Had a pretty positive experience here. We did visit during covid-19 so to start off with what is most important... Our server wore gloves to deliver food and when bussing tables. I actively watched her get hand sanitizer several times during the course of our visit. The restaurant itself seemed to be generally clean. There was a plexiglass barrier put up on the host stand and hand sanitizer was made available for guests. The restaurant was pretty dead when we stopped in, but they did a good job of spacing us out. We were easily 6-8 feet away from other patrons on all sides. I ordered the passionfruit bubble tea + mango. It was pretty sweet, i think i would order it without white syrup next time, but the flavor was delicious. My finance ordered their Miso soup. I have never once in my life liked Miso soup. It tastes and smells like feet to me. Theirs was SO GOOD! It was rich and full-bodied and balanced. For our entrees we both ordered bowls with white rice -- my fiancé got Korean bbq chicken, i got the lemongrass chicken. They each came with a sauce, I tried K town (spicier than I thought it would be but good) and my fiancé got the Yum Yum (a bit soupier than i prefer my Yum Yum). All of the flavors were good, no denying that. What wasn't there was bang for your buck. I know there are other things on their menu so I can't speak to those, but when comparing their bowl to say, BiBibop, the value just isn't there. ~$10 vs bibi's $8 with more toppings, larger quantities, faster preparation. The one big thing that disappointed us on our bowl was the iceberg lettuce. Perhaps if they had used cabbage or kale it would have amped it up a little. Just didn't work for me. They also have a happy hour menu with food and alcohol options. Whenever I travel to a new city, I always try their ramen because it has many different variations. I decided to grab a bowl here right before my flight home since it was close to my hotel/work and so I could meet my ramen quota. The service was subpar considering it wasn't super busy. The place has an ok interior, but doesn't scream anything special. Now for the ramen, I had the Tiger Signature and it was good, but the chicken was slightly overcooked and chewy. So there's hipster that makes up for the pretentiousness by having good food, ambiance, gimmick or what have you. Then there's the hipster for hipster's sake and unfortunately, I found Tiger + Lily more to be the latter than the former. I came on a random weekday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all. I was seated quickly and the staff was very kind and attentive. Ambiance and service-wise, I don't have anything bad to say about my experience. The food is what got me to give a rather average rating. I ordered the Tiger Signature Ramen, Dan Dan Mazeman Turkey, and a small Lemongrass Chicken Bowl. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach, but that's a usual state of being for me. Nothing was really stand out, especially for the price. Considering this is Columbus, I didn't expect basically LA prices for some of the food. You can actually get better ramen for cheaper in LA. I think the best way to describe the food was just average to be honest. Nothing stood out and it all just tasted alright. The lemongrass chicken bowl had relatively dry chicken and the rice wasn't even properly cooked. Flavors felt very dulled. I think the best out of the dishes was their Tantan noodles just as it had a bit more of a flavor punch. Again, maybe my expectations and standards are too high but personally I think there are better options in the Columbus area. Another good place in downtown. I like the casual Asian theme here. Tiger and Lily isn't authentic but it's as good as Americanized Asian can be. Casual atmosphere while it still looks nice. Prices are decent and good service. Both Chinese and Thai are here. It has a surprisingly large menu. The menu has several sections like bowls, noodles, and soups. Also there's cocktails. I had the one special cocktail called the Pineapple Fizz. This was about $7 at the happy hour price. Food here can be spicy, so if you like hot shit they have it. They have the spicy items marked. A good one is the Szechuan Mala Tofu, which is one of the bowls. It's about $10 for tofu, or you can get the same thing with turkey. This comes with noodles and vegetables. It also has a few desserts. These include waffles with ice cream and fruit. It overall is a good place for Asian American food. The inside is pretty small so it's not good for large groups. During my recent visit I decided to get some items I haven't tried before. I got the kimchi fries and the kalbi steak bowl and some of the fried dumplings. The bowl was pretty good! The beef was tender and I enjoyed the sauce it was marinated in. It seemed like the portions were even smaller than usual though. Also I really do enjoy the lemongrass chicken bowl better, there's just something about it! The kimchi fries were so disappointing. I got them as takeout and ate them within 10 minutes but they were soggy and the kimchi just didn't really go with the flavors. Considering this appetizer is $10 I was expecting it to be much better. I would never get this again and felt kind of ripped off. The fried dumplings were pretty good, nothing to really write home about but not disappointing. I'm usually not a fan of asian fusion, but the stars must've been aligned and I left this spot feeling