Complete bait-and-switch. I looked up tires for my son's car on the main website. Chosen tires in his size for his car were Continental PureContact LS in 225/45R17. Lists on the national website for $153.99 each. Reserved them and scheduled an appointment 3 days later. When we got there, the manager (Elijah) said he didn't stock those tires at all, would need to order them, and the price on the website was wrong and they were $100/tire MORE expensive ($400 more in total ABOVE the quoted price). Told him this was unacceptable and showed him the national website. When asked if he would honor the advertised price, he said No. I was met with a shrug and "Well, there's nothing I can do." Needless to say, I did NOT buy those tires. Will not be back for any reason. read more

You know those companies that make you feel physically ill to deal with? That's how I feel with Tire Choice. Is that dramatic? Absolutely. But dealing with this company over the last few months has been one of the most stressful situations of this year, which says a lot as someone solo parenting an infant while dad is on deployment. Over the course of the last few months, I've had numerous interactions with the locations on Monticello and also on Little Creek. While I understand they are separate locations, I've had the exact same issues multiple times with each location. Several times we called and made appointments with someone over the phone, only to show up and be told they don't have the appointment in the system. Several times I've attempted to make an online appointment only to never receive any response either confirming or denying the appointment. The time we were able to get the front tires replaced, the appointment was "made", and nothing was in the system. My dad had to wait for hours for the service to be done. This is often to be expected, but almost an hour of that was him waiting for the employee at the desk to check him out after the car was FINISHED, while the employee was in no hurry to do much of anything. Most recently I've been trying to get in to get my back tires replaced due to nails. I've had multiple go betweens with both locations, an appointment "made" only to again show up with no appointment in the system, incredibly unhelpful and at times condescending employees. The only reason I have even been dealing with them is because I called to confirm if some tires replaced a few years ago had the coverage which makes replacements discounted based on how used the Tire is. The employee told me I did. Upon calling the other location to confirm the appointment before going all the way there a second time, they told me they don't have all the same information in the system and he'd have to call to check with the other store, and then told me I didn't even have that coverage, and that they didn't have the tires I needed (why would you not confirm that before making an appointment for someone???). You can bet I'll be going just about anywhere else, and hoping my front tires, which do have the coverage, hang in there so I don't ever have to return to this awful shop. I have minimal expectations for car repair... I typically expect things are going to take a while and I don't expect PHENOMENAL customer service, but this place falls so far short of that it's all I can to to hopefully save one other person the trouble of dealing with them. read more

Brought my Jeep in for an inspection; they claimed I had some fluid leaks and needed a brake flush. A couple weeks later, my oil was still leaking and my brake fluid was darker than mud. Do not recommend, pretty sure they actually didn't do anything. read more

DO NOT GIVE THIS BUSINESS YOUR TIME OR MONEY. The absolute worst customer service and employees. I was told that my car would be ready in two hours and six hours later it was not ready. When I asked why the delay the employee at the desk acted annoyed by my question and just told me they were busy and went back to his phone call. My husband went a few months later to get new tires and once again waited all day after being told he was next in line. While waiting my husband witnessed one of the mechanics come out and scream that he was quitting demanding his paycheck. Shortly after that another mechanic comes out and has an argument with his family member waiting in the lobby. Don't know who the owner of this establishment is but someone is dropping the ball here. Also the dude working the front desk was unprofessional trying to Flirt with every female customer that came through. I went in for an oil change and I was helped by a gentleman named Tyler, he was fast, knowledgeable, and efficient. He also saw that I needed my back breaks done and he finished all of my repairs in a timely fashion. I don't recommend this place at all! Customer service is completely unprofessional, I spoke to Brian and he had an attitude the whole time when it came to asking questions.. not helpful at all. If you look like a vulnerable individual who doesn't know much about cars, they WILL try to scam you! A friend spoke to him as well. She took her car to get her tire replaced and they charged her WAY over price. Not only that, but they went into her car and took a card that was in her car console and attempted to steal money from her at an ATM but were not able to due to incorrect pin. read more

