Yesterday was my first time eating at a Thundercloud Subs, as a friend is on a Paleo diet and she knew that she could get a great salad there - and her salad did look really good! I got a full turkey sub and it was pretty good. The whole wheat bread was excellent, all the veggies and guacamole were fresh - all in all a pretty great sandwich. The only things that I didn't like about Thundercloud was up at the counter, being the first time I had been there it seemed a little hectic. There wasn't a defined line, and it was really odd that the standard sandwiches seemed to come with lettuce and you had to add on almost everything else - cheese, veggies..etc. etc. I spent just over $8 not including tip for my sandwich and an unsweet iced tea. This seemed a bit high to me, considering Subway's prices. I know Thundercloud isn't a giant chain like Subway but it just took me by surprise a little. All in all though, a pretty good experience. I'd like to go back and try more things. read more

This is not a sub shop. Its a yuppie eatery named after a sub shop. Any sub shop that does not carry steak and cheese? Not a sub shop. Its a SANDWICH shop. Rename your stores. So i ended up with a meatball sub. They were out of white bread had to get wheat. The sub is so wet, cant pick it up and eat it, have to eat it with a knife and fork. The bread tastes odd, even for wheat bread. Almost like someone handled it with soap on their hands. The meatballs taste like they are 2 days old and burnt. Youll never see me in a TCS again. There are 2 things Texas needs. A real sub shop, not quiznos or subway. And real chinese food. read more

I LOVE Thundercould but this one DISAPPOINTS me TREMENDOUSLY......The employees are NOT friendly by ANY means. They just want to know what you want and that's it. When the guy made my sandwich he left off the bacon (it was a BLT, for goodness sakes!!!) How can you forget the BACON on a BLT??? Once he put the bacon on the sandwich and I sat down to eat, it wasn't crispy either. I actually prefer the way Subway has their sandwich counters where you can see them making your sandwich, because had I noticed it wasn't crispy bacon I would've asked for them to nuke it in the microwave or something. I wouldn't go out of my way to return to this location, but if I was in the area and just HAD to have Thundercloud, maybe I'd return, but I'd prefer to drive to RR to get a good sandwich and service all in one. I ordered an Austin Club (Chicken, Bacon and Avocado) and got a Roast Beef with Avocado instead, but the service was so damn friendly, I didn't really care. The (wrong) sandwich wasn't half bad either. And let's be honest, I probably didn't need to eat that bacon anyway! I'm a local realtor here in the Austin area. I reconnected with one of my clients this past week, we finally spoke yesterday. Her husband of 30 years had been in a motorcycle accident, and I offered to buy her food for her family at the hospital. I chose local, and Lauren, a manager at Thundercloud Parmer helped us. I had my sister deliver it for me, and as soon as my client left her, she was hit by a child running and dropped the whole party tray of sandwiches. My client's son called up to Thundercloud and explained the story. Lauren replaced the whole tray for them at no charge!!! Lauren, I know this was small to you, but it was huge to this family that is still there waiting on their husband/father at STICU. Thank you for having sprouts this makes my sandwich and am repeat customer because of sprouts! But was freezing inside building....it's like my clients homes large and cold. I wanna live off grid because it's easy to be warm when you don't have a whole whatever square foot area to heat so you don't even bother?! Lol I will take something small and cozy thank you. With that said, the Classic Club I had was great. really well made with lots of bacon. It's nice to find a good sandwich shop in an unexpected location. This location is on the up-and-up. As a long-time Austinite, I've been to my share of Thunderclouds. Almost every location in town is fantastic, but this one suffered for some time after opening a few years back. Lately, the quality has increased greatly. This is the only reson I feel compelled to write this review. The unfriendliest of the employees have vanished, the vibe is more personable, the music more ambient, and the potato salad is now homemade, just like the other Thunderclouds (for awhile they were trying to pass off that yellow bucket stuff with pimientos). Try their homemade lemonade! For the amount of labor that goes into it, it's priced resonably... and on a hot day, it is a miracle beverage! The reson this store may have suffered is because it is a franchise. A lot of times, franchises don't feel compelled to adopt all of the standards of their affiliate corporation. Lately, it is more indistinguishable from the other T-Clouds in quality and friendliness! read more

