Great food and ambiance, had the Tokio Volcano which was tasty. A little pricey, but good quality. Green Tea ice cream is awesome with great Green Tea flavor and a buttery undertone, only complaint is that they would not sell a big take-home container of the ice cream, and were coy in revealing what distributor sells/makes it. It's hard to find good green tea ice cream, Trader Joes used to carry Gelatto Classico Green Tea ice cream, but no longer, and that was awesome. read more

Took my friend out to Tokio for a last lunch before a big surgical procedure today. The place was not jumping for lunch, that's for sure; maybe had 15 people in there, including us. There was only one server so the hostess/owner was helping her out. We were starving so I went balls out and got the Take lunch special while my friend opted for the Momotaro special and a Ebi roll. I would like to point out that they use plastic reusable chopsticks-I learned today that I am not a fan of plastic chopsticks. I was having a horrible time trying to get a grasp on stuff with them. While the food was really good, it took forever to come out. The fish was fresh and delicious, but we were there longer than anticipated for our lunch hour. This is more of a place to take your time to enjoy so be forwarned. Also, they forgot to get my friend her Ebi roll, so she took it to go and they didn't charge us for it. I've dined at several sushi restaurants across Illinois and I must say that I was very impressed with this restaurant. Some restaurants tried to prepare sushi for me as quick as possible which didn't end up looking too great. The chefs in this restaurant really make an effort to serve you as quickly as possible but they put 100 percent of dedication in preparing the food. The menu selection is great and I never get bored of trying a new roll at this place. The employees here are very friendly and they keep the restaurant clean. My friends also told me that their carryout service is quick. I will definitely be returning to dine here in the future. read more

Enjoyable lunch for 3 today. Nice environment. Not crowded. 3 lunch specials: 2 combo sushi, nigiri, and soup, and one chicken teriyaki. Sushi combos were fine and fairly priced. It is an OK Sushi restaurant. The fish was very fresh, always a good start :) I prefer a good amount of rice with my Nigiri (the fish should rest on the rice) and each piece I had here was a small ball of rice that was dwarfed by the fish. Perfect service--attentive, listