Before our short vacation to Aquidneck Island, I checked out the reviews for various restaurants in both Portsmouth and Middletown. Valley Inn caught my attention both for the high ratings and the fact that a small stuffed quahog (aka stuffie) was included with entrees. We found the restaurant situated in the cellar of an older house a bit creepy though we quickly settled in. Each of use chose swordfish as entree served over mashed potatoes and crispy asparagus. Also included were 2 dinner rolls, a high quality salad and aforementioned stuffie. The pieces of swordfish were almost enough to serve two and perfectly prepared.

Really great food! Service was fantastic and loved the ambiance. Here is an updated menu the one on yelp is outdated

    Stuffed quahog

We have driven by this place 100 times and finally tried it. I have to be honest, the haunted stories intrigued us so we had to try it. We had an inviting seat by the wood burning fireplace which was so welcoming and cozy. My husband had the Lobster Ravioli and I had the Pork Chop. Both meals come with a stuffed quahog and choice of soup or salad, we both had the French onion soup which was delicious. We both enjoyed our meals, they were cooked and seasoned very well, the pork chop was huge so I took home leftovers. Our server was very attentive and quick. There was live entertainment and he was very good! The only disappointment was that we didn't get to see any haunted happenings, lol.

Filet Mignon with a cognac cream sauce, asparagus and mashed potatoes

Hands down one of the best steaks I've had in years!! The filet mignon melted in my mouth and was cooked a perfect medium rare. HIGHLY recommend this place if you love steak like I do! The asparagus and mashed potatoes with it were delicious as well!! I'd give more than 5 stars if I could....it was that good!

The Lobster Stuffed Steak was amazing. The picture doesn't do it justice!

Phenomenal. My family and I ate here for dinner and will gladly go back. To start, the service was awesome. Prompt, friendly, professional, and personable. The owner was making his rounds as well and it added a very nice and personal touch. The food was absolutely killer; the kitchen staff crushed it. To start, the stuffed quahog was amazing and the main courses were the perfect follow up. In particular, I had the lobster stuffed steak and it was perfect! The steak was cooked perfectly and the butter from the lobster added an exceptional level of flavor. I highly recommend going; mid week if you can. Going at opening on a Tuesday night meant it was a bit slower pace inside and we enjoyed that. We booked through Facebook Messenger and, despite them being closed at the time, they still responded quickly and booked us. We will be going back. It's that good!

We have eaten there at least 30 times and always find great entrée flavors, textures, spices and presentations with everything cooked exactly as you request. Their drinks and apps are also top-notch and lately, I have needed gluten-free options and they not only have me covered, their staff is well-informed about what that all means. Favorite apps, N.E. Clam Chowder, Poppy's stuffed quahog and their Maryland crab cake, though the Patriot nachos have ended up on our table more than a few times as well. Entrée faves, Salmon, Sakonnet River Bake, scallops and their Narragansett beer battered fish and chips has no equal. Their lobster roll is usually one of the best in the area and while their menu changes so specific burger names do as well, I have never had anything but a great burger there. Their mixed drinks are also always outstanding and they have a great selection of beer. They have attentive service, the place is spotless and the atmosphere, very comfortable and lively. Their only shortcoming for me is they do not yet have gluten-free buns, so the lobster roll, burgers and some sandwiches are now out for me, unless I eat them as a lettuce wrap. Fieldstones is our favorite local restaurant for lunch or dinner.

I ordered the creamy tuscan chicken pasta, which was more like a soup on a plate. The sauce was not particularly creamy (like I said, more like soup) and there just was not much happening aside from the sauce and pasta. There were a few pieces of chicken which was good, but the dish overall was just kind of small and subpar. The garlic bread was more like cheesy bread and wasn't great either. The chocolate lava cake was delicious, though!! It was rich and sweet and perfectly cooked. Only problem with dessert is that their online menu only shows two options and their in person menu has no prices. The chocolate lava cake was $10 in case anyone is wondering. The place is cute and service was good-- will try again with a different dish.

I do not want to blame the staff because they work very hard and seem like they care. It was not that busy on a Friday night and service was slow. I feel the owners need to take this place seriously and invest time managing the restaurant or hire the professionals that can. I have been twice once last year and once this year. The drink menu was not very extensive. Our Asian salad cups appetizer tasted exactly like an Asian salad mix I've bought at the grocery store and looked like it too - I'm convinced that's exactly how they prepared this. My veggie burger had burnt edges and wasn't too enjoyable flavor-wise. It didn't help my overall impression that when I got takeout here another time, they totally butchered my boyfriend's name when we ordered over the phone, and we had a hard time picking up our order because of this (how you get "Stephanie" from "Anthony," I just really don't know). I think this place just gets lucky having a good location across from Independence Park and being close to but just out of the way from downtown. Can't say I was impressed by the food - there are too many other good options in Bristol, I just can't say I'd recommend this to others. Perhaps it's improved since I visited, but it's a pass for me based on experiences I've had.