The service is obnoxious. They don't honor warranties which are clearly stated on the invoice, even with tires with 200 miles of wear. The corporate office is equally as unhelpful. They will even redirect back to the local store to address warranty issues. After multiple hours in the local store and phone calls to corporate I would go to any other tire store in the Norfolk area, Firestone is a few blocks away. Be careful when purchasing Yokohama tires from them as well. They are the only local store that keeps them in stock. My twenty year old daughter took her Volvo XC70 into Tire Choice on Monticello in Norfolk, VA. for a low tire pressure light. Tire Choice found a nail in one of the tires. The car is regularly maintained with tires purchased at Costco which offers free rotation. The "technicians" at Tire Choice then determined the vehicle, in addition to the flat tire repair, also needed a tire rotation and four wheel alignment. She declined the rotation which they did anyway and told her it was "free". Thus a $25 flat repair turned into a $169 service charge. This is an obvious and outrageous act of gouging an unsuspecting and inexperienced young woman! I would advise all to avoid this specific business and all Tire Choice establishments. read more

I live right across the street so Tread Quarters in Monticello was an obvious and convenient choice. I've been going there for basic maintenance such as oil changes. Everything went alright until this last visit. I had blown out my tire I put on the spare and brought it straight over to Tread Quarters. I have a full size spare so when I went in asking for two new tires I gave specific instructions that the spare needed to be put back in the truck and the bad tire in the truck replaced. The girl Jennifer at the front desk wrote my instructions down and I came back the next day to pick my car up. When I looked in the trunk the following day I noticed that my bad tire was in the trunk. Where did my spare go? When I went back into Tread Quarters they said they were sorry and they gave me a new "spare" tire. Although it was not anywhere close to new full sized spare (I had only driven on it about 3 times and just to the nearest service station) they threw out, it was a bald tire that even the owner said he would not drive on. Actually when I demanded to speak to the owner I was shocked that he took no responsibility for their mistake. He said he could not just give me a new tire and that his "best" technician didn't know to look in the trunk because it was not written on the repair ticket. As a customer how am I suppose to know their policies and procedures. He did not have a response to this and just said if he had taken the order it would have been right. Although that is little to no help when he won't take responsibility for when his employees aren't doing it right. He told me to take the bald tire as my spare and if I ever have to use it to not drive very far on it. He said he would keep my name and number and when a better quality used tire comes around he would call me. Well that was about 3 weeks ago and I have yet to hear from him. Needless to say I will NEVER be going back to ANY Tread Quarters locations based off the way I was treated and somehow blamed for their mistake. I will amend this review ONLY if I ever hear back from the owner. I will be writing the company's corporate and will see if that avails to any resolution. Update 7/1/13: I wrote a formal complaint letter to Tread Quarters corporate explaining the situation. I included a deadline of 7/1 for resolution before contacting a customer advocacy group like BBB. Low and behold guess who I heard from at 5:30pm 6/30!? The Tread Quarters manager from the location I had visited. After almost 2 whole months I finally got resolution, a decent looking used tire. I will let you be the judge but I personally will never go back to any Tread Quarters location. read more

First of all they are friendly people. I went in for an oil change and paid 70$, seemed a little much but I left happy. I checked my oil the next week and it was completely black and dirty. Thinking something went wrong I went to another shop and they showed me the filter in my car. The filter looked like it hadn't been changed in months. I'm not sure if they were mad at me because I declined the other services they told me were "needed" or if they just took advantage of me because I am a woman. Will never return. Absolute dishonesty and pitiful customer service! Take your business elsewhere! Came in for a simple state inspection and received a call saying it was all good to be picked up, all they had to do was adjust a headlight angle. Upon pickup, they attempted to charge $40 to 'adjust headlight angle' (fyi this takes 1-2 minutes under the hood with nothing but a screwdriver). Clearly telling me they are taking advantage of folks who aren't knowledgeable of vehicles. I advise you go elsewhere. I went to this location because I needed a state inspection. At about 1445, I was told I needed to have the cooling system flushed and refilled and the brake system flushed and refilled because "the fluid was dirty and the age of the vehicle." I declined. Then it took them another hour to complete the inspection I am not dumb folks. read more

I brought my daughter's car here because she was by Toyota that she needed new front breaks. Steven and Jay were great. They took us in to look at the break pads on the car and they told us they did not need to be changed. They cleaned the rear breaks and got us on our way. I brought my husbands truck here yesterday to have the battery changed after it was sitting for over a year after he had a stroke. They did a quick and wonderful job and i was in and out once again. This morning I'm am back to get the state inspection onvhis truck. They took it back quickly and are working on it now. Michael was a joy! They had tires in stock and could have had me out in 15 min but when I asked them if my husband could order tires and have them installed later that week they said absolutely and I was in and out in minutes when they came in. I took my car here for a state inspection and to fix my tire, when they called James at the front desk (short and has nose rings) said my car failed because i'd need my breaks flushed, headlight readjustment, and a few other random things totaling to about 400$ on almost brand new car. I ended up picking my car up and took it somewhere else where it passed inspection fine with a new tire. i believe they straight up attempted to scam me because I was a solo young woman and I believe they will continue to do it so please be careful! get a second opinion and they are also pretty rude on top of it all. read more

