more interested in their time than yours, they only want your $$$, go with HD! read more

Thompson creek solicitors are annoying. Ok u got me: which solicitors aren't annoying? But these guys seem to be like that bad penny that just keeps turning up. Every month or two I feel like I'm chasing these guys off of my property, but it just so happens that this time I really do need help. I setup an appt for a Sat morning and leave it at that. The guy shows up and to his credit is on time, well groomed and carries himself professionally. As we sit down to chat it becomes obvious to me that I've somehow committed myself to a lengthy lecture that revolves around how fantastic TC is, how great their products are and how awful the competition is. Again, to the credit of the sales rep, he's friendly, knowledgeable and prepared for the task at hand: selling me a new door. By the end of our conversation, 2 hours have passed and my wife is giving me the evil eye to get rid of him. "Do you mind if I get a new door?" I ask. My wife responds: "I don't care as long as you get him out of our house!" OK, to be fair the sales rep had parked in my driveway and as my wife was leaving to go to an appointment she inadvertently backed into his car with her brand new CR-V. So yes, she was in a rather foul mood. In any case, I work out what I think to be a pretty good deal with the salesman (~40% off). Of course he had to contact his mgr to get approval for such an amazing discount. Then we sign the papers and afterwards I sit back and wait for my new door. Then the fun begins: A week or so later a TC gentleman visits my house to take exact measurements so that the door can be precisely fitted. The gentleman also takes a moment to review with me what I'm getting to make sure that it is in fact the right door. When my eyes glance over the copy of the contract that is presented to me I immediately notice that the "90" min fire rated steel door that I had agreed upon with the salesman has had the Nine-Zero scratched out and replaced with a "30". I stare at the contract in disbelief as I try to grasp how someone could do something so blatantly dishonest, after-all I too have a copy of the original, unaltered contract in my filing cabinet downstairs. I go get my copy and show it to the TC gentleman and tell him that it's supposed to be a "90" minute fire rated door. He phones back to his boss to clear it with his manager (after-all the price we had agreed upon was for a "30" minute fire rated door, not a "90" minute one.) I said "Are you kidding me? I have the original contract right here!" I should have cancelled the whole fiasco right then, but the gentleman that was sent to "measure" my existing door was more like a demo man. You see, as part of "taking measurements" he takes a crow bar and wrenches the trim off of the door frame and strips the caulk. So basically now instead of just having a glaring hole (long story) through my door, now the entire frame is horribly disfigured. So I grit my teeth and bear it as the TC guy tells me that they're going to work with me and go ahead and give me the "90" min door after-all. How nice! A turn for the worse: I get a phone call a few days later from a TC woman who quickly & unapologetically informs me that the door that I want, the "90" minute fire rated door, only comes in a stainless steel behemoth that looks like something from an industrial meat locker. I waste no time in explaining to her that the salesman explicitly told me that the residential door I wanted came in a "90" minute fire rated option. She tells me all that they can offer me in the "90" minute fire rated category is the steel behemoth. At the conclusion of this conversation I then inform the phone representative of the dis-trustful act committed by the sales representative in physically altering a signed contract without my knowledge or approval. The phone representative does apologize for this, but scoffs at me when I demand an apology from a TC executive. I tell her to send me a picture of the steel behemoth so that I can see just what it looks like. I wait a few more days. Then I receive a grainy, low-rez image of an awful looking door that no one in their right mind would ever want to buy. I call up the phone representative and tell her that at this point I want to cancel the whole process; that I want my down-payment refunded and that I want to speak to her manager. Then all of a sudden the clouds above me part and the representative is able to miraculously figure out a way to give me the door that I had picked out from the start (90 min). 6 weeks go by and it is finally the day to install my new door. The install goes well (surprise) and the door is well made and much nicer than my old door. Was my new door worth all of the hassle and headache of dealing with these TC idiots? The answer = a resounding No! I would never recommend this company to anyone, ever. TC may offer a quality product(s), but at what cost? Your sanity? Buy from someone else. Thompson creek has got to be kidding if they think the way to earn my business is to call me Every Single Day to try and schedule an estimate. I canceled my original estimate because I realized I didn't have the money right away to do the job, and told them I'd reschedule in a few months when I was ready. Since then I have received so many calls...they don't just leave a message for me to call back, they call the next day. I've told them over and over that I'm not ready and will call them in a few months but they don't seem to get it. Next phone call I get, sh*t will hit the fan. I also had American Siding and Window from Fairfax come out for a quote...much better and I plan to use them in a few months. read more

