I've been eyeing this place for awhile and never got a chance to try some for myself until today...Someone actually brought in a box of danishes or i don't even know what they were. It was unedible. Dryest piece of pastry I've ever had.. and i've had 2 day old pastries or grocery story pastries that tastes a lot better. I tried one with raisins and another had pecans. i would steer clear of those two. they fruit ones were only better because of the filling. the pastry itself was the same throughout all the flavors: DRY. I generally go the Three Brothers for Cinnamon Rolls. They make a decent roll. Nothing special but decent and reliable. And generally the staff is very nice, attentive and helpful. Though on my last visit they gave me a CR with raisins, even though I asked twice: Are you sure this has no raisins? It wasn't busy, so I'm not sure how the mix-up occurred. read more

Presentation wise, Three Brothers Bakery takes the cake--no pun intended. However, taste wise? The cake leaves much to be desired. I have not tried any of the other pastries at this Bakery, only the red velvet cake. While it smelled delicious, looked delicious and was recommended as delicious, the cake itself was dry and had little flavor. For a red velvet cake, which is supposed to be moist and have that perfect chocolatey taste, it fell really short of all expectations. The price was also near $50, which was not justified in any way by the quality of the cake. I may be willing to try this bakery again for one of their single-serve items, but until then, I just don't see the point in coming back for another cake. read more

We've grown up going to Three Brothers. I bought my wedding cake from them and people raved about how moist and unique the flavors were. We buy a selection of cookies from them for most special occasions at our house. The gingerbread men and the tri-color cookies are our favorite. We were so sad when their Braeswood location closed from the flooding caused by the storm and we're loving the redesign now that they're back. They just added their own roasted coffee beans. We met a man who roasts the coffee in the store yesterday and he talked to us at length about the process and flavors. He answered our questions and knew his stuff about which blend would be best for our needs. I'm drinking the Guatemalan blend now at home--it's smooth and actually really, really good. Decent bakery when you walk in with lots and lots of selection of breads, pastries, and cakes!!! It smelled delicious and it was hard to decide what to get with all the goodies staring right back at ya! Staff were nice and friendly and ready to assist! I got a box of a dozen mini cinnamon sugar pastries filled with cream cheese and jam! They had a subtle cream cheese flavor and wasn't overly sweet but I thought they'd be a little softer than they actually were. Good flavors but nothing I'd die to come back and get. The chocolate croissant, however, was spread with chocolate so you get it in every bite! It wasn't crispy and flakey like I wanted a croissant to be but it was soft and the ends were crispy cause of the carmelized sugar! It was good! I would come back for a croissant any day! There is also seating area to study and grab a coffee and it was nice and spacious! Good place, good location, and private parking! Not too shabby! read more

I was looking for a new bakery for my 26th birthday and found this place on yelp. I ordered a Red Velvet Cake with Fudge icing and OH MY GODNESS!! They decorated the cake exactly how I wanted it and when we finally cut into it the taste was incredible! The cake was so moist and the fudge icing tasted like a tootsie roll!! The bread and desserts that they sell are mediocre. They have a lot of choices but most of them are too sweet. I tried the banana muffin bread and it's no so sweet. Three Brothers Bakery is an excellent bakery which sells many delicious treats. Additionally, they are super helpful and accommodating with specific requests you may have. For example, my wife and I asked if they could decorate their gingerbread cookies with tuxedos and bridal gowns for our wedding, since it was in December. Not only are their gingerbread cookies some of the best tasting cookies, but they were also decorated beautifully, and our guests loved them. They also made my grooms cake for the rehearsal dinner with a customized college logo on top. Again, the cake was delicious, and the bakery did a wonderful job with our specific request for the decoration. Overall, Three Brothers Bakery is delicious and great for taking requests. I highly recommend going to them for any from wanting a single sweet treat to baked goods for important events (weddings, birthdays, etc.). read more

