I had a headlight out and am in the area for business so getting my car to a place to get it fixed hasn't been easy. I have no one who can drive with me to drop my car off so I"m at the mercy of waiting in the lobby, which I really hate. However I saw this place across the street from my gym, Fitness 19, and they didn't look very busy. I went over and spoke to the guy about getting the headlight replaced. He quoted me $39. I said that sounded good and told him I was going to take a walk as it was nice out and I'd be back in 30 minutes. So 30 minutes I get back to the shop and he tells me the blinker light is out too and it's a bit more, like $20 more. I said ok, please replace that as well. At this point I'm just wanting to get going and get dinner. After about another 20-25 minutes he says my car is done. I had asked him to have the guys check the tires and see how good they looked as I wanted to make sure I had no problem driving back home to Columbus. He told me my tires looked very good and they would not need anything done to them. As I was driving away I did notice they had taken off my 2008 Virginia inspection tag, something I had requested they do as it is a pain to get off without one of their tools they use to remove them. Thankfully they did remember to remove it. My total cost was $75, which I thought was a bit high but they were very upfront about everything and gave me the option before doing anything so I can't fault them for that. This place seems pretty good, although perhaps you could find a place that's a bit more affordable than here to get a headlight replaced. read more

Today I was told that an oil change would be $50.00, plus cost of an additional quart of oil (I have a 2010 Ford F-150). Once I returned, I was told that the total was $80.00. They misquoted how many quarts of oil the truck takes. $8.00 per quart of oil that is pumped out of a 55-gallon drum. Ridiculous prices and questionable knowledge of staff. Perfectly understandable why they can't get anyone to work there. This is my last visit (I have 7 vehicles in my immediate family that I maintain/help to maintain). Save yourself some dollars. Absolutely disgraceful taking advantage of people/families by price gouging...quoting you way lower and then increasing the price and adding things on when it's time to do the work. Don't waste your time with this business. They refused to schedule a state inspection with my other services and insisted that it's first come first serve by state law-- every other shop in Tidewater will squeeze a state inspection in if you come in for other services. I know this because I've worked as a service advisor. After keeping my vehicle for 4 days, they called to let me know it failed inspection for a "non-DOT approved LED headlight." The entire front end of my truck was replaced after a hit and run in 2021, and it's passed inspection no problem everywhere, INCLUDING THIS PLACE with the headlight bulbs that are in it. They wanted to charge me $74 per light to install halogen bulbs, plus the cost of the part. It takes one hand and about thirty seconds of your time to change a headlight bulb, so I'd like to know what medical school these dumb dumbs graduated from to charge as much as a lawyer for their time. If you have an older car, the inspector will do his best to tear it apart to squeeze a few extra dollars from you. Take it somewhere that isn't looking for an excuse to fail you. So thanks for the $236 bill for an oil change, tire rotation, failed inspection and some windshield wipers. I'll never return. read more

