I had a free breakfast here from my hotel but was nervous after reading the reviews. I ended up sitting with some people who come to Ouray every summer and they gave me some scoop on the place. I had some friendly conversation with the owners through them as well. Here's some tips as far as I can see: - Go early because they run out of breakfast food. I got there around 10 and after I ordered they locked the door and closed. I got the last breakfast! Even then they were out of many things like donuts, pastries, etc. - They seem to close daily between 10ish and 11:30 or so to switch to lunch. This isn't posted or announced but it happens. - This is the wild wild west. The owners do their own thing and march to the beat of their own drum. Don't ask for a special order or substitutions. Don't expect to be accomodated to your every whim. I got a basic breakfast and it wasn't remarkable or bad just basic. The patio is lovely though! I find the enigma around this place interesting and charming so I'll likely be back next time I'm in Ouray. read more

We get a breakfast from our hotel at this restaurant. I read the reviews from Google first and was a bit nervous to go in because of the comments about the owner being rude and mean. Maybe everyone is too sensitive or don't get his sense of humor or maybe court ordered anger management classes ( joke) he couldn't have been nicer and he was sassy... in a good way. The employees are super duper nice, the dining area is very nice, clean and some cool old maps that the owner is very proud of and has the history on them. It is a hard rating to do because the food is good ... but the guy who takes the order can flip on a dime from being nice to extremely rude. Who needs that served up with a $45 bill for two for lunch, plus an additional tip? We should have read the reviews about the staff rudeness before we tried the place ... I don't like paying someone to be rude to us. The expensive pastries are good, but one time the serving size is adequate, the next time it is very small - not worth the exorbitant price. read more

Wow incredible food. We ordered two different burgers, the Ruben, the lamb, and the avocado turkey and we are super impressed. Service was prompt and just outstanding quality of the food. The free breakfast provided at our motel was actually vouchers to come here! A bit of a walk, but weather was great and you can't beat the scenery. Four tasty options were available with the voucher, but we couldn't help ourselves and bought more on top of that - who can resist homemade donuts?? They did not disappoint. French toast, pancakes, eggs, sausage, and the breakfast sandwich were all winners with my family. Great atmosphere for small kids, too. One star down because pancakes were just a little tough and donut dough could've used a pinch of salt (I know, I'm picky). We would happily return anytime! read more

My family and I needed a good breakfast after a long night of camping in Ridgeway State Park and we came across Timberline Deli. It was outrageously expensive. Fifteen dollars for a plate of french toast with a side of hash browns and meat of ones choice. We jumped to the conclusion that it's quality must match the price. We were wrong. My family is vegetarian and so we chose to skip the side of meat and were surprised to find that we couldn't replace the meat with a bowl of fruit or even double hash browns. Once the food finally arrived it looked like something you could have made as a five year old without adult supervision. The french toast was soggy and the strawberries on top were similar to those we were fed for our public school lunch. The hash browns were crunchy and honestly tasted as if you had eaten green bean casserole without the cream of mushroom and the green beans. Do not go here. I was ready to order and politely asked if one of the staff members handling food behind the counter would put his mask on (it was hanging around his neck). The owner (who was taking our order) replied "no." I calmly asked why, and his response was "Because I own this place." I hesitated to reply because I was not expecting his response, and he proceeded to raise his voice and chase us out of the store while yelling violently, "GET OUT. GET OUT OF MY STORE!" Needless to say we left. Please do not bring this deli business. The whole experience was disturbing and eery. We came in for lunch, and left feeling scared. Good hashbrowns (shredded), great biscuits (buttery soft, not too crumbly), out of this world melt-in-your-mouth straight-out-of-the-oven cinnamon rolls (went back for another!) Hey, in all honesty we had to make a restroom stop and just got lucky with this little gem. Aside from the clean bathrooms (important!) they have sweet people tending the counter, tried the Rueben which was pretty YUM. And the chili, tasty. We had vouchers from our hotel for breakfast, on the voucher it said 7-9:30 we arrived at 0900 to a line of about 20 people at 9:20 they closed the doors and rudely said they were done for the day. When we asked about our voucher they said that on the voucher it stated the time we pointed out the time was until 9:30 and that it was 9:21 he has no comment closed and locked the door. I can't comment on the food because we stood in line for 25 minutes only to have a rude employee come out and say they were not taking anymore customers after the people right in front of us. I get that they might have a limit to how many people they can serve each morning but surely they could plan better and let people know before they have stood in line for almost half an hour. I was shocked at the rudeness. The employee literally closed the door as the woman behind me was trying to ask if there was anywhere else in town to go for breakfast. Its also worth noting that the employee who slammed the door in our faces was not wearing a mask despite the mask mandate. Arrived early for a 4x4 tour and wanted to grab something before we headed out. Obviously with the COVID pandemic, understood waiting in line. The patron in front of us asked for a latte and was told it wasn't working and could have regular coffee. She declined. On our turn we asked for four donuts and a croissant. They were out croissants, bananas, and biscuits. It was close to our time to leave for the tour and the breakfast sandwich would cut it close. The older man told my wife "you should have gotten up earlier dear". Fine if they are out of stuff, we understand, a note on the door would have helped. Delicious. Came here at 7 AM for breakfast with my family and it had something for everyone. They have fresh donuts everyday that look delicious. We also got an order of the chocolate crepes. An order of crepes comes with three so you can mix and match flavors. Highly recommended for a fairly quick and great breakfast. read more

