We spent about an hour and a half walking the beach in Morro Bay and decided to grab lunch. We originally tried Rose's Landing but couldn't find parking, so we headed to Dockside since I'd been there before. We had two hungry kids with us and were seated within a few minutes, which was great. Our waitress took our drink order (just waters) and our food order, then disappeared. She never came back to check on us. After about 45 minutes of watching other tables--who were seated after us--get their food, I finally got up to ask about our order. The hostess checked and said it had "just come out." The waitress came to grab it, walked out, then turned back again before eventually bringing it to our table. By the time the food arrived, it appeared cold. My daughter was so upset she refused to eat it, and honestly, we were beyond frustrated. With two hungry kids, including one crying, this was really disappointing. As we left, we explained what happened. Instead of an apology or an attempt to make things right, the situation felt dismissed. There was even a comment about someone needing to pay, despite the fact that we hadn't touched the food. I've worked in restaurants, and my daughter has waitressed--we understand delays happen. But being completely forgotten, with no apology or effort to fix it, is unacceptable. A simple acknowledgment and offer to remake the food would have gone a long way. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this experience ensures we won't be returning. read more

We got seated quickly at a nice rock View table. I was so excited to have a good meal out with my husband and kids. Right away the joy of the experience was stolen. Thee worst customer service ever. I wanted to leave right away but my husband said no. He ended up needing some sauce for his food and she was not happy about it and let us know, he then felt what I did. The clam chowder was very good. The oysters were good but when I asked if they could make some mignonette sauce she looked at me like I had grown an extra head. The fish and chips were ok, I'm used to a a crispy thick batter this place is like a weird thin breaded fish, for the price the 3 pieces were skimpy. read more

It breaks my heart to change my 5 Star review to a 3 star. For years this place has been one of my very favorites in Morro Bay. However, over the last 4-5 years the service and the food have considerably gone down in satisfaction rating for me... and for my family. The view is spectacular and one of the best. Most of the food choices are decent; variety of bisques, fish of the day, oysters, crab melt, and a few others. There are enough choices here that I will still continue to go back and find something to make my taste buds happy. I think my issue really isn't the food as much as it is the decline in friendly and efficient service. The wait is always awfully long, and that is to be expected from one of the most popular places along the water. But the service, once seated, is extremely slow, inaccurate, and uninterested. Where have all the good ones gone? That seems to be a question I ask myself a lot lately at restaurants and retail places. How hard is it to be friendly? Our orders have been consistently slow the past few years to the point of frustration. Again, if the service were slow and still friendly it would not be so bad, but the service attitude and enthusiasm meter is really low. I'm so sad to report this but I can't, in my right mind, have my spectacular 5 star rating hang there in all its glory when so many things are not 5 star anymore. I waited a long time to finally bump the stars down, sometimes it is just an "off night" but this has been a few years now, stars needed to be removed. I'm so sorry Dockside, I really am. So I'm hoping I'm doing the review on the correct location. This is the location that is near the street and next to the saltwater taffy store. For starters we came on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of parking which is always a plus. My husband's co-worker suggested this place. We were actually in Santa Barbara for the weekend and decided to take a drive up to Morro Bay which is absolutely breathtaking. It's about a 2-hour drive from Santa Barbara. Totally, worth it because we were able to see Solvang and Pismo Beach too. Getting back to the restaurant it is on the beach. Thank God there was no waiting and we were seated fast. We ordered the barbequed oysters, cheesy garlic bread, and popcorn shrimp for appetizers. I really didn't care for the barbecued oysters. My husband enjoyed his shrimp though. We both enjoyed the cheesy garlic bread and it was delicious. For our meal we ordered the seafood Captain platter and the shrimp and fries. The restaurant is in dire need of a makeover. We decided to try this place because in all of the times we visited morro bay we had never been. Food was terrible. The crab melt smelled spoiled. I tried to love this place but after the 3rd time dining here ending utter disappointment it's 3 strikes for me. This evening wasn't a very busy Friday in the off season. Ordered 3 meals - chicken Alfredo- huge miss. The chicken was so tough kids couldn't eat it, the whole dish was covered in burnt cheese and there were very few noodles and a lot of sloppy mess. Also ordered the halibut piccata which was tough and overly salty - my side was scalloped potatoes - cold AND burnt to a crisp HOW? Veggies were soggy and ice cold. My husband's meal wasn't any better he ordered the sole special- totally underwhelming but he won't complain. All 3 meals were cold. This isn't a cheap place to eat. They comped me one of the meals and gave a discount for the burnt side. I should've sent it all back and walked out but I was so hungry after a long day of hiking and travel. I could go into detail about the first two times I ate there but nothing really stood out that was good or bad just overpriced for whatever basic dishes were ordered. I went with the Fishin' Fool (two eggs as you like, country potatoes or fried polenta, toast or English muffin, with a choice of meat: bacon, ham or sauce - country, sweet Italian, or linguica). I chose eggs over easy, fried polenta, sourdough toast, and linguica (Portuguese sausage) that made for a really special breakfast! Upon entry into Tognazzini's Dockside Restaurant, we were pleasantly greeted with delectable aromas of the fresh, local seafood. However, almost instantly, all hopes we had of a quality date night were thrown out the window. Prior to our arrival, we had called to ensure that there was seating available for a party of two. We were told there would be no issue, but this was not the case. Despite our call, we ended up waiting nearly a half hour to be seated. Clearly, transparency falls behind on the Dockside list of priorities. After we were finally led to our table, we perused the menu in search of the delicacies we hoped for. That, we did find. The food itself, and the service alike, were superb. With each bite came deep yearning for another. But throughout the meal, something bitter remained present in our conscience. The disdainful lie that which was told tainted every fiber of our experience. We truly hope that the Tognazzini family takes the time to reflect on the promises they give. read more

