This place is not bad and there is a pretty large menu. I almost gave it four stars because they list a few items as being vegetarian and vegan friendly. Still they should have more offerings that are suitable for vegetarians and also those with food sensitivities. Being on campus and in a community like Ann Arbor they could pick up business that way too. I feel that is also important because the food is kind of pricey. I do love the salsas and do love having this option on campus with at least a few good choices for lunch. I think that the taste is great with good flavor (although a bit salty). It is a plus that the portions are large and filling. The waitstaff is generally pretty friendly too. read more

I loved Tios before they had alcohol and their awesome new digs. They are still delicious, but now they provide a great space for groups of all sizes. The food is great, however, the service is appalling. After waiting 2 hours for a table that they said would take only 60 minutes, they continued to seat customers who had entered after us, before us (no, they do not take reservations). We were told several times "you're next, you're next" but were never actually seated. We were finally seated once we spoke to the manager, however, we were shoved in uncomfortable place for a party of 6. In conclusion, if you have the time and patience to deal with this type of management, you may have a decent meal. read more

Just witnessed one of your delivery guys almost hit an old lady crossing the street, she had the right away at the time then he kept trying to go, hit his breaks, did that a few times then peeled off almost hitting two others. Food is okay and the fact that they deliver is really great (they did long before the days of grubhub etc) but I'm not sure how hard it is to read the options/requests section of the order when making the food. The last 2 times I have ordered from them I have requested to not have any onions, yet they have come with a ton of them of course. If i was in the restaurant I'd send it back but that is not a great option for delivery/ to-go pick up orders. So be careful when special ordering anything from them. read more

Went there 2 fridays ago and to start the night and had jerk chicken taco and it was amazing but i would have preferred having the pita bread grilled. But the most amazing thing was the caribbean hot sauce! It starts a lil citrusy but at the end it gives you a little kick. My sister and brother in law shared the 6 taco special and most of them were really! Nothing beats chilling at the bar and enjoying their wide variety of tequilas and hot sauces. Jeremy is a tequila connoisseur - and an all around badass. So is his dad. My boyfriend and I went here for my birthday because it's my favorite. I've never had a bad dish here (will admit-the queso is my favorite!!). We got three different kinds of tacos (papa taco is the best) and they were very accommodating. I don't eat meat and they were very willing to help with that. I also recommend the Chilaquiles Rojo with egg. The waitress we had was great and was attentive without hovering. The margs are always good-sometimes they are a little too sweet for my taste but not always. Can't wait to go back! read more

A lot of other reviews mention the great margaritas at this place, but I would say that determining good Mexican food should not involve alcohol. Margaritas are always a plus, but good food is determined to be good food without being tipsy or drunk. There is a reason that the sides are not included with the dish when you order and that's because they are not good. The owners must realize people would not want that stuff on their plates. Really...that "Spanish Rice" was the nastiest tasting food I have ever had. Being from the south, I was just expecting something decent and not great... instead my bill was $28 for some of the worst food ever. I will say that the queso dip was tasty, but the store bought chips were a huge downside. I had heard so many great things about this place and was extremely disappointed when I went there for myself. Too bad though, was really hoping for a good mexican food experience while in Michigan. I guess I will just have to wait until I move back to the South. The waitress was semi-friendly, she seemed extremely confused about the menu and how to approach customers. The kitchen staff could be heard and seen while they were preparing the food, even heard someone clearing their throat very graphically -- which is the last thing that you want to hear while waiting for your food. I went to Tios for my first time about two weeks ago. We started our night at the comedy club and walked over to Tios for a nice dinner with my mom, dad and boyfriend. We expected a wait because it was Friday night so we put our name in with the hostess and waited at the bar. About 3 drinks and an hour later i politely ask the hostess when we will have a table because a bunch of people who came in way after us were seated. She responded with " Are you even on the wait list?" I almost lost it, but we calmly waited our turn AGAIN and finally got a table. The food was great so I will give them that but seriously, HIRE SOME NEW HOSTS who can figure out a simple seating chart. read more

I liked this place! My boyfriend and I had margaritas, an appetizer, he got tacos and I had a burrito (sorry I can't remember exactly which). Everything was great but not outstanding. Seriously, I only went to this place because I saw it on Man v. Food. Man v. Food will not steer you in the wrong direction... I love a good taco, and I was impressed by three types of tacos when I came here for lunch: fish, papa (potato), and portobello. The fish taco was very good - one of the best I have had since moving back to MI. The potato taco had chunks of potato, which caught me off guard because most potato tacos I have eaten had the potatoes mashed. The taco was still good. The portobello taco was an unexpected delight. I enjoyed it. Now, this place may not have the most typical tacos, but it has corn tortillas, which makes it way better than most places in MI. I would describe the tacos as elevated LA street tacos. The flavors were evident and amazing. The food was worth the higher price, and I would happily eat here, again. read more

