Purchased a new GMC Sierra from Thompson's GMC. I have to say it was the most pleasurable vehicle purchase experience I've had. Dustin was the salesman with Alex - Sales Manager and Tyler was the finance manager. These guys are totally awesome.... Every person that I dealt with within their organization were very professional, friendly and accommodating. There were a number of hang ups along the way, but they handled each issue without complaint and in a very professional manner and wanted to make sure that I/the customer was comfortable with every decision and went out of their way to make the deal RIGHT. There was no pressure of any kind, they just put forward the best deal possible. Not only were they professional, they are just good people, that care about people. I wouldn't hesitate, in fact I would go out of my way to purchase another vehicle from them. When we arrived home there was steam coming out from underneath the hood and also dripping on the ground; that issue was not prevalent when we brought the car in for service. As part of the 50,000 mile service ($400+), the work order noted that all the hoses and connections relating to the cooling system had been checked! However, had the technician actually checked the over-flow hose connected to the coolant recovery tank it would have been discovered, as I did when I touched it, that the spring was no longer holding the tension necessary to prevent it from leaking!. I have since put another hose clamp on and have corrected the issue; something I paid for and didn't receive. I called the service writer when we returned home; she said to bring it back so they could check it, but it's a 45 minute drive and why would we? She said she didn't think that they caused the problem - I said I thought the problem was there and your tech didn't catch it. The overflow hose was so loose that it flopped and rotated around and almost came off in my hand - obviously creating the leak that I found. There was an indication that it had been leaking by the coolant residue on engine. read more

We moved here from the L.A. area and unlike the businesses in that area, we have found all of the businesses in Placerville to be extremely helpful and genuinely friendly...EXCEPT Thompson's customer service!! I swear they must send their people down to L.A. to learn to lie and ignore your concerns with a smile on their lips. Yes they do find ways to spend your money, with no regard for quality of workmanship. I keep going because my car is still under warranty (my favorite shop does not do warranty work) but you can be sure I'll never return once the warranty runs out. read more

I have to update this for you all--. Soon after, I took my vehicle to a different station -- a Star certified station - for the smog test (which is passed of course), and after getting a bit of education from the Star shop, I contacted them back and told them about the special tests some cars need and to contact the California Bureau of Automotive Repair for the particulars. The manager was very apologetic, promised to look into it, and mailed me some gift cards towards future services there. Now that is good customer service and I hope he can get that to trickle down to the rest of the crew. Hopefully now the techs (and the people in service who want to sell service to people who don't really need it) understand all about the different tests and different vehicles in this smogging debacle. The most insulting aspect of the ordeal to me was being treated as a moron. The manager deserves a good pat on the back though for being man enough to apologize for the others, promising to educate them, and in making up with the gift cards. read more

Bought a used truck. Sales process was good. Simple problem with the bed light not working Went back, they took the truck in and decided after about 60 mins they needed to have their electrical specialist look at it. I called back to make an appt and was told they needed I check with management. Several calls to Dave the sales guy went in returned. Dropped in to talk to the sales manager (Jimmy) and was told they will not fix the problem. So, the moral of the story is I should have gone over the truck much more thoroughly. We have been car shopping for about a good year and each sales men we are approached by wanted to know immediately what our credit score was, cash down, etc. They didn't really care or even bothered to remember what we were looking for. Luckily we didn't give up just yet, we checked out Thompsons Buck GMC and they were so friendly and the process, honestly, didn't feel frustrating or over whelming. Their goal was to get us to walk out with the vehicle we needed. Their also a pet friendly dealership, they were so generous they allowed us to bring our dog on the test drive and have her hangout with us throughout the process. They are willing to meet half way. It's not like your other dealerships where its a "deal or no deal". Not once did we feel discouraged. The customer service