Small no-frills cafe near Ocean Beach and Lands End. Not too crowded on a Saturday. Lunch menu has a selection of burgers, sandwiches and fried items. Got the fish and chip combo and a side order of onion rings. Didn't take them too long to cook the food. Everything tasted pretty decent and fresh. Given the low price point, the fish and chips weren't the biggest and meatiest fish pieces, but they were solid. Nice upgrade from that place, the worst Burger King EVER!!! The menu are big and in the window. The pictures in the window are always plus. I want to see what it is I am getting. The pricing is very fair for what you are getting. I came here craving a burger and a burger is what I got. One order of garlic fries and one Mushroom Cheeseburger as well. The business is small and has limited seating but if you get here before noon you can sit and enjoy your meal. The folks here are very nice. In being familiar with area I was on the lookout for people asking for change. It is as common as a "COLD" around this part of the city. There were a few homeless wandering around outside but they were not as rowdy as they tend to be. This cafe has much of an old diner kind of feel to it, without the stools and jukebox. The fries were good but I would have liked more garlic seasoning on the fries. The burger was hefty which made for a full stomach. Just keep in mind that parking can be a bit difficult because there are other businesses in the area. However, there is residential parking in the area just a block away. Nice joint. read more

Look, TJ Cafe is not going to win any Michelin Stars or be featured Food & Wine magazine. But if you just want some good home cooking / comfort food this is a good as any and possibly one of the best spots in the outer sunset in terms of convenience and price. Clam chowder is very good. Burgers are fine and they even have non beef options too. Fish and Chips are good and Deep Fried Shrimp also good. Again, this is simple, home cooking comfort food. Sometimes simple is just as satisfying. Delivery is always fast. I have yet to try any of the breakfast items but will do that soon. TJ Cafe is my go to place for a quick, down home meal. I'm going to follow suit with the other inflated reviews for TJ Café. This is not a destination restaurant. This place is not a reason to drive out to the Outer Richmond. The reality is, if you are in the Outer Richmond - especially Ocean Beach Area - there are very very few options out here in walking distance. TJ Café provides all around good take-out (or dine-in) food to those of us who live out here, and those visiting the beach. Burgers? Good. Onion Rings? Good. Patty Melt? Good. Chicken strips? Good. Prices? Good. Only thing I don't like there is the coffee, but my standards are skewed for SF pour overs. Also they do take-out orders over grub hub which is super convenient - turn around time is always pretty quick. They also deliver, but I have never done delivery. read more

They offer everything here - breakfast, burgers, sandwiches etc. I've been meaning to try this place out since they opened but never got around to it until today. I ordered a Malibu chicken burger and my friend ordered a burger. We got a large plate of fries to share. They make this to order so do expect a wait. The owner brought the food to our table in little red baskets. The sandwich and burger were huge. Much bigger than what you get at an actual BK. This place is the perfect lunch spot. It's in such a great location because the beach is literally a block away, and the people who run this joint are incredibly nice you just want to hug them. Oh, and did I mention the freaking fantastic sandwich I had? When the woman at the register was taking both my friend and mines order, she did so like she was proud to do it. It was nice to see, because if that's how all the employees work here, then it shows the love the place has for it's customers. Small things like opening our straw and putting them in our cups for us. It was sweet. I ordered their Cheese Steak sandwich, with a side salad. The salad was made of actual lettuce and not iceberg lettuce: A huge plus!!! It came with cherry tomatoes and mushrooms, and be warned that they do not have bleu cheese dressing. Simple yet delicious! Some background: TJ Cafe used to be the exact location of a Burger King. It was the Burger King that was a big part of my own childhood, as I went there daily to be with friends and go to Ocean Beach after. The day I found out they were closing it down was a sad one; it meant no more hangouts with my friends near the beach. Present day: This was my first time ever at TJ Cafe since its inception. It actually was pretty weird coming back and seeing the same exact layout: cash register that sits in the same spot, tables formatted in the same way, etc. It was a Deja Vu moment. I looked through the menu and loved that they offer so many options: an unlimited number of breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, coffee, fries- you name it! I had the Mushroom Cheese Burger and it was splendid. It brought me back to the good ole' days. This isn't your typical new age burger like Super Duper, Unami Burger, or any of those artisan burgers that are now so popular/mainstream in San Francisco. Definitely a more simple burger than that, but that's exactly what I liked about it. Final verdict: not only does TJ Cafe offer a great selection of food, but they do so at a very affordable price (2 burgers and 2 orders of fries for under $20). The people here are friendly, the service is quick, and the food itself is tasty! You can't go wrong coming here for a morning coffee, lunch or even dinner. This used to be a Burger King before they opened up shop. I got the tuna melt, and the food is pretty good for the price $6 and some change. I'd like to try other items in the near future to see if there is consistency. Their items do look tasty. I have struggled to find out how to best describe my long awaited visit to TJ Cafe. I was surprised to find that this place has the nicest people in the world. The food here however isn't great. I mean they aren't really even worth stopping by if I'm in the area. I know it seems harsh, but it's just bland food for bland's sake. I got a very sub par but somewhat salty burger & the hashbrowns were essentially flavorless. I also tried the somewhat average corned beef & bland fries. You know what though? The eggs were good. This place needs to let the paper plates go, they are gross and I can't see it why they would do it. It makes me feel like I'm at a family picinic, but the food isn't good and no matter how nice everyone is I just wanna leave. The music could be better too. I wish I had more to say because I hate writing short reviews, but I'm essentially giving them a third star for politeness. So take that with a grain of salt. CHAD read more

This is a solid 4 star -- but given the star inflation on yelp, I now will give a 5 (review for breakfast). The prices for good breakfast food is about as good as it gets here, and the potatoes are actually better then far more expensive places serve. Sure, you will get better food at so many of the fufu places you can find in SF, but for those just looking for good simple everyday breakfast at normal (non Bay area) prices, this is the place to go. No competition for that in the Outer Richmond district, so I guess for SF, simple breakfast -- this is "as good as it gets". Nice folks to, and once even got a hug from a lady patron who felt I needed it (I did). Note to those who gave a one star just because of restroom policy: if they did not have this policy, their restroom would quickly become an unusable dump due to the many homeless people in this area. They really don't have a choice if they want regular customers to come back. The many beach goers who just want to use their facility and not pay for dining does not help either. They did not create the homeless problem, or cash-less beach bums, but they need to live with it. We were looking for a place to eat after visiting Ocean Beach to see the LEAP Sand Castle sculptures as well as see all the amazing corgi(s) at Corgi-con! We arrived at TJ Cafe thanks to Yelp's suggestions and reviews about their great food. When we visited, it looked like the cafe was run by one woman in the front and one man in the back. The woman in front was quiet, but very friendly and helpful. We ordered a cheeseburger and two California burgers with fries. The fries were great. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Very very lightly salted so we could add more if we wanted. The burgers were thick and juicy. We got generous thick wedges of avocado and it was just a great way to wrap up our beach visit! They are just a block away from the beach and along with the great food came great customer service! They brought the food to our table and even got us ketchup and napkins. We will definitely eat here again when we visit Ocean Beach or the SF Zoo. Good food, but even better customer service! Pros: Good food. Great customer service. Great food presentation. Fairly quiet. Amazing place for lunch on a sunny day. Not that far from the beach and the place had a positive vibe. Prices were very good than most small restaurants in the area. The garlic fries were very good, surprisingly better than most we've tried, and it doesn't make your breath smell as much. People who worked there were very, very nice and food came so fast.
