Good food, interesting service. From what we can tell this is more of a late night bar than it is a standard restaurant. We came by for lunch, since the location is ideally situated next to Fanieul Hall and was near our hotel. Food was very good, we enjoyed some creatively prepared bowls, salads and burgers. Their beverage options are more alcohol related than soft drinks - they don't have iced tea, and there soda machine was flat (no carbonation). The service was the oddest part, with the order taking about 10 minutes before a server took the order, and the plates never being cleared from the table. It ended up being a much longer meal than it needed to be. The place was empty other than one other table of customers, so clearly we just did not understand what the dynamic of the business is all about. If you're going for late night drinks, it may be a more interesting experience. read more

Tiki rock RUINED my life. I have come here a few times before in the past and had great experiences, but haven't been in about 3 years. My friend and I decided to come last night before our girls night out on the town. We split a pain killer pineapple bowl and a coconut shrimp app, and then I ordered 3 tacos- one of them being fish. We left after the meal and went to the bar down the street. Approximately 45 minutes later, I began feeling nauseated. We didn't get any other drinks because we were both feeling a little off, so stuck to waters at the bar. About 10 minutes after the nausea set in, I had to SPRINT out of the bar and down the street. I threw up all over an alleyway THREE TIMES IN A ROW!!!! I thought that was the end of it, but unfortunately it was just the beginning. Our server was un-attentive. Still tipped her $20 cash on a $63 dollar bill and was asked to leave because I was there for 2+ hours waiting for the server to come to my table and take drink and food orders. Food was mediocre, and my drink tasted like cough syrup. Highly disappointed. Not to mention we were charged $34 for one of the cocktails with the shark cup. When we tried to take the shark cup with us we were accused of stealing when in fact we handed the cup right to the bartender without any issues. Went for my birthday, with a party of 8. The place was pretty empty it was Super Bowl Sunday. One bonus that we didn't know is that there were $1 oysters! They were small and SO So fresh. My friend and I came on a Friday night for drinks and a snack. When we arrived, it was super packed - we had to wait for 10 minutes to grab seats at the bar. The vibe at Tiki Rock was so happy and vibrant, albeit a bit tacky, but that's what makes it fun! We ordered the strawberry mai tai in a pineapple and the shrimp platter to share. I'm a baby when it comes to tolerating the bitterness of alcohol. I thought the mai tai was a bit too bitter for my liking and wished there was more strawberry purée (or whatever strawberry flavoring they use), but my friend thought it was already very sweet. So, I guess it really depends on your preference. I liked the fried shrimps with the BBQ and ketchup! I wish it came with more than 7 pieces - it seems kind of low for the price you're paying. The French fries were kind of bland, but at least they were crispy. The pineapple coleslaw was pretty gross. However, I thought service was a bit odd. I notice our waitress serving and attending to people who came in after us and a couple of people were fully served, ate, and left before our food came out. That was weird to me. The food was also just OK. I ordered shrimp scampi which I think is a pretty standard pasta dish, but their version wasn't that good. Took my daughter and her friends to Tiki Rock for my daughters 16th birthday. The atmosphere was amazing, the staff were friendly and the food was delicious! They brought my daughter a piece of Tiramisu with a candle to sing Happy Birthday which was a great touch. The manager Raphael came over and we talked for a while, great guy! When it's freezing outside (for months on end...), sometimes all you want is a tiki drink and tropical munchies to take you far, far away from Boston. Tiki Rock comes close to getting you there. With its blue-ish hue, long bar, and throwback 90's music, the atmosphere is casual and fun. Don't expect an authentic Polynesian experience or inexpensive bill, and you'll be just fine. The menu of tiki drinks is definitely a highlight, although I was disappointed that when my ScRumpdidliRumptious arrived, it wasn't in the tiki cup that was pictured. It still tasted great! BF got the Calamity Jane which was pretty much the same drink but without alcohol. Both pink drinks came adorned with flowers, which was a nice, tropical touch. We were going to order a variety of apps and then realized that the Pu Pu Platter ($45) pretty