was beyone what we expected. My husband and I drove over 2 hours to Thompsons to purchase a GMC 2500 Denali for my husband. We had the deal worked out via phone/email before we arrived and were very impressed with the whole process. We worked with Jesse and he gave us a great deal and made sure everything was ready to go when we arrived. Ed and Alex were very helpful in getting the paperwork completed and making sure the truck was detailed and up to the standards of my husband (which isn't always easy!). Tyler went over the financial aspect of the deal and we were impressed that there were no mistakes and everything was exactly as we had agreed upon over the phone/email. The extra special touch was the customer service they all provided. We had our 4 year old son with us and Tyler gave us a balloon for him to play with and showed us to their very nice lobby with a TV and toys to play with. The whole facility was clean, spacious, and they even had fresh popcorn and drinks for us while we waited. Overall it was the best experience we've ever had purchasing a car. First of all, in reading the other reviews, it says something about this dealership when the majority all traveled quite a distance to come to this dealership! We have been shopping around for the perfect 2015 Yukon, for our family, for the last year. Several months back, Thompson's had the exact one we wanted, however "life" made us wait a bit. Once back on the search, we found the exact one we wanted once again at Thompson's. We found one closer to home, with a few minor options missing, however when we called we got the aggressive "shark" on the line who didn't want to spend time on the phone with us and just wanted us in the door. We then called Thompson's where we had the pleasure of speaking with Kris Hulsing. He was very patient with all of our questions, didn't hesitate to run out to Service to check on options for us, and then run through numbers. All of this on a Saturday night at 6PM, where most would have rushed to get you off the phone to close down shop, not Kris!! We then drove 2 hours the next morning to be there right when they opened. We were out of there in 2 hours, from test drive, to chit chat, to running numbers, learning our new car to signing docs. Worst Car buying experience I have ever had. Purchased the vehicle 6/9/2015..Drove it less than a week and the front brake caliper began to fall off. I had my three young boys with me in the car. No care what so ever from the dealership... I had to pay to get the car towed back to the dealership. This was a certified pre owned 2013 Chevy Tahoe. I am a business owner myself...If I would have put a family in this type of danger I would gone above an beyond to insure the family was happy. I was made to feel like they did me a favor. I've been considering a purchasing a new car for the past few months since my daughter is 16 now and would love to give her my car and upgrade mine. We bought a Suburban from Thompson's about 15 years ago, but since we moved to Granite Bay, we have purchased from both Roseville and Folsom dealerships. I was interested in a new Yukon XL, but the prices of these vehicles have gone up dramatically since we bought our 2007. We looked at the Folsom dealership, but they only had the ultra expensive Denali's in stock. So I went up the hill to Placerville, and Lance showed me an awesome SLE that we could add leather to, and still be within our budget. I was VERY happy to get my 2015 Yukon XL, and at such good price. Lance made the process very quick and easy. Sometimes a bit on the pricey side, but when they can they offer up a coupon...also they try and match coupons from other establishments. The shop is honest. I purchased a Beautiful Buick Verano. I am not sure where to even start at telling the most story of the most wonderful shopping experience that I have ever had. I stopped in to just see what kind of cars they had that would give good gas mileage and meet my needs. I was just looking as I did not think I would be able to get into a new car now. I was educating myself for the future. I was greeted by Charlie. He is this calm confident caring person. We just clicked. Charlie is amazing and on top of that he was one of our brave veteran hero's that represented our country proudly and fought for our freedom. Charlie showed me a car that seemed perfect for me. Although my purchase experience last year was good, I have been soured by the incompetence of the service department. I drove an hour from my house to have my truck's first oil change at Thompson's GMC which is where I bought it. After waiting nearly 3 hours, I was finally told that my truck was done. I went to the cashier window and she called for the truck to be brought up. After waiting 30 more minutes, I went back to ask where the truck was and I could tell something was wrong. They couldn't find my keys and nobody came out to tell me while I was waiting. She asked me what color my truck was and said that they had 3 guys