Beware! I recently took my vehicle to the Tire Choice on Cedar Road for an inspection. It took 4 days to complete the inspection. On the way home, the vehicle was making an odd noise as I drove it. It turns out the lug nuts on one of the wheels were very loose, not even hand-tight. So the noise was from a wobbling tire. Would it have come off as I was driving? Good question?? Fortunately not fall off, it was a short distance home. Looking at the receipt, I double checked the tires that were looked at for the inspection. On the second tire that was part of the inspection, the lug nuts were very tight, to the point you needed superhuman strength just to break them free. What a disappointment. With so many poor reviews, I should know better than to take my vehicle to this location for any work. If I could leave ZERO stars, I would. This place doesn't even warrant a 1-star review. Not even worth a star. Dropped my vehicle off at the cedar road location 7/15, they said it would probably be Monday if that was ok. I agreed to drop off the vehicle, and told her I left the hood latch open for them since they had issues figuring that out in the past. Monday, Tuesday no phone call. On Wednesday 7/23 I drove by, saw my vehicle parked, pulled in. Greeted by an older gentlemen. I asked about my vehicle and before I could even finish, he interupts me with, "car won't start." I was confusted because I drove the vehicle there, have never had an issue, and on top of that it had been over a week and not one single person had reached out to me. My next question was, "is there a reason why someone didn't contact me?" His response was, "I don't know, I'm here by myself, I'm not sure what you want from me." I said if I don't know there was a problem I'm not sure how we can resolve this, then I asked for the keys and went out and checked my vehicle. What I found was that my vehicle was in a different gear than I left it and had been allowed to roll all the way back in the parking spot until the tree stopped it, the light switch was left on, and the car was completely dead, couldn't even get a battery indicator light or any dash lights. I asked the gentlemen if he wanted me to jump it, and take it for a drive to charge it up and was told no. He said they would put a "box" on it and take care of it. I asked him why the car was in the bushes, up against the tree and he said, "we've never moved it." It clearly had rolled back all the way into this tree. I then left expecting to hear back regarding the vehicle. Wednesday, Thursday no phone call. On Friday morning, I called the shop and a woman told me they hadn't got to the vehicle yet. I briefly went over what had happened with the battery, asked her if she knew if they had been able to get it started, was told she didn't know, and told her I had an old battery that I could put on a charger so we could get this taken care of if they were having issues. She told me they'd look at it that afternoon. Friday Saturday, no phone call. Sunday, again I take a drive by the shop, car is still in the bushes. Shortly after 9 am on Sunday 7/27 I went back to the shop. I was greeted by the same older gentleman as before. I asked for my keys, and then asked if they were able to do the inspection. He said, "no, car won't start" I said I called on Friday, they said they would get back to me if they couldn't start it yet I received no call/text. He said, "I haven't been here in 2 days, so I don't know." Then I asked if they put the "box" on the car like he told me they would, and he said yes, the tech actually sent me a video and said it sounds like a connection issue. I said, "when, if you weren't here?" My husband and I went next door and bought a battery, and the car started right up. I went back inside and asked to see the video of them trying to start my car. He showed it to me, and the car was started incorrectly. It's a 5-speed diesel with glow plugs. The person starting the car did not wait for the indicator to start the vehicle, simply put the key in and tried to start it, the engine will not start this way. I said, well here's the original problem, whoever started this car doesn't know how to start it. The gentlemen then went on a bit of a rant about how his tech drove a land rover and knows exactly what he's doing, but the video on his phone showed 100% otherwise. It's my assumption that while they were trying to start the vehicle, they put it in neutral, and the car rolled back into the tree, where it was stopped by the tree and bushes. I can only assume that while they were trying to start it, that by accident they must've turned on either the running lights or something else in the car that drained the battery, as the dash buttons are directly behind the ignition on the left side, and when I went to check on the vehicle that Wednesday the car was in neutral with no emergency brake on, and the dash light button was in the on position. I left the e-brake on, in first gear, backed into a space, with the hood latch popped because these are all the issues we've had getting it looked at before. I realize people make mistakes, but I do not understand how no one reached out to let me know there was a problem, let my car roll into the tree/bushes, and could not take accountability for any of it. My inspection never got done, this ended up costing me $200+ dollars to get a new battery, and invaluable time. The service at this location has gotten worse and worse every year, we only come there as a last resort because it's been so bad. We will NEVER bring a vehicle here again. read more

Several years ago this was a great place. This is no longer the case. Unfortunately they have gone the way of other auto repair shops, and have become extortionists. A $20 state inspection cost me $90. Why? They decided they needed to replace the wiper blades. That's $17 per blade, plus another $15 (per blade!) to install them, and another $6 in fees. On top of all of this, when I arrived my car was still waiting for the blades to be installed! They must have recently read a copy of the Bad Business handbook. After hundreds of dollars and several years of my business, these people have lost it permanently. read more

We came here to get a nail out of our tire and for them to plug it. When we initially went in, we were asked a lot of questions about different services to which I've never needed before. I felt them being a bit pushy but just nicely rejected them. When I was called a couple hours later and was told they were finished I came to pick it up and went home to put it on myself. $25 seemed decent. I am not sure what the benefit in scheduling appoints is if you are still going to go on a first come first serve basis. It wastes the customers time and then when the don't have their vehicle all night and then all day (with no shuttle service) the customer has literally wasted nearly 24 hours of their own time for something as simple as an inspection or a tire rotation. read more

