Finally got around to trying the new place in town. Only Indian food restaurant in the area. Expensive for lunch. They open at 11:30am so are open for lunch and dinner. However, there is only a single menu that's used for all day. Clean, small dining area. No strong odors of any kind. Order and pay at the front. The friendly employee will help you place your order. This was my first visit and hubby's second. Hubby ordered the Chili Chicken (very spicy) $10.99. He loves this spicy dish. Garlic Naan $2.99 I ordered Lamb Curry $11.99. This dish has good flavor. Is spicier than Thai curry dishes. Had maybe six chunks of lamb meat floating in a bowl of gravy. Would have thought it would have had more substance for the price? Wow! First visit today for my husband and myself. Their business is largely carry-out but there is some tables if you want to dine in. The menu is large and there were so many things I wanted to try but after having the vegetable pakoras and chicken saag, I don't know if I can make myself order anything else! FINALLY! Indian food in the Algonquin area! Thank you. I have been living in the area for 2 years and desperately wanting an Indian Restaurant even if its express. Making the trip to Schaumburg or into the city for my fix is definitely not convenient. We ordered Samosas, Paneer Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, Veg Biryani and Naan for take away. The flavors were spot on for every dish we ordered. If this is your first experience with Indian food you will not be disappointed. The samosas were fried to perfection and NOT soggy or greasy. The Tikka masala and vindaloo were so delicious I practically drank the gravies right out of the containers even though I had naan to scoop it up. The reason this review is a 4 and not a 5 is because the Lamb Vindaloo was $12 and only had like 10 medium to small pieces of lamb and big chunks of potatoes. I wanted more lamb in my LAMB Vindaloo. Also the gravies did not come with a side of rice. Another thing, the menu says the lamb vindaloo is extremely hot. For people who do not like or not used to spice then yeah I guess it can be considered extremely hot. I would consider the description "extremely hot" to mean I'm crying and my nose is dripping. A no fuss dining experience with flavorful food and friendly staff. Ordered the spinach paneer, chicken biryani, garlic naan and butter naan. Ordered tonight via Grubhub. Ordered dal palak, Baingan Bharta (eggplant dish) and 2 naans. The taste of the dal was totally salty while the eggplant dish was totally bland. Both of the extremely small portions were very watery and. Lacked volume. Unfortunately I don't see myself ordering from there again. I will be sticking with my Devon choices for my Indian fix. Pity. As someone who has eaten Indian food from all around the USA and world I feel comfortable saying this is amazing food! I will definitely be coming back a lot! The samosas are a fantastic combo of flavor and spice. The tikka masala and chicken curry are delicious and make me wish I ordered more! Can not express how much I enjoyed this meal. Our go-to Indian takeout. Since we recently moved to the area we took a bet on trying this restaurant for takeout and were blown away. Honestly some of the best Indian food we have had any they have a fantastic menu. We love the korma, tikka masala, and butter chicken/paneer. We prefer to order on the weekends as the food seems to be better then! I had ordered Biriyani many moons ago so thought to order again. So, we ordered: 1) Chicken Biriyani 2) Chilli Chicken The order was delivered prompt and food was a horrible experience. The chilli chicken had a weird smell and had to throw it out and the biriyani was not something to eat hence threw that away as well. I went to the restaurant to give my feedback and a guy named Jai took my feedback. As soon as Jai looked at me, he said if you were looking for a Hyderabadi biriyaani this is not the place and that north indians make a different style biriyaani. I responded to him stating that, it doesn't matter if it is North or Hyderabadi, the food needs to be edible. He mentioned that he wasn't the owner and the owner's name is Kumar and that he can't help. So he took my name and the phone number. It has been a week and still waiting to hear back. Best Indian food in the suburbs. Great flavor. Great Naan and chicken tiki masala. Consistent.

