This is one of our favorite local spots for lunch! Hubs loves their spicy margarita (he gets it extra spicy by adding fresh jalapeños) and their fresh (and free) chips and salsa goes down too easy! We ordered an order of chips and guacamole which tasted fresh and the chips were warm, fresh out of the kitchen! Then, street tacos (adding a third taco) and the bandito burrito (grilled, with shredded beef). The server was so friendly and everything came out fresh, hot and on time. We spur of the moment had dinner here tonight. We both had the taco salad with shredded beef (think tender roast) and they were pleasant while we made a couple changes. Everything was yummy. Tito's is below average. Their nachos are good, but every other dish I've had there over the years has been disappointing. After trying it several times to account for kitchen staff turnover, I gather that the house recipes simply call for too much salt. Further, they don't do well on presentation. They serve rice and beans in little cups. Their burritos aren't as good as Baja's right down the street. As a native Californian, I love Mexican food. Not too bad! First, both of the tacos that we got were not that bad, but I would definitely add some of the green hot sauce for some more flavor for every bite. The service was very helpful and attentive even though it got busy as time went! Vibes were LOUD throughout the place. You can tell this is a locals and a place that manyyyy come to. I have enjoyed Tito's many times. It's is not fancy Mexican. Tito's is casual . It's simple but has been good many times. The last few times it has not been up to par. There has been a giant pile of cheese melted on top that over takes the meal. The enchilada has been salty and just ok. I am not sure if the kitchen staff are new but sadly it's been mediocre. Great Saturday lunch spot! My wife and I stopped by today for lunch. It was her first time and my first in about 15 years. We had a great lunch, and for 20 bucks were both full. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are not made in house, but are a house brand served hot, excellent salsa. Enough kick yo make you sneeze, but not enough to make you cry. For our lunch we split the carnitas special: two soft corn shells with carnitas, chips, and baked beans. The baked beans were delicious. Very smoky. The server said they cook them all night. The carnitas was tender, clean, and tasty. We also had a three pack of crispy corn tacos with ground beef. Delicious! Definitely worth a try. read more

I come here occasionally for lunch before I head to work. Yes, they can be short staffed but 1) who isn't these days?? And 2) there's a sign saying so when you walk in the door so therefore compassion, patience and understanding are easy to extend here because the staff on duty are awesome! They hustle, smile and do whatever they can to accommodate their customers and provide quality service to the best of their abilities! The food is Mexican comfort food and their salsa is always fresh and addictive! I truly wish I could give Tito's a better review. I visited Saturday evening, one of three parties in the restaurant at the time. So it was not busy at all. I ordered a watermelon margarita and was not asked how I wanted it (frozen, on the rocks, salted or unsalted). I received a margarita on the rocks no salt and unfortunately it has no watermelon flavor at all. I asked the server if in fact it was made to be watermelon and she said yes. My boyfriend's burrito was more than 50% romaine lettuce as a filler. The steak in it was tough and bland. So disappointing. I had asked my server if the refried beans were made fresh or canned, she said they were made fresh but they tasted and had the consistency of canned. My Mexi rice had no flavor whatsoever. If your looking for true Mexican food this unfortunately is not the place to go. read more

Great place. Absolutely loved the customer service and the interior looked sooo quaint. The stained glass was a nice tough that really sparkles with the sun. The food? Amazing. I got the enchiladas and they had both red and green sauce, but let me tell you I couldn't stop eating them both. I know I have a preference for the green sauce but this place seriously made me question my taste. The best part was they gave me a whole bag of chips on the house. I was in uniform and only had a small amount of time for lunch but I'm happy they really support the military like that. Definitely some bonus point from me for that one. read more

The chicken in the tacos tasted like they were from a can and tasted microwave. Definitely would have been better off going to Taco bell next door. Terrible service; No Service. No Bartender, No Servers, only a cook. Got a Draft Beer poured by the cook. Glass was chipped and I only realized after receiving a cut on my top lip. Did not make a Big Deal about this because it was a minor, small cut. The Cook apologies and seeme sincere. Cook got another glass that he inspected before pouring another beer. Was told bartender would return in Five minutes; more like 20-25 minute. Cook made a Delicious shredded beef Burrito with the ingredients he recommended. Came out quickly. Had to walk to kitchen take out window to ask for napkin, then again for eating utensils which I located on a table in the back of dining area. When bartender arrived she was rude and unprofessional. She started giving me a hard time about getting a to go container located on a shelf right on path returning from restroom. Stating that this is not self service and how patrons think they can do whatever and sit wherever they want She didn't want to hear or even listen to my explanation of what happened before she arrived.Then she handed me the check and said you can pay and leave in a threatening tone. First off, I'm not actually from this area. I dined at Tito's when I was visiting my sister who works nearby. With that said, I'm not sure what other Mexican establishments Tito's is competing with. Overall, I thought the food was fine, but I had a couple issues. To me, the salsa had an odd taste to it, like something was just off. I can't really put my finger on it, but it's probably my least favorite Mexican restaurant salsa. I also thought it was kind of a ripoff that they charge you extra money if you want to have more than one type of sauce on your enchilada order (like having one red and one green instead of both the same color). I've had other restaurants give me whatever combo of sauces I want at the same price, and they are using the same amount of sauce, so why upcharge for variety? It just doesn't seem right. I prefer some of the Mexican restaurants in Providence, but that's a whole different neighborhood, so perhaps Tito's is as good as it gets in this 'hood. In any case, I think it's simply mediocre. read more

This place came highly recommended when I had to travel to Newport for some business. They are tucked neatly in on the Main Rd and parking is somewhat limited on their left side. I ordered the Baja Fish Taco platter and they were superb. Perfectly cooked fish over a bed of slaw with a nice pico de gallo. Came with some double fried crispy fries and I washed it down with one of their signature Root beers. The best part though was their salsa. Made home made along with their chips I made sure I took some to go because they were that GOOD. You could taste the herbs and how fresh the vegetables used were in the salsa. It had the perfect balance between heat and acid to counteract the saltiness of your typical salsa. I would definitely come back again for lunch next time I am in the Newport area. read more

I had the MEXICAN COMBO PLATTER: Pork tamale Chicken enchilada Chile Relleno It was a generous portion. It came with refried beans & Mexican rice, side of salsa & sour cream. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't fancy schmancy but a good solid American Mexican combo platter. No canned meat! Interior is *clean* & has great kitschy Mexican memorabilia! I happen to like this place for take-out, I've had better Mexican food but this in my book is better quality than Taco Bell. My usually is just the three pack of hard shell ground beef tacos with sour cream on the side. Their salsa and chips come with take out and it's really delicious!! If you are going to call and order keep in mind they don't start making your order until you get there which is annoying when you're on a time crunch but I guess that means it's more fresh, right? There are better tasting places on the island if you're willing to venture deeper into Newport though but it satisfies my taco cravings! read more
