I happen to like this place for take-out, I've had better Mexican food but this in my book is better quality than Taco Bell. My usually is just the three pack of hard shell ground beef tacos with sour cream on the side. Their salsa and chips come with take out and it's really delicious!! If you are going to call and order keep in mind they don't start making your order until you get there which is annoying when you're on a time crunch but I guess that means it's more fresh, right? There are better tasting places on the island if you're willing to venture deeper into Newport though but it satisfies my taco cravings! read more

Always a great place to stop when on the island. There is such a nice variety of margaritas to choose. My favorite is the skinny with fresh lime juice. Tito's is our all time favorite place for Mexican food. consistency is key and i have always had a great meal and experience here. we are about a 45 minute ride from this location but we still frequent Tito's often. chips and salsa are fresh, we usually get the onion pedals and/ or the guacamole to start both are a great choice. Tacos are amazing, they offer not just ground beef but pulled pork, chicken, and shredded beef which is my taco of choice. If you like margaritas then this should be your place. they offer it in pitchers which is nice if a group drinks the same. atmosphere is great and clean. Love Tito's. I have been coming to Titos for at least 15 years. The food, service and smiles are very consistent. Combinations are not to be beat. You can buy their chips and salsa in the local markets because it is that good. I don't typically drink soda but They have great local homemade soda as well. Made in the old tradition. Cool atmosphere. Affordable prices (2 dinners and a beer came out to less than $40). It was very easy to find parking and they were about a minute from our hotel. I got the ultimate tacos with ground beef and my husband got the burrito with ground beef. We enjoyed our food, left full. I wasn't crazy about the rice but that could just be preference. I was craving some chimichangas so I stopped her I sat at the bar and the bartender / waitress was very friendly and helpful. She definetly had some regulars there and knew what everyone was drinking. I got some complimentary chips as soon as I sat. I had a sangria and it was delicious. It wasn't too boozy or too fruity. It was also reasonably priced which is great since some Places charge an arm and a leg for it. I had a few different chimichangas and all were good. The ingredients were fresh and had lots of flavor. My food came out hot and quick. The prices were great. It cost me about 24$ with tax and tip. Not bad for a huge meal and tummy drink. TIto's is solid mexican with a bit of a Newport price. With a takeout order, we tried a pork burrito (comes with lettuce, tomoto, sauce), chicken burrito (no sauce) and nachos. The main dishes were the best, but some of the accessorizing sauces did well. Particularly like the salsa. If anything else, go to Tito's for chips & salsa in the restaurant (nice decor, btw). I am very impressed by the good quality this mexican restaurant has Because I am from Granada Hills Ca and being from California it's really hard to find good authentic Mexican food in other states. I really enjoyed my food which was the Three Amigos platter. The enchilada sauce was very good and the beans tasted home made that is a plus but the salsa and chips where so yummy could not stop eating. The salsa had the perfect blend of spices and hotness and the tortilla chips were perfectly crispy. The chicken tortilla soup is one of the best soup I really enjoyed. I tried the chicken fajitas. They were good but not great. The vegetables were cooked nicely and chicken was tender. But there was no flavor to the mix. Grilling chicken and vegetables would be better. So in a phrase - not flavorful. The service was not. The waitress brought the menu, took my order, delivered the food and drinks and I got and paid the bill. No conversation, no review of the specials menu, no second drink order. Tito's is pretty hit or miss. I've been here countless times, and I can't even describe how much the entire experience varies each time. There is one waitress that is great! And the rest are... not so great. The food is usually decent, but the drinks are just about the opposite. The drinks pretty much always come out terrible, and they're way overpriced. We're at the point where we don't order drinks there anymore, and we've stopped going altogether unless we plan on getting tacos, the only thing that consistently comes out okay without being incredibly overpriced. The ONLY reason I am giving this place 1 star is because our waitress (Mariah) was pleasant. Other than that, well...... First off, the hostess had a face longer than a horse. What was up her ass??? She sat us, didn't say a word, then simply placed the tray of chips on our table. Second, the so-called chips and