Came here with my husband for my birthday dinner and got food poisoning from the undercooked salmon. I was up for hours in the bathroom. My husband made a reservation and they sat us at a high top next to the bar. I assumed we would sit somewhere nicer. The drinks and dessert were great, as well as our server. We called the next day to let them know what happened and were able to speak to the manager. She was very empathetic and offered us a full refund. So disappointing!! Not recommended at all if you are with your kids and specially if you are a single parent . Forbes Steakhouse owners opened Tides officially 8/3/23. For only being open two days the restaurant was running as a well oiled machine. Typical of many new restaurant launches, they had a soft opening about a week ago. The restaurant is elegant but casual. Servers have been trained with classic table management skills like proper silverware and glass placement. This was no surprise, since that is the service we get at Forbes. It appears senior servers were also training new servers tonight so I fully expect service to became a tad less attentive, but exceptional, as the restaurant gets into the daily groove. We started with the Caesar salad. This was not your ordinary Caesar that is a boring pile of lettuce. The chef presented the salad very attractively. The homemade Parmesan crisp was standing up just waiting to be eaten. Taste was excellent. Our next coarse was seared scallops over corn succotash. Wow! Next was the Ora King salmon over pea purée, pea and wild mushrooms and pea tendrils. Ora is possibly the best mild salmon, but still flavorful. Ora is sustainably farmed in New Zealand. It is highly sought after. The sauce could have had a tad more flavor to blend with the flavorful salmon. The green beans were nicely done without being over cooked. For desert we had the Lemon chiffon cake. The presentation was exceptional and nothing like we expected. It was a great ending to the evening. Clearly, Tides wants to push the presentation and flavor envelopes. Note: servers made certain we knew the restaurant was starting with a small menu and would be embellishing it as the kitchen and patrons help define an expanded menu. Came here Christmas Eve dinner and figured by all the good reviews we would have a solid meal. Ambiance was very inviting and cozy with all the greenery and candles. Arrived with a semi chilled bottle of Veuve,definitely needed to be put on ice and I told our server that. Instead he said it was fine, and popped it and poured the bubbles. I was already annoyed, and it took him a solid ten minutes to grab a bucket of ice for the remainder. We had inquired about a kids menu and were told they didn't have a tangible menu but a verbal one. It was either chicken, steak or salmon on top a bed of buttered pasta. We figured since the regular chicken entree was 24$ the kids meal was probably below that. I ordered the ciopinno. For 45$ it lacked seafood. I got one scallop, a few shrimp and the rest just filler mussels and oysters. Seemed way too overpriced for what it contained. The base was delicious though but come on hook it up?! My mom ordered the short rib. It had this horrible sweet tangy sauce on it and sadly she didn't eat much. Who wants a sweet sauce? No thank you. Our waiter had a very uneasy abrupt vibe. At one point I saw him counting his tips in the corner of the restaurant in front of all the patrons which seemed pretty classless. None of us were happy with our entrees and when the bill came I was astounded that a kids meal was 34$? How on earth can a piece of chicken over pasta cost that when the regular chicken entree was cheaper by 10$? It definitely goes to show it's not worth leaving your house anymore to eat out. I also enjoyed the clam chowder, which came with so many clams and bacon before the soup was poured over the clams, making such a delicious soup. I ordered the Chilean sea bass, and my husband ordered the short ribs as our entrees. The sea bass was perfect; how do they keep the meat so tender with a perfectly grilled exterior?! Tides, a sister restaurant of the luxurious steakhouse Forbes Mill nearby, is the new kid on the block. I'm usually a skeptic of seafood spots as most establishments can't hold a finger to the likes of North Beach, a district famed for its seafood but decided to try Tides on a whim anyways. Boy, am I glad I did. The service initially was pretty slow and the menu erred on the pricier end, so I wasn't super impressed right off the bat. It wasn't until our dishes came out where my opinion made a complete 180. We shared the Seafood Louie and Crab Cake as starters. Dish after dish, boasted incredible flavor and exquisite presentation. Cmon, the Seafood Louie looked more like a flower arrangement than a standard salad. Already impressed by the starters, the entrees were yet another caliber of delicious. I wholeheartedly believe I haven't had a better seafood risotto, the risotto wasn't overbearingly rich and the scallops were supple yet delightfully charred. The squid in pappardelle while not as wide as your typical pappardelle was incredible