I had a veggie delight and thought it was OK. I chose the hummus and so it was just too mushy for me but I think the other sandwiches are probably better. It seems like a great place of business - the woman who greeted me was very friendly and has a 'mom and pop' feel. Several friends of mine rave about it, too. If there were other vegetarian options for me then I would go back. But maybe next time I'll just get a smoothie :) read more

It's connected to the firestone. I had trouble finding it as the GPS sucked. Staff is super friendly, all glove wearing! Building is clean, smells nice. Bathroom clean. The avocado had an oddly poor taste... Really put a kink in the sandwich. So make sure the ask them to check it before they put it on your sub. read more

I love thundercloud subs but eat at the one off Burnet road, NOT this one. This ones a douche hole full of douches. jus sayin. I haven't been back to it in several months (probably close to a year actually) despite the fact it's much closer to my house than the Burnet Rd. one. Great service although since there were so many people working at once, their communication wasn't best and it was a little awkward at some points because some workers kept asking me if i still needed to order when i was just waiting on my food. other than that the food was great. Love Thunderclouds. Very Austin feel, with writing on the walls, that local band you've never heard of, and the general earthiness. While this isn't my favorite location, the others float it. The staff give me a vibe like they don't care, and don't care to wash their hands. That aside, the food is delicious, as always! read more

Normal good Thundercloud flavor; staff isn't quite as friendly as at the other locations. Still a reliable fresh sandwich for me when I'm in the area on Saturdays. I would choose another Thundercloud over this one if I were in-between the two but this one definitely works when I'm hungry! read more

So I've never been drawn to the whole thundercloud subs thing. And this is my first time here but if they make all sandwiches like they do the chicken salad sandwich, then I'm a fan!! I've been frequenting this location for a decade. I finally decided to write this review because of an employee that's been working there for years. As it goes in life, often, people make a place what it is. Marcus plays that role at this location. He's fast, friendly, never *ucks up my order, and it's always a fantastic sandwich experience when he's the captain, 5 stars if he's on deck, and a respectable 4-4.5 stars average for all the other components and employees of the location. read more

I go to ThunderCloud Subs pretty often. Tonight, I stopped by after work to get a sandwich and I was not happy. The night manager, Thomas, made my sandwich in less than 2 minutes. I paid and tipped. When I got home, my sandwich barely had any bacon, lettuce or sauces on it. The turkey and cheese were hanging off my sandwich. I tried to eat my sandwich, but couldn't finish it because it tasted like crap. I will no longer be coming back to this ThunderCloud Subs. read more

Something has gone terribly wrong at this location. I love ThunderCloud Subs, but yesterday the service was so slow that I gave up waiting. There were only 3 unmistakably new staff members trying to make sandwiches at 12:15 for a dozen people already in line ahead of me. Today I went back with coworkers at 11:00 and was waited on in a reasonable time by an amateur who apparently didn't know the protocol as well as I do, as a long term customer. She made no offers of the usual choices. She just said "what do you want," and "what do you want on it." Of course I knew, but it was clear validation that this was not the service we expected. Then she made our sandwiches (poorly. I might as well have asked for bread only) under the counter out of view, which was the trigger for me to ask questions about what's really going on since I recognized only one staff member. I was told that the manager and regular staff had walked! I have empathy for those who were trying to fill in..... but we were very disappointed with the visit. Please fix it. read more

