I had the spicy tuna roll that was quite flavorless (it's SPICY tuna for goodness sake!) and a couple pieces of mediocre sushi. The Sushi is great here and I love the decor- but the other food was poor. I would only go here for sushi. The spicy beef was chewy, and had no taste- The service was ok- there was definitely a language barrier between my party and the waiter. When it came time to ask for a to-go box they did not understand. The sushi, on the otherhand was great! Three of us arrived at 4:30pm on a thursday night for an early dinner and the restaurant was completely empty aside from 1 couple sitting at the sushi bar. The restaurant has plenty of seating including 5 tea rooms. We asked if we can sit in a tea room and the waitress rudely said no because we don't have enough people even though there was literally no one in there. Then she called over a co worker and after gossiping about us they again reused us a tea room- not the first time this happened. Cute little Japanese restaurant, somewhat hidden in the Deer Park mall over near the theater. We were a little rushed considering we a bit under an hour to get in & out. Waitress was very nice & friendly. Props to her after we ordering a combo & didn't realize until it came to our table that it included nigiri, which my boyfriend didn't want, so we asked if we could substitute it for maki rolls. She spoke with the chef & did the exchange. We felt really bad, but I guess everyone makes mistakes. Sushi was pretty good, but I think costs a little more than your average sushi dish. Highly recommend! First I loved the ambience, had an upscale yet cozy feel that felt authentic. Service was great, very professional and prompt. Most importantly, the food was outstanding! We had the beef asparagus appetizer which was cooked perfectly. We tried four different sushi dishes, monster, Godzilla, crunch delight, and Amazon were all so good I couldn't decide which one was best! Drinks and dessert were yummy as well. I sat at the bar tonight and the service was good. I ordered the Amazon roll and it was great! Service was pretty bad. Waited 10 min for my server to bring the check. Decided to check this place out on a Thursday after an afternoon movie with a friend. Loved all the beauyiful dark wood decor. I had a wonderful glass of the 2012 Mason Sauvignon Blanc which went perfectly with the sashimi combo. The combo had 3 LARGE pieces each of several different fish plus a couple of surf clams which I had never tried before. I am now a surf clam devotee! My friend enjoyed the miso soup that came with my combo and she shared her cucumber salad, which was nicely crispy and tart. My meal came to $50 with tax and generous tip for our excellent server. I wish my husband liked sushi so I could visit Tokio more often but I will definitely be back with the girls! read more

The sushi at Tokio Sake is hands down the best in the area. They have the food part down cold, never a complaint there. Well done Tokio Sake. Service on the other hand could be better. The staff is very nice, they're just so....very.......slow....... Usually I wouldn't be terribly bothered, but when you come in to eat with two small children and have to wait ten minutes to order drinks, let alone food, it tends to pose a problem. It's like this every time we've been there, even if there are only two other tables. Also, the tables on the main floor are very close together. I can't take my 5 yr old to the bathroom without bumping a chair or table on the way there and I'm not even a large person. The seating poses a problem if you bring kids with. It just does. It's a very tight situation. I can always hear what the person at the next table is saying and so can my kids, the seating is that intimate. This can lead to very awkward questions from my little ones. I would suggest saving the main floor tables for couples and put people with kids in the alcove seating or by the windows. That will keep kids contained while they anxiously await ordering and help keep parents calm. I know the staff doesn't like to use the alcove seating very often, but when we are a party of four and we are paying $80 + for a meal, I think an alcove is warranted. I'm sure the other patrons would appreciate it too. read more

Thursday night visit. Restaurant was not too crowded and we were seated and served right away. The bar has a creative martini selection and drinks were soon rolling. The server was very attentive and friendly and provided helpful opinions on appetizers and entries. Overall we had a fine birthday celebration feast. The bill for four of us was in the low $300 range. Considering the level of drinking, the tab wasn't out of line. We will be back. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in. The decor was clean yet plain and had a great sushi bar. For being in the mall, the food was pretty good. Our server even gave us 2 specialty rolls on the house. We were definitely over dressed; most people in the restaurant were under 20 and in shorts and tee shirts. Wasn't bad by any means, but nothing just out of this world. We had a spicy california, spicy tuna and the orange dragon rolls. The orange dragon roll was really good- fresh salmon on top of a shrimp tempura style roll. The girls had a kids orange chicken bento box, and for the price ($7.95) it was a LOT of food for one kid, and our two 6-yr olds shared and still had food left. They were completely empty when we arrived (Sunday around 1pm), and were really busy by the time we left (2-ish). The service was good compared to other sushi spots, and we would definitely return. Average roll is $12-15, but they do have the basic california rolls for $6. read more

