My husband and I were vacationing in the Miami area at a hotel across the street and heard that this place was an excellent choice for dinner. The funny thing is, I swear a lot of great restaurants in Florida are in strip malls, don't be scared! They are really good even though they are in a strip mall:) We aren't used to that being from Chicago. The service was excellent and so was the food. We started with the warm mozzarella, tomato, and eggplant and it was really good. Wish it came with more crostinis! But I always wish that:) We also had the arancini, which was super good. I have had this before at other places and it can be dry, but it was awesome from here. My husband had the lamb chops, which looked great, he said he really enjoyed them and the entree was a good size. I am not a lamb fan so I didn't try them. I had the black and white pizza per every ones recommendations here. It was good, but kinda reminded me of cheesy bread, haha. I liked it, but would probably get a different one next time. The truffles were awesome, but I wanted more 'stuff' on there. We had the beets on the side and they were great too. For dessert we had the warm butter souffle. It was realllly good. I didn't exactly know how to eat it, it came kind of deconstructed, but we managed and yum! It was sooo good! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area, two thumbs up! Based on the service we had, I had to give it a 3. It was a cool night in town, we don't get those that often so we decided to seat outside. Worst mistake ever made. The gentleman who brought our napkins and utensils said the server will be right with you. That was not the case. My hunny and I were having an interesting conversation that we lost track of time and then noticed that close to 20 min have passed and we had no server! Not even water. No one acknowledged us at all. My boyfriend got up to look for the host and he wasn't there, so that's more waiting time. He finally came back to the front and apologized, took our order and finally! We got some food. Different people brought our food so we had no idea who our waiter or waitress was. The food I must say it's good. I was craving pizza and my boyfriend recommended this place as he had been there before, he felt bad that I had a bad experience since he always mentions how good this place is. I may have mentioned that I hate chains. So when traveling, my family and I seek out the places that the locals go. One evening, in Sunny Isles, FL (just north of Miami Beach) we wanted Italian. It turns out there are two top flight Italian restaurants in Sunny Isles - nearly across the street from one another - Timo and the other. The other is a tad more highbrow, and since my kids can sling an occasional f-bomb, we chose Timo. Onto the review: OK, location. In a strip mall. I know, most of Florida is a strip mall. But expensive restaurants shouldn't be. Find a bank building. Build something stand-alone. But get out of the strip mall. Next, we arrived for our reservation, on time, and were informed our table wasn't ready, but could be accommodated by two high-tops nearly in the doorway just out of the bar. Hmmm. Not ideal. But I go with the flow. Minutes later a local arrived in her Maserati sport ute and was immediately seated in a spot that would have accommodated the four of us out-of-towners. Oh well. Water. Sparkling please. We just ran out. Oh, OK. Tap is fine. Wine. Nebbiolo (as I recall), please. Just sold the last bottle. Oh, OK. This Barolo is OK. Food. Fois Gras. Sorry, 86'd. You're killing me. But once we got past these issues, the evening was splendid. The food was truly wonderful. And our server made up for the total lack of management capability of her GM and owner. She was a gem. The room itself was nice, for a strip mall. Florida new-money decor with a big wood fired pizza oven as the focal point. So here's the net. Go for the food. Go early in case they run out of things. The food is pretty good and it's a nice spot for a fancy dinner or date. I don't understand why a lot of people complained about this place! Everybody who said bad things about staff or service or food are liars! I am so picky and so harmful, and so hard to please me. I love delicious food like everybody and of course good service. So when I read reviews on this restaurant, I thought that it is true, but I was hungry and decided to give them a chance. The hostess was very friendly and nice, our waiter was amazing, funny and helpful. The food was so fucking delicious!!! And I am not kidding! Amazing! I had Duck Egg Pasta and my mom had Skirt Steak. And yes it was so good! And then I ordered Tiramisu which was OMG delicious! So now about prices, absolutely normal prices, this restaurant isn't pricey at all. I came here yesterday with my boyfriend for our 2 year anniversary. The location wasn't hard to