The servers were awesome, but owner was rude. My daughter and I went there for breakfast and to use their WIFI as she is in vertical school. They opened late (but no biggy) and we stood in line for 15 minutes resulting her to be late for school. In addition, the owner would not give us WIFI password until our order was placed and paid for successfully. He made a comment that my daughter should have been IN school then. Yup, it's not possible right now, nor our choice. I had ordered a large decaf tea and he said he didn't know which ones were decaf and to just pick one out. He then just put one tea bag in my drink with his bare hands. It was too big of a drink for one tea bag. It tasted like hot water. After all that, WIFI didn't even work and we sat and waited for 25 min for our breakfast to come out only for us to eat two bites to head to Mojo's coffee for their WIFI, the owners there were more then happy to host us. read more

Yum, yum and did I say yum? I am not a sandwich person. But in my line of work, sometimes you need portable food, and a sandwich is usually a good bet. So sometimes, we go put an order in at the Timberline Deli, pick it up a little while later and then have our lunch on the go in the mountains. My favorite sandwich I've had was the ham and scallion cream cheese, served on a bagel. It was fresh and delicious, and the cream cheese was awesome. The Chicken Salad sandwich is also very good. No fruit or nuts in the chicken salad (which makes me very happy), just lots of chickeny goodness. And these sandwiches are big! The service can be a little slow when there are a lot of people in the Deli. No problem, they can have your order waiting for you a little later if you don't need it right away. Ate breakfast here twice and lunch once. Their menu doesn't list everything that is available. Very good breakfast burrito in a homemade tortilla with homemade salsa. Great. Wonderful waffle with strawberry compote. Great blueberry pancakes. They'll make you an omelet to order though not on the menu. Need to cut up the stuff in the omelet more and maybe not put so much. However, the omelet was very good. Nice selection of bread choices as well. Lunch turkey bacon avocado sandwich was delicious! Didn't try the fried chicken. These folks have the potential to make this deli a hot-spot. They need to better advertise their breakfast, expand their menu, and be sure everyone is aware of what they offer. read more

Parking is a bit of a nightmare in Ouray. Restaurant is small but clean. Only one restroom. We had the paper from sliced cheese in one of our sandwiches and hair in the salad. The avocado was fresh, and the bacon was delicious, but the food was just fair. For 6 of us, it was almost $100, which seems overpriced for what we got. read more

I stopped in for breakfast, after seeing the "homeade donuts" (btw, not sure if they meant to say "homemade" and was misspelled?) regardless, the additional smell of bacon lured me in. They do in fact have home made donuts.,they looked tasty, but also heavy. I opted for the breakfast- two eggs easy over, hash browns, toast and bacon. I asked for eggs over easy and "crispy" bacon, adding to just about burn it. No floppy, chewy bacon for me. Eggs arrived perfectly cooked, although one egg had broken and the yolk was dripping out (a travesty), and the bacon was floppy (a miss in my book). Hash browns were just ok (hot sauce improved them). With coffee, it totaled 11.00. You order at counter and they bring it out to you, but basically you eat in a sitting area- no wait service. Lots of other places in town to try for breakfast. Can't speak to their lunches. read more