Had two new doors (storm and entry) installed by Thompson Creek on 6/19. Was told install crew would be here between 8 and 10 AM and we on-site around 8:20. Install went about as well as I could have expected. There was only one snafu which actually ended up being a good thing. We had ordered a combo peep hole/door knocker which, from what I was told, was supposed to be installed on the door prior to the install. Installers apologized and advised that a supervisor would there shortly to discuss with me. Supervisor arrived, apologized again and advised that they would have service tech out as soon as possible, after confirming that I had the time to wait that day, to complete the install rather than having someone come out again at a later date Tech arrived as promised and, since the peep hole/knocker was not installed yet, I was able to have it placed exactly where we needed as most standard height peep holes would be too high based on the drop of our step/porch and my wife's height. Tech confirmed with me the height and it was installed, cleaned up and done in less than a half hour. Would not hesitate to use Thompson Creek again. They might not be the cheapest choice but cheapest quote is not always the best quote. read more

I just wanted an estimate to replace a patio door. I called them, and they told me that there must be an owner present to sign the paperwork. Huh? Really? Since was an estimate something so binding that it required a signature? At any rate, acting on the owner's behalf, I knew what I was authorized to do, and that is to get a quote on a damn door. Anyway, after agreement that I would dedicate an hour of my time to the process, I was again directed to have an owner on hand to sign contracts. I told them that if the decision was made to award them the job, sure, the owner would be happy to sign the contract. This was not enough. They wanted the owner there. During the whole thing. Honestly, it was like getting roped into a timeshare or something. All I wanted is a price for a door. Holy Cow! To end the story, because I would not commit an hour of the owner's time, Thompson Creek could not move on with providing me an estimate. Just too much trouble. read more

I wanted to make changes to the window size and get a different price quote thats where the problem begins. Talked to an inside Sale guy who said he would get my paperwork and call me back in 5 mins. Of course he did not left a message after an hour later.Called back again they said that both Inside Sales people were at lunch and I should leave a message. I have spent the last 25 plus years in the home improvement industry so when it came time to replace all the windows in my home I knew what I was looking for in a company. I did my due diligence and had my wife set up 3 different companies. I should not have wasted our time. I knew Thompson Creek by reputation. They did a friends house and I had meet the owners at either a BBB awards function or Remodeler function. Their reputation was far and away the best. They were also the only company that didn't talk down to my wife in the proccess. Two of the most important things I look for in a company. The work was set the day before were were scheduled to have 8" of snow and an artic blast to come through the area. They worked like a well oiled machine. As a window came out the replacement went in. It seemd like they had a double crew just to ensure it was done in time. Good thing too as the temps dipped into the single numbers the next week. Funny thing is that the heater didn't seem to turn on as much once they were done compared to the past. I already see saving there. Yes the cost may hae been a little higher than the others but you get what you pay for. I paid for a top company and so far have gotten top results. Do yourself a favor, deal only with a pro like Thompson Creek. read more

Unprofessional and relentless. My parents used the company years ago and have always talked about the wonderful service provided by this local, family-owned company. I do what I can to support local business but THIS IS NOT THAT COMPANY ANYMORE. I contacted them for a quote and scheduled an appointment. Since then, I have been hounded 5+ times a day, pitching deal after deal, pressuring me to make a purchase. Sounds like they really wanted to hit some sort of month end quota (how transparent!). This completely turned me off and I opted to go elsewhere. You're better off going with Pella. If that is what family gets you, I want no part of that family. read more