After reading and seeing tv ads and reviews on tios me and my girlfriend went there ,,, and i have to say this was one of the worse experiences i had at a "so called authentic" restaurant.. the waiter was so late on even introducing himself to us,, the water they gave us was warm it melted the ice in the glass in 2 sec's, we ordered after asking the waiter how big was the plate of fajita .. he showed us a bigger size then it was ,,,the chicken was store bought chicken the green pepper and onion was not cooked long (tasted raw) and the plate was cold and the sour cream didn't look or taste like sour cream ,, also i ordered chill queso fries ,, that came cold as well for the total price of what we bought me and my girlfriend felt this place was so sub- par there is a place in Ann arbor if u want really good authentic Mexican it's called Las Fuentes for 14 dollars u get real chicken and fajita about 4 times the size of what tios tried and failed to make ,,. i don't think i will ever go back to a place like tios i really wanted to give it a shot my take on all this avoid tios it's the best desion u can make read more

Have a broken ankle and on crutches and called ahead for reservations before an Ann Arbor Symphony concert and despite what is on the website here, I was told they do not take reservations. But they said to come on and there should be seating available. I had my son drop us off at the curb while he parked the car and when we got inside we were told there would be an hour wait. We were disappointed because it was our son's birthday. So be sure you have a back-up plan and a way around town once you park. Not going back to Tio's anytime soon. Major disappointment. read more

Food is priced for downtown Ann Arbor, $10-20 for entrees, not crazy for that market. The only bad thing is that this place is basically churning out taco-bell quality tex-mex and trying to pass it off for authentic Mexican. (Based on the number of good reviews, it seems like that might be some people's style...? ) We were there last night and had the Arepas, which did not look or taste anything like arepas. It looked like american pancakes and it tasted like they had used the JIF cornmeal pancake mix and thrown in some veggies. Salsa and service were pretty good though - I will give them that. Last time I went a drunk was yelling at the bartender and he handled the situation with grace and understanding and didn't let the drunk guy distract him from his job. I highly recommend this place. We arrived at tios for a friends birthday last evening , never have been to this establishment before, was very excited to try the food! First off noticed the drinks were pricey , we had ordered a pitcher on sangria, the pitcher was stuffed halfway with fruit , disappointed for $28 bucks you would of expected to get a slight buzz, never happened and it was way to sweet , tasted like pure sugar! Food was tasteless , I ordered beef nachos , way to much beans barely any meat, was very very dry... You should serve queso on your nachos , and my husbands food all Tasted the same. Sad to say we won't ever be back again, who doesn't give out free chips and salsa!? And 7 bucks for queso? just saying, save your money!!! Terrible, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Everything was just bad. The food was lacking in flavor and the beef was gross. You're better off attempting any of these dishes at home. Restaurant.com always has gift certificates, so you should never pay full price, in which case what you get for what you is extremely reasonable. We got an appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts for around $13 pp, including tax and tip (and it would have been cheaper if I had known how ubiquitous coupon codes are for restaurant.com). The food was great, portions are very generous. There was no way I was going to finish my entree after that huge appetizer (and I wanted to save room for dessert), so I brought home probably 1/3 to 1/2 of my entree. Also, you have to try the key lime pie thingy. It's basically key lime pie filling in a fried crust that's so flaky and amazing. read more

The Food Challenge: We came in at 6:30PM with 15 people, sat at the bar, and asked to do the food challenge. The menu limits the challenge, however, to times outside of 6-8PM. So the bartender and manager refused to let us officially compete. Apparently starting and stopping a 45minute timer takes too much time for them during those hours. To the manager: Restaurant management 101--why wouldn't you accommodate a party of 15 who ends up spending over $300 at your restaurant? Now we won't be back, and we will tell other people not to go. Just a bad business decision on top of really poor customer service. Food: Besides the food challenge nacho plate, the portions are too small--the "world famous" wet burrito didn't even come with beans or rice; the quesadillas had little to no chicken and come with lettuce on the side ... Overall: Spend your hard earned money at a different establishment where they value their customers and serve better food. read more

Not a dependable delivery, after we placed an order it took them 45 minutes for them to call us and say they couldn't deliver it because they would be closing soon. They've really gone downhill in the past few years. I ordered a chicken chimi and when I received it, it was all beans. At first I thought the waiter made a mistake, but no, there were a few shreds of chicken in it. I complained and he brought me a new one, but it was the same. The menu says, "12 inch flour tortilla stuffed with beans, your choice of beef, chicken or pork, onions, cheese, then deep fried and served with sour cream on the side." That sounds nice, except there was about 6 inches (not 12), there was no meat, no onions, and no cheese. Just a disgusting slurry of refriend beans wrapped in a tortilla. Definitely *NOT* worth $10. I would have been much happier at Taco Bell. Seriously. If I want crummy fast food, then I'll go buy fast food and pay fast food prices. If I'm going to a sit-down restaurant with a waiter, I expect better quality, not worse. This place is a step down from Taco Bell. For the money I spent at Tio's, I could have gone to Prickley Pear and had a much better experience. My recommendation: Don't waste your money. If you want Tio's, just go to Taco Bell and at least then you'll get what you paid for. read more

Came into Tio's just for a casual night meal and drink and l happened to come a cross the best server I've had in years. His name is Brandon. He not only guided us through a menu in ways above and beyond, but made sure we were happy. He knew interacted with us in a way that made us comfortable and not overwhelmed. Honestly I wanted him to sit down and have a margarita with us. Tio's food is alright but after the great service my overall experience jumped way out of expectations and will now be getting drinks and food here regularly.
