This little deli is a fav. Partner and I have visited many times over the years. We have had many sandwiches and donuts. All were good but our very favorite is the fried chicken meal. We get the four piece ($15). It come with fries and a salad. We split it. Chicken has an amazing crispy crust and is cooked all the way through. Fries are nice and skinny! Salad is always fresh. After missing dinner because of an overnight snowfall, I was feeling ravenous the next morning and the search was on for a breakfast restaurant. Many of the restaurants advertised open hours on Yelp, some even had "OPEN " neon signs in their front windows- NONE were actually open !! He was rude to the people in front of me, not believing them when they said they paid for 3 ice creams and only got two, as well as the people behind me, yelling at them to shut the door when they were getting drinks out of the cooler behind the door. We ate here two out of two breakfasts in Ouray. There wasn't much in the way of open restaurants for breakfast and Timberline had the most selection of the few. They bake fresh doughnuts and you could smell the delicious aroma down the block! We got French Toast with bacon and hash browns and a breakfast sausage sandwich. They had two different cooks and I liked better how my sandwich was cooked on Saturday morning than the same I ate on Sunday, but the ingredients were fresh, the food flavorful and the abundance of patio as well as dine-in space was perfect to abide social distancing guidelines. Our Motel room came with a free breakfast. Rather than feed us themselves, they gave us a voucher for free breakfast at Timberline Deli. For my first breakfast I ordered the Pancake, Egg and Bacon breakfast. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. The Pancake was a bit dense and heavy, the scrambled eggs over cooked. BUT, for my second breakfast I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich with ham, egg and cheese on a bagel - YUM! They don't have a full coffee bar with mochas etc but their sweet treats look tempting, I may have to try one next time. As far as service goes, they were quick to take our order, quick to fulfill our order and really friendly. This is an unpretentious quick and easy spot to grab breakfast. The man at the register was rude to the people ahead of us who asked for a sandwich and said the kitchen was slammed (at 10 AM - it wasn't). He was also rude to the people behind us - "we are closed!" Other people tried to come in and were met with "We are closed. We might open later." Zero Stars. Vegetarians/Vegans not welcome. The waiter made that very clear as he stood over and harassed me for ordering the breakfast bowl with only eggs and cheese, no meat. His exact quotes were, "Darlin, why wouldn't you get meat? You HAVE to have meat? Why would you order this with no meat?" First of all, do not call a female patron, "darlin". At this point in 2020, you should at the very least know that. Second, in service industry 101, never comment on a customer's choice of food unless asked for your opinion. When he didn't leave, I answered with a personal comment hoping that would be something he couldn't argue with and that he would just walk away. With food in my mouth, I responded, "I like animals." Then he continued standing over and berating me, "oh here we go. You're one of THOSE people. You know animals are going to die anyway???!!!" He finally walked away shaking his head. I instantly regretted the tip we had already left in the jar upon ordering. With that treatment, I didn't want to be there anymore. I took my food back to the kitchen, told the workers there "I've lost my appetite due to harassment" and we left. I messaged the Deli personally on Facebook (I could not find a website) but never received a response so I'm writing this in hopes no one else has this poor service experience. I have lived in Colorado full time for 13 years and worked in the service industry many years. A basic tenet is that the customer is always right - whatever they order is personal to them and wait-staff should never comment on that choice unless asked for an opinion. The salad was so sloppy and sad. The lettuce and tomatoes were barely cut. I had a half of a large tomato and several lettuce leaves that were just not cut at all. The plastic knife and fork they provided wouldn't do the job. So frustrating. It wouldn't have been so bad if they would've spent a couple minutes actually preparing it rather than just throwing it all in a box. The gyro was definitely made with crappy frozen lamb because each piece of meat was like a dry piece of jerky. AND I bit down on a BONE! So, so gross. My son's grilled cheese was pathetic and cold. The fries were dry, cold and lacked even a dusting of salt. Come on guys. You have such a beautiful spot and such a great opportunity to feed people well. We were in the mood for a good sandwich and so decided to give this place a try. I had the Reuben which was served on swirled Rye bread with Russian dressing. It was absolutely fabulous and I know a good Reuben when I eat one because I eat them almost everywhere! They also have very good fries. I cannot remember which sandwich my boyfriend got but he enjoyed it as well. They were a little bit slow - I think we wait about 20 - 25 minutes for our food - so they might need to pick up the pace a little. But I have to say it was worth the wait. I can't speak for their food because they wouldn't sell more than 6 items to me. I had a party of eight that I wanted to take some donuts and croissants to. I asked for 4 apple fritters and 4 croissants and they said no. Asked if one of the persons in our party could buy 4 items and the other person buy 4 and they said no.