When a company has to resort to the heavy selling tactics that Thompson Creek uses, it's usually a strong indication that they are trying to peddle an inferior product. I've been in sales for 30 years and quite successful at it. Based on the Thompson Creek guys that have shown up at my front door and their inability to accept no for an answer, Thompson Creek is the absolute LAST resource I'll use when I need new windows. This market approach is pathetic in this day and age. Must have learned it from the few aluminum siding peddlers leftover from the '50's in Baltimore. Their game doesn't play anymore. We've used Thompson Creek to replace our windows, gutters, and a basement door that was letting in water. Each time, we had a sales rep come to our home and while it is clear that they have the typical "sales" training behavior that you tend to get from people working off commission, they were also courteous and friendly and conscious that we did not always have a lot of time available to go over everything. More than anything, Thompson Creek earns its 5 star review from the quality of the products they offer and the professionalism of the people they have do the installations. Installers are always on time (if not a bit early), they review with you what they are going to take care of in case there are last minute changes, and they are done quickly, leaving the area where they were working clean. A manager then comes by to inspect the work and make sure that everything is done to your satisfaction and to answer any questions. In general, I would say that Thompson Creek is a "get what you pay for" company. Working with other contractors on my house, I have run into issues with them showing up, getting the work done on time and not being able to do things exactly as we had discussed. By paying more and going with Thompson Creek, my wife and I do not have to worry about issues of professionalism. read more

Thompson Creek installed gutters on a rental property which I own. I was previously familiar with the three gutter systems currently being marketed and I knew that TC probably had the best product. The sales part went fairly well and they gaveme the usual "discounts". The installation seemed to go fairly well. I did not receive any feedback from the tenants living in the property. Several years later, I moved into the property and noticed the gutters on the back were not working. The gutters in the front had a very bad "leak". A strong selling point was there lifetime guarantee. I called Thomson Creek to schedule an appt. The soonest they could get a person to see the problem would be in three weeks. The problem with the front gutter was it needed a "diverter" and they could return in another three weeks to fix it. The problem with the rear gutters was the system was not compatible with my shingles. My big issue here is the salesperson should have noticed this. If he didn't the installers could have done one of three things which would be expected from a responsible vendor: 1. Do not do the work and only do the front gutters 2. Explain the problem and state they could not guarantee the the rear gutters 3. Identify the problem, explain the solution, and the additional costs The tech said they had a different product which would work in the back. The price quoted was more than the initial cost. He said they had to do the front also so they would match. This is a townhouse and the difference could only be noticed by an aerial view. After many phone calls, e-mails, etc. they replaced the rear gutters with a product that would work, at a supposedly discounted rate. I still feel as though I paid for one and a half gutter systems. These gutters do get plugged. Birds have built nests in them several times. TC will clean them out, but every time it has been about a 3-week wait time to get a service person to the house. Their products are good, but the way they dealt with me could have been handled much better. I am still very bitter about this. Considering they made mistakes on both the front and back gutter, does not speak well for them. If they followed any of the above three suggestions, I would have much more respect for them. If they fixed my gutters for no charge, I would probably be a strong advocate for Thompson Creek. read more

Our experience over the years with Thompson Creek has been very positive. Several years ago we had a large bay window installed. After it was installed, it was apparent that it did not match exactly with the "skirt" under the window or the copper roof above it. (we had decided to not replace those two items due to cost) but the window was to fit our current ones. The window fit the opening exactly and was sealed tightly. However, because the window was such an excellent fit, Thompson Creek decided to install a new "skirt" and copper roof to fit the window, at no cost to us. We were very pleased with their quick response and no hesitation to make it "right". Because of that experience, we replaced all of our other windows last year. Again, the service and any concerns or questions were handled immediately. We are very pleased with the windows. They were custom made to fit the present openings so no cutting of window openings or painting needed in the house. And we have received another quote to replace some doors. Thompson Creek is not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. The Thompson Creek salesman, Steve Gilson, has always been informative and helpful. Not pushy but complete. He is our "own personal" salesman and if and when we have a need or question, it just takes a phone call to get service. I will recommend Thompson Creek for excellent service and product.. read more

I recently got a outside patio door from Thompson creek. (very expensive ) I was put off twice for installation and I waited over two months to have it installed. After a short time ( about two months ) I noticed dry rot on one of the seals, and the screen door was pulling away from the frame. The next crew that came to repair my issues, informed me that the door was installed wrong and the installers purposely bent the hinges to have the door close correctly. What a joke. So much money and so much time for so little service and product. If you need a patio door, shop carefully. read more

