Strawberry cheesecake was okay according to the kid. I had a multicolored pinwheel cookie that was pretty but had no flavor. And $3 for it too! OMG and don't get me started on the petit fours. I was looking for a bakery nearby and found this bakery on Google maps. It was great to discover that they're celebrating their 70th year! There were so many choices! I got the chocolate coffee cake to have for breakfast. It was not too sweet at all but I was thinking that it would be more chocolatey. We had a family lunch and I got the chocolate meringue pie and a dozen of cookies - chocolate chip cookies and snickerdoodles. The cookies were such a hit with the kids. The chocolate chip ones disappeared quickly. The chocolate meringue pie was a tad too sweet for me but I loved the meringue part. When I told my husband that I picked up baked goods from here, he instantly knew of this bakery. Our best man and his wife had gotten their wedding cake from this bakery many years ago! read more

This was not my first wonderful experience with this bakery. Actually, they did my daughter's sweet sixteen birthday cake and it was amazing. I had no clue what I really wanted. This small, charming bakery has been around for decades in Houston. I remember visiting the Braeswood location as a child and marveling at their signature gingerbread man, cupcakes, and eclairs. I had the chance to visit again this past Sunday morning. I opted for a Death by Chocolate cupcake and gingerbread man. Death by Chocolate is a pretty accurate name - the delicious chocolate pieces, cream, ganache and cupcake are an intoxicating combination. I absolutely loved it, and shared it with my parents who were similarly impressed. I'm already thinking of excuses to order the Death by Chocolate cake (my birthday can't come soon enough!) The gingerbread man was as sweet and tasty as I remember it - the nostalgia and smoothness of the cookie made for a great teatime snack. Why do businesses think that shouting at you when you enter is good, personal service? It's neither good nor personal. Some distant person screams, "Welcome to Three Brothers Bakery" Am I to answer to some distant voice, somewhere? I half-smile awkwardly to someone, somewhere, but I don't know who. Pros: literally something for everyone. Cookies, pastries, cupcakes, bagels, croissants, breads etc. All seemed to be generous in size. We tried a cherry pastry, sesame bagel, Reese peanut butter cup-chocolate chip cookie, and a chocolate chip cookie sandwich (seen in my photos). All were tasty, but nothing extraordinary. Cons: the prices seemed high to me. (The cookie sandwich seen in my photos cost $6.) I would not have ordered it if I had known the price. Regular cookies were around $2 apiece, and the bagel was a great deal at around $1.50. Another con was the employees were generally unfriendly. Since it was my first visit, and the selection is huge, it took me a little longer to order, and that seemed to be an inconvenience. For so many years, Three Brothers has been my boss's favorite bakery shop, and of course mine too. He buys, I eat, good deal, isnt it?! The carrot cakes never fail and are OMG sooooooo darn delicious. It was nice to visit the store in person after so many months attributable to the pandemic, and it was even nicer to see local businesses surviving and doing well during these difficult times. #supportlocalbusiness :) The sweet aroma of the baked goods throughout the store is always pleasurable. NEGATIVE experience. Ordered a birthday cake online, paid online. Day/time of pick up- NO CAKE. On my way to Dallas with no cake. I asked for a cash refund as I would have to pay for another cake somewhere along the way. No cash refunds- was told I would have to wait 3-5 days for a refund. Three Brothers is nostalgia for me. As a child, my mom would stop by here and let me pick out one treat. I always opted for the rum balls (not sure what that says about me). I also have loved the very eggy challah here and the hamantaschen (which luckily are sold year round). I had not been to the bakery in years since I live out of state, but this week I was at a conference at Rice University and realized I could take a very slight detour on the way back to my mom's to get some treats here. I was SO excited to get a rum ball and relive my favorite childhood taste, plus an assortment of hamantaschen (blueberry for Eric R., poppyseed, chocolate chip with nutella, s'mores)! They truly are incredible - the "cookie" dough is really delicious and "sturdy" so these do not crumble. I know the bakery ships pies but I wish they shipped hamantaschen! Three Brothers also made the groom's cake (carrot cake - Eric R.s favorite) for our wedding (over a decade ago) with a house divided design (UT/A&M). It of course was delicious and memorable. It's Carnival, we're in the back end of a pandemic, and I haven't been home to New Orleans in many years; this was to be my one bit of joy, and nothing was about to take it from me. We stopped by the bakery after I picked her up as I wanted to pick up some cookies for my coach's birthday. This has been on my "to try" radar for awhile. Today we wanted something sweet, so we picked up a carrot cake. The frosting is very good, but upon cutting into the cake it was obvious the cake was either old or way too dry. Especially a carrot cake - it should be moist! Instead it crumbled apart everywhere and caved in on itself. So anyway, I checked the yelp reviews and saw this has been an ongoing issue. It's a shame because the flavor is good, but it's just not appealing to eat crumbly, dry cake. We got through half a slice before giving up. I don't think I can recommend at this time. Spending $30+ on a cake should come with a basic expectation of quality. I hope they revisit the recipe formulations, since something is obviously wrong. read more

I've been here a few times. And I like the place. It's located on South Braeswood between Stella Link and the railroad track. I hear it's been open for many years. UPDATE: Custom cake was just terribly made. Even after letting the cake "sit out" for a few hours. The cake was just out right disgusting. Walmart makes better cakes than that. The buttercream frosting was hard (think of dried up Play-doh) . The "cream cheese" frosting was utterly too sweet. It gave me indigestion. The actual cake was hard and crumbly and DRY. I love Three Brothers - we have been coming to this location since I was a little kid, but it has been a few years now that I have one open closer to me in The Heights/Washington area. It was like a blast from the past when I came here recently to place a custom sheet cake order - there is just something about the mom and pop feel here that is comforting and makes me want to buy everything in site! I used to frequent this bakery when I lived in the med center. Primarily for the corn rye loaves. You can typically get them cheap on the day old table. This bread is so fantastic and unlike any other bread I've had. Has the sour rye flavor (sans caraway seeds) plus a crunchy exterior like corn bread. I believe it's a Jewish bread. Just walking into this place is worth a visit, I think that's what Heaven smells like. The kolaches and other cookies and cupcakes are not particularly memorable, however. This is a bread only destination to me. Also, they must have some amazing challah bread, because they get a ton of orders for that during that time of the year. Also the Mardi gras cakes.
