So exactly what does "Toast" mean? Is it a method of cooking? Is it a tribute to a special person or people? Makes you wonder how a word can have more than one meaning and there worlds apart. I wish I could say this restaurant was worlds above others, but I can't. What I can say is Toast is VERY casual. We ventured in for breakfast. None of the staff were donning masks. In their defense, Mt. Pleasant no longer requires the wearing of masks. I just feel it's a courtesy to others. Our waitress, Summer, was very good. She was accommodating and courteous. I ordered a bacon omelet with grits and a biscuit. Hubby just got biscuit and had some of the omelet. Bacon was crisp and biscuit was good. I didn't care so much for the grits. There was some added flavor that wasn't pleasing to my pallet. The decor is very dark. There is a huge bar with a variety of drinks. The atmosphere reminds me of a bygone disco era. Will I go back? Voted Best Breakfast ? Who ever did that review must have been drunk ! The beignets were almost burnt you could tell the oil needed to be changed like a week ago. The server seemed like she did not like her job much. Food was just ok and way too expensive for what it was. I was charged $1 for changing my cheese from pepper jack to cheddar $2 for fruit instead of potatoes and 3% charge for using a cc and not cash we were not informed about any of the additional charges other than seeing the fruit up charge on the menu (our server should have mentioned any and all additional charges) which was ridiculous being that all other places we went were cashless it was the most expensive breakfast we had on our 7 day road trip and the least impressive we won't ever go to a Toast all day again. COVID ALERT THEY DONT WEAR MASKS: They sat us down at a table with mushed food and ants on the floor, next to an open parking spot, where a huge car tried to park and nearly ran us over. When the people got out of the car they swung the door open on us! On top of this we had no waiter for 30 minutes. I finally got up and told the girl at the front we still had not gotten a waiter and she ended up waiting us. I feel bad because she was really sorry and she told us she had never waited a table before, she was just in charge of seating people. Under horrible management. This location used to be the best its close to home, I work 3rd shift so after work I love to come here and grab a drink... but not this past weekend I was told they can't sell alcohol until 10am all the sudden. I thought it was a joke. I felt horrible for the bartender as she kept having to deny people, money, and sells. Why even have the bar open before then if she cant do her job till 10am? I waited till 10am mainly because the bartender is awesome and like I said I felt bad for her. It was 9:52am she starts making a bloody marry for one of her regulars as the manager walks by she yells "remember no alcohol before 10am"... I get the manager is trying to follow rules and laws, but tell me how I go to the king street location TODAY and got served alcohol at 8am? Was shopping in Mt. Pleasant yesterday and decided to go to Toast. Have been to the one in Summerville and thinks it's a good olace to eat, but I will not be going back to the one in Mt. Pleasant, too many negatives. One of my gauges of a well run restaurant is how clean it is and the restrooms are a good indicator. When your shoes stick to the floor it's a pretty good indicator that not a lot of cleaning happening here. When you order a "basket" it comes with 2 sides, but none were brought with the entree, we had to ask. We also observed other customer having issues. Our server was certainly not our advocate. We stopped for breakfast on our way out of town, heading home from a weekend in the area. We were in a bit of a hurry and were happy to get seated immediately. We had never been to Toast before and our server, Hayes, offered to make some recommendations for us even before we asked! I wanted The NY Times recommended French toast and he suggested the peach. It was perfection! My husband had the corned beef hash and eggs and home fries. He remarked that it was great and the portion size definitely satisfied his appetite. I don't get it, It was extremely crowded but there were quite a few people here. We got chicken and waffles and were very disappointed. I really wanted this place to be great as it's so close to my house. We ate here once back in like November and it was okay then. I made reservations for Christmas Eve on Resy last year and ON Christmas Eve they called and told me they were closed. So I had to scramble to figure out how to feed a bunch of people that day. We tried it again Friday night with a group of 5. The hostess told us "this was the most people that had been there all week" first thing when we walked in. There was ONE waitress for a Friday