Toast is located at the former Rock and brew in Downey. I'll break down my experience Vibes and layout- ok. I went during a week day and not many people. However, the music was good and the bar is large. Side note, don't sit near the windows facing the outdoor patio during the summer. The heat comes and can make things a little uncomfortable. Service - Odd but good. I arrived and there wasn't a greeter. Then a bus boy (yup) told us where we can sit. From there, our waiter was quick and did a great job The food- Poor. I first ordered the wings as an app and enjoyed them. They were what you would expect. Then I ordered the chile verde chilaquiles. The Chile Verde was good, but the tortilla chips became way too soggy even before I could start eating. Eating a bowl of soggy food isn't the best experience. My last dish was the house Benedict. Unfortunately, the hollandaise sauce was over cooked and had a thick consistency almost like a soft scramble. Not great. Closing- Overall, a confusing experience. The menu seems to want to attract a younger demographic. They offer unlimited mimosas during the happy hour times. It sounds good, however the food was a let down. She came back maybe twice and each time we asked for refills of our drinks that she kept forgetting to bring. You can also use the Yelp waitlist to get on the waitlist before getting to the restaurant to minimize your wait time so that's what we did and we were seated a few minutes after we arrived. The inside is a super cute pink tropical theme which made it a very nice place for brunch. Their menu has a decent amount of items so there's definitely something for everyone. I got the chili verde ($21) which came with braised pork in a green salsa, rice, two eggs, and mini corn tortillas. Apparently an entire section of the breakfast or brunch menu was not available, even though it is normally available at that time (which was 11 AM). 2) They had a live DJ playing deafeningly club music which made it impossible to talk. At first, we were seated in the patio area where the DJ was and we asked to be moved inside. However, it was not better inside.
