For this place being in San Francisco and near the beach, i was surprised this place was so affordable. And the waitress was so adorable and happy. It is an awesome hole in the wall in Outer Richmond by the coast and beach to get some cheap, good food. I came here for breakfast before a long walk up the Coastal Trail and definitely got my money's worth. I ordered the Bountiful Breakfast which comes with 2 eggs and potatoes. There is choice between pancakes, French toast, or toast. I went with the pancakes. There is also a choice of bacon, sausage, or ham. I had the sausage, which I definitely recommend. It is a ridiculous amount of food for $5.55. You would think that the pancake would be small in this combination. Nevertheless, it was a full size, large pancake. All the food is very good. Honestly this place gets 5 stars mostly because of how cheap it is! I got the Philly Cheese steak combo but with garlic fries instead of regular (for $0.50 more) and a drink. IT WAS UNDER $10. Finding filling meals under $10 is basically impossible in SF unless its burritos. So hats off to this place to keeping the price down. Now we just have to keep it in business! The garlic fries are some of the best I've eaten and rank up there with the AT&T garlic fries. Their burgers are delicious and have fresh ingredients. I've also had their fish burger and I love the crispy fish smothered in avocado and a sweet tartar sauce. TJ Cafe, you may remember me as the guy who walked into your store on a Saturday morning a few months ago and offered to work for you for free. You know, there's something fantastic in the simplicity of their menu. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but boy does it deliver! My boyfriend and I stopped here after biking around San Francisco the entire morning. We were exhausted, hungry, and hankering for a juicy burger. I ordered the California Burger, my boyfriend ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger, and we ordered a side of Garlic Fries to split. Now, the burger. Oh the burger. It was impeccable. The meat was thoroughly seasoned, but not too oversalted. I swear they also chopped up a whole entire avocado and threw it on top. I did not find myself grabbing for mayo or ketchup because the whole thing just jived as one. It was perfect. My boyfriend was very pleased with his choice, as well. The garlic fries were piping hot and delicious! Other Yelpers were spot on in saying that the lady at the counter is the sweetest lady you could possibly imagine. She wanted to make sure that every part of our order was perfect. And even though the restaurant was self service, she took it upon herself to bring us all our napkins and utensils and our order. My boyfriend is picky with the doneness of his burger, and the chef was also very concerned with making everything perfect. I enjoyed my meal here and I'm definitely glad I passed up a $15 Umami Burger for this amazing little place! EDIT: I feel like the people who have given this place negative reviews come in expecting gourmet food. I would urge them to keep in mind that neither the shop nor the reviewers are trying to pretend that it's something it's not. The food was good...but the parking non-existant. Definitely a locals place, as in, if you don't live within walking distance...you're not parking anywhere near the joint. As Steven Wright used to riff..."I used to work at a Fire Hydrant factory...but you couldn't park anywhere near the place." I tried TJ Cafe today based on its high ratings on Yelp! Having been there and tasted the food myself I have to say it is overrated. TJ Cafe is the former site of a Burger King restaurant that closed down. The inside looks very much like a Burger King and it seems likely that the tiles on the floors and walls as well as the chairs/ padded booth seating are all repurposed BK originals. Fortunately it doesn't taste like much Burger King, hence the 3 star rating. For under $10 total you can get a decent burger or sandwich with fries and a drink. The burger patty, fries, and onion rings are all clearly premade and frozen and they likely come from the Safeway one block over or from Costco. Its not bad but its not great. You basically get the same level burger you would get if you went to any generic grocery store, bought a pack of frozen patties, a bag of buns, some kraft american cheese slices, the fixings, and made them yourself. TJ Cafe is definitely worth it in terms of convenience if you want a simple burger fast on a budget... but I would never recommend anyone go out of their way to try the food here. read more

I found TJ through Yelp on my way out of San Francisco for a quick bite before hitting the road. I was skeptical being so close to the water that it might be a tourist trap. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was not. I grabbed a quick burger and fries and sat outside. The sweet woman working there was wonderful by moving a table outside for us just so I could enjoy the weather. My burger was great, the produced tasted fresh (I had hope so since I was in California) and the onion rings awesome. Parking was easy enough just around the block and off the Great Highway. Went to check out this little cafe on the way to the beach. All menu items are definitely priced reasonably. We had the garlic fries and the bacon cheeseburger. The patties are definitely pre-formed/frozen. But they are generous in size. The toppings are fresh and tasty. The garlic fries don't appear to be much, but they are crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. Super tasty and definitely recommend. We made another quick stop and couple of days later. Had some coffee and clam chowder. Clam chowder was fair, the hubby enjoyed it more than I. All in all, it's a good spot for a quick meal at a fair price. read more

I was looking for a local restaurant to have breakfast on Sunday morning. Based on reviews, TJ Cafe seemed to be the perfect choice. Boy was I wrong. The cafe is small, dingy and smells overwhelming like disinfectant. The staff is friendly but the menu choices are pathetic. The food is poor quality and poorly made. The food was extremely greasy and the corned beef hash was from a can. The meals were served on paper plates with plastic flatware. Save yourself the trouble of going to TJ Cafe, and head down to Safeway. Safeway serves a better breakfast. read more

If you want to grab a bite to eat near Ocean Beach (the Folsom entrance), this is such a great option. They're super cheap and don't have a lot of sitting room, but their burgers were exactly what we were looking for. Actually I got the grilled chicken sandwich and my friends all got burgers, but they were all great! The food is fresh, despite how much the place looks like a Burger King. Great little place. I'm so glad it replaced Burger King. I had the B.L.A.S.T., which is a BLT with avocado on sour dough (but you can choose your bread). I was not disappointed. This was my Burger King growing up. I have many fond memories of going to get a fish Burger with my friends and then going back to her house to play Dead or Alive 2. Anyways. Now I have new fond memories of going here in the morning to get breakfast burritos with my significant other when I visit my parents. The chorizo breakfast burrito (~4.95)is so good. My boyfriend thought we were going to split 50/50 our veggie burrito and the chorizo burrito. No way. Go get your own.