The salesman that visited us was knowledgeable and took time to answer all our questions. They followed up by phone and sent out someone to verify the window sizes. The installation crew that came out were professional and cleaned up inside and out when they were done. They have followed up to make certain we were satisfied. Sounds like many of you have had trouble with the sales person. Mine was awesome. He arrived on time and came back a second time to answer a couple other questions. Took the time to make sure I was comfortable...not pushy at all. The person who measured the windows was on time, respectful of the house/belongings, and (judging by the finished product) did an excellent job. The customer service staff did an excellent job helping me change one detail early in the process and keeping me informed along the way. The installation crew arrived early in the appointed time frame. Worked cleanly, efficiently, and with precision. They cleaned up after themselves and left the house/property the same shape they found it in...except for the new windows, of course. The finished product is excellent. I am very happy with the service and product I received from Thompson Creek. And you get all of this from a family owned, local company with the best warranty in the industry. I have had nothing but excellent customer service from Thompson Creek. We had 10 windows, the front door with screen door, and shutters replaced all in one day. I have had not one problem with installation. My energy bill has gone down every month and the house looks fantastic. I would recommend them to anybody. Thompson Creek Window could not even follow up on an estimate. The rep visited the house (in Greenbelt, MD); gave me two numbers 19K and 14K - for 9 windows and 1 patio door; told me they were having a winter discount special so the prices would "nicely" go down to 14K and 11K, respectively -- the difference being the type of windows (either both sleeves opening or only the lower one). All he gave me were these numbers - never anything on paper or email. He told me another rep would call be a day later to over the estimate and provide details and an email. I never received a call or email; I called the company to follow up, and got placed on a eternal hold. I called again, the same happened; I got cold-feet and ran away - you can try your lack, but a company that cannot even provide you w/ a decent, comprehensive, estimate is in my opinion not reliable. read more

Met with the salesman on 12/23/16. sat through the whole process for roof, siding, gutters and windows. Never got to see the windows! decided that we would go with the windows only at this time. Everything was done on a computer so I never even got to see what I was signing and never got paperwork to show what I signed for. I emailed asking for a copy of what I signed. The salesman took my email so when he got back to the office he should have emailed me my copy. If I don't receive a copy by 1 pm today 12/27/16. I am cancelling this order. Word of advise, if you want to shop around, make them your last request for estimates because if you don't you may feel the pressure. Additional information: Field manager reached out to me after being notified about my review, which again really isn't bad! But he got me copies of my contract and I am happy. I like the reviews I have read concerning their windows so I will still be going with their windows as soon as my refi is complete. As for not seeing the window sample, I do believe that once my husband got home and football and other "Boy" talk began all that just got lost because I couldn't get a word in. But while it was just me for like an hour the salesman did work hard to go over the gutter system, roof and siding systems! I just wanted to mention that because I have read that they wanted both parties their to discuss, but he had no problem what so ever working with me without my husband. Since my original review has somehow, mysteriously been removed, I'll keep this one short. New windows and new siding and now my basement has a leak. Called an independant lead detection specialist (American Leak Detection) and THEY determined the leak was around the siding by the front door. Thompson Creek sent out their Project Manager (promoted from installer) and HE determined it was not the siding BUT felt it necessary to install a flashing tape under the siding in the area of the front door. That did not resolve anything. Simply stated - no leak prior to the Thompson Creek siding installation and after the installation, I have a leak!! Thompson Creek was supposed to schedule their Director if Installation to visit my property, but haas now decided NOT TO VISIT once they were told they would bear the financial responsibilty for American Leak Detetion to return at their request. SO far, this experienice has been a waste of money and in my opinion, Thompson Creek is a very UNETHICAL company. read more

Thompson Creek is new to the Richmond area. This spring, they replaced 15 double hung windows in my 1939 home. I could not be more pleased. From the initial sales meeting throughout the entire process, everyone was polite, professional, available to answer questions. The crew was timely, worked hard and finished the job in one (long) day. While not inexpensive, the pricing was fair. And most important, the windows are high quality. I'm already setting the air conditioner thermostat higher with no decrease in comfort. I highly recommend Thompson Creek windows. read more