find as I used to live in Aventura so it didn't take us quite long to get there. However we did arrive during the last hour and somehow managed to make it on time. When we first arrived, we were standing for quite a bit but that was mainly because it was a full house and all of the employees were busy dealing with the hungry patrons. Once we were seated, the server greeted us kindly and immediately served us our water. We weren't particularly in the mood to drink any wine so I wouldn't be able to give a fair assessment on their wines. However I did see a lot of people around us order the wine and their beer, they seemed to enjoy it. For our appetizer, we ordered the burrata with tomatoes. It was delicious! The plate was empty by the time the waiter came back since we were starving. For our main course, we both order pasta. I had the burrata ravioli. It was so good but unfortunately I couldn't finish it so we took it home. I'm actually having them for lunch today which is great. My boyfriend ordered the pasta with the 24 hour grilled beef, I think it was, I'm not sure of the name but he really enjoyed it. The meat just slid off and was tender. He wasn't a big fan of his pasta as it had been a bit harder but he still finished it nonetheless. If you enjoy Italian cuisine, I'd recommend visiting here with family or friends. The place is located in Sunny Isles and even once you've finished with your meal, you can walk across the street to the beach. read more

Extremely disappointed. Was so excited about this place from the reviews. For starters they asked if we wanted to start with water, we said yes, and they bring us a bottle of Fiji water. We assumed this was for COVID reasons as we just said we wanted regular water. They later charged us 8$ for the bottle we never asked for (do they not serve regular water). The food was okay at best, lacking flavor. The servers were nice and service was decent however we realized no one was wearing masks. Looked back at the brick oven where our pizza was being made to see that the chefs were also not wearing masks while preparing the meals. The servers were walking around from table to table with no masks and the restaurant was at FULL capacity (like no where to walk within a foot of another person). To top it off, they gave themselves a 20% tip on the bill (we were 2). The bartender and servers were nice but it could not make up for the rest of the evening. The food was overpriced, lacked flavor (our order came and had no spices) and it was definitely not a safe COVID environment. We went here early 6pm and were greeted by Bryan whom also ended up being our waiter. We had a 5 and 7 year old in tow and although there was no formal kids menu, they made special small plates for them. The service was excellent. The wine by the glass selection could be better. I wish they had a few more red sauce entree options. I had the pappardelle with ragu. It was very good. My wife had the prosciutto and burratta mozzarella small plate and said it was amazing. The bread was good and fresh but not great. Our kids were getting tired so we left without dessert. The bill was a bit higher than you might expect but it was a nice experience. They hid our guests until the guest of honor arrived, truly surprised him, and then we had an excellent dinner, with outstanding service. Yo! Miami! What is with the mandatory 18 to 20 percent tip which far too many area restaurants now add to my bill without any input from the client? To remind you owners, the tip is the means by which the guest rewards the level of service and is discretionary. It is not a way for us clients to pay your staff labor costs involuntarily. The latest offender was Timo. This is a nice little spot. The appetizers were innovative, thoughtful and tasty. The main plates were equally impressive and generous, accompanied by a mid range wine list with decent selection and prices. My service was ok - but not stellar. For example I poured water and wine most of the night and the table was not cleared in a timely way between courses. So I get the bill and I see a mandatory 20% service charge on everything - including the nice 2005 nebiolo I ordered which was worth the value of all of my food. If left to my own choice I would have tipped 10 percent on the food only. Why should the tip be mandatory and why should it include the wine- especially at 18 or 20 points? As such, I will not return and have henceforth resolved that when I enter a Miami restaurant I will inquire as to their tipping policy. If they include the tip without leaving it to my discretion, I eat elsewhere. I don't get forced to add a tip at any 3 star Michelin restaurant in Europe and - respectfully- Miami has nothing worth 3 stars. P read more