How is Thundercloud still a thing? Nostalgia is all I can think of. Back in the day when your only choices were Subway and (I don't even know what else) I guess it was considered a good choice. I mean it was local before eating local was such a big deal and you could buy a bag of really primo chips with your order. And by chips I mean weed. But now? The sandwiches are mostly bread and that bread sucks. The ingredients are very low quality and they charge you extra for everything you want. I appreciate how quickly they try to get the line moving but next time ---really ....take a minute ...wash your hands... I'll wait ....I don't mind . Who am I kidding? There won't be a next time. Why would I subject myself to this terrible food when I could drive another 5 minutes and get a true local artisan Sandwich for about the same price?? The Blind Squirrel, the Noble Pig, even Schlotzsky's. Hell, if we're talking dollars to Donuts a sandwich from the deli at HEB is better than this, and cheaper. Sorry Thundercloud I will just have to find my nostalgia somewhere else. One day I walked into this location and as I was waiting in line, I got inexplicably frightened. I wanted to hide under a table or pull the (nonexistent) covers over my head. Why this sudden terror? It took a minute to register, but I realized the song that was playing was Wicked Annabella by the Kinks. When I was a wee tot, my dad was a Kink's fan and would play this song. The lyrics are pretty creepy and I was deathly afraid of Wicked Annabella. If I was being unruly at bedtime, my parents wouldn't threaten me with the boogie man or a spanking, all they needed to do was utter the name Wicked Annabella and I would straighten right up. I hadn't heard the song in years, but I still had a very visceral response. Luckily it's a short song, so by the time I got to the counter to order, my crisis was over. The counter guys were friendly and reassuring and the sandwich was tasty. I've been back with no further repressed childhood memory incidents, but friendly service and tasty sandwiches every time. read more

This is the worst Thundercloud location I have ever been too. I felt so bad for the 2 guys working there last Thursday 4/1 when they were offering the ham sub special. There was a line all the way around the store and they could have used some extra help. I noticed a really bad odor near the front of the restaurant. I will say that the staff were very friendly especially considering how overwhelmed they were. I've never been impressed with the quality of the sandwiches at this location and I keep telling myself that I wont go back, but the location is convenient. I suggest having extra staff on days when you offer big specials. read more

Been to this location a few times. The food and the cleanliness are acceptable, but, then, I have modest expectations of a place like this. The biggest annoyance on my last visit was the awful, bizarre, loud music they were playing. It was basically a weird, rhythmic buzzing sound. (My teenage son, who listens to plenty of odd music, hated it too, so we had to leave and eat in the car.) Like most Austin hipsters working in these places, the staff plays music that THEY like; if every customer finds the music annoying, well, that's their problem. (I once took a bunch of little kids to an Amy's Ice Creams where they had to listen to some offensive Metallica while getting their ice cream cones.) Staff also seemed offended when we just ordered a sandwich with no chips or soda. People are loyal to Thundercloud because it's an Austin institution, and I get that, but I think Thundercloud tends to take advantage of our loyalty at this point. And, as an "Austin institution," some of their staff can sometimes display the condescending "hipper than thou" Austin attitude that is so ridiculous and annoying. It's usually more of a problem at the locations closer to campus, but the guys at this location had it too. Maybe I just tend to show up at these places when the managers aren't around, but I'm surprised they don't exercise a little more control over what garbage they let the workers play. So, after we left, my son asked me, "Why don't we just go to [chain sandwich shop] next time?" I didn't have a good answer. read more

One day I just got tired of all of the food places I have been going to and decided to try something new. Yes I had never tried Thundercloud subs before this and I had heard a lot of good things about it, so I thought eh what the heck I'm going to give it a chance. Worst mistake ever. So I walk in and I see a fairly dirty, outdated restaurant. I did not judge it at all by its look because I know some great places in Austin are pretty outdated. I still walked up to the counter to be greatest by an extremely friendly employee. I thought that was the beginning of something good. Wrong. As more and more customers come in the one employee that greeted me went to the back to call another employee for help. Out came the ogre. I'm not judging by physical looks I'm judging by hygiene. A man with dirty clothes, a extremely strong smell of must on him and worst; as he was walking out of what looked like the restroom I noticed a few stains on his shorts near his crotch area. I was disgusted and even more when I noticed he didn't was his hands as he proceeded to make my sandwich. I got the California Sub with avocado, turkey and bacon. It was the nastiest most disgusting sand which I had ever paid for. I paid 9 dollars for the combo, what a waste. read more