much covers everything we wanted. Plus it comes with FIRE. We nomed on veggie dumplings, coconut shrimp, crab rangoons, mango chicken skewers & beef skewers (which sizzled satisfyingly when you placed them over the flame). This ended up being too much food for the 2 of us, so I would recommend sharing the platter between 3-4 people. At the end of the meal, the check comes in a little treasure chest, which is cute, until you open it and realize how much you have to pay. Service was consistent and friendly! Drinks review only. Came here last night for after-work drinks with a friend. I'd never been before, but found out about it after I visited Oisa Ramen (next door) a few times. The place was pretty empty when I walked in at 5:45 (on a Thursday), but got to about 1/3 full by the time I left at 8. The vibe and decorations were really cool. Obviously tiki/polynesian inspired with dim lighting - not too dark or too bright. There were different seating options including tables, the bar, and a set of couches with a lounge-type vibe. Both my friend and I were impressed. I definitely want to bring other people here to hang out in the lounge area. Our bartender (Pete?) was super friendly and checked on us often. He even let us try different juices and assured us that they make them fresh in-house. We tried the jicama (sweet and delicious) and the cantaloupe and cucumber (more my friend's vibe). For drinks, I started with the Eastern Boston Sour at the bartender's recommendation (Bourbon, Orange, Lemon, Jicama, Angostura). It was yummy! My friend got the Saturn (Gin, Passion Fruit, Lemon, Orgeat, Falernum) and was a fan of that as well (as was I). Next, I got the Castaway (Rum, Whisky, Apple Cider Syrup, Bitters) and my friend got the Suit and Tie (Singani, Gin, Cantaloupe-Cucumber, Lime, Orgeat). She thought the Suit and Tie was too sweet and only had about half. I liked my Castaway, but not as much as the Eastern Boston Sour. I came here with a couple friends on a Wednesday night for drinks and I can see this place being really popular on the weekends. It is located right downtown (FiDi area) and there was a good amount of street parking available. I ordered the Mystery Girl, which is a surprise drink made special by the bar tender. It was a great drink and I think if I came back I would order this every time. There were a good selection of signature cocktails and some of them come in fun Instagram-able glasses. I also ordered the Korean wings with buffalo sauce (so really just buffalo wings). I got 5 wings for $15, which is very expensive. The wings tasted great though! I would only get food if it is happy hour or late night cause the regular hour prices don't match up. The manager wrote a reply that I'm sure you can all see.  1.) Sushi is hard during COVID-19 but when taken in the extra precautions can be done properly. I have ordered sushi during COVID-19. Nobody knows the ins and out of COVID-19 and that's fine. I was stating I was just disappointed the sushi wasn't offered at the time we went.  2.) The menu is available online -- I did browse it. But some places have separate sushi menus. Which is not unreasonable to have a separate menu for other cuisine.  3.) Premium spirits or not they were not strong and lacked flavor. And I overheard when I was sitting down one two occasions from different tables, they asked the waiters for less ice in their drinks. I shared a pineapple drink that said it was for two people and got about 2 sips out of it before it was all water from being iced down.  4.) That's fine if you can't blacken the salmon then say that be up front and honest. Don't try to do something you are incapable of doing.  5.) Lolitas is great. I have been there plenty of times and always had nice service and food and drinks were amazing, I recommend you try it. It's not a strange suggestion when you tell people to go somewhere where they will get more for their money. I'm sorry you don't see that and hope you take this review as a learning opportunity. read more

We opted to get two appetizers and then sushi for dinner. The "Squash Dumplings" had a good flavor but I think that the soft interior let them down even if they were plated well. We both chose the "I trust the chef" entree which was a nice combination with a crabmeat hand roll, several different nigiri sushi and a big rose of tuna sashimi. Well plated and delicious. Bleugh! I am a tiki fan and dare I say it, aficionado. This was the worst Mai Tai of my life. Undrinkable. I'm not sure if their orgeat had gone rotten or what. Besides the bad drink, what could be a great tiki vibe is quickly ruined by throbbing bad EDM remixes of even worse pop songs. I walked in at 5pm, with a grand total of two people in the bar and it still took more 10 minutes to get a drink.