night. She was doing her best but it took forever to get one beer. Then one of our family member's steak smelled awful, like the meat had turned. I will be surprised if it's open much longer. I'm sorry to report that we had a very poor experience here for Sunday breakfast. Arrived around 10am with 4 people and a couple of dogs. We were seated right away, but not at a proper table - they had us sit at the corner bench outside which are set up for waiting. At first we were happy that they accommodated us so quickly, but then we realized why that area is not normally used for seating - it was extremely sunny and hot, with no shade whatsoever, and black leather seats. On top of sitting directly in the blazing sun, we waited a very long time for our food. To the point where when our food finally arrived, we went ahead and asked for the check because we just didn't want to be there anymore. I ordered the Jumbo Breakfast Sandwich on toast. The "toast" was just warm bread - it was not toasted. The country ham was pretty tasty though. Also, when we paid (split checks), our server double charged one of our cards. So we had to wait even longer to get her to resolve it. Nice that they welcome dogs, but that's the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1. We definitely won't be returning. read more

Several recommendations led us to this place for brunch on Saturday morning. This was our 1st trip to Charleston and with so many recommends, and a location close to our Air B&B, why not give it a shot?! I'm not sure if all Toast locations are Dueling Piano bars or not, but this one is. There was no one playing while we were there, but I am sure that is an evening weekend kind of experience. We were seated quickly and our server was very friendly. I ordered a Bacon Bloody Mary and It was a choice that I do not regret at all!!! It was delicious. For my meal I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Home Fries. My boyfriend ordered Jumbo Breakfast Biscuit with Home Fries. My meal was incredible. I cleaned my plate and would happily eat that again tomorrow morning! My boyfriend liked this meal, however for a biscuit of this size in the south, he was somewhat disappointed. I would give this place one star, but the freshly squeezed orange juice in the mimosas was delightful. However, the food and service were dismal. The poached eggs on my Traditional Eggs Benedict were over cooked so that they were hard. This could have been because they were served to me cold and had continued cooking after they were pulled out. There was also very little hollandaise sauce on the dish. The hardness of the egg yolks coupled with the lack of sauce made it exceptionally dry on the cold English muffin. Also there was an excessive amount of paprika. I like paprika, but this was so overwhelming and dry it got caught in my throat. They also mixed up the sides on our plates so my husband had my salad with his entree, and I had his grits. When we switched it over he was left with a plate smeared in vinegarette. The grits were flavorless. My husband had me taste them because he was convinced they were straight out of the box. I concurred. There was no butter or flavoring period. Also they provided a serving spoon with which to eat the grits that awkward to eat with in comparison to the bowel. After not seeing our server for sometime while dining in the summer heat, I finally decided to go in and pay. I was told I couldn't, and that my server would bring the check. Thankfully, someone overheard this and came over to let me pay. I think they are struggling with staff, as I heard someone say shortly after we were seated that the outside staff was finally there. Went to Toast on a Sunday for breakfast and was surprised at how full it was. The hostess told us that bar seating is first come / first serve and there are two seats available but the wait for a table is probably going to be around 45 minutes. We sat at the bar. I have to say; I'm not sure how I feel about the dueling pianos still being there from the previous restaurant but okay. They have a selection of unique coffees, lattes, and espressos. I had a Shot in the dark which is a dark coffee with a shot of espresso.... Pretty good! For breakfast, I had the Eggs Benedict.... It's your classic benedict with nothing unique about it but was also exactly what I expected. My wife had the Swiss Spinach and tomato omelet with cheesy grits and a biscuit. I have to say the biscuit was probably one of the best I've ever had! In fact, on my next visit I may have to order the egg sandwich just because it comes on one of their biscuits. However, I also saw the Deluxe French Toast go by to another table AFTER I ordered my benedict... Had I seen it before ordering, I would have ordered that... it looked fabulous! So on my next visit I may be faced with a dilemma. read more
