I work in the restaurant industry and I did not know how bad it was until today. This place held their own on our visit. They only had two servers and a bartender that day working and they were working as fast as they could. When we arrived we had maybe a 20 minute wait but we were very understanding since they were short staffed. Our server was the bartender so she was kind of busy but she did do a great job. I think that since they have the ability to send our order right at the table it makes it easier for them and it lets us as guest know that our order has been sent to the kitchen at least. Everything came out in a timely manner. I created my own omelet and it was really good. Despite being terribly busy, me and my mom were seated within 10 minutes at a little table by the door. Our waitress was very sweet and quick to get us our drinks (I recommend trying their peach tea! It was amazing). Their choice of food is awesome, which made deciding on what to eat so hard. But, I went with the stuffed French toast with peaches and my mom got the Belgium French toast and a side of bacon. WOW! Is all I have to say for everything! The stuffed French toast was to-die-for! The food was good. We had the chicken and waffles and the blue crab and shrimp omelette. The service was okay. They were pretty busy and I guess the young man was doing the best that he could do. Like most places, they appeared to be short staffed. The ambiance was buzzing with lots of noise and energy. I noticed that they have changed the name and I am not sure if that has impacted them in any way. Just a side note, they didn't have any clean silverware so they brought us plastic. They did provide some, not long after our food arrived at our table. He did apologize for not having any clean silverware. First thing you notice on their site is "selected by the NYT!"...not true as I looked it up, and there is no verification. The photo you see is my bill. It's included in this review for reasons I will explain soon. The food was maybe 2/5 stars for both meals. Very flavourless. Service was good despite not mentioning....... First thing ordered was the beignets. They come dusted with sugar. The waitress asked if we wanted them with sprinkled cinnamon. Sounded good. We were not informed that it would add $2 to the bill. Next was my wife's omelet. She was asked by the waitress if she would like fruit instead of grits. We were not informed that it would add $2 to the bill. My waffle chicken arrived and I couldn't detect any honey. I asked for more honey. A teaspoon of honey arrived. I was not informed that it would add $0.75 to the bill. Then the bill arrived. I was not informed that paying with a credit card would add $1.58 to the bill for a "non-cash convenience fee". My wife did not read the bill and gave the server a $10 tip, roughly 18% of the non-taxed amount (also tipped on the 3% fee apparently). I noticed our small brunch had totalled $60. We decided to leave despite an obvious case of nickel-and-dime ripoff. Pathetic. Ludicrous. Contemptible. A piteous sham of a scam. Avoid. read more

First visit here and we did enjoy it. I wasn't impressed with the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit because it was plain but the home fries was good. We also got the crab cake sandwich which was good, the dry rubbed ribeye that was good but they should have offered a steak knife. Service was good and quick. disappointing. when first arrived was told the wait was 15-20 minutes. We were told the table was ready after waiting for 42 minutes. Nothing inherently wrong with the wait but if it was going to be that much over the estimated time the hostess should have been transparent about it. ordered the chicken and waffles and side of 2 eggs. 31 dollars total. The portion we received was lackluster. 4 small pieces of toast and 2 chicken tenders. Food wasn't horrible but nothing special. For the price should have received a larger portion and better quality food. Although the food and wait was not the best the waitress was very nice and did a great job taking care of us. Positives: the coffee is strong, the portions are large and the wait staff seems nice and interested in their customers. The biscuits are a big as a baby's head. And not too sweet. The southern omelette was packed with ingredients -- tons of bacon and spinach. This is a place to go for a ginormous plate of breakfast. Good Southern rock softly coming out of the speakers. Cons: the atmosphere is dirty and tired. I can't understand this since this Mount Pleasant Toast is pretty new. It is hard to have a delicious breakfast when the surroundings feel depressed or run down. And the pancakes are grainy -- what's up with that? Somebody did put sweet mason jars with fresh flowers on each table and I appreciate that. Overall, we had a huge breakfast for two for $23. They should change the name to toast at MT PL! The food was not good. The service was half-hearted and lackluster. I went and believed the hype online. I thought this was the best Mt. Pleasant had to offer in terms of breakfast. Boy was I wrong. It all began with the hostess. When I walked in and tried to sit down the hostess acted like I didn't belong. Granted I just left the gym...her first words were " you can get your food faster if you order to go!" I said no I want to sit at that table. She said, "okay, if you have to!" Who tries to talk someone out of eating in an establishment??? So I sit and wait patiently until this waitress comes and takes my order and she never told me her name. The food took an eternity and when it arrived the woman said " I was looking for you a big biscuit!" to which I replied "I'm sure I won't be able to eat it all anyway" The open face house omelet was cooked way too long and the only redeeming grace we're the vegetables and cheese. The grits were rather amazing, but the biscuit was dry as the Sahara desert. I just basically ate the vegetables off the top of the omelet and the grits. Everything else was inedible! I had planned on bringing my whole group the following day, but I had to tell them it wasn't worth leaving the wild dunes to eat here. Not the best experience here on Saturday, Sept 16. In full disclosure we originally wanted to go to First Watch, but their staff literally walked out the door. We were starving, so we thought about giving Toast a try. Our waitress was either not trained properly, overworked, simply incompetent, or a mix of the above. She could not figure out how to use the ordering device to add a side salad, and gave it to us to do on our own. Sometimes you can just tell when a place is off...definitely could tell here. The food was expensive for what it was. $16 for eggs, toast, and a side of meat? Good grief. read more

