This joint ended up in my bookmarks somehow; I'm thinking it was a list of "best of/best tacos"? What I found was a few large steps short of mediocre. First, when you walk in, there is no sign telling you to seat yourself... Or wait for a hostess. So, I waited behind two gentlemen who seemed to be having trouble with a pick up order. I approached the register and placed my order which was met with a direction to go sit, that line was for to-go only. Gee, thanks. I only stood there 5-min and no one said shit. Once seated, it took too long (the restaurant was all but empty) for anyone to approach me. Ordered chorizo and egg plate with hash browns, coffee, and water. When my food was delivered...I still hadn't received my coffee and water...had to remind the server. Had I not caught her, I probably would never have seen the drinks given how little the server was around. The meal was bad. The eggs and chorizo came out barely warm. The hash browns were so salty they were practically inedible. I left plenty of food on my plate when I left, which rarely happens. Then, I approached the counter to pay. I watched as an employee - who was standing RIGHT THERE Y'ALL - get a soda from the fridge, open it, take a swig, look directly at me...and walk away. I had order the Barbacoa plate with papas AMAZING not dry like other places !! and the papas were so soft and delicious. I never really rate restaurants i eat at but i had to for this location near north star mall. HUGE THUMBS DOWN TO THIS PLACE. I've been to Tia's Taco Hut Blanco Rd location to get tacos here several times, but this is the last time. I ordered eight tacos and each one felt like they were running short on ingredients. I actually had to combine two bean and cheese tacos to get any flavor out of them. I didn't know San Antonio was running short on beans. (*see pic) Starting to feel like Taco Cabana, practically putting in as little as they can in their tacos. Also, they charge you extra if you want more hot sauce, when every other place in town doesn't. So, you wanna get short changed? Ive order through ubereats from here several times and the food has always been spot on. Today however it wasnt. My order wasnt wrong it just didnt have everything it said it should. Because of that I didnt find the food as tasty as usual and was disappointed. The food was also very watery so it was leaking everywhere and no straw for my drink. I go twice a year or more to my doctor close to Tias. Afterwards I go to Tias Taco Hut and get my juevos rancheros. Coffee and flour tortillas and fried potatoes and also refried beans. The food is always perfect and fresh. Best coffee ever. Great service. Prices are very reasonable. My favorite breakfast in San Antonio. The staff are very friendly and attentive to my needs! I had been craving some down home, no frills Mexican food and Tia's Taco Hut checked off all of the boxes. Since I moved to Dallas from San Antonio, finding a really good, family-owned Mexican restaurant has been difficult. Many are a bit pretentious and just try to be too fancy and do way too much. On my last visit to San Antonio this past week, my sister recommended I come to Tia's and boy am I glad I did. Let's start with the chips and salsa: the chips are homemade and served fresh and still warm, they are nice and thick and hold up really well to the salsa. The salsa is absolutely delicious oh, it has a nice warmth to it but not "burn a hole in your tongue" spicy. I ordered the tejano plate which came with two cheese enchiladas, lengua guisada, rice, beans and 2 homemade flour tortillas...needless to say, I was in heaven. The enchiladas are everything you could wish for in a plain cheese enchilada, the corn tortillas we're perfectly pliable, stuffed amply with cheese and their red sauce was savory and delicious. The lengua guisada is prepared just like carne guisada, with the same rich gravy and spices with the meat cooked to beautifully tender perfection. My mom ordered the beef fajitas so I tried a piece of the beef and it was really well seasoned and had a good chew to it without being tough. My niece ordered the small portion of the chicken tortilla soup and although I did not try it, it came in a decently sized bowl with cheese, fried tortilla strips, cilantro, onions and slices of avocado for the soup. My niece went on and on about how good it was and they also did not skimp on the amount of chicken that the soup had as well, I'm definitely ordering this next time I'm in town!! read more

This location is a hit or miss really. I frequent them because it's a convenient location with a drive through and I like their papa ranchera taco. Otherwise their quality can be frustrating at times. To the point where I swear that I won't go back, which I still do because its convenient. The tacos are on the smaller side, especially the bean & cheese. Also you get one salsa per two tacos unless you want to pay $0.50 for an extra one. read more

I heard about Tia's Taco Hut in a local post. We went for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. The place is easy to find & the decor was done very well. Our waitress took our order and explained the lunch specials. I had the Fideo Loco soup. I've never had it before but was glad I had ordered it today, the weather was perfect for a bowl of soup. The soup had the fideo, ground beef, beans, potato and squash. The seasoning was perfect, I squeezed the wedge of lemon it was served with and enjoyed every drop of soup. My spouse had the carne guisada and said the meat was tender & tasty. We'll have to go another day to try out more daily lunch specials. read more

My first visit here was a very good experience! After a year of this challenging pandemic, I'm still not eating in a restaurant. I got some tacos and 2 dinners "to go". I ordered the "Laredo plate" (two cheese enchiladas, one puffy taco with ground beef, rice and beans and 2 freshly-made flour tortillas). Also, the Gordita plate (2 yummy gorditas with ground beef, rice and beans and 2 freshly-made flour tortillas). Everything was made to order and really delicious. The ground beef was very well seasoned and tasty. Also, they were generous with both the red and green hot sauces that accompanied my to go order.The tacos ordered were simple bean and cheese, but even those reheated were very good! Although the Austin market is very competitive, I hope that Tia's Taco Hut will expand here one day! Looking forward to my next visit and stop in San Antonio. read more

Someone ripped me off and charged me $49.45 on a $9.45 order for one bean and cheese taco and a chicken quesadilla. Tried to call and speak to the manager and at first they tried to tell me I was calling the wrong store and then when I called back was lied to and told that I was speaking to a manager and then later back tracked and said that she was just the cashier and couldn't help me. Tried to call the number that they gave me for the manager and can't get a response. I guess I will have to resolve this with my bank but definitely just lost me as a customer. This use to be my go to taco place until I had an issue with their quality control and poor management. We fed our infant child a potato and egg taco and upon them eating it we saw that they had a piece of metal (not foil it was thicker) in their mouth. Thankfully we caught it in time before they sallowed it. I called the restaurant and brought it to their attention and they mentioned it was from their metal brush to clean their dishes. I requested a refund for this and they said I would need to bring in my tacos to get a refund. I couldn't believe that they would only do a refund based off that. I'll never eat there again. If a business isn't able to show their sympathy by issuing a full refund for this type of incident, I don't need to give them my business. Check your food and eat at at your own risk. read more

This little place is a hidden gem. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. We're from Houston and first went there at the end of October. When back in S.A. for Thanksgiving, our waitress remembered us and greeted us as though we were regulars. The food is good and the portions are generous. The prices are very reasonable.