Elijah, the black man with a beard and glasses that was up at the front desk 5/13, was completely nonchalant and had a bad attitude towards my mother and I. I brought my papers in from a tirechoice in Chesapeake and he completely brushed them off and said he couldn't do anything with them due to me being serviced in Chesapeake. Which isn't true because the warranty on the back says I can be serviced at different locations. I had to call the Chesapeake location to ask her to send my invoice over to him. Not even a full minute later she calls him and tells him my info. He gets on the phone lying about him trying to help us and that we "argued" and walked away. He didn't give us other solutions , he gave us attitude and we had to find the solutions ourselves. Come to find out the reason for his attitude is because " he's the only one here". Not my problem. I've been the only one working plenty of times and I'm about 13 years younger than him. His customer service is trash and he really showed his unprofessionalism. The only thing he "helped" with is telling me we needed a new rim. He was more worried about his Pollards Chicken being delivered. But when we went to Joes Tires and Auto sales down the street they told us the actual reason. There was a bubble in my tire and the whole thing had to be replaced. Don't go here for an oil change. I went here because I saw a sign for an oil change that read "29.99 oil change". I went in asked for a oil change and was quoted 44.00 I asked if I could get the 29.99 oil change and he said ok it's gonna be 39.98. I said so it's 10 dollars tax. And he said yes and shop fees.... I said ok and then he said this, "well you know what I don't think I'm going to be able to serve you tonight if your gonna be asking those kinds of things. " keep in mind I was just asking about the pricing because the ad on the side of the road read 29.99 oil change and the guy quoted me 39.98. So at that point I said nothing, I just left. Imagine running a business and treating a customer like that. Disgusting. I was simply asking about the pricing? Are customers not allowed to inquire about pricing. And to be thrown out of the shop for simply asking about pricing is horrible. This is one of the worst experiences I have ever had being a customer. My car was making noise from the rear right tire I thought I need rear back brakes and I took my 2012 KIA Soul to Tire Choice on Monticello Ave in Norfolk I thought it was my brakes I walk in and told the guy at the desk I need rear brakes so they change the rear brakes and the mechanic who changed my brakes told me I didn't need brakes and I should have talked to him specifically if I didn't know what was wrong with my car and stated it want your rear brakes making can that noise but I changed them anyway even though you had good brakes and charge me $239.00 then he stated your car need a wheel bearing instead of a brake job and that or be $430.00 extra dollars I paid for everything and now my car has gotten worser I took it back a few days later they had for about an hour and told me it was fix now and the next day it's still making noise iI call back the manager wass disrespectful and told me I might have to pay extra money if I really wanted my car fix I'm going first thing Monday and get me a attorney for this company read more

I went to Tread Quarters for a State Inspection. While the service was fast, I quickly came to realize it was just a scam. The total time between when I brought my car to when the worker came out was about 45 min. This is where the fun began. The first thing the worker told me was that it would cost $300+ to repair my car. Upon further questioning, he admitted that only ~$50 would be needed to pass the inspection. Ultimately he "gave me a $5 discount", which after taxes still ended up being $60+ FOR A STATE INSPECTION THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN $16. My beef with this whole situation was that the worker was very shady and tried to hustle me out of $300+ to provide unnecessary services. And If I wasn't persistent, he would've surely scammed me. I have lost all trust in this shop. Front office management is nice enough and will give you "discounts" and "deals" etc. but be prepared to leave "needing" more repairs than what you came in for. Came in with a blown tire - left needing all sorts of repairs on my breaks, an additional $500-$600. I took my car in for a second opinion to a shop down the street and filled them in on the laundry list of needed repairs provided by Tread Quarters. The new shop took my car for the day to inspect and informed me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my vehicle. A third opinion just in case solidified my decision. On top of claiming fake expenses they never turned my maintenance light off after performing an oil check and they took my one "good" tire after given specific instructions to leave in the car. Maybe this was an honest mistake but absolutely interpreted as shady after all of the other antics. Note to the mechanics and shop management: most consumers are not inept idiots. Sure, I am not a car expert but I have the power of google to help in deductive reasoning and the option to have my car checked out for a second opinion when something doesn't feel right. The better technology gets the more easily you will be found out. read more