nonetheless. It was engulfed in a subtle white wine sauce that still allowed every marine flavor to shine through. The REAL star, as if I hadn't named plenty already, was the whole red snapper. My god, if you come here and don't order this, you will be sorry. Even as we dined, nearby tables ogled this dish, a testament to how good it truly was. It's lightly battered and fried (not like your run-of-the-mill beer batter cod) and sits atop an intensely flavorful chimichurri. The cherry on top was our dessert- the sourdough bread pudding. This, again, is a MUST GET. I'm an avid caramel hater (a sacrilege to many, I know... I'm working on it), but the caramel and toffee bits complemented this heavenly, carb-loaded dessert perfectly. I found myself sopping up every last drop of caramel until the spoon practically scraped the paint off the ceramic plate. Desserts have forever been ruined for me. Thanks, Tides. Anyways, this is all to say that Tides hasn't just met but exceeded all expectations. It's been a minute since a restaurant has truly impressed me. I've had this spot bookmarked on my list to try as it's a fairly new restaurant in the Danville area. We didn't make reservations but should've since the only open seating left at 5:45 pm on a Saturday was at the bar or outside. We opted for bar seating but if you can, make a reservation for the indoor tables. Parking: no associated parking lot so street parking. It's located in an area where street parking might be difficult to find too so plan accordingly. Service: average. We were seated at the bar and the sun was shining right at our table. It would've been nice if the wait staff noticed it and lowered the blinds for a better dining experience. Also, our water was never refilled. Staff did check up on us periodically to see how the food was. It didn't take long after ordering for our food to arrive. Food: above average for taste, and presentation but below average for portion size relative to cost. It's a pricy restaurant, for 2 dishes and 1 dessert, the bill came out to be about $130 with tax and tip. We ordered the lobster tagliatelle, Chilean sea bass and the lemon chiffon cake. My husband said his lobster dish was ok. Sauce was bland. Out of the 3 plates, the portion size was probably the best for this one. The Chilean sea bass was so delicious. The outside had a good crust and the fish nearly melted in my mouth with every bite. The flavors were amazing, with the coconut milk, and the basil and the plating was beautiful. This is probably the best tasting Chilean sea bass I've ever had compared to all the ones I've had at other restaurants in the past. However, the portion size was disappointing. The piece I received for my plate was super small and it took only a few bites to finish the entire thing. I was hungry afterwards. The cost of that dish didn't justify the portion size. I noticed others posted pictures of it and the piece they got was bigger so perhaps, weight the amount of the fish before it's cooked it so there is consistency across the board. The lemon chiffon cake was amazing, the plating was so pretty like a piece of art and the flavors went well together. I would actually come back just for their dessert. Cost was reasonable for it as well. Ambiance: high class, elegant. A perfect spot to bring a date or for special celebrations. Excellent seafood restaurant in Danville for medium sized gatherings, date night, and celebrations. For appetizers, we started out with shrimp cocktail and a dozen oysters. Shrimp were massive and perfectly prepared, only issue is the cocktail sauce and mayo they provided could have had a little more kick or spice. Oysters were very good. I thought the smaller oysters had better natural flavor. The larger ones needed a bit more sauce. We usually get clam chowder but the appetizers were very filling. I got petrale sole, my friend got the sea bass, and my other friend got filet mignon. Filet was cooked perfectly and accompanied by roast potatoes. Petrale sole was terrific with a butternut squash sauce. Sea bass is one of their signature dishes, but you better like coconut milk. It is Thai-inspired which is great, but if you are not a fan of coconut, I would recommend another dish. We finished with the apple sourdough bread pudding. It's really good. Like a blend of coffee cake and French toast. Service is on point and the decor is very classy. It is a bit pricey so would likely be for special occasions for me. Worth checking out. read more

Update: The owner took the initiative to find my contact information from Yelp reservation to reach out to me and investigate the tip changing situation. She was very kind to offer a refund on the tip difference and invite us back for some food. While I decline the food invitation, I appreciated her going above and beyond to correct what I experienced. Will be happy to visit again in the future! Original: This is the first time we have a server that changed the tip amount. We gave a 18% tip but our server changed it to 20%. While we enjoyed the food and the ambiance, this sort of dishonesty is unacceptable. It's a few dollars more, so I am too lazy to pursue any action against this, but I would warn anyone trying to dine here that you might get a server who will change your tip amount. read more