I love their coconut shrimp curry. It is a little expensive but shrimp usually is one of the pricier dishes at any restaurant. When I go here I always do carry out as the restaurant itself is very small and barren, there is no artwork or anything on the walls or even music so there's really nothing to see. If you want the full experience of an Indian restaurant I would probably go someplace else. Good food, though. read more

I've ordered here eight times since I learned Algonquin FINALLY got some Indian takeout in December (thanks grubhub data) and ordered 2-3 new items each time. Every single thing I've tried has been incredible. Some items tasted a little more floral than I cared for, but it depends on your own taste. You can't go wrong with the samosas, paneer makhani, or aloo gobhi. I hope this place sticks around for a long time. UPDATE: Ordered from this place again now that we've been advised to stay at home during the outbreak, and the food was excellent as always, and the staff included a complimentary dessert with the order. Been here a couple of times and once a carry out! It's neat small place. Somehow I don't have anything nice to say about this place. Firstly it's expensive and when you dine in there they serve you food in the same disposable paper products that you get carry out in, we ordered butter chicken all the times and it was spicy and the carry out portion was just enough for one . The panir tikka Masala was half cooked we could taste the rawness of the spices. They charge for rice with your main unlike other Indian places where it comes free. Finally! Indian food in McHenry County. I tried them the other day and I was pleasantly surprised. Other reviews said they lacked spice but that's not the case. My daughters both got the chili chicken and they thought it was flavorful. I ordered the chicken biryani and I liked it well enough, but I found the addition of green onions to be too much. Their garlic naan was freshly baked. I will definitely be back! It's a great find if you're like me and get tired of driving all the way to Schaumburg to get Indian food. This area has such limited food diversity and I applaud anyone who can establish a good restaurant here and make it stick. My only issue is not with the food. The front end of the restaurant is ok, as far as decor. Maybe a little sparse. The back end toward the bathroom was cluttered with objects from the previous owner - an oven and a stove - to name a few. Oh my word!! I was so glad to learn that Algonquin has an Indian restaurant and tonight was the night I tried it. Amazing!! I ordered Saag Paneer, Buttered Chicken and Rice. Oh and a Mango Lassi and enjoyed it all. I did order the Saag Paneer and Buttered Chicken with light spice and it was just perfect. Enough spice for the delicious flavor. The chicken was lean and not one piece of fat or gristle. The paneer (cheese cubes) were sized per portion and the texture was right on. Oh and may I mention the cream sauce for the buttered chicken was perfect. What a perfect meal overall. I will be a returning guest and look forward to using Thumka Express for my catering needs!! This place was SO good. Now, disclaimer, this was my first time trying Indian food so I have no prior experience to compare it to. I had rice, garlic naan, and a chicken in a cashew sauce. The sauce was flavorful and deep, the chicken was tender, the rice was perfectly cooked and fluffy. The two gentlemen working were friendly and kind, and provided lots of suggestions/answers to my questions. Also got some mango lassi to go and it was the perfect ending to a great meal. P.S. Tried this new Indian express for the first time last week. Sounds like they opened a couple of weeks ago. I was so excited to have Indian food so close to home Oscar at the front desk was so friendly and very helpful! We love Indian food and frequent many Indian sit down restaurants so I was anxious to try a variety! My family tried the appetizer Chicken 65, which was very bland for our taste. Then my son had Chicken Tikka Masala and we ordered it a 5 out of 10 spice level. Well it was too bland... which is our fault but it was really good! My husband and I ordered Chicken Kadai at a spice level of 7-10 and it was too bland for us. We will definitely go back but have to adjust the spice level. I will send pictures of the menu. Tried this place on a cold winter night with hubby. Haven't had Indian in a while since it's not too prevalent in the Algonquin area. Hubby is not a fan of Indian food so it was a bit of a hard bargain lol. I tried the typical that I normally eat at Indian places - Chicken tikka massala. The sauce was pretty good and the portion was reasonable. The chicken was not bad however probably not the freshest it could have been. Unfortunately the entrees don't come with rice so that was extra. I think some sort of side should come with entrees particularly given that the entree price is about $15-17 or so. Husband got the butter chicken - overall his dish was reasonable as well, same issue with not coming with any side.