This is one of those "if I could give less than 1 star, I would" reviews. This place is crap! My husband dropped is truck off for an oil change, inspection, and to fix a tire. They called and said he needed new brake pads so he said to go ahead and put them on. After his car being there for almost two days and almost $400 later, he picked it up. He drove for not even 10 miles to finish working, stopped at our local Walgreens, to pick up something after work and the car would not start. This was not even 2 hours after getting the truck back from these a**holes. After calling them and explaining what happened, they had absolutely no concern or willing to even consider it was something they could have done. The battery was not old, nor ever given us a problem. The truck was towed back to their shop after we insisted they take a look at it. After no call for an entire day, my husband called them and they said the truck needed a new battery for another almost $300 including diagnostic charge! Didn't it just pass the inspection the prior day?! It is not a coincidence that the battery needed to be replaced hours after picking it up from this rat hole. Don't ever go here if you want to deal with an honest company. They are liars and thieves and should be ashamed to run a business the way they do. read more

Needed a state inspection. Made online appointment on 9/13 for 9/14. Was called and was told it's 1st come 1st served and that 9/14 was almost full so I should bring vehicle in immediately (on 9/13). Dropped vehicle off around 1pm on 9/13. Heard nothing on 9/13. Called around 2pm on 9/14 for update. Was told that they might get to my vehicle 9/15 but may not get it until 9/16. Was then told that I had been told this by them initially. This was not the case. Went back to store and picked up vehicle on 9/14. No inspection done. I live near this business and they have consistently let me down like this. I don't know what I was thinking taking my vehicle there. They have no respect for anyone's time and couldn't care less. I may never use tread quarters again. Most people don't want to feel taken advantage of by the auto body they have been going to for years. And this is the case here. And when you tell the people there that you have been going here for years and that you feel taken advantage of and they respond rudely it means it's time to find a new mechanic. Do NOT take your car here. They will tear it up and claim no responsibility for it. I took my car for an inspection and when I got it back, it was dented and the paint was scratched off. I will not be bringing my car into tread quarters anymore just for routine maintenance for 1 reason. In the past you were able to get discounts on oil changes by just bringing in a coupon. Usually the oil change would be around $15. Just recently though they started pushing this credit card called the Drive Card. Since then, if you wanted to take advantage of a promotion you could only get the promo if you used the Drive Card. This is something I won't do but if you don't mind signing up for the card you'll be about to get a good price on an oil change among other things. read more

After learning the Merchant's across the street could not repair my flat tire because the nail was too close to the shoulder, I called this place. I told them my problem and without even mentioning Merchant's they told me Merchant's have strict rules on repairs. They asked to look at it, so i went. It did cost $28 (including tax) as they said, and it did take an hour, but It was still the best car service I've had for some time now. They internally patched it, balanced it, set the air pressure for all 4 tires, and reported the tire treads for all 4 tires. The summary report also included a note about my rear wiper being torn. They did all of this without asking me to buy crap! Amazing. They even gave me the rusty nail. read more

Made an appointment for 1 o'clock, to have 2 rear tires mounted, nothing else. Car didnt even get on a lift until an hour later and didnt end up leaving the store until 3:15! Why make an appointment time if it still takes over 2 hours for a "tire shop" to install 2 tires. didnt even bother to clean off the wheel and I have no clue what the scuff on the tires is from, but I sure as heck ain't going back to them to find out! read more

We have used them a couple times for different vehicle maintenance things. The staff is very nice for the most part, but they are incredibly slow. I tried to walk in for an oil change and was told it would be 2 hours. I am not able to just drop my vehicle off so I have to wait. I instead, decided to make an appointment for the oil change. I showed up about 10 minutes before my appointment time and was told it would be 45 min to an hour even though I had an appt. I was already here so I waited. They didn't even get to my vehicle for 45 min after I arrived. I also went for a state inspection that took 7 hours to get to my vehicle. I will not be going back. I don't like feeling like my time is not important. read more