looking for it. After about 30 more minutes, one of the guys that moves the vehicles around asked what color my truck was (again), and then tried to make small talk. When I flat out asked where my truck was, he said they couldn't find it but they had 3 people looking for it. The lot isn't that damn big. I kept picturing the old commercial when the mechanic tells the customer on the phone "I have 3 of my best guys on it" and the 3 guys are literally on top of the car eating lunch. Extremely incompetent and unprofessional. I walked the lot myself and it was nowhere to be found. I saw the other 3 wandering aimlessly around the lot and shrugging their shoulders at each other as if to say, "I don't know where the truck is". I went back inside and asked if they lost my truck and they said "no", so I said "then where is it?", and I got blank stares from everyone until someone said, we're still looking for it but we think we know where it is. So what's the big secret, do I get three guesses or are you going to just tell me where you think it is? I had to actually ask them, where they thought it was. It was obvious that they were just guessing (and hoping) that they were right. Remind you, I came in for and OIL CHANGE. At this point, nearly another hour has passed and they think that maybe it was sent to the detail shop down the road by accident but they can't verify because nobody is answering their phone. Once again, I am asked what color my truck is. I heard one employee whisper to the other, "I'd be really pissed too". I guess she saw the look on my face. I kept my cool for the most part, because mistakes happen, but how do you lose a truck? A 4+ hour (so far) waste of my time for an oil change? They finally got a call back from the detail shop and I was asked again what color my truck was and they said it wasn't there. Earlier, the cashier had asked the driver "what color truck did you take over there?" and he said white (my truck is white). The detail shop said they didn't have a white one there. The cashier told the driver it must have been the black one that he took, and he said "no, it was white". They argued for a bit in front of me. I could see in the cashier's face that she might have screwed something up but she kept trying to lay the blame on the driver. How about some professionalism in front of the customer. They then sent the driver and another guy to the detail shop to look for it. Low and behold, it was sitting right there where the kid said he parked it. Did the detail shop even look, or did they just look at their paperwork and not see a white truck on the list? Complete and utter incompetence. In the end, It turns out the cashier gave the driver the wrong keys, the driver didn't verify that the vehicle he had the keys for, and the paperwork for the detail, didn't match (neither did the cashier). They told me, at least you'll get a free detail out of it. At this point I said it's the least you can do for losing my truck and wasting my time, and also I told them they needed to fill my tank with gas for putting unnecessary miles on it (I had just filled it up that morning, so It was almost full already). They agreed. The truck came back dirty, and no fuel added to the tank, only fuel used on their joyride. I had to ask again for them to put fuel in the tank and they took it down the road again to top it off which took another 20 min. It was pushing 5 hours at the dealership now for a simple oil change and I had an appointment to get to. Before I left, only one guy came out to speak to me and apologize. He stated he was at lunch when all of this happened (of course). Nobody that was actually involved came out when my truck finally showed up to say anything. I think they were just hoping that I would go away and not get them in trouble. I might have driven off, but I will not forget. There was never any offer to make things right, or offer a free oil change, or any kind of compensation for my wasted time and worrying about what happened to my truck. In the future, I would strongly suggest that in a case such as this, be upfront with the customer immediately when you know something is wrong and keep them up to date. With me honesty goes a LONG way! If you screw up, be upfront about it and let the customer know. Also, you should always verify which vehicles leave your lot. read more