With a fresh selection of shellfish and fish, you'll have no problem finding your favorite dish here. The environment is perfect for a family gathering or a date to impress. If you are trying to pick a date place...pick here! They have a pretty good happy hour. I should know, I came by myself and ordered five tapas since everything was delicious. Their seafood is very fresh and the oysters were honestly some of the best I ever had meogee. Their shrimp cocktail were huge and perfect texture, excellent seabass and perfectly flavored Caesar salad. Their beer on tap was good as well as their cocktails. I am a gin gal and their cocktail called Wild Eyes is a standout among the many many gin cocktails I've ever had over the years. I had 2 when I almost have a rule of only having 1 cocktail a meal. The Pom-Rose-Tini is highly recommended, I really enjoyed the pomegranate boba at the bottom. Main dishes were also fire! I had the scallops and risotto and I can say this is one of the best ones I have had in a very long time. Nice fat scallops with a good sear on them cooked perfectly (I hate overcooked seafood). I went to Tides on a Sunday evening with a couple of friends. One of my friends had been there before but myself and my other friend hadn't. So, we all ordered caesar salads. The dressing was yummy but I couldn't even eat all of the salad, because most of it was the core of the romaine heart. Really hard to cut. $14 for a salad I couldn't eat all of, kind of a waste. My friend and I both ordered the sea-bass dish and my other friend ordered the lobster pasta dish. The dishes were both good, but for the price of the sea-bass there should be a vegetable included with the meal. Also, I would like to add that the online menu shows the sea-bass being $32 but the menu in the restaurant shows $46, which is a BIG difference in price. Needless to say when we got the bill we were rather shocked of our cost. The atmosphere is really nice. The guy clearing plates and pouring water was great, Maddux always was on top of it. I will also say that the way the paying system works is rather confusing. Bring a bill, process all the cards at the table, then go and get the receipts from the printer and bring us each all new bill folds. Kind of a lot for such an easy process. read more

Noticed this in the former Albatross space and decided to pop in. Similar seating options with more formal tables, high-top bar seating with TVs, and outdoor (dog-friendly) area. The ambiance is dark and lush with large plants. Our service was friendly. We got the clam chowder, which was poured table side and was nicely chunky. The seared scallops (2 pc) were tender but overwhelmed with too much aioli. I was not huge on the lobster tagliatelle, as it was a bit too heavy & creamy for my preference and the noodles clumped together. For dessert, they have a pastry chef! The passion fruit tart was delightful, and the homemade coffee ice cream was solid. Nice higher-end place in the neighborhood. We celebrated my son's 15th birthday here and of course we had high expectations as always. We always get the ribeye steak and my son's favorite salmon meal. But our steak was dry and tasted old and our veggies were cold. We had an exceptional server that gave us fresh veggies and it was good. But the steak just wasn't the same. I'm glad the restaurant was not full when we were there. I also ordered a virgin piña colada and it was my very first time tasting a very sour one. The piña colada I had from there last few times were great even though they were not blended. I'm sure the bartender added a lot of lime in the piña colada which is very odd. it's supposed to be sweet, not sour. Our server tried to fix it for me but I wasn't gonna try another sour one. She probably just pour pineapple juice and added a ton of lime in that drink- IT WAS THE WORST DRINK I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. The whole food and drink experience was enough for me to never go back. Heck they didn't even have creme brule that night either which is our favorite dessert. I just feel bad for my son because it was his 15th birthday when we were there on Aug. 10th. Not sure why we even kept on coming back, the first time we went was mothers day and I got served cold clam chowder.. second time my food was cold. Food was always cold. The chowder was delicious, but we were disappointed to see it only came with 3 clams total. The calamari was absolutely amazing though, perfectly fried and the arugula salad paired perfectly with it. We also ordered bread and butter- the miso butter it came with was insane! Could eat it by itself. Our mains were the battered cod and lobster tagliatini. The cod was so fresh, and felt light despite the fry. The wedge fries were flavorful and seasoned perfectly. My boyfriend was pretty disappointed with the lobster tagliatini, it was pretty flavorless and the pasta was undercooked. Pretty presentation, but bland and not worth it.
