lu ro fan and sausage sticky rice
    Jin H.

There's really not enough Taiwanese restaurants in Irvine! Was having a serious lu ro fan craving so found Tofu King and was very satisfied with my experience. The lu ro fan is a pretty good portion for the price, was perfectly fatty with all the sauces dripping on top of the rice. Loved the tea egg and pickled veg addition, I'll come back for this dish! As for the other dishes, I ordered this sausage and sticky rice small dish, which I couldn't try because it had peanuts. It didn't have any mention of peanuts on the menu, so we told the waiter that but unfortunately he couldn't do much about it. It was okay though, the other sausage rice dish we ordered was pretty much a variation of the same ingredients and it was good.

Lowkey spot (I think?) in Irvine! Food was cheap and it tastes great to be honest. Popcorn chicken was really crispy and the minced meat cake that I got was super good. It was light and flavorful! Services were amazing! He was able to explain and recommended us some reallt great stuff. I would definitely come back

Came here for lunch with my non-Taiwanese friends -- it was their first time trying stinky tofu! The food was great, though we happened to visit on a warm day and the AC was broken. It would've been an even better experience if the room was cooler, but we don't mind coming back once it's fixed for a more comfortable visit. We ordered the stinky tofu (not as stinky as everyone expected!), braised pork rice, Taiwanese sausage, and pork chops -- my personal favorite. Everything was delicious! We wanted to try the oyster omelette too, but it wasn't available that day. Service was great -- the staff was friendly and attentive. The parking lot was quite full since the plaza was busy, so I'd recommend carpooling if you're coming with a larger group

Tofu king is an authentic Taiwanese food place that for me is considered as a soul food place. Me and my friend loves the food here, some of our must order are: fried stinky tofu (soosooooo good), the minced pork rice with braised egg also a must order, I love the meat ball and their sauce as well, my friend loves the sticky rice with sausage and she always order this. There are quite abit of different selections but every time we come it's hard to make decisions coz we want everything and of course we always end up over order! This is a mom and pop store very down to earth and the server was very polite, but the whole entire time we only saw one server for the whole restaurant including serving all the tables and prepping for to go order, it was abit hard for us to flag him down. Probably abit more help would be better. Highly recommend!

Obsessed with their fried stinky tofu, will drive to Irvine specifically for that dish. Other dishes also authentic and tasty, with a decent portion size for the price. Wasn't too busy when we went and service was fast.

    Yau-Ru C.

A bit disappointed because the signature stinky tofu wasn't really "stinky"...it was more just deep fried tofu. I haven't found any good stinky tofu places in OC yet...all pretty mild...still looking. The pork thick soup with rice noodle is ok. Needs a splash of black vinegar. Winter melon tea is super sweet so take a couple of sips and let the ice dissolve a bit to mellow out the sweetness. Staff is friendly. Just wish the stinky tofu had a bigger punch.

mushroom sliced pork rice with egg (no onions)
    Suzanne X.

Tried the mushroom sliced pork rice with egg (no onions) and some wonton soup to-go as well at a relatively decent price for the two dishes, however, the portion size is on the smaller side. Keep in mind we asked for no onions but the wonton soup didn't come with noodles, and had cilantro in it which was unfortunate. Not quite sure if there's another menu item with noodles. Nonetheless, both dishes still tasted great even though the egg was on the drier end and slightly on the greasier side but definitely would probably have to give other dishes a try. Location is in a busy plaza so sometimes parking may be tough to find, and since it's located near the corner with not a ton of space for parking, ended up finding some parking near the back side. If I get the chance to eat in, will have to see if the experience is any better than take out.

usually not a big fan of stinky tofu but this time i paired it with the pickled veggies and it wasn't bad! it was almost empty when we went at 7pm. super quiet and peaceful. service was fine! sometimes its nice when a restaurant isnt so crowded. I would love to try their lu rou fan next time, its one of my favorite taiwanese dishes :) squid thick soup w/ rice noodle: 7/10 taiwan style dry rice noodle: 7/10 boiled A vegetable: 8/10 stinky tofu: 7/10

Tofu King is the place to go for Taiwanese beef noodle soup in Irvine. I've been here twice over the past month and left very impressed both times. The broth is definitely the standout. The soup is so flavorful and delicious. The beef quality is also excellent, and the noodles do not disappoint. While the restaurant can get really busy and service is spotty, I would say Tofu King is well worth the wait.

Loved the pork and mushroom rice. It's the ultimate comfort food. Place was next to one of my favorite boba shops, so we checked it out. Food came out fast and hot and had lots of flavor.

Came here for dinner -- it's a large complex with plenty of food spots around. The place itself is simple and no-frills. Not many chicken options on the menu, but I ordered the pancake and the fried chicken with rice and veggies. Both were good and satisfying. Service was quick, and the staff were very friendly, young, and enthusiastic. Plenty of free parking available, which is a big plus.