Off to a bad start so far. They were quick to set up the appointment to provide quote for window replacements for our entire house (not inexpensive job). Then the rep showed up 3 hours early. We were about to go out, but changed our plans in order to meet with him. Nice enough guy, no issues with that, but at the end he provided a verbal quote and said we would receive it by email and also have a follow up call with his inside sales rep. Really no stars are deserved!! I have never experienced such awful customer service in all my life. 5 years ago I purchased a very expensive front door from Thompson Creek. I did not get the peephole that I paid for in the door. Nothing was resolved as I complained and said that we didn't get what we paid for. I literally gave up on trying. However, this last spring I contacted Thompson Creek again in hope of getting service done on our front door and storm door sweep. A serviceman came out and looked at the problem. I asked him if he had a minute to look at an issue that we had on our back french doors and thought about getting an estimate. He said that he did not have time to look at the doors. Next, an appointment date was given to me over a month later in September (they claimed they were very behind with servicing). Appointment day came, no reminders of the appointment, so I called and waited on hold for a long time and confirmed the time frame. The serviceman came out and looked at the job to be completed and took some notes and said that I would have to schedule another appointment for repair!!! What? I still can't believe that I heard these words? They provided a date of October 10th, a month away. I was furious and tried to call a manager and left over 3 messages for a return phone call. No call back came...ever. At appointment time on October 10th, I couldn't take off work but had arranged another family member to be there for service repair. As I returned home from work in the early afternoon, I couldn't believe my eyes. The servicemen had taken out the entire storm door frame and never fixed the actual problem of the metal door sweep that is bent. They also broke my doorbell off. I seriously could not believe how incompetent a company could be. I was told that the service truck wasn't stocked properly and that the part wasn't on the truck that day. I had the serviceman give me the number to speak with the project manager. This manager promised that I would have the repair completed by the end of the day. Well, not only do I still not have my door fixed, but I also haven't heard back from the scheduler and have left messages and waited on hold for more than 20 minutes each time I have tried to call. This company claims family owned with great customer service!! Seriously, I do not ever recommend Thompson Creek for any work. Back in July I had two sliders replaced with Thompson Creek Doors. The doors are heavy and appear well made and as a local firm, I thought they had a good reputation. One door is leaking and has ruined my wood floors. I have called them repeatedly in the last 3 months, always being assured that they will be out as soon as they can (but that with the weather, they are really busy - I get that) However...I have never received a call back or a visit.....and can only get the "customer service" people on the line...managers are always unavailable - although I have been assured repeatedly that the customer service folks are emailing "my" manager, directly with my concerns and phone number and that I will receive a call back. Tomorrow I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and calling a handy man to see if he can make the water quit seeping into my living room. Just posting in case you are considering using this company. My advice would be to save a headache and call Anderson Windows and Doors. I wish I had. read more

The rating I would give, if I could, would be a cold hearted minus 100. I had set up appointment for window replacement estimate. The day before the appointment, my husband had an emergency visit to the hospital. He has final stage cancer and later went from hospital to hospice. I called to cancel the appointment and explained that he was in hospital. Ever since that day, I have received at least 2 calls per day to reschedule the visit. I tell the salespeople that I will call at a better time and they keep calling. So today while sitting in the hospice, I called the company and spoke to someone named Mark. He said he was the call center manager in the marketing division. He gave me the routine, "Oh we are sorry". Hell no they are not sorry or they would have taken my number off the list every time I told someone who called. As I told Mark, I hope this never happens to his family, This is horrible treatment to receive from a family owned business. Eventually I will need windows. But I WILL NEVER CONSIDER getting a price from Thompson Creek. read more

Flat out terrible! Don't fall for their financing ploy, that company is just as bad. I'm very disappointed with my windows and install, it took 14 hours, now 2 trips to come back and do what was supposed to be done the 1st time. 6 windows and a sliding door shouldn't have taken that long. I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Recently had rain gutters (with gutter guard system for leaves/debris) and downspouts installed. Quality product that works as advertised. Installer crews professional, courteous and knowledgeable. Readily explained what they were doing, and why, throughout the process. Over the last 12 years or so, we have had Thompson Creek install our siding, windows, and exterior doors, and perform some wood trim wrapping; now the gutters. Have had only one or two issues in that time (e.g., high winds blowing siding loose, broken screen, etc.), but when one does arise, Thompson Creek responds quickly and they make good on their guarantee. Thompson Creek customer service is superb. Quality products, quality workmanship, quality customer service. Glad we went with them for all our outside work on our home. Will most definitely call them again when we need additional wood trim wrapping and one more exterior door. read more