They also took the time to print information on what services I will need when my vehicle reaches 100,000 miles. This place has gone downhill since it was owned by Kramer Tire. Previously, I had full trust and confidence in the guys that operated this business. Not now. Today marks the third time that I have walked away not just unhappy but feeling a bit ripped off. Yes, I have read and agree with the comments about them being slow and unable to turn around State Inspections in a reasonable time. They do stay busy. I see the negative comments about Randell and I must say that he has always been nice to me, however I do see that it all depends on how busy they are. He can be a bit abrupt sometimes. Here are three examples and I will let you decide. 1. I turned in my truck for new plugs and axle work. After I got it back, I found that there were no finger or handprints on my dirty engine at all. None! To change my plugs, the top half of the engine has to be removed which is why I did not do it myself. Highly suspicious that the work had not been done, I went back and questioned them, Of course I was assured that it was. I do not have the means to find out for certain. *** FOLLOW UP**** I was able to confirm several months later that the plugs were never changed. I wish I had the ability at the time to go with my gut instincts. 2. I called to inquire about new tires for my daughters car and a State Inspection. They did not have the tires in stock that I had put on previously, but ordered "similar" ones. They failed to tell me that these new tires were substantially more expensive. I know....I should have asked. But still.... 3. They "Forgot" to do the State Inspection, even though I had articulated clearly, and marked it on the drop box envelope. When I brought it to their attention, Todd was somewhat apologetic, but not too concerned. Bringing this car back to wait again is a serious pain. What I see is an attitude that is common throughout Hampton Roads. They have become the biggest game in town, and if you don't like it, there are plenty of people who are in line behind you. Tough. Now I just went online and see that I could have saved more than 50% of the tire cost from ordering elsewhere!!! It is time for me to find somewhere else. Which is a shame. UPDATE: Almost two years exactly have passed since I had that work done, and wrote that review. Now, the rear end on my truck went out completely. I never told the shop doing the current work, but they went straight to the problem. When showing me that the gears in the differential were completely shot, the guy pointed out that it was clear that someone had tried to replace the seal inside, and it was their shoddy workmanship, with apparently using the wrong oil caused my rear end to die. It was only after that, that I told him of my Treadquarters experience. He had heard it before. Now I am out $3,500.00. So two years ago, I paid this Treadquarters over $1,000. to do nothing but set me up for a major failure later. Thanks TQ! read more

I've taken my two sons cars here, a 2005 and a 2013 Corolla Toyota's here for work and yes it can be slow to get the work done but so far we haven't had any issues. They have allowed me to walk back into the garage to let me look at one son's car to see a problem with his car. We have had new tires put on without any problems and alignments done, state inspections done in the past and oil changes. I've come to trust them more than the dealerships for our Honda's and our Toyota's. I plan to take my 2003 Honda Odyssey to get some work done before I drive up to meet some family in another part of VA. read more

I just wanted an oil change and they did a messy job and upon my return the next day the store was not even open at 7:30am because the manger was late. After waiting 20mins I had to leave. Went to tread quarters on cedar road in November 2014. Scheduled to have my oil changed. Had a problem with my acceleration and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Others told me various things. No solution. Wasn't until Ken and his team identified my problem. Of course I was skeptical at first when Ken told me. (Because others thought they had the problem pin pointed and no luck. ) Ken was very polite and informative. He gave me literature on the problem with my vehicle. Ken was a great help. Driving through Chesapeake on New Years Day and developed a noise from the right front wheel area. My daughter was becoming stressed out and hungry. We decided on Hardees because TreadQuarters was next door to look at the car. Of coarse being a holiday, i was certain that it was going to be a very long expensive nightmare to get back home. We were greeted as soon as we came through the door and while I explained what was happening to my vehicle, my daughter sat and watched some nature program that was on the tv. We wrote up the ticket fairly quickly and I was expecting the mechanics to be dragging there butts, so we went next door to eat. About half an hour went buy and I noticed that my vehicle was parked in a different location. We walked back over and Randall handed me my keys. When questioned as to the problem, they found a small rock had wedged between my backing plate and the inside of the hub. Nothing damaged or to be replaced, so I bought the shop breakfast and am giving them this 5 star review for the service and comfort they provided us. Thanks again Randall and your team. I am sure this place is normally quite reliable but the service was less than satisfactory. The service rep Brian had a major attitude problem on the phone and when entering the premises, the desk attendant (possibly Brian again) was talking to someone about non-work related topics and I was left standing there for a very long time without being greeted nor helped in any way. This place was extremely unfriendly, didn't feel welcome and so I immediately left to go to a different TQ. The service at this location is slooow to say the least, and the customer service isn't much better. Dropped my wife's car off at 7:30 am, as I had previously discussed with the gentlemen at the front desk the day prior for an 8 am appointment. The same gentlemen who I had spoken to the day before was at the front desk at 7:30. I had previously spent over $1K on tires for the car at this particular Tread Quarters (as well as a couple thousand more for the other 3 cars I own) and the tires were due for a rotation. I also needed a state inspection since I am about to deploy and did not want my wife to have to worry about it expiring while I was away. When I dropped off the keys at 7:30, I was the ONLY customer around and seeing as they had just opened, I'm quite certain I was the first customer in line for the VA state inspection since inspections are first come, first served. Fast forward to 1:00 pm and I get a phone call letting me know a bulb was burnt out, but that is all they have noticed so far since the technician is just now pulling the car into the inspection bay. Wow, dropped the car off at 7:30 and 5.5 hours later, they are just now getting to it. Oh, and what about the tire rotation that I had an 8 a.m. appointment for? Not done yet. The response by gentlemen at the front desk? "That's just how it is." So, in recognition for your horrible service after the sale and seemingly indifferent customer service attitude, I'll take my tire business for the 4 vehicles that I own elsewhere. read more