Wow!!! The homemade glazed donut was AMAZING! The homemade cinnamon roll AMAZING! If I was rating this restaurant for food only it would get 5 stars for those homemade breakfast items. Unfortunately I give it a 4 because of customer service. I asked if they had smaller cups so I could split milk for my two young children and the man said "what we've got is what you get." My son has a corn allergy and as you know, corn products are in pretty much all pre-made goodies. We were really excited when we saw the sign that said "homemade doughnuts". You should have seen the smile on his face as we got out of the car to go buy one. Anyhow, we wanted to check to make sure there were no corn so we asked the man running the register if he could ask in the back. His response was was flat out and annoyed "No, I won't do that". We are from Denver, Colorado taking a southwestern Colorado tour and stopped in the main attractions: Mesa Verde, Telluride, and Ouray on our way back. We entered Ouray at 7:30 am expecting more breakfast options, but decided this was the best option because it had indoor seating, but the food was way overpriced for what it was, the hash browns were half over cooked and half undercooked, and the french toast was dry and very chewy. Don't even bother. Sporadic hours, and rude owner. I can't review the food, because we never got a chance to eat there. They were not open when we went by at lunchtime on Friday, and the door was locked at 10:00 AM on Saturday, although there were people inside. This morning, I called about 9:10, and a lady answered. "Oh, you're open this morning," I said, pleasantly. "No, we're closed right now because we ran out of seats. Thank you. (Click.)" Apparently you're not allowed to wait for a table? Quite confused, I asked when they closed. "We usually close at 10:00,but we're closing a little early today." IT WAS 9:25 AM ON SUNDAY!!! She pointed to the unlit open sign, said "Enjoy your day." Service deserves 5 stars Food deserves a 4.3 This is our second time in Ouray and we found Timberline just by driving through town. We took advantage of the nice day and outdoor seating. The atmosphere was awesome. The staff was very nice and was helpful. It's a "pay at the counter then wait for your food and they bring it to you" type of place. When the guy at the counter found out that it was our one year anniversary, he gave us a free dessert. My wife and I shared the box canyon burger and the avocado delight sandwich. Both were really good. The sandwich had a little too much cheese for my taste, but that was minor. The fries that came with the burger were fantastic. After we sat down and began to eat, the owner kept checking in with us to make sure we were happy with our meal. It was great service. We will definitely come back when we are in town. read more

Biscuit was flat and the diameter of ping pong ball. A rubber ball would have had more flavor. Donuts were very large but super dense and tasteless. Don't waste your money here. First experience was the gentleman at the counter: seemed annoyed he had to interact with customers. He answered, with disgust, that the mac and cheese was homemade when asked if it happened to be Kraft (my daughter is incredibly picky and it's not uncommon for restaurants to serve "the blue box"). Then, when I called her in to pick another option he was obviously annoyed he had to wait on us. He then has the audacity to tell me, "if you don't give her an option.. she will eat it." While I really love getting unsolicited parenting advice from a complete male stranger at the price of roughly $9 (even more if I was getting a drink for her), I think I will pass. Then, I order gluten free bread for my sandwich, as he writes it down, he tells me it's extra (a note not included on the menu), when I decline the cost he gets exasperated he has to change the order. Second experience: my turkey sandwich came without.. you guessed it: the turkey. When I went up to the counter to question it, the lady was confused and clueless. Took her a few minutes to realize what my issue was. When I get my sandwich back with the turkey I realized the sprouts that should have been included were also missing initially. Third experience: a "server" at the restaurant comes to the outside dining area and is calling, "order for ____" "last call, order for ____" when a gentleman says, "oh, that's me!" The server then, with annoyance says, "I've been calling your name, like a thousand times." I was seated outside with the gentleman waiting for food and can attest that his name was not once called outside (where we both seated). The food was passable.