salsa were a good indication that the food was going to suck. I mean, these chips are straight out of a bag and the salsa was straight out of a bottle. Then my wife's margarita shows up. Holy shit!!! It tasted like crap, and they DID NOT use Herradura tequila as we requested. I ordered the Fiesta Chicken and Steak Fajitas. Now, when I usually order fajitas they come in a searing and sizzling pan. Mine came wrapped in a cold, flour tortillas coupled with very watery green peppers. The rice that came with my dish could have very well been straight from an Uncle Ben's pack of rice. Then, my daughter's rolled tacos came out. OMG. They are the type of frozen, pre-cooked tacos that you get from a supermarket freezer. All I can say that $45 for all of this was 1) a rip off and 2) an insult to us as customers. We paid decent money from extremely crappy food - we expected fresh food, not frozen lean-cuisine crap. Now, being Newport, I can understand that maybe Mexican food is not as 'authentic' as it could be, but damn, this food SUCKED!!! The staff was very nice, but my waitress was almost non-existent and so incredibly slow that I had to get up and ask another waitress if she could find her. My credit card was sitting on the check on my table for so long that I eventually got bored and dropped a 20 dollar bill for my 18.50 tab. I'm sorry but you might as well go next door to the Taco Bell. You will pay less and it will be delicious. The servers were nice so it's nothing about the service but my goodness this food is something I wouldn't feed to my worst enemy. $15 for a ranchera burrito which was a little bit bigger than burritos you can find in the frozen section in a 6 pack. All that was inside this $15 burrito was just meat. We pay extra for "carne asada" which might as well been unseasoned meat cooked in its fat juice in a shallow pan. This might as well been called the Queso Burrito. It was so dry. Barley an sauce on it. Zero flavor. The chips were not warm. The salsa is anything you can get from a jar at the store. I took my food to go because I didn't want it obvious that it was horrendous. But when we went a few blocks up the road it smelled so bad in the car when we reached the McDonald's that we had to pull over to throw it out. This place really needs to rethink how it operates. Being that it's Cinco de Mayo, it's quite quintessential to venture to a Mexican restaurant, and for me an authentic Mexican restaurant. I was left very unsatisfied and still hungry. Food: I ordered the chicken fajita with Mexi rice and refried beans. Absolutely no flavor on all three components. Service: we were "greeted" by our server with, "do you know what you wanna drink?" Went there for lunch and it was great! Food came out fast and hot. Got the pulled beef burrito and it was huge. Beef was super tender and plenty of it. Not sure how they get their chips so delicious, but they were and salsa was perfect heat. The staff was so nice and they even took some time to talk to my husband and I. There is a review on here that says "titos it's better than Taco Bell" it's actually been a running joke between my husband and I since we moved out here. At least at Taco Bell you get your food. I came here with low expectations and still managed to be disappointed. Waited an hour 0 refills and one plate of nachos later (which took 20 minutes to begin with, cheese chips how hard is that) we still had no food. Finally Managed to flag down one of the waitresses. We waited. Our main waitress returned to inform us that our ticket had been lost. Seriously? It took over an hour to realize that we had no food and that the ticket had been lost? I stopped at Tito's for a quick bite while I was in the middle of wrapping up my shopping on Christmas eve and it was nice to find the place as good as I remember it. It's been several years since I last got food there (aside from the salsa and chips, which you can find in some Massachusetts grocery stores) -- and about ten years since I last lived on the island -- and the way that businesses seem to be folding there nowadays, it was truly refreshing that a small non-chain like Tito's is still open. I hope they continue to thrive; I consider Tito's a symbolic middle finger to the Taco Bell that operates next door to them. I had the chicken burrito. It wasn't loaded with toppings -- lettuce, cheese and that was pretty much it -- but it was hot, lightly seasoned (I kicked it up with some El Yucatero red habanero sauce), and the chicken was tender and delicious. It was a good quick fix, and the handful of chips and small container of salsa that they always throw in is a nice touch. I ate it in the car, but there is table seating as well as a full bar, which I don't think was a feature when I was living in Newport. The service was quick and the staff was warm and personable. Total pros. Give these folks your business next time you're there. read more

