Came here on a really early Sunday morning for breakfast with friends. Reservation slots fill up quickly so if you're looking to go around 11ish, get it when you see it. They don't seat you until all of your party arrives FYI so be prepared to wait. When I got there, the host was taking a to go order for a customer which was very weird and held up the line for a really long time since the guy didn't know what he wanted. In my opinion, that should've been the bar's job; not the host. The restaurant is only but so big and this blocks the door which is a safety hazard. And by that time, there 3 parties waiting to be checked in, including myself, while she did that. Did not like that at all. We were seated in about 20 minutes and fyi, the booths are small so if you're tall or of heavy weight, you may want to opt for a table instead to be more comfortable. It's been a while since I've been here and the last time, I got the salmon croquettes so this time, I got the catfish and grits with shrimp on top at the suggestion of our server. There was a small wait outside, so be sure to book your reservation in advance. There's no free seating. Even sitting at the bar requires a reservation. And the entire party needs to be present before they seat you. Anyway, the venue was pretty small. I'm a music person, so I loved the playlist they had in the background. As mentioned in previous reviews, it's not too loud so you are able to enjoy your conversation. To drink I went with an espresso martini , it was well made. And for brunch the southern fried catfish. The restaurant also enforces a timed dining limit, making the experience feel rushed. The biggest issue was payment: staff instructed us to download an app to pay but failed to disclose an added service fee. After the fee was added, we were still asked to leave a tip, resulting in what amounted to roughly 30-40% in combined fees and gratuity. That level of charge would be hard to justify even with excellent food and service--which was not the case here. Between the poor food, the order mistake, and the hidden fees, this felt less like dining out and more like being nickel-and-dimed at every step. Food was amazing! I got the salmon cakes. They were soft inside, crust was perfect on the outside and good portion and I just didn't disappoint, I left the onions and peppers because I don't do it. Toast on Lenox did NOT disappoint! We had a 4:00 PM reservation and got seated around 4:10-4:15, so not bad at all, especially for Midtown. Just a heads up, parking is a little tricky. We had to park down the street at a nearby lot (I think it was called Spice Me Up or something like that), and it was about $20. Now let's get into the FOOD... because wow. 10/10 across the board. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I will not be returning to Toast on Lenox Midtown The poor hospitality began as soon as we arrived. We were initially told there would be a 45 minute wait, but we were seated sooner than expected. Instead of asking whether we preferred indoor or outdoor seating, the host walked us past two available tables inside and seated us outdoors in an area being cooled by two large gymnasium style fans that were blowing hot air. We had to ask to be moved inside, and we were then seated at one of the same tables we had just walked past. Our waiter started off attentive, and my friend and I ordered drinks, the brisket skillet, and the apple French toast. The brisket skillet was good, and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill when I discovered a hair on my French toast. The staff quickly took the dish back and brought out a replacement, but the French toast was barely warm and almost cold. This made me question whether a new dish had actually been prepared or whether the original food had simply been rearranged on another plate. The situation became even more confusing when the owner later came out carrying another plate of French toast. At that point, I was unsure which plate was the original and no longer felt comfortable eating the replacement. I ultimately threw it away because I did not want to risk becoming sick. After our food arrived, our waiter became extremely difficult to reach. When we were ready to leave, we asked for the check to be split, and it took approximately 10 minutes just to receive the separate checks. Also, there was an excessive amount of flies inside. Overall, Toast on Lenox felt extremely overhyped and overrated. I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this place. I didn't hate it but I didn't fall in love with it either. I'd be willing to try it again but maybe something else. The inside is really small. It does have a bar top tho which is good to know. My friend and I got there a few minutes apart. They will not seat you if everyone hasn't shown up for your reservation, including just two guests. I'm a beer drinker but they don't have any beer or anything comparable. So I was adventurous and tried a Moscow mule thinking that would be alright. I was very wrong. The average mule has vodka and ginger. This one had bourbon and I could barely taste the ginger. I told the server I didn't like it and he informed me they can't take liquor back, so I'd still have to pay for it. I said that's fine but I can't get that drink down. He suggested I have it cut. So I agreed to that. It still wasn't for me but I was able to get it down now at least. I got the GA hot honey chicken but got the catfish instead of chicken. I also subbed the greens for macaroni. What I didn't know was there was a $5 charge to sub out the greens for macaroni. Had I known, I would've just added the macaroni since I was paying extra anyways. I was told the greens have stems and I personally don't care for stems in my greens when dining out because sometimes it's too much stems and not enough greens. The catfish was fried well and fresh but lacked seasoning for my personal taste. The macaroni was AMAZING. No complaints there. The sweet potatoes weren't cooked long enough. They needed another 20-30 minutes on the stove. The flavor was there but they weren't tender enough. I'm not sure if they're made like that regularly or just when I came. My friend got chicken and waffles. She enjoyed the wings and waffle very much. She also got the gumbo which she said was good but it was a little runny and came in a very small cup. Just had breakfast at the Midtown location of Toast on Lenox and I was very impressed. I ordered the chicken and waffles, and the fried chicken was some of the best I've had in a long time -- perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The waffle was excellent too, and they have a wide variety of toppings. Honestly, you could almost build something like a Cinnabon-style waffle if you wanted. Their honey hot sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with the chicken. The service was outstanding. Our server, Mimi, was a really nice young lady and took great care of us. It left us feeling like our comfort wasn't a priority. The interaction made us feel unwelcome, and the way we were treated was different enough that it raised concerns for us. Whether intentional or not, that's how the experience came across. When you're spending your money at a restaurant, you expect good hospitality, respect, and a comfortable dining experience.