Tried it for the first time. The waiter was slow and very cold. The lighting was so dim it was almost dark in the restaurant and bathroom. We ordered soup, salads, appetizers and misc. rolls. I would say 80% of the food was delicious. I will not go back due to mostly the lighting. Although I know it's common to have dim lighting in a Japanese restaurant, this was out right uncomfortable. It made me feel edgey like they are trying to close and dimmed the lights. That wasn't the case because we were there with 7:00pm reservations. I really wanted to enjoy this place better. read more

Don't get me wrong! If I were rating the sushi, 5 stars all the way! But the service.... Usually there aren't too many customers in the restaurant, and the service is quite fast. Though occasionally there will be around 7 customers in the store, and then it slows. It drops the speed from about 15 minutes to 45 minutes. read more

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant along with my friends. First of all, nobody was at the host stand when we walked in and we had to wait a good minute before we were even greeted. Our server Chris was ok. He had a little attitude though... my friend was asking him questions about the menu and he gave her a dirty look like she was stupid. We just let that go because we are not confrontational people and we just assumed he was having a bad day. Onto the food... the sushi is the only good thing about this place. The appetizers and entrees are too overpriced for the quality of the food. There are a lot of restaurants out there that serve better food for more reasonable prices. I had the Garlic Beef with fried rice and wasn't impressed at all. The fried rice was repulsive. I had to ask for plain white rice because I couldn't eat their fried rice. I tried some sushi off of my friend's plate and was convinced maybe this restaurant wasn't a complete flop. If you guys are anal about clean glasses, silverware, etc... this isn't the restaurant for you. I don't know how they clean their cups and silverware or if they do at all. The guy behind us was complaining to the manager because he was given a glass with a lipstick mark on it. All in all, I don't think I'll ever be going back to this place. If you don't like sushi... I don't think its even worth stepping foot into this place. I say save your money for better food and better service. read more

This has become my favorite place to eat. The Sushi is fabulous with a great selection, and fun presentation. The non-Sushi menu is also very good, so you can bring your friends who don't endeavor into the Sushi world. Relaxed atmosphere, yet you still feel like you are "out" for the evening. Ownership and staff are the friendliest, I have been there four times in the last month, and I will be there a lot more. Wow okay so where do I start? So, the first time I went to Tokio Sake was the month after the restaurant opened (I think in 2008?). Truthfully, I did not have the best experience back then. Before it was havoc, waiters flying everywhere, a hovering manager, a simple (not exciting) menu, and a long wait for food. My friend the other week suggested Tokio Sake for dinner before the movies. I automatically protested against because of my previous event. She told me that I must had been thinking of a different restaurant because her experience was the exact opposite. I dreaded the thought of going back to this restaurant but my friend was so insistent that I followed her there anyway. When I got there the place felt completely different, more sophsicated? There was no creepy guy manager, but friendly waiters. The menu had change a lot since the last time. There was "special makis" available which the restaurant created and a lot more variety. My friend and I ordered one appetizer which was the golden shrimp (at the waiters recommendation). IT WAS TO DIE FOR! amazing. I couldn't believe this was the same place. We ordered one special maki and then some sashimi. The fish was very fresh that it practically melted in your mouth. Oh, and they apparently get shipments of different fish on different days so our waiter told us what the freshest fish was.One part that I found interesting was how the fish was plated. All the plates were different shapes, sizes, and colors. I was super pleased with my new found experience and will definetey be visiting again! read more

Our favorite place for Sushi. The atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing and so conveniently located in Deer park. Great for before a movie, after shopping or as it's own destination. The owner, Julia is gracious, kind and always smiling. Her staff is incredibly polite and eager to make the experience enjoyable. I love sitting at the sushi bar but I also love the table set-ups. The food is outstanding. So many diverse choices, everyone is happy. My sons don't care for sushi, my daughter and I love it, but they love the meat entrees and the plethora of appetizers and the Japanese fizzy soda is a treat. The shumai, golden shrimp, asparagus beef rolls, all the cucumber salads, the tuna nachos...all my favorites. The rolls are delicious - the cherry blossom is my all time favorite - and I love how they separate them in the menu by spice (heat) level. All the entrees we've had when we can tear ourselves away from the rolls have been outstanding. There is a Korean meat and rice bowl dish that I cant remember the name but wow was it amazingly good. Desserts - if you have even a corner of space in your belly go for it. The chocolate desserts and the mocha balls make you close your eyes and smile.... The quality of the seafood, the meat, all of it is top notch. In fact - jumped online to get the phone number to call for a reservation and thought - I need to let everyone know how great this place is. Enjoy! read more

Not a huge fan of tokio sake. I went here with a friend for sushi and we both ordered a few rolls. My california roll tasted fishy. I also had the scallop roll and that tasted even more fishy.. I'm a frequent sushi eater I would say I go out for sushi 2x/week at least and this sushi just tasted pungent, this place does not use fresh fish. And for the prices they are asking for gourmet rolls, we're talking 18-22 dollar rolls, the fish should be out of the water fresh. Really disappointed -_- read more