Honestly one of the best meals I have had in a while. I started with a local beer and the salmon bisque, the salmon bisque has so much salmon and the flavor was fantastic. Next, I got bread and an olive plate. The bread was fresh and warm sourdough, the olives and pickles were a nice addition and added to the meal for sure. I got the grilled fish sampler, which came with four types of fish/scallops/shrimp, a couple sauces, and I chose the polenta side. The polenta was the most underwhelming aspect of my meal, but still crispy and good. The veg was tasty, but the fish was exquisite. You can taste the freshness and literally see the workers and fisherpeople at the dock a few feet away. Absolutely worth the price, the tartar sauce was also fantastic and the cocktail was good too. Recommend to anyone trying to experience delicious, local seafood. The guy who brought me my bread was very friendly and nice, the waitress I had definitely seemed tired as it was the end of dinner service, but still was quick with her service and polite. My cousin and I recently came here for dinner to celebrate our birthdays. It. Was. AMAZING. She ordered a seafood risotto (exact name unknown), and I ordered the Coast Guard Cobb salad with steak. While we were waiting for our food, our server brought us baskets of bread and butter whipped with chives, and antipasto plates with vegetables like olives, jicama, beets, and carrots. "I'm so excited," says my cousin, "I've never tried risotto." "What? You've never tried risotto?" "No, it's always too expensive. But you know what? It's my birthday. I'm gonna treat myself." Having grown up poor, and partially Italian, I found this hilarious. Risotto is basically just rice cooked in broth. Anyway, since she was ordering whatever she wanted, and I'd been craving a steak salad for weeks, I decided to go with that, and it turned out to be a wise decision. Not only was the steak cooked perfectly (medium rare, as I ordered it), but the salad was huge. We're talking spring mix, carrots, red onion, avocado, bacon, blue cheese, ranch, paprika spiced lemons, a slice of cheesy garlic bread, and most importantly, so much steak. Have you ever had a meal where neither one of you can stop talking about how good your food is, and all other conversations just fade away? This was that meal. As we were finishing our food, a man with a very thick Italian accent stopped to comment on how many pictures we were taking of our food. "It's my birthday!" said my cousin, excitedly, "Of course I'm going to take pictures!" "Happy birthday!" He said. As he walked away, my cousin said, "What do you think that accent was? Australian?" I said, "Are you serious?" She said, "What? No? Russian?" (My Italian comes from my mom's side, and this cousin comes from my dad's side.) Back at the house the next morning, as my cousin described her food to our aunt, she interrupted to ask, "What's risotto?"
