I was sure that I had written a review for TIE Thai Restaurant. After all, I am still amazed that we even have a Thai restaurant within 20 minutes of my house! We have been driving two or three times that far for over 30 years for Thai curry or a bowl of Tom Kha Gai and we somehow stumbled upon TIE Thai on our back doorstep in Midlothian. The unassuming little strip center that houses TIE Thai is not all that easy to see from the street on South 9th. Parking is a little tight in the lot, too. Once inside, you know you're in a Southeast Asia themed restaurant, though, and large plants and screens are used to good effect to disguise intrusive beverage machines or doorways and create a very comfortable setting. We were first there in late afternoon on a weekday and virtually one person was keeping this place together out front. Nothing ruffled her; but I mean she was BUSY. She graciously helped us with our order and then the food started coming. It was all well prepared, too. We shared a large bowl of absolutely delicious Tom Kha Gai and an order of Crispy Chicken Egg Rolls. My husband ordered the Green Curry with Chicken and the heat level was a perfect 3. I had the Pad Kee Mao. The dish needed more heat and salt for me. I had specified a 3, too; but it's always easier to add than delete heat! We were pleasantly surprised with our experience and I'm sure we'll return as our enthusiasm for good Thai food is boundless! read more

This was our first time eating here and we are never coming back. The food was HORRIBLE and not edible. WIth a name like Tie Thai, I'll be the first to admit I wasn't ready to take this place seriously. Being situated behind an Exxon gas station in the middle of nowhere (#1) wasn't helping its cause but I couldn't be happier to be wrong because the food was actually on point. The restaurant brings a modern interior with lots of seating options and a really nice open layout. They're bringing a semi-big city feel of an establishment, to an otherwise desolate area. Things are changing quickly though at the Southside Center: numerous businesses (#2) have opened up nearby and gentrification is happening as we speak. South 9th Street is clearly on the up and up. As previously noted, the Thai offerings seems pretty legit. I enjoyed their basil fried rice, spicy grilled beef salad, green curry, pad see yu, and pad thai. I think their tom yum / tom kha soup, fried tofu, and spring rolls are also solid choices and the spice levels are definitely no joke. What is laughable is their take on Vietnamese pho and yakisoba, but no one is perfect. Some other things to note: they'll charge a small fee for credit card usage, service is good for the most part, and they have a picture menu. This is a hidden GEM! We had the Thai wings which were very yummy - 2 flats and 2 drums. The Pad See Ew with chicken was fantastic! My 20-year old daughter cleared her plate. I got the Oanang Curry with Chicken and added extra coconut milk - fantastic! We will be back and no longer have to drive to Arlington for solid Thai! The store is clean and neatly decorated. Had a delicious Panang Chicken Curry lunch, the servings were big and plenty, fair enough for the price ($13.95). Hands down - one of the best Thai restaurants in the DFW area. I'm so glad we had a chance to try this place today. It's a hidden gem located in an unassuming strip mall. Food: 5/5 We tried Panang Curry with chicken and Drunken Noodles with chicken. The curry just hit the spot - creamy, savory, flavorful with enough heat to make you keep wanting more. I've had plenty of different Thai curry types from different places but never really liked them because they were too sweet. Highly recommend Panang curry here - seriously delicious beyond words. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Thai restaurant in Midlothian, and being a world traveler and food lover, I had to try it out! We were greeted and seated right away, the decor and feel inside is casual and comfy, there are small tables as well as a couple extra large tables for groups. We ordered some of our favorite Thai dishes...so we'd know how authentic the food is...we had the dtom kah soup, pat see yu, and green curry with steamed rice -all with chicken and medium spicy-as well as Thai tea. My husband went and bought a beer next door as the server told us we could bring it inside. I'm happy to say the food was really good! The pat see yu (wide rice noodles, fried with a savory sauce, chicken, and some veggies) was a highlight, and the Thai tea was so good. We're already planning our second visit to try more dishes on their menu. As a Thai person, I really loved their food. I've eaten in restaurant before, but actually just never reviewed it. I recently had a party and asked if they catered and although it's not listed on their menu, the owner was able to make it work. The food was a hit. I had people at my party who were entirely picky eaters (as in never had Thai food before, very unwilling to try it kind of picky) and even they loved it. My in laws were asking about every dish. The orange chicken had a special kick to it and although I normally don't like orange chicken, I was a huge fan of theirs. The food reminds me of home style Thai food. If I could give zero starts I would. Online ordering was fine but not possible to pay online. Waited over an hour at the counter for our online order after arriving at the time they told us to. They weren't even slammed - there were 5 open booths and 4 open tables. Then they gave our order to someone else who was waiting up front and we had to wait another 30 minutes for them to make our order over again. When we got home, we realized they gave us the wrong spring rolls and we were missing one of our entrees. They gave us chicken Thai rice instead of veggie, which ruined the meal for our vegetarian daughter. The food was so-so, not really that great, and definitely not good enough for the inconvenience and poor service. Also worth noting and maybe most importantly, the older guy who is the owner, who is incredibly rude by the way, doesn't wear his mask correctly. He wears it below his nose and had it down below his chin most of the time, and was going in and out of the kitchen the entire time we were waiting. We saw him hand orders to people waiting and bring food to tables. I confronted him about it and he began a political rant about how masks are ridiculous and he doesn't believe in coronavirus. Just know this going here people, this restaurant is not taking proper responsible precautions as they should be and regardless of how you feel about COVID, restaurants have a higher responsibility to their customers. We really needed something like this in Midlothian as the current options for Asian food aren't very good. I would say that I was surprised at how much I liked this, but the reviewer on Yelp were good and I saw several comments on The Nextdoor app that also raved about the food- and I was confident that many people couldn't be wrong. I went with Shrimp Pad Thai and had no complaints. Good amount of peanut and bean sprout and the shrimp was flavored nicely. Someone else at our table for the Orange Chicken. It was cut pretty thin and didn't looked like any orange chicken but be ever seen, but he said it was very good. My house s and got the chicken sweet basil rice (odd choice for him- he usually makes safe picks) and he finished every bite. My husband and I just got home from Tie Thai and it was soooo good! They absolutely exceeded our expectations. It's new, clean, nicely decorated, with comfy seats and tables. The service was good and attentive. It was a bit slow at some point, but not something to get upset about. We ordered Crab Cream Cheese appetizer, Tom Yum Soup, Papaya Salad, Spicy Basil and Pad Thai as entrees. All food was so delicious and authentic! So took my daughter here for a late lunch today, arriving @ 2pm. Greeted immediately and seated immediately, since there were few folks in the restaurant. "Dew" the waitress made a few suggestions, when she learned we hadn't been in previously. We had the Dumplings (she recommended) and Pineapple Fried Rice w/ Shrimp (she recommended), Cup of Wonton Soup, and the Thai Noodle Soup - ALL WERE GREAT! We really enjoyed our lunch and the service was very good - including pre-bussing the table as we finished dishes. I ordered mine as a 3 out of 4 spicy and daughter ordered hers as 1 out of 4 spicy. She thought hers was a tad spicy, but she is very sensitive. We asked as we were leaving if we could order in the future with no spice for her and they said absolutely. Very nice dinner on a very cold day, while daughter was out of college and home. Well done TIE Thai. We will be back - perhaps with the rest of the family. read more