It took a while to get it. the place is small and in my opinion it's not as clean as I would've hoped. We went in with our family of six and we got promptly sat which was nice. So I took my son to breakfast to introduce him to Toast. I'm very fond of all the restaurants in this group, but most frequently dine at Toast. Since he had never been here, we decided to split two breakfasts. I've ordered the pork chop biscuit and he ordered the Irish omelette. Of course, knowing the restaurant, I ordered a side of the red Pepper remoulade because it goes good with everything!! We had a fabulous breakfast, fantastic service, and a great visit! The number of employees without a mask alone renders your explanation a bit ridiculous. Best of luck. ---- One single employee taking out the trash was wearing a mask during my visit. No other employee was. No masks during COVID in the service industry? I asked about it and was told the business owner has to enforce masks, because the city has a flexible rule in place. Obviously, that's not happening. This is a tourist stop, and I expect safety to be prioritized with the amount of people coming in and out and being at 100% capacity. I have been in the restaurant business for over 45 years, serving, cooking and bartending. On Thursday 6/15/23 I, and my wife and daughter decided to eat at this "Toast" location. I have eaten at several of the other locations of "Toast" and have raved about the food and service for many years. Colman Blvd., being the last location. The food THERE was outstanding !!! This Hungryneck location...not so much. It was by far the absolute worst food I have ordered (and attempted to eat) in the past 10 years at least. My wife ordered the Cobb Salad...it was horrendous. It looked and tasted like an experiment my 6 year old would throw together. The "Irish Omlet" was filled with hard scraps of corned beef(?) that had failed the 5 HOUR rule. I could not even finish the first bite. The service was very good, but what was served was awful. The grits were delicious...but all else was terrible. My daughter's shrimp basket was decent, and that was all we could salvage!!! After quietly asking for a manager, I stepped aside and explained the situation. She apologized (I think) and said she would take care of me, since we all had to go elsewhere to eat. $38 dollars later (only the salad and omelet were comped) we left hungry and pissed off. I will never eat at that location again, and as I deal with the public on a regular basis...I will NEVER recommend that location ever again. I love the food at ALL OTHER TOAST LOCATIONS...but do not go to that one if you wish to get edible food. The manager needs to step up and ensure this never happens again. And, for the sake of this business, she must learn how to take care of serious complaints. The absolute minimum will just not do. If I could rate less than zero...I would. read more

So exactly what does "Toast" mean? Is it a method of cooking? Is it a tribute to a special person or people? Makes you wonder how a word can have more than one meaning and there worlds apart. I wish I could say this restaurant was worlds above others, but I can't. What I can say is Toast is VERY casual. We ventured in for breakfast. None of the staff were donning masks. In their defense, Mt. Pleasant no longer requires the wearing of masks. I just feel it's a courtesy to others. Our waitress, Summer, was very good. She was accommodating and courteous. I ordered a bacon omelet with grits and a biscuit. Hubby just got biscuit and had some of the omelet. Bacon was crisp and biscuit was good. I didn't care so much for the grits. There was some added flavor that wasn't pleasing to my pallet. The decor is very dark. There is a huge bar with a variety of drinks. The atmosphere reminds me of a bygone disco era. Will I go back? Probably not. Too many other good breakfast restaurants in the area. It was worth a first look. read more