They've definitely maximized the amount of seating in the place. The wait is relatively quick though. Service is quick friendly. Price is very fair for what you are getting and it's nice. Food wise, definitely get the porkchop rice plate. It's well cooked, seasoned and a good balance with some rice, noodles, veggies, and protein. I would pass on the braised pork rice. The pictures on the menu and on the displays made it look so appetizing, but what came out was just average and not like the pictures. Definitely fell victim to the in-store advertisements. The pork was okay, small portion, but I think it's fair for price. A lot of rice too. The popcorn chicken was also good, good amount of seasoning, well cooked. Portion size was a decent and good snack while you eat. Teas are also good. The black tea in particular is strong and has an herbal grass jelly taste to it, while the green tea is lighter and more refreshing. Good place to eat for a nice casual meal.

It's about time I reviewed them! My number one dish goes to the minced pork rice- it's a pretty simple dish, but it's sooo good here for some reason. I've ordered this dish at other Taiwanese restaurants and nothing compares to the one at A&J- the pork is always SO flavorful, never dry and enough to coat all the rice, the egg is perfection, and all the little garnishes compliment the dish so well. It's also just as amazing takeout which I always appreciate. Other go-tos are the spicy beef noodle soup- the beef in it is always so tender and I love getting the thick noodle option because of the rough texture it adds. Beef roll and pan fried dumplings are always a good option for sharing. Have tried a lot of things on their menu and nothing so far has disappointed!

This has long been our go-to for Taiwanese comfort food, and while the flavors weren't always 100% authentic, they hit the spot. However, our recent visits have been disappointing. The restaurant has become incredibly "penny-pinching" with their service. I was recently told there would be a $1 charge just for a sprinkle of scallions and another $1 for a small side of clear broth for my dry noodles--requests that were never an issue before. Furthermore, when we ordered extra noodles for my son's beef noodle soup, the original portion seemed intentionally smaller, defeating the purpose of paying for the add-on. Between the degraded service and the "nickel-and-diming" atmosphere, it is no longer worth the 30-minute drive. The vibe has changed, and the pleasure of dining here is gone.

(4/5) Spicy XLB they came out quick but I wished they were hotter they were just warm but delicious flavor and filling sadly was not spicy though no kick no heat at all. (3/5) Beef rolls nice and crispy lots of scallions and the cucumbers added a nice fresh aspect and crunch but needed more sauce. Bottom Line Up Front: If you love mala (the numbing and…read morespicy seasoning derived from Sichuan peppercorn and chili peppers), Six Alley will deliver the heat! The Food: As its name denotes, Six Alley Xi'an Biang Biang Noodle specializes in noodles, which is handcrafted in house. Ironically enough, I decided to have one of their burgers instead because that's such an unusual option. Though, I can attest that the noodles are delicious after having a taste of my friend's noodles. Now, back to my burger. I ordered the Cumin Beef RoujiaMo, which is stir-fried beef mixed with cumin and chilies and served on a crispy flatbread. It's listed on the menu under Asian burgers, which is actually inaccurate. After all, there's no lettuce, tomato, mayo, or any condiments that one would come to expect from a burger. It's more accurate to call it a "Chinese sandwich," which would help set the right expectations. Semantics aside, the Cumin Beef RoujiaMo was tasty. The meat was tender and the flatbread was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I quite enjoyed it. Just note, it is spicy! I asked the server how spicy and she said, "Mild." That's "Asian chili-lover mild," folks, not western mild. By American standards, it's more of a medium spice level. The Location: It's located in a small strip mall off MacArthur Boulevard near the 55 Freeway. It's not difficult to find, but it is difficult to find parking -- especially during peak hours on the weekend. To make matters worse, the parking stalls themselves are narrow. If you normally drive a large truck or a wide SUV, consider taking a sedan or smaller vehicle if you have one. The Service: For an Asian establishment, the customer service was surprisingly solid. I say this as an Asian myself; old-school Chinese restaurants are known for having employees with non-existent customer service. But this crew was young and understood that being friendly was essential for western restaurants. The staff didn't check up on us or offer exceptional service, but they were accommodating and knowledgeable when whenever I flagged them down. The Setting: Even though it's a smallish-medium restaurant, there's a decent amount of tables to accommodate a decent number of people at one time. It's clean and nicely decorated. However, the bathroom was another story. Sure, it had soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, but the back of the faucet was coming apart due to corrosion and it looked like the toilet bowl hadn't been scrubbed in months. Overall, a shocking sight considering how tidy the dining area was. The Conclusion: If you love spicy Chinese food, you'll love Six Alley. While I don't, the dish I had and the customer service was good enough for me to want to go back and try some of the other dishes. It was an enjoyable experience overall.

(Pretty sure it's just the owner) who was very friendly, but the other staff had a huge attitude, the girl who dropped off our side dishes dug her hands into the dishes to grab two at a time which was super unsanitary. She threw the last side dish on our table while she was walking away too. I wanted to be optimistic about the food even though the staff gave a terrible first impression. We ordered two soups. They were both super bland. My partner and I kept debating whether or not to ask for more salt because of the lack of seasoning in both of our meals. Even the side dishes were lacking flavor and looked like they were sitting out for a long time. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the kind lady (probably owner) of the restaurant. Everything else was a huge let down. I wanted to like the food here because there's a lot of good Korean restaurants in Irvine, and this could've been one of them but sadly it's not worth coming back.