Dear Lord, please please please make every co worker, husband, boyfriend, parent, and friend purchase me Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes for every occasion. if I could fly that bad boys down to Mexico for my wedding, I would in a heart beat. Every SINGLE thing I have had from this place has been divine, from the poppy seed loaf, to the cookies, to birthday cakes to the strawberry shortcake cupcake that are as big as my hand. Challah, challah, challah. By a long shot, this is the BEST challah in Houston. No other place comes close in terms of flavor, fluffiness, chewiness, deliciousness. It's near perfection, however, they do NOT make poppyseed regularly. Apparently, you can order special order poppyseed, but that seems like a pain. But considering nowhere else comes close, I am willing to eat a plain yet delicious challah over a mediocre poppyseed one. Their gingerbread men are also quite delicious. Perfectly spiced! You need not bother with anything else at this bakery. It's filler. Gingerbread and challah, that's all you need. Some of their stuff is great - some really not so great. As everyone else has mentioned, those coconut danish things are really tasty, for instance. But the lemon bars have funny crumbs on top and aren't that wonderful. They won't slice layer cakes. Some of the cupcakes have been a strange, dry disappointment. I had heard great things about Three Brothers' cakes, and, as a dessert-lover, I was really looking forward to trying their food. An out-of-town friend visited me during her birthday, so we picked up a variety of items from the bakery to have a go. We had: carrot cake, vanilla cake, Italian cream cake, an Oreo cupcake, a few sugar-free cookies, and some other type of cake that is slipping my mind. I can sum the experience up in any number of single words. Mojave. Gobi. Serengeti. Sahara. You can take your pick, because the insides of our items would make any of these famous deserts proud. The carrot cake was particularly offensive; my tongue and cheeks felt like they'd gone three rounds with a sandblaster. The good news is that the frosting is generally quite good if you're a fan of the sweet stuff. However, here, too, I could tell that the items were well past their expiration date. The vanilla cake's frosting had actually hardened into crispy bits here and there, which would have been a bit of a turn off had the actual cake portion not already killed my normally dessert-happy appetite. If I could leave less than 1 star, I absolutely would. Our cakes were more suited to use as desiccants than foodstuffs. read more

What I can say is that my friend got her 8 year old son's birthday cake here and although it was not the best decorated cake I have seen, even for a child's cake it was in fact the most fantastic plain yellow cake with frosting ever. I expected more the first time I went. I think that's why I could give or take this bakery. I'll stop by when I head to Moeller's or happen to be in the area, but it's not worth the drive otherwise. No, I haven't tried the Poppy Seed Loaf, so it may just be that I haven't seen the light, as it were. I got the Poppy Seed Hamantash and also a few of the fruit varieties. Don't stray from the poppy seed. Those are almost enough of a reason to bring me back (time and time again). Why am I so waffley? The cookie part of the cookie was overly cheaply sweet - like Spritz cookies without the butter. I've had Hamantash at other places (NYC), and those were good. Tasted homemade. These...eh. The poppy seed ones were good, but the fruit ones tasted like they used Smuckers. The Rum Balls were pretty awesome. Chocolate-coated orbs of the winter holidays in mid-summer Houston good. The Petit Fours. No. Just, no. It is a nice big mom and pop bakery. Everyone is friendly. Just, stick to the traditional if you go. Also, the cupcakes took up half of their cases. A wide assortment, I think most of them where little mini (giant for cupcakes) versions of all of the cakes they offered. I had too downgrade 3 brothers bakery based on service. They told us last year that it would cost $20 to remake our anniversary cake 6". Today I went to go pick up our anniversary cake and they were charging me 50% more than last year $30. I asked the waitstaff and she told me everything has gone up in price. Ordered a character cupcake for my son's birthday. I was really disappointed with the quality. Frosting was so thick that it wouldn't even stick to the cupcakes. Tops of the cup cakes were breaking off when I tried to keep the frosting on the cupcakes. My son had one bite and gave it back to me. Never again. I came here for the amazing reviews and I wanted to find a go-to bakery to fulfill my cupcake fix. Ever since my experience at Two Little Red Hens bakery in Manhattan, NYC, it's been really difficult to find a bakery that could meet the bar set by Two Little Red Hens. But even with the high bar set, I love baked goods, and even the mediocre ones could make me happy. I hate writing negative reviews, but this place isn't that great. I've tasted better cupcakes from a betty crocker box. HEB makes better cupcakes than this place (no offense to the HEB bakery, I think they make decent cupcakes). I got several flavors, one of which was their "best seller", Chocolate Ripple Fudge Jumbo Cupcake. I was seriously disappointed. The cupcakes themselves tasted stale and dry. The frosting on the chocolate ripple fudge jumbo cupcake tasted very generic, even cheap. The sprinkles made it taste even cheaper. I couldn't finish it. And I love cake. I also had the mocha cupcake. Again, dry and stale tasting, even after it sitting at RT for the whole day hoping it just needed to take the chill off, since it was sitting in a cooler. The icing tasted good though. I also had their cream puff, which tasted incredibly bland, not sweet at all (and I realize, it's not supposed to be overly sweet, and I wasn't looking for it that profile at all), but I couldn't even bring myself to eat it for the sake of not wasting money. I have to give this place 3 stars, even though some items are 5 star worthy. I love the challah bread, croissants, and Italian creme cake. 5 stars for those items. I tried the poppyseed roll, and I give it 4 stars. I'm not a fan of poppyseed, but the texture and chew is nice. The cakes are moist and delicious, but for whatever reason the cupcakes taste dry to me. I've tried probably 1/2 of the cupcake flavors. If you like cupcakes that are so moist, you could eat them without frosting, then you may also find the cupcakes to be dry. The frosting makes the cupcakes better. I'm not a fan of their cookies either, but my personal preference is for crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside cookies. The cookies here are pretty dense and crumbly (reminds me of a Danish butter cookie). Overall, I'll be coming back again, but only for my favorite items. read more