Wow. I'm surprised to log onto Yelp and see such a low rating for Tito's Cantina. The last time I was in Newport in 2006 (before I knew about Yelp), I liked this place so much I think I ate here three times in one week. So when I returned to Newport this week, I didn't even bother looking it up on Yelp. I just went, and I was very pleased with my meal there. I grew up in San Diego, and Mexican food is a staple in my diet (if you can call it a "diet" ha ha). When I go to a restaurant that claims to be "authentic", I always search for things like mole poblano on the menu. Tito's has mole chicken enchiladas, which is close enough for a restaurant in Rhode Island 3,000 miles from the Mexican border. They weren't AS good this time as they remembered they were last time I was here two years ago, but they were still very tasty. They also have great chips and delicious salsa. It's a fairly small place with maybe a dozen tight booths. It might be difficult to squeeze a wheelchair between the column supports and the tables, but the atmosphere is vibrant. The service was prompt and professional. The price is reasonable for both the quantity and quality of food they provide. I'm certain I'll be going back to Tito's again while I'm here in Newport (and whenever I come back). read more

This place is god awful. It looks like they took a Taco Bell from the 90's and made it less classy. The kitchen screwed up my order and didn't offer anything while I waited for them to remake it. The staff in general looked like they were attending an 8am class at college with yoga pants and dirty t shirts. They like to play the blame game and not take responsibility for delivering an order that was clearly wrong. The food was WAY over priced. There is a Taco Bell next door that I know serves higher quality product and I could have eaten like a king for what I paid for two small enchiladas. Normally the chips and salsa can save a restaurant for me but they were clearly a generic manufacturer with their name slapped on the bottle and bag. Ugh. Lets talk a little about the clientele, first there were screaming babies, totally fine, its a family restaurant, now how about an 11 year old yelling, making loud farting noises, and then saying "Mommy I farted! I love you!." At minimum you speak with the customer and asked them to control their child, at my establishment you eject them like any unruly drunk would be. A Gluten Free Rant...strap in bruh Titos used to be my go-to. I moved away for a few years and found out I had a gluten allergy. No big deal...I'll just eat a lot of Mexican food. (Which I do) Revisited Titos with a glutinous mind and the waitress told me everything that had gluten in it. Correct me if Im wrong Uncle Tito but apparently their meats are cooked in a stock containing gluten. ....Oh, you're telling me Titos is a Mexican restaurant with no gluten free options....hmmmmm, the only Mexican restaurant in history to not have gluten free options. Anyway, Tito's is a Rhode Island chain Mexican restaurant that is goofy and fun and all that shit, while not being terribly "authentic" by traditional standards, but fuck it, who gives a shit, anywyay?!?! It is gringorific, but it's coo! I almost always get the black bean and rice burrito. It's $6 and change. There is just something goddamn good about that goddamn thing!!! Also, I dig the salsa. It's cilantro-y and onion-y, which is coo! Other meals consist of all the shit you would expect to find on a Mexican menu. They also have a burger and some other random specials from time to time. The fake green cactus outside tells you exactly what you will find inside: great TexMex food. The service is excellent and the food is what it should be. The chicken mole (chocolate sauce) is a delicious classic, but it's hard to go wrong anywhere on the menu. Nice warm chips are brought to the table. The fresh guac is also worth having. Every time I drive through Newport someone in the car asks if we can go to Tito's. It's hard to say no. Back again last weekend. Mole chimichanga was a special. Great service as always. This is our favorite Mex restaurant when in Newport. However, this last visit was not up to snuff so it gets 3 stars (still "A-OK" ). We went for the nachos and picture of Margaritas, what a dinner!. The parking lot was almost full but there were still 3 tables left, so never let a seemingly full parking lot stop you from going. The chips were thick and just OK. I've gotten used to the very thin and hot chips that other places serve. The "famous" salsa was also just OK, seemed like it was basically tomato sauce with some herbs. Put them together for the nachos and it was truly "just OK". THe margaritas are about the best you can get in a restaurant, not acidic but on the sweet side, which is good and brought our experience back to A-OK. Service that night was not "A-OK" but "Y-uck". It was around 8:30 on a Friday and our waitress acted like it was past last call and time for us to go and she had better things to do. read more
