After having experienced a most horrendous, nasty, vile interaction at flea infested Coyote Cantina, my cousin and I were hopeful to have even a fraction better experience here. A patio waitress delivered a most genuine, warm, respectful interaction. The calamari was absolutely fantastic. The cocktails were crafted with tactical expertise. This was an absolutely fantastic way to cap the downtown Plaza tourist experience (for a couple of lifelong natives). Even the other wait staff that we didn't have addressing our concerns were incredibly respectful, polite, professional, and knowledgeable. Our patio waitress, who was relatively new, knew the menu up one side and down the other and made spectacular recommendations. She was nothing short of utterly pleasant. Me and my girlfriend came to thunderbird and we got sat down by Leo. He was super friendly and honestly probably the best service I have ever gotten from a server. He always refilled our waters without having to ask. He made sure we were taken care of. The food was amazing. I had the The Hangover and my girlfriend had The Chicken Sandwich. We just popped in here for a drink, it's one of the few bars that's open mid day. They have a huge restaurant that was packed with diners, and a heated outside area. We passed in that, too chilly for me. We sat up at the big long bar and were served immediately. They have massive TV Screens with various sports on. The bar is located off the main plaza and you need to go up the stairs to access it. Ideal for large groups and families. read more

There was a lot of activity on the Governers Square in Santa Fe. We had been walking around and wanted to sit and watch the activities. We tried another place with outdoor seating, but the wait was too long. We went upstairs and sat within a few minutes on their balcony. We ordered something to drink and the sliders for an appetizer. We had dinner plans already and didn't want to be too full. The balcony is narrow, and they fit as many high-top tables as possible out there. You will sit pretty close to those around you, but it wasn't bad. We were able to see the activities and hear the music. The sliders were ok. The buns were much larger than the meat, but they had a good flavor. It was served with french fries. All in all, it was pretty good. The staff was friendly and attentive. read more

I couldn't believe watching all the service workers congregate at bar as I watched two sets of tables walk out because no one came to get drink or food order. As a business owner I would definitely want to know this and I would definitely start pulling security cameras. Our waitress quit about 15 minutes after taking our order. We waited a very long time to get the check from someone else while 3 other tables near us waited forever for someone to take their orders. It was a mess. Food was ok but they messed up our order. I hope they can get things in order because it is a neat lil place next to Plaza Cafe in downtown Santa Fe. I believe this establishment is probably really good. Sadly, that was not our experience. We watched the employee unlock the door promptly at 1130am. He welcomed us in and we made our way upstairs to the second floor. As we walked into the main dining area, the Manager greeted us with, "How'd y'all get in here?" I replied, "With my key." And then added, "The gentleman downstairs unlocked the door and we were told to come up." We chose to sit outside in the covered deck area. Our waiter came out and asked how many were in our party. We said 2. And he snatched the additional 2-person table from us, saying No, no. You cannot have 2 tables. Ok, buddy...we didn't put the table there. Calm down. He brought water and asked if we wanted a drink. I asked for calamari and queso. He stormed off, walking into the table he just moved and slammed the door. The calamari came out - with a medium length black hair in it. The queso was fine. I did order a margarita when he came back out and I wish I would not have. This is definitely a 5 star place on food, atmosphere, and most definitely the service. I'm from Oklahoma, but here in Santa Fe for 2 days. My receptionist at my hotel recommended Thunderbird to me, I'm amazed and will definitely be stopping here if I'm ever in town again. I sat at the bar. Rick happened to be my server and bartender. He was absolutely amazing, so welcoming and friendly. Made my drinks perfectly. I was hungry, and everything sounded good, so I asked him what he recommended. And let me tell you, he didn't disappoint whatsoever. I ended up ordering the scallop linguine like he had recommended. My food was out in a good time, and the scallops were absolutely perfect. Had a great view of the plaza and could hear the live music while we enjoyed our first night in NM. The food is okay. Kind of Americanized NM food. Steaks, nachos, salads. It was good but not as good as some of the other meals we had. Atmosphere bumped this up to a 4 star experience. Con: table was wobbly. When we tried to stick napkins under it, the leveling pad came off and it was worse. No one offered to help, so we made sure one of us kept our elbow on the tippy side. Pro: if you meet Rick, tell him "Gail" and Nancy say hello. It won't give you any edge on the other diners but you might hear a fun story. The guacamole was very good but the other dips were average. The spicy margarita with jalapeños was very good and the strawberry margarita was smooth. We moved on to house specialty drinks. The prickly pear lemonade cocktail was okay...a little too tart. But the Thunderbird Punch...well, let's just say that we could get seriously stupid on a few of those. Normally you complain these days for bad service and it's due to short staff but this place was due to being over staffed, standing around and not being attentive to their tables. Owner did come out to say hello but I had to ask for our waiter X 2 and chase him down when we needed our ticket. I tend to think you don't need expensive liquor to make a good margarita and this one did not change my mind on that but it was nice to sip on their veranda on a beautiful day in Santa Fe. My wife and I ate here twice during our visit to Santa Fe. Both times we sat outside and the service we received was excellent. The first day we had Vanessa as our waitress and the service we received was outstanding. My wife and I both had salads and they were great. Mine was the chicken caesar and it was fresh and delicious. The dressing was good and it didn't smother the salad. The meat was fresh and well cooked it almost melted in your mouth. The second day my wife had the same salad and I had the club sandwich. The sandwich was excellent, fresh, and almost melted in your mouth.