Today I wanted a King Cake last minute so I called around. The 1st bakery I found still offering them was Three Brothers Bakery in Memorial City. They said they should be getting a shipment from Braeswood location & to call back in an hour. When I called back, they apologized that the Braeswood location was behind schedule & would not be delivering any more shipments to other locations today. Ok, that's fine. Even though the Braeswood location was out of the way, I called to see if they would still have some, since apparently that is where the King Cakes are made. I called & was told that they were currently in the process of baking several & that they would have a King Cake for me in an hour or so & to come over then. I was so excited!! I really didn't think I would get so lucky! I get to the Braeswood location 40min later (20min early) to pick up my King Cake. The lady in front of me had just picked up hers & it looked fabulous! I gave them my name & asked for my King Cake w/ raspberry filling & the cashier said that they are all sold out for the day & they only hold a King Cake for you if they take your payment information. THEY NEVER ASKED ME FOR MY PAYMENT INFORMATION! I mean, now that I think of it that would have made sense but I was only asked for my name! I was promised a king cake & was so disappointed that they had sold it to someone else. Had they just told me they were sold out in the first place I wouldn't have been so disappointed. It seriously wasted so much of my time & kind of ruined our Dimanche Gras/Superbowl Sunday. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I'm sure it would've been a yummy King Cake had I actually had the opportunity to try it. :( Now I have to make the King Cake myself & my filling is never as good as most bakeries. Since my 1980 childhood my grandmother and I would walk to this bakery to buy bread and pastries... It is a fond memory of my youth! So naturally, as an adult I have been a loyal patron. I purchase pastries from them every holiday and cakes when there is special event were the grocery just won't do. Their product is superior, the place is clean and I have always been pleased - they are a typical example of a local business that is a wonderful alternative to the everyday norm :) Other reviews have described "customer service issues" and I can tell you that there was a single instance where I encountered an employee who must have been having a bad day. I was contacted by the owner and I also discussed this with the manager Jason. He was apologetic and helpful & even called a week later after I complained to thank me again for my feedback. The next time I called the same person I had complained about (Jasmine) answered the phone and sounded much more positive, pleasant, and helpful. This tells me that they do value customer service and actually continue to train & share feedback with their employees! Great job Jason and Jasmine! I love this place and will continue to be a customer for many years to come! read more

