I truly appreciate everything Tidwell Auto Service did for me today. I had to have my car towed due to a brake issue. Whenever I pressed down on my brake, it was stiff and my brake lights would not come on, which caused my car to not start at all ( if it ain't one thing, its another.. =/). I recently moved to Plano and did not know anyone who could refer a mechanic when my check engine light came on a few days ago. I found Tidwell on the Better Business Bureau's website. I can honestly say that I've never had a more pleasant experience at any auto shop ever! Lauren at the front desk was so nice and explained everything well. So let me first say, if your looking for a fancy repair shop that has expresso machines and spacious waiting area, your at the wrong place. But over the past couple of years, I have brought my wife's van and my vehicle here for service and they have been polite and more importantly they have been timely and honest. We have run into the sad experience of being backed into a corner, won't say where, with your car taken apart and being told that additional massive work needs to be done, and that it will cost more to put it back together. (yes I have had that experience elsewhere). But no not here. This is a no frills, 'get the job done' shop. They have charged me what they said, and given me quotes that I had time to check with others. So yes, definitely give them a chance- I did and haven't been disappointed. read more

They can be expensive. The owner tried to justify a high price for replacing alternator saying that it takes 4 hours to do the job. He also tried to upsell car battery replacement along with the job which I don't think was ever required. And price for the car battery was much higher than what I have seen in other repair shops. read more

Do not use!!!! Extremely rude owner. I needed an oil change but they were closed cause it was the weekend, so I took it to another place. They told me Tidwell put the wrong oil in, so I needed a flush. Today I went into Tidwell and told the owner what had happened. He said well what do you want me to do about it. I said I wanted a refund for my last oil change. He said it was my problem and he didn't care. I could of brought it up to them when they were open and they would of done everything for free. He said the lady who does oil changes wasn't there, but I could talk to her when she was there, and that him and I could just stare at each other till then. I work during the week and can not always make it up there when they are open. I said so you don't care you could of f***ed up my car. He said no. I said so this is how you do business with someone who has had loyal service to you. He said yes for over 40 years. Then he said have a happy day and walked away. I will never take my vehicles to them ever again. Extremely rude and does not care about his customers. I think all he cares about is money in his pocket. read more

Took my car in Monday...after getting little to no communication throughout the week finally got ahold of the owner on Friday who told me they "couldnt figure out what was wrong and to just come pick it up and take it to someone who knows what they are doing". The icing on the cake was getting a car back that went in full and was near empty and 300 miles more on the odometer. Unfortunately, my wife picked the car up for me and was not aware of the fuel situation until she got home. I have not addressed Tidwell about the negligence of how my car was handled yet. By the way, I had taken two cars in previously for work and was generally pleased with the outcome. Not sure whats going on there now. read more

Took in my wife's car several times over the course of several months for overheating problems. While they replaced several parts without charging me anything other than the first initial price for repair, the car was never fixed and kept overheating. The head ended up warping beyond repair because it was running so hot for so long. We had to buy a new car because the engine was ruined. Good times. read more

I wanted some wiring done (driving lights). The lights were installed and the wiring was extended for ease of access. I called and spoke to a mechanic. I explained what I wanted done. He said that was no problem. We scheduled an appointment. When I arrived they put my truck on the lift and then decided that they were not sure how to hook them into the factory wiring. They should not have wasted my time if they were not sure they knew what to do. I have been a long time customer of Tidwell. They offer discounts to regular customers, and also specials that come out they email to you. Dependable, honest people. I would rate them a five star +, but lately it takes them awhile to take care of warranty items that were not right the first time. Took my car back 3 times after a major tuneup, due to the car stalling and dying unexpectedly after the tuneup. I will continue to use them for all my auto needs. Some places Ive been to try to sale you something else to fix a problem, and Tidwell doesn't - they fix what they service - plus they offer a yr.'s warranty - most shops just have a 90 day warranty. All the terrible reviews about this place is REALLY true! I've been here before and every time the service had been fine. But today I left without any service done because the old man (maybe owner) was so rude and had no respect the way he spoke to me. I had an appointment at 1:30 was told he didn't know how to check me out as I presented him with my groupon voucher and that I needed to wait for Meagan? He said she would be back any min? At 2:00, I asked for a confirmation how much more longer after 30 min of my time wasted and he rudely replied me, do I see Meagan anywhere outside? and that he doesn't see her anywhere so how will he know when she will be back??!?! And to wait a few more min??!?! Ridiculous!!! If he cannot help me then kindly let me know so I can leave and find an alternative. Don't leave me there waiting for I don't know who (Meagan) for who even knows how much more longer. It could be all day for all I know? I can't believe it. I left right away. My husband was out of town when the warning lights on my daughter's car came on. My husband recommended that we take the car to Tidwell Auto Service because he knew I would be more comfortable dealing with a small family owned business. We left the car, got a call the next day as to the problem, and picked the car up the day after that. This was about a year ago, and my daughter has not had any further problems with the car. My daughter remarked to me how friendly the staff was and said they tried to explain to her in detail what had been wrong with the car. My husband felt the price they charged was fair, and he felt the car had been properly repaired. I would definitely return to this business and would recommend it to others. read more