satisfied. While we didn't do a full dinner meal here, both my wife and I thought the food was unique & interesting and overall a good value for the price. We tried both the Pop Fries ~ Waffle fries, Korean BBQ Angus steak, kimchi, green onion, Sriracha, Japanese aoli, Parmesean cheese and the Numbing beef noodles ~ a twist on a classic taiwanese bowl of beef noodles with szechuan spices, chili peppers, green onions, cucumbers, and sesame seeds. Honestly I love both the items we order. Both were interesting and different, I mean where else are you going to find waffle fries topped with KBBQ and kimchi... I think the Numbing beef noods really worked and definitely had me craving some mustard greens to go with it. Anyways, I'd definitely recommend this spot to check out. They also have happy hour specials during early evening on weekdays, a full bar and bubble tea / boba. I've come to Tiger + Lily several times with the hope that I ordered the wrong thing the previous time, but sadly I've been disappointed time and time again. The food itself is mediocre. I would say that the broth of the signature ramen is good. However, it's overloaded with toppings and worse, the noodles were excessively soft, completely lacking the bite I want from a good bowl of ramen. The curry ramen is actually terrible. The "broth" tastes like diluted Japanese curry so the flavor is really lacking, with a strange texture. I added fried chicken to it and it was dry. Noodles were mushy, even worse than the signature ramen's noodles. My friend and I also tried the HK egg waffle, but it was nothing like it. The batter was just a regular American waffle batter, and the inside was dry. Being from Hong Kong, this completely misses the mark for me. To make it even worse, the prices are higher than you would expect for Columbus. I personally believe every item I ordered is not worth the price they are charging, especially given the lack of quality. Some redeeming factors are the restaurant decor itself and service, both of which were good. I walked here from work so I didn't have to park, but parking could be an issue if you're driving. Likewise the cauliflower is thick on breading that seems manufactured, with a dipping sauce that is colorful, but not particularly, um, good? The grilled chicken bowl starts with chicken that must have hung out on the mean streets of Alabama: Tough and stringy. The thick heavy sauce that accompanies it is built to mask, not enhance, the chicken's flavor. The outdoor seating, during Covid, was nice, but it's narrow. One six top and a bunch of twos. I'd like to go 3.5 if we were allowed to do so. There is a lot to like here. There is a learning curve if new to Asian fusion. We started with an appetizer crepe which was out of this world. Absolutely recommend it. We had the Tiger Lilly ramen bowl which I'm sure is called something completely different. It gets strong reviews. Please remember to ask for the chili oil on the side so you can control the heat. Next was a non noodle meal. It came with a panko like breading with a side of curry. It was good. I will try more next time. Note to all those ordering. The experience is at the restaurant. Please come back if you can. I was embarrassed for a couple of customers who ordered for carry out yet ate in the dinning room. Suck it up buttercup, pay the taxes and support the servers. It is so rude to do what you did. Tiger and Lily is located in Downtown Columbus. The place is small and quaint. Love their menu, so many options for vegetarians as well as vegans. I tried the Mala Ramen with chicken Katsu added. I also got some karaage chicken on the side. They also have good bowls that you can choose from incase ramen isn't your game. I ended with their delicious crepe cakes. Hey, restaurant people! Get an effing clue. Yes, restauranting is hard work, but it is NOT difficult. It really isn't. To be successful, you only need three basics: decent food, decent service, and fair prices. If you can move the needle from "decent" toward "good" or even "great" on food, service, or both, even better. Sure, a great location helps, but there are plenty of places with locations that are shit (not "the shit"; just "shit") that do just fine, because they have the other three points nailed. What started me on this rant was a visit to one more place where they don't quite have the triumvirate figured out. I went in early for a happy hour and, though the food was good and the prices reasonable, my server barely interacted with me at all. And it wasn't busy yet, which I would have understood. Took my order, got my drink, then basically disappeared. Another employee seemed to have a phone glued to his ear while the cooks wandered around the open kitchen as if looking for something to do when I KNEW full well my order had been sent in and they could/should have been working on it. The item I ordered, called a Bing, was a tasty crepe folded with egg, sesame seed, scallion, cilantro, soy and chili paste. It was nicely sized and I could have ordered a second round, but I wasn't willing to continue to be ignored. I paid my check and left, popping in to another establishment along the street that had a better understanding of restauranting's three-legged stool. Lots of Asian folk in the place, so I presume it appeals to their taste. Maybe being left alone does, too, but this is Ohio and I'm not Asian. So use your social intelligence and figure it out!