First off, I'm not much of a "leave a review" type of guy but I'm compelled to share my experience with Thompson's in Placerville. As a previous GMC owner, I am aware of the high quality in the products and service. With those standards in mind, we have been interested in the GMC Yukon Denali for the past few years. Until recently, we have not been too committed in the search for an upgraded vehicle. After doing some online research and looking at inventory in the area, I found an ad for a 2012 Denali with all the features we wanted at the right price at Thompson's. They even had the Carfax available for all to see. Being an apprehensive shopper, I had a laundry list of questions. I called Thompson's and Cheryl Kerrigan was quick to answer them. A few hours later, we were talking to Kris Hulsing and test driving the vehicle. He was very personable, honest, & informative. He really took his time to ensure this was the vehicle for us and did not attempt to pressure a quick sale. Kris and Chuck Swift worked late hours that night attempting to package an acceptable deal. Since it was late, banks were not open and we had an opportunity to think more about the purchase and come back while they prepared the deal. Well... WE DID!! We came back and Kris, Cheryl, Chuck, & Irving welcomed us while we decided to pursue the vehicle. I got a great deal on my trade and a great price for the Denali. We came for the vehicle but stayed (and purchased) due to the stellar customer service, honesty, & willingness to work with us. I had a wonderful experience at Thompson's Buick GMC. I found a very good-looking well-equipped 2013 Dodge Durango on cars.com that Thompson's had for sale. I filled out the online contact request and was quickly contacted by Lance. Lance was very cordial and helpful. I explained that I was in Fresno and that I was very interested in the Durango. Lance informed me that he had done a thorough inspection of the car to see if there was anything even small to report and he said the car was beautiful, and he could have it delivered to me all the way to Fresno if I wished. I told Lance I very much appreciated the offer but I needed to come see it and test drive it to be sure it's what my wife and I wanted. I drove up on a Saturday and the Durango was waiting, and indeed, it was beautiful. Lance and I took it for a test drive, and he thoroughly explained the entire car. After some initial paperwork, I met with Jesse who finished the loan paperwork. Jesse was also straightforward and no pressure. Overall, this was the best car buying experience I've had. after becoming permanetely disabled after a catastrophic, traumatic life altering car accident I bought my first new car here needing a very reliable mode of transportation for myself and my caregiver I experienced the worst experience of any purchase of any kind. Fact being after owning the vehicle for only 3 days I guess one might say I had buyers remorse and figured I need a four wheel or all wheel drive vehicle to broaden my search of somewhere to live being more chances of finding somewhere where it snows as well. The vehicle had less than 50 miles on it, 26 of them was put on the vehicle by the salesman Brian Wood who delivered it to my friends apartment wherein he told me he had to stop at his friends house to drive him back to the dealership Brian told me when I asked why there was more miles on the vehicle than from point A to point B, I live 15-18 miles from the dealer the most. I called Jessie Layton -sales manager and told him I need to change to a different vehicle and he bluntly repied quote "I don't know what to tell you" I did then find out the GM corporation had or still has a 24 hour sign and drive option before buying a Buick or any GM vehicle and Thompson's has a 3 day satisfaction gaurantee on vehicles which is on their TV commercial accompanied by a banner across the screen " Thompson's Keeps Their Promise" both of which I was never told of . I will add to this review very soon though in closing today I want to write that I traded the vehicle in with about 100 miles on it at a different dealership which actually offered me more than Thompson's being Thompson's agreed to take the Buick back giving me $9,000-yes nine thousand dollars less than I paid. Note: the second day I owned the car I had Thompsons send out the car to have the sun-moon roof installed I paid for in the initial purchase for an extra option $1,250 dollars, also the third day I had the vehicle I paid $850 dollars for a 3M plastic protection film installed at the shop I chose to send the car out to -both extras were before the third or fourth day before I attempted to return the vehicle spotless and better than new. I do have all receipts having recorded timelines. All their promotional commercials don't mean anything when anyone I talk to said they have had nothing but problems over and over again and did not have a good buying experience there and other's never even thought of going there. read more

one lie after another! bought extended warranty they said on vin # did not need paper work wrong brought in for trans problem mechanic said a problem after a while he returned with manager and said no problem and we need front brake pads I had checked elsewhere pads in new shape! sold car 1 year later went in filled out paperwork to cancel warranty. checked with them 2 weeks later they said they only send papers in once a month and they needed proof of sale papers wrong again I have papers signed by manager and dealing directly with warranty co. can not waste any more time dealing with such a dishonest co. full of liars any more. read more