Without a doubt the best challah bread in Houston. The loaf is huge, and oddly for a challah, square, but that just maximizes the ability to slice it for sandwiches. I used this bakery for my wedding. The cake was amazingly beautiful, but the bakery forgot one of THE MOST IMPORTANT things... the cake stand, that I had requested and put a deposit in for. My wedding cake went unnoticed by guests because it was hidden @ table level amidst all the other decorations I had going on in the room. The bakery reimbursed me the money, but I was more upset that we spent a hefty amount of $$ on a pastry that NO ONE saw :-( Better preparation could have bumped my rating to a 5, but unpreparedness is a NO-NO when it's someone's wedding day. I got a cake last weekend for my wife's birthday. It was absolutely beautiful. However, when we tried it, it was absolutely terrible! The vanilla cake did not taste like pure vanilla and the chocolate frosting did not taste like pure chocolate. It tasted like one of the layers was soaked in some kind of syrup that did not taste very good. We each tried (unsuccessfully) to choke a piece down but neither of us made it all the way through and today we threw out the remainder of the cake. Yup. $50.00 into the trash. After having a negative initial experience, Three Brothers Bakery offered to make me another King Cake, free of charge! This time I went with the plain King Cake, no filling. I thought it was better than the cream cheese King Cake and I appreciated the gesture on the part of the company. The cake was delicious and is such a nice Mardi Gras tradition. Not only does it taste good, but it looks good too! The green, purple, and yellow Mardi Gras colors on the cake along with the beads and other decorations, make things about as exciting as it gets when it comes to cake! read more

Three Brothers has the best challah in Houston. It's not even a contest--their challah is better than a lot of stuff I've had at Jewish bakeries in NYC. They also have wonderful kaiser rolls, salt sticks, Jewish-style rye bread (SO much better than ordinary), and other bread items, including many special things on the weekends. With sweet things, don't get anything even remotely trendy--you want to go for the items they've been carrying since before they remodeled and tried to incorporate all this stuff they're not good at. No cupcakes, no red velvet anything, etc. Some good options for sweets: gingerbread men (I grew up on these), old-fashioned cookies like black and white or thumbprint cookies, danish--get ALL the danish, they are so so so good--and coffeecakes. I've never actually had any of their regular cakes, but again the stuff they've been carrying forever is probably your best bet, like the checkerboard or the black forest cakes. (And maybe don't buy pre-cut slices of cake that have been sitting there exposed to the air for hours and then act surprised when they're not so moist.) Basically with Three Brothers, if it's not something that seems like they were selling it in 1980, don't bother. If it is, get as much as you can possibly eat/afford, it will be amazing. I've never had bad service, but it's not the kind of place that lavishes attention and smiles on you--it's a bakery, they sell you food, they're not there to be your friends. The service probably is substandard sometimes, but honestly, who really cares if you get a grouchy cashier? I suppose if you're planning a big event service matters, but otherwise just appreciate the food and relax. (I really shouldn't have written this review at night, because now I NEED some danish and gingerbread men and onion rolls, and I have to wait until morning. It's that kind of place.) read more

The reason why I gave it two stars is purely based on who I am. I felt that my cookies were way too dry and wanted a glass of water after two bites. I like my cookies more buttery and moist rather then dense and thick. But my mom loved the cookies and said she would be back. Two words: NO HIGHCHAIRS. If you're thinking that this might be a great place to take your children to for a treat, think again. I came in with a three year old and a baby in my arms and asked if they had a highchair and was told no. That same woman was helping a very indecisive customer, who could see that I had my hands full, never bothered to ask what I wanted. The other customer said something along the lines of, "Is she waiting? I don't know what I want yet." And the woman working the front shrugged me off again. Finally, one of the other FOUR people working there decided to come and help me. She bagged up our stuff without even asking if we wanted it there or to go, basically saying to me again that they didn't want us eating there, even though they have tables and chairs and several designated areas for eating in.