I'd give you a BIG FAT ZERO if I could!!! The big guy behind the counter is the most rude person I've ever had to do business with. My husband had his vehicle inspected on a Sunday and it needed a repair. He decided to wait and take it to TQ for the work. After he picked it up and paid over $400 for the repair, he decided to take it back to have the re-inspection done instead of going back to Firestone. There was only ONE person in that store and he said it would a three hour wait. When my husband told him that there was no one there, he said it was "against the law" to take another in front of one that was already there.....and that is a LIE! You obviously don't need our business, so we'll take it elsewhere....like next door to Great Bridge Muffler and Brake, or across the street to Merchants Tire. The issue with having to wait wasn't such a big deal....I had to wait for three hours for the repair. What this company needs to do is teach their "big guy" some manners and how to treat people! This Treadquarter used to be a Kramer Tire store that took care of six cars of mine for over 10 years. As Kramer Tires, the store had knowledgable, fair, experienced and skilled mechanics that I could trust with the care of my wife's and kid's automobiles. No more! Treadquarters has new managers that try to gouge customers for unnecessary work, and they do horrible work. They recently replaced my 2002 Suburban's Air Conditioning belt, which broke less than a week later while I was on vacation, causing almost $1000 damage to A/C compressor and tensioner. They will not acknowledge responsibility, and gave me a bogus phone number for their "Regional Manager". read more

Took my RAV4 in for four new tires and alignment. Also had them listen to the front making a noise and wanted their opinion on what I already thought it was. The kid installed the tires and did a front end alignment but couldn't align the rear because he said it is seized in place. I know its hard for these model and year of RAV4's but it can be done. He really didn't take the time or effort to try . Also he didn't listen to the noise from the front because he told me it was nothing but bushings popping. Any true mechanic can tell you that when the front makes a noise like I have every revolution that it isn't bushings. I think they are generally good at the basic tire install and tire repair, but I wouldn't use them for mechanic work. With the attitude and being so busy on the weekend resulting in not devoting the time to properly take care of a customers car; it has taken away the reputation that I once knew this business for. Cedar Road, Chesapeake VA just isn't the best anymore. But at least they were friendly. I know vehicles and especially mine. read more

I have order 4 tire for my husband BMW . i was told 2 has to be order it take 2 to 3 days so i said fine . so 2 can be install the next day . so i did take the car the next day for the 2 back tire to be install . my husband work out of town he come home only on weekend . so i remind him about the 2 front tire to make sure it was order. i was told it well be here that weekend . saturday my husband drove in icy weather just so he can't have the tire install . we got there and find out that it never been order . i was so upset cause that tire should be order the first time he order rear one . i told him i need 4 tires . this is just a very poor service i been the loyal customer for a long time . anyway after all of that i deside to make appointment for an oil change the next day at 11:am.not knowing it was going to be another bad service . i waited more than hour to find out that my car was not done yet . i was wondering what is taking so long so i look at the garage did not see my car . so i tought it was done . i wait for pepper work thinking it was done . come to fined out it never been done ! so i end up getting my key back i dont need to wait another hour . so this is it i would never ever take my car ever in this place again .this is the worst service i ever have for a long long time . so disappointed cause this place is very convenient for me .very poor servce this mechanic take care all the walk in repair tire first before he did mine . read more
