Very good. The place is a combination grocery+deli+kitchen, just in case anyone gets confused. This means you may need to ask one of the employees when you are ready to take your order so they can go to the kitchen and make it for you. Went a couple times and tried the chicken with mole plate, the barbacoa, a torta, and the huarache. All was delicious and the prices were decent. I found the owner to be nice and accommodating, helping me answer my questions about the food and give me suggestions, although I ordered in Spanish. read more

Had high expectations of the place since it was a hole in the wall, local, small family owned/operated and based on other recommendations. Unfortunately, value for food is missing. Price is simply too high. ($11-$13) If you happened to be in the area and craving tacos... I'd recommend the carne asada tacos. Do not get the chicken soup... it was pure slay. :( read more

After a bike ride from Montlake to Rainier Beach, I had worked up a bit of an appetite and was greeted by Tienda Mi Puebilto on the side of the road. As soon as I saw that they had tlayuda on the menu, I was sold. While I thought the best tlayuda was in Corona, NY, I think I may have found a new contender! For starters, the torta was perfectly cooked- just crispy enough without disintegrating with every bite. Then there were the huge chunks of beef on top. Seriously, this thing was absolutely delicious. Did I need to eat the whole one alone.... no. Could I have eaten more? Absolutely. For dessert, Surtidoras from Wenatchee delivers fresh made pastries every day. These all looked absolutely delicious. I went with the strawberry nino envuelto and was not disappointed. I am actually glad that this is a hike outside of the city, otherwise I would come way to often. However, it could be my new stop on the way to the airport given its proximity to the Rainier Beach stop.... read more

This place is a little secret of the Rainer Beach area. Less than 50 steps away from the Rainier Beach Light Rail station, it's a quick pickup for lunch or dinner. The parking lot is often used for the Via vans. The mole negro con pollo is my favorite item on the menu. It comes with rice, bean, and tortillas on the side. Tacos are also a great shared meal. Any combination of pork, spicy pork, beef, and chicken will feed a hungry crowd. read more

This place is right off the Rainier Beach Light Rail and whenever I step off the train in the evenings, I can smell their carne asada aroma filling the evening air. This is a lovely little market that has Mexican grocery staples (no fresh produce, but all the spices, sauces, tortilla, snacks, candies and other pantry items to make a Mexican meal). At the back of the store is the restaurant menu. I always order #5 and #6 which are the red and black mole chicken that comes with beans, rice, and warm tortilla. We tried it last night and were super excited, the cook was super sweet. But when we got home, the meat was very tough and hard to eat, my daughter ended up pulling the meat out of her burrito to make it edible, my carne asada was not good. They also charged 1.99 for using credit card although we paid over $50 for 2 burrito's and a Carne Asada. And they didn't tell us they were charging a service charge. Not going back! :(. read more

I felt kind of like an outcast here. I wasn't greeted or even looked at when I entered the store. I was waiting to order for a long time too, despite making eye contact and showing that I was ready to order. I understand cultural differences in terms of restaurant service but I just didn't feel welcomed here. The food was alright. The meat was definitely fresh and the salsas were homemade. However, I found a cricket leg in my taco. Fortunately, I know that crickets are one of the dishes served at the restaurant but I'm sure I would've been horrified if not. I looked around the store (both restaurant and store are combined into a single, somewhat small place). I feel like there are other stores that have better selection of Mexican ingredients and snacks. I said "thank you" as usual on my way out but didn't receive a reply. The cashier was handling some cash for a customer's purchase but saying "thank you", especially in the food service industry, isn't that hard. Tienda Mi Pueblito's staff is amazing. This year was my first celebrating Dia De Muertos and honoring my boyfriend's father. I never had the fortune of meeting his dad but he is a legend from the stories I hear. The first day was almost upon us and my boyfriend was bummed because he didn't have the best luck finding what he wanted for the ofrenda compared to the selection he is used to in California. I know how important this is for him. Wanting to cheer him up I walked into Tienda Mi Pueblito, the closest Mexican store nearby my house to start what I expected to be a long day of searching. I walked in and desperately asked if they had any pan de muertos left. Either the shock that a white girl is asking for something so specific or the fact I was asking for something so last minute OR the panic on my face- the woman handling the front end immediately jumped to assist me with the bread. The cook came out from the back of the store with a heaping armful of marigolds. While they didn't have calaveras the fact they had two or three things on my list was a huge relief. I wouldn't have been able to do it without Tienda Mi Pueblito's kindness and sincerity. They were genuinely interested when I told them who we were honoring (his dad managed his mariachi band for years touring the states). For the customer service alone I'm giving them 5 stars. While their selection is limited what they do accomplish, they accomplish well. Will have to come back for Tlayudas, its a favorite of mine but hard to come by. Can't believe I've overlooked this gem! read more

Forget tacos, even burritos! This place has huaraches!! Those were an item of Mexican cuisine I had already written off...they weren't 'easy' to find in Phoenix (AKA occupied Mexico). Not only the huaraches, but their torta game is on point. They also have Mexican Coca Cola with real sugar, in two sizes. ¡Muy bien! Call if you can, sometimes their kitchen is closed. read more

Small little shop near the right across from the Rainier Beach Light Rail station. It has some products for purchase: spices, coffees, vegetables, cheese, prayer candles, phone cards. They also make food: tacos, burritos, tortas, fried grasshopper (!), and the like. I ordered a carne asada burrito at 10am, perfect breakfast food. The burrito is of good size and comes stuffed with meat, cheese, rice, and beans. You get to choose between a red and green sauce. The food was prepared on the spot and quickly. The price is low. This is by far my favorite taco place in town!! The tacos are amazing, torta is great, barbacoa and tlayuda are some of my other favorites. Over the summer I was buying tacos here weekly. Don't expect to get greeted and seated upon your arrival, there's usually only 2 or 3 people working and they are running around crafting the finest lunch hour cuisine at the most reasonable prices in town. My favorite taco place. I've been coming here for years and somehow missed reviewing. For me, a place will usually win me over with meat and here the meat is very fresh and great tasting. Not surprising since it's a mini grocery that also sells meats. They will also season the meats on request. The family that runs this is also really great people so give the place a try. Oh! I've walked past this store / restaurant as it's right across from the Rainier Beach light rail station. Passed by today and decided to stop in. Had the steak tortas and they were very good at a reasonable price, just $6! I recommend this place for good authentic Mexican food but beware thAt the adults there might not speak English. My son had been excited to try a Torta from here since he saw it had opened. However when he walked in with his brother he was told that he couldn't enter unless they took his picture, and only one person could enter at a time. This was just after a group of young latino boys left the store. Maybe it was because he is black? I don't know, but selective treatment of the youth in our community is NOT COOL. read more