Complete waste of time if you are female! Extremely condescending to female "potential" customers. I called for an estimate to replace all the windows in my home and was told my husband would have to be there. I told them I was the owner of the home and made all of the decisions including financial & maintenance decisions and more importantly, its none of their business as to my marital status. I was again told that my husband would have to be there. I told them not to come that I would definitely be going with a company that doesn't openly & proudly discriminate against women! read more

This was my third time using Thompson Creek. It will be MY LAST TIME, I assure you. The problem with this install began when the measurer guy came out and said we had some rotting at the sill plate. Nevermind that the salesman said they replace any rotted sill plate and framing as part of the work. The measurer said there appeared to be water damage to the subfloor adjacent and that they don't do that work. They recommended their subcontractor come out to provide an estimate. When he came out, he said there was not only rotting of the subfloor, but also the rim and floor joists (even though he could not see the actual damage without removing the doors and cutting the subfloor). Seemed quite unlikely to me, nonetheless Thompson Creek comes back to me with an addendum for over $2,000. I stated to them very clearly that I believed their subcontractor overstated the extent of the damage, which again he could not adequately assess without removing the doors. After a few back and forth emails and phone calls, the issue was escalated to management. Their response?? The price is the price. They offered no contingency depending on actual damage or any price differential. I sat on the issue for a couple weeks and they kept pressuring me to commit to the addendum. While I could have brought in another contractor, the timing of the removal and replacement was critical given it was February, the dead of winter, and I couldn't have two patio doors out of commission. The addendum specified removal/replacement of the floor and rim joists. I told them very clearly that I wasn't happy with their obstinance and that, if indeed when the doors were removed and it became clear that their contractor overstated the extent of the damage, I would be PISSED. I might add that while removal and disposal of the old doors was supposed to be part of Thompson Creek's original contract, they did not offer me any credit for that. Just as I expected, the contractor removed the patio doors and only had to lift 3 small pieces of hardwood floor, replace 8" of subfloor. That work only took 2.5 hours. The rest of the work was in building blocking for the doors. Clearly, the removal, repair and replacement could have all been accomplished in the same day. Altogether, the 2 men were there for 5 hours (=$200/hr per man). My wife was at home to take pictures of the actual water damage, which was minimal. I brought the issue back to Thompson Creek for resolution, given the fact that the damage was intentionally overstated. Their response?? The price is the price. I asked them to provide photos of the replacement of the floor and rim joists. They said they couldn't do that because the doors were in place. No kidding. I said I had photos that confirm that the repairs were overstated. Once again, they were defiant. My response... I withheld $500 on the $17k project (paid in cash). When they got the check they pressed me again for the remainder. Then a manager called. He said the work was performed as per the contract and they expected me to pay the remainder. At this point, my patience had run out on being nice and I restated the issues and my anger over their continued obstinance. Now, I've spent nearly $50k with Thompson Creek over the years and this is the way they treat me? The manager says he'll get back to me. I anticipated their response... 'Let's split the difference...' Really? That's your play? Are you a rug merchant in Morocco? That $250 would have been adequate if you'd recognized the issue previously, but now you've made it a matter of principle. You think $500 means much one way or another someone who lives in a $1.5mil house? Principle. What will it cost them? This review will be the first of many. If I knew the Thompson Creek buying experience was like purchasing a car, I probably would not have had them into my house. Wow. They were having a 50% off installation sale. However, I could not get the sales person to tell me what the price of the window was vs. what the price of the installation was. I would like to have known how much I was saving. Impossible to find out. They write down a few prices on a piece of paper and then write down their lower price. Don't understand where the 1st 2 prices came from. Something aboout consumer reports. I mentioned that the price was higher than I expected. So the price comes down. In the end, the guy tells me that he gave me such a good deal that I actually wasn't paying for installation. Imagine that. He gave me a better deal than the 50% off. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to tell. I do believe in the quality of their product and they back it with a great warranty. Hopefully, in the end I'll be happy with product. Time will tell. In the meantime, I feel like I may have paid more than I should have just like I do every time I buy a car. If you are a good hardnosed negotiator, this may be the company to do business with. If you are not, I wouldn't do business with them because they will probably take advantage of you like the auto dealrships do. read more