Never ever go to tread quarters in this location. It took them four hours to change my back tire. I have no idea what a Every one was doing, there was no one there except for me and two other girls who came after I did. Everyone that came in after me left before i did and I only needed my tire changed. Every time I went to talk to someone about the wait, he kept telling me they were almost done. But when I looked out the window, my car was still in the parking lot. Only when I began to get more and more upset and said "give me the tire, I will put it on myself" did the manager go to the back and yell at someone to put my tire on. After that, they were finished in about 6 minutes. So four hours and six minutes total for a job I could've done myself in 15. read more

This is my go to repair facility. Two days ago, my check engine light came on in my 2011 KIA Forte EX. They ran a diagnostic and told me my Camshaft sensor needed replacing. $366 later as I was going out to dinner, the Check engine came back on. Brought it back in earlier today, and they looked at it again, an hour or so later, they finished and told me, I had let it go 5000 miles past recommended oil change, they changed the oil and charged me $0. When I said it was on me and my neglect they said they had made it right and they probably missed the oil problem themselves. Aces in my book. read more

These guys are extremely slow at working, I dropped my vehicle off to get it inspected at 9:30 and was told "it'll be about 2-3 hours," but I didn't get the call back until 6:00pm! In fact, I had to call them. To top it off, The guy over the phone told me it was finished and the inspector was just putting the sticker on but when I get there, he's still in the middle of the inspection. I wanted to give it at least 2 stars because the guy at the front desk was very kind and helpful but that doesn't enter into it when the rest of the business is faulty. EXCELLENT PROFESSIONAL AND FAST SERVICE!!! BZ! On April 4 2016, I had a bolt caught in my run flat tires. I had it looked at another store and they told me that they couldn't fix it and that my tire needed to replaced. I had sport tires on my car and they are already so expensive. Luckily for me, they didn't have my tire in stock and I didn't want to leave my car in Portsmouth. So I hobbled my car to Tread Quarters on Monticello, because it was close to my house, thinking that if I had to leave my car I could at least walk home. I was simply BLOWN AWAY by the service when I arrived! It was a completely different atmosphere. The employees were professional, friendly and helpful. I was also surprised with overall cleanliness of the waiting/reception area. I truly believe your employees went out of there way to help me. Specifically the Tire Mechanic (I know that's probably not the right title) Chris at the front desk was phenomenal. He refused to give up on the tire and was able to repair it and ensured I had a military discount - without me even asking (I was in uniform). I can't even tell you how great that felt. Chris was on it and he saved me a lot of money by going to the extra mile. I'm telling everyone I know about the fantastic service and to ask for Chris if they have any problems. The service was beyond! I can't overstate it enough! I'm shocked at the number of poor reviews for this place. My car was in and out, they saved me a money, and the employees were very professional and sincere. I couldn't ask for anything more. read more

When my check engine and other lights came on, I called Tread Quarters on Monticello in a panic. He asked me to immediately bring the car in and had a mechanic check it out. The gentleman checked all the fluids, topped off a couple and explained it wasn't my oil. I asked for a computer check of the engine, and it turned out it was acting up from a sensor but safe to drive. I went to pay the bill, and there wasn't one. Mike the new manager and Jay and his assistant in the service bay worked hard to earn my business today. I was told it would be a half hour until my car could be inspected for a tire going flat. When I asked for my keys 20 minutes later with the intent of going elsewhere as my time was at a premium and I was unnerved by the poor reviews I was reading on Yelp, they asked if I would give them a chance. They pulled my car in right away and found a rusty nail in one tire and a leaky seal on the tire pressure gauge of the other. I was allowed to inspect both tires and decide what to do. This built my confidence in the shop. I sincerely hope that all of the guys here continue working hard to provide the kind of respectful, courteous and reasonably-priced service I received today. My family has gone here over the past couple of years pretty regularly. There had always been this young man at the counter who was always friendly, helpful and respectful. When I brought my car in today for several things I know I needed, o noticed the regular guy wasn't there. I inquired about him and the manager said "they replaced a couple of people." I didn't think too much of it at the time. A couple of hours later, someone called and told me I was required to adjust each headlights at the cost of $20 a piece. I was pretty much speechless. I've owned the car since 2013 and never have had issues with the headlights. The young guy said over time they need to be adjusted. I asked both happen to need adjusting after they passed inspection at your store last year ? He didn't have a response other than the headlight check is required. What are the chances BOTH headlights are out of alignment?!?! What a scam! I no longer trust anything they say. What they don't realize, is when you try and charge $40 for tightening a screw on a headlight and loose the trust of the customer, they have now lost the thousands of dollars worth of work that we know we needed.