I've been there twice for an oil change, and now never again. During the first service the mechanic forgot to put the lug key back in my vehicle and I had to drive all the way back to retrieve it. The second service was a complete nightmare. Once again, an oil change and a tire rotation. I was assured this procedure would only take 20 minutes, tops. An hour later the owner comes out telling me never to come back because I advised an elderly woman who was subsisting on social security that maybe she could cut down on her $2400 estimate by sourcing the intake gaskets elsewhere and shop around for a mechanic based either on job or for less hourly commission. Apparently if you speak out of turn in his waiting room he finds it perfectly reasonable to insult you, the customer. So there I am, standing in this trashy waiting room, in a yelling match with this Grandest of Businessmen. Don't go here. He was scamming this poor old lady. It's clear to me why he was so pissed I spoke up. I called him out on his scam trying to help an old lady get her only means of conveyance fixed when she couldn't afford his price. read more

*******do not take your vehicle here********my review is consistent with all of the other ones who accurately took the time to write their horrible experience with these crooks. from the liar nicole to the owner troy tidwell who tried to call in to of his relatives to write up an eloquent email response to my demand for a full refund of my $2,000 cash. they have ruined my 2003 mercedes e320. i had my car towed to this shop on june 12,2017 because it was running hot, and i did not want to further damage it. my car sat in my garage because i did want to repair it right away so i began driving my suv instead as my primary vehicle i started my car periodically but didn't let it run because again it was running hot. i was involved in a vehicle accident in my suv and decided to go ahead and get my car repaired. i called ahead and asked them specifically if they had everything necessary to properly diagnose and repair my car. nicole assured me they did. i only decided to take my vehicle there because they had done an ok job on an oil change on my truck a year ago and seemed friendly. this was the worse experience i have ever had. they had my car for over a week before they even touched it. that was the 1st sign i should have just had my car towed somewhere else but nicole apologized and promised they would get to my car the next day. well the next day came no call from them so i called them the following day and was apologized to again she stated that the had gotten to my car and that it needed all of this work done i told her i didn't need break pads or rotors because i had then done right before the car started running hot. all i wanted them to do is tell me why my check engine light was on , why my break warning light on the dash was on and why the car was running hot and i would determine what i wanted to have done if anything she said it's a good thing we offer free diagnostic. she tried to tell me i needed a tune up, break pads and rotors, a thermostat and battery to the tune of $2,000.00 so far to get the car up and running properly. i never gave her the ok to do any work on my car she told me that they were still checking and would call me back. of course they never called me back ( i have phone records to prove it) i had to call her back. this time she tells me they're doing the tune up now i was like huh? you told me they were still diagnosing it not that they had already began completing the laundry list of items you claimed needed to be done. they had already installed a new battery and break pads oil change just a bunch of unauthorized crap to my car. 2weeks later still no car or call so i called them yet again and was told that my car was fixed and ready but that it was now idling funny and that they had put some carbon in it to fix the idling issue this was about an hour before they closed she told me that they just needed to drive the car 50 miles for the computer to reset. i didn't know that she meant that all of the warnings were still displaying on the dashboard. so i told her that if that's all that needed to be done i could do that myself they never once told me that the break warning on the dash was still on nor did they ever tell me that the check engine light was still on (oh yeah they charged me for 02 sensors.) excited that i was finally getting my car back repaired (or so i thought) i happily paid the $2,000 cash in good faith believing they has given me my vehicle back fully repair even though i did not authorized these repairs. i get in my car and it looks like christmas lights. i remained calm and thought to myself well she said drive it 50miles to reset the computer. forget 50miles i didn't get 5 blocks before my car stalled. luckily i was near a gas station. so looked at the gas hand and saw that it was nearly on e...it had a 4th tank of gas when it was towed there. i decided to just fill the tank all the way up. i paid for my gas and get back into my car and it wouldn't start i waiting a bit and tried it again it started but now the brake warning was beeping and my car wouldn't go into gear i look at the dash and realize the car was overheating....still....now i'm upset that less than 10mins agao i had paid these people two thousand dollars cash who had my car for 2 week costing me uber and lyft charges and they had not repaired my car i finally get my car home after about an hour. get this nicole knew there would be problems because she stabled a business card to the print out and told me to email her if anything happens so of course i did and advised them that i would be bring my car back to be properly repaired. the next morning i had a fever but needed to drop my car back off to them so that they could properly repair my vehicle (another huge mistake) i go in and the old fool troy tidwell was at the counter he greeted me and asked how he could help me i replied good morning sir i'd like my car properly repaired. he immediately refused read more

Please stay away from this place. I have taken my car here before and never had a problem. On thursday I took my car here and the normal girl who works behind the counter wasn't there. I should have left then. An older man helped me and he said that the problem with my car was the fuel pump and charged me almost $400 to fix it. I was told it would be ready be 930-10 on Friday. At 900 I went in to get my sons school bag out of the car and I was told my car wouldn't be ready until noon - that was fine, no big deal. After noon I still had not heard back from Tidwells so I called up there. The older man who answered the phone was very rude to me and told me that he wasn't working on my car, the other guy was and it will be ready when it is ready. I tried to ask him if it would at least be ready before the day was over and he said he wasn't sure it might be next week. At 2:00 I went up there to talk to them in person and the older man would not even come out of the garage to speak with me. Another man told me that they replaced the fuel pump and it did not fix the problem. They didn't know what was wrong with it. They still charged the amount quoted - even though they misdiagnosed the problem. I will not be going back to Tidwells and will be telling everyone I know to stay away. read more
