Stopped by during Obon and it was absolutely packed, so keep that in mind if you visit during a festival. I picked up a Too Good To Go bag, which was actually my first time getting boba through the app. It was a fun way to try it and reduce food waste. The biggest issue here is that the shop feels understaffed. There were only two people working while a huge line kept growing. They were moving as fast as they could, but it meant a lot of customers were left waiting or unintentionally ignored while the staff tried to keep up. I didn't get the impression that anyone was trying to be rude. It honestly just felt like they were overwhelmed. The dining area is pretty small with limited seating, and because it was so busy, the shop wasn't the cleanest. There were spills that sat for a while because the employees simply didn't have time to stop and clean between making drinks and helping customers. I really think this comes down to staffing more than anything. The owner needs to schedule more people during busy times. The employees seemed overworked, and I felt bad for them. I really enjoyed the tea I chose which was a mango sago inspired drink but unfortunately they didn't have any sago to add at the moment so I opted out into adding regular boba. Even without the sago the drink tasted amazing and just like I remember the dessert to taste -- it was really refreshing and good quality. The staff was kind and worked efficiently -- barely any wait time to get your drink ticket called after ordering. I ordered the Peach Green Tea and it was very strong in regard to bitterness and the jitteriness that I got from the caffeine. I even ordered it 100% sweet! There was a very slight after taste of peach but not much. They were out of the Crystal boba that I wanted but there were little jellies at the bottom that added a good contrast in texture and helped a little with the bitterness. 3/5 Overall, this place seemed cooler than it actually was. Honest to goodness, I didn't even know about this location at all until my rare visit to DTLA found me in Little Tokyo. I spent the afternoon aimlessly wandering around and found myself in Japanese Village Plaza where it felt like a compressed space with so many people walking around, waiting around in lines that seem to last an eternity. However, Tiger Sugar's line wasn't too long, and there weren't too many people inside either. I also remembered seeing a boba shop with Tiger in its name numerous times in my activity feed, so it felt like I had to pay a visit while I had the chance. As far as location goes, it's on the corner of a building on 2nd Street directly across from Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. The way Tiger Sugar is placed in Japanese Village Plaza, it can get a draw from foot traffic in two different directions, so I can definitely see it getting super busy at any time during the week. There are a couple of TV monitors above the front counter, one showing the menu, and the other showing five popular new drinks. I was able to snap photos of both from just outside the front door so I could study the menu before placing my order. Plenty of good choices, but since I hadn't been before, I asked about a couple drinks that piqued my interest: Black Sugar Boba Milk with Cream and Black Sugar Coffee Latte. The cashier (Jennifer R?) mentioned that the latte would have at least a shot of espresso, and given that it was later in the day, I didn't think espresso in my drink would have been a good idea. I was sold on the Black Sugar Boba Milk with Cream, which is not caffeinated, so I went with that. Jennifer did ask if I wanted the Medium or the Large, pointing towards the example cups on the counter to help me decide. The Large is 80 cents more, but I felt was worth the upcharge to upgrade to Large after seeing those example cups. I asked about toppings, but Jennifer said it already comes with boba, so luckily, I didn't have to pay the 75 cent upcharge for toppings. Considering we were in DTLA where a lot of places charge quite exorbitantly, I felt $5.95 for a Large drink with boba was reasonable in this part of town. After I placed my order, her bobarista co-worker called out my three-digit number in a minute! I honestly don't recall if any other boba shop has ever gotten my drink ready so fast, but I suppose if there's a constant flow of customers coming in and going out, I should not be surprised to see the bobaristas on their A game during my visit. But with how quickly I got my drink, I do get leery of the overall quality. I liked the drink, but I definitely didn't love it as I felt it wasn't as bold in flavor compared to a similar drink, but with brown sugar. The bobarista who prepared my drink did tell me to shake it, but didn't say how many times. There was a sign on the front counter that said to shake the drink 15 times. I don't think I shook it that many times, but I don't think a few more would have made my drink that much better. That sign also mentioned they were willing to remake the drink if you didn't like it. I mean, if I threw half of it in the trash, something I'm not willing to do for even the sweetest of drinks, I wouldn't mind asking if I could get a remake, but considering there were a half dozen customers that followed me into the boba shop to place an order, I really didn't think it was worth it to have them remake a drink that I liked, but didn't love. In other words, I thought it was good enough for me, especially since it quenched my thirst after a long day in DTLA. The cup I got was an interesting one. It was a pink cup that depicted a collaboration with Hello Kitty. I don't know how long this collaboration would last, so if you're a Hello Kitty fan, stop by while you have the chance! The cup also mentions the drink is best consumed within one hour. Also, the boba in my drink was a little too firm for me to call QQ. Jennifer was pretty good at answering my two questions. I'm certain if I had more, she'd continue to answer with dignity and patience, but I really don't want to be that customer holding up the line by asking questions for 5 minutes lol. They have a small seating area inside the small shop, plus some merch on the left wall that you can see upon entering the shop. In a more suburban area, I can see Tiger Sugar being a nice place to chill and catch up with friends, but I wouldn't do it here with the hustle and bustle of visitors in Little Tokyo. Tiger Sugar has two other locations in California: one in LA as well albeit Koreatown, and the other in Rowland Heights. I don't have a reason to visit either (yet), so I'm glad I got to try Tiger Sugar, which has way more locations in other states. Overall, I liked my drink and the service well enough to recommend Tiger Sugar, though I doubt I'll be back since I rarely visit DTLA. If they open a location in the LBC, closer to where I live, I'd definitely be down to giving them another try though! read more

After having a couple rounds of dreadful milk tea at different boba shops, I was so excited to return here and enjoy a delicious Black Sugar Boba. Perfectly made with a generous amount of boba. Definitely a sweeter drink but still one of my favorites. A great first stop to have a sipping drink while exploring Little Tokyo. Not a fan of Tiger Sugar, and have never understood the hype. This place has always had milk tea that is unfortunately completely lacking in sweetness, even at 100% sweetness. Everything I've tried has tasted diluted and is usually quite thin. Boba quality is just fine. I think there are better places for milk tea overall in the area. read more

The quality and taste here are noticeably different from the other location. They had another store in Koreatown, but it recently closed. I can tell the drinks here are much lighter--almost like water. This is my seventh visit since the Koreatown location closed, and honestly, I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not sure how they train their employees, but this is why I used to go all the way to Koreatown, even though it was far from my house. I always order the D1 Black Sugar Boba Milo Chocolate Malts and like to try different drinks as well. But here, it just tastes overly milky, and I can barely taste the Milo (and yes, I shake it well before drinking). The same goes for the strawberry crème mousse--it tastes more like plain milk. If I wanted something like that, I could just drink milk at home instead of spending money here. I usually order "less ice" and "regular sugar," but before, I would get "regular ice" and 75% sweetness. I can only imagine how watery it would be if I stuck to my usual order. The first few times I came here, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking the staff might be new or the lighter taste was due to my order adjustments. But this is the seventh time, and the drinks are still disappointing. I should try the drink right at the store and ask the staff to remake them for me. read more

The mango sago was decent, but I felt that the cream overpowered the mango taste. However, it came with a lot of toppings which definitely helped balance the drink. it also wasn't too sweet, which is something that I was worried about. The black sugar boba milk was extremely milky. I could barely taste the brown sugar in the drink even though there was a lot of syrup in there. This was very disappointing to me because the black sugar boba milk is supposed to be their signature drink. Overall, I'm not sure if I would come back to this location.