Worst experience in the history of going to Timo. As locals, we've been dining at this restaurant for decades. It has gone noticeably downhill over the last few years and this time it will be our last experience. For starters, the bread service was completely unsanitary with the server giving us our bread with her hands. She literally grabbed the bread and breadsticks with her hand from her basket and put it in our basket. That was the grossest thing we have ever encountered at any restaurant. For that alone will never go back! but it didn't and there!When we received our food it was undercooked and the portions were for children between the ages of five and eight. I came here due to good reviews and recommendations of a Facebook group but very disappointed in the food. Perhaps other dishes were better but I ordered the braised rib agnolotti and it was very lackluster, especially for the price. It tasted like it was short rib with no flavor in a dry dumpling/ravioli and minimal sauce. Very little flavor and very dry. The combination was not tasty. All pasta options except one had meat in it. Other menu items did not seem Italian at all. Service was great, despite it being a holiday. Sorry to say I won't be back to try other dishes. read more

Let me start with the negatives here (which by the way don't affect my rating since it's always about food & service) to get that out of the way. On my first visit there was no hand soap in the main sink, the garbage unit was broken so you had to manually lift it and the parking situation is limited. Ice tea was not very impressive for this type of restaurant and the bread basket didn't want to make me do the wave. Now all of that aside, Timo should satisfy you with their menu. I went for Miami Spice and was surprised to see that they offer a Vegetable Spice which in my case was a 4 course vegetarian all the way through option. Friendly bearded server brought everything out just made, and asked how I liked everything. I really did enjoy the tasting menu. it consisted of beet tartare, cauliflower risotto, eggplant meatballs (trust me they are great) and a samoa cookies and coconut ice cream creation that is a treat for anyone that loves coconut. Quality ingredients and friendly staff will make your dining experience a stand out. Make sure you make a reservation during the weekend as it should fill up rather quickly. read more

It was very clear that the kitchen staff put tremendous effort into every detail including an often overlooked detail of serving every dish hot --- clearly nothing sits under a lamp in a service window! We can highly recommend openers of Crisp Oyster salad and Foie Gras crustini. The main courses of Lobster Risotto, Zuppa di Pesce, and Short rib Lasagna were perfection. Our waiter was professional, personable, and very attentive. Knowing little of Italian wines, he made a great bottle recommendation that was delicious and very reasonably priced. The place was empty. Only 1 table in use. 20-30 tables open. They asked how many and I said 1. I asked to sit at a table. The manager wasn't interested in having me. Timo is one of those Italian restaurants where I'll never forget my first experience there. Being Italian, my father and I are very picky with our Italian food. Fortunately for us the Authentic Cuisine of TImo's had plenty to offer in our experience. Our server, Jonathan, was very helpful with our decisions with many great suggestions for their enticing menu. In tradition of my ways of a Chef, we dined in courses. Foie Gras on a crostini w/ Caramelized oranges - Incredible dish. Quality Foie from Hudson Valley that blended beautifully with the perfectly seared piece of foie. White hominy soup w/ Pig's trotters - A dish that might throw one off with the pig's feet, but it only adds a unique flavor that had me going for more. Baked Butternut Squash tortellini w/ fontina & Walnut Cream - It tastes as good as it sounds. The squash puree was seasoned properly, and the tortellini was al dente with a rich but balanced flavor. White & Black Pizza - Ricotta, Provolone, Mozzarella, White Truffle Oil, and Black Truffle shavings. What more could an Italian ask for? Needless to say this was our favorite item. Brown Butter Gnocchi w/ Caramelized Butternut Squash, & Almonds - Another beautiful dish. A great seasonal combination of classic Italian. Creamy Risotto w/ Wild Mushrooms & Black Truffles - Yes. Perfectly cooked Risotto with a strong truffle flavor that forced me to steal the bowl and polish it off completely. Not too creamy, and not too rich. Macadamia Ice Cream w/ Caramelized Pineapple, Brulee'd Bananas - This dessert as a whole was very well thought out. When all items were pooled together it gave one of the most pleasant dessert combinations I've ever enjoyed. Something I'd go back for time and time again. Overall I'd say TImo's is a great place to take a date, take your family, or go for a nice tasting meal with your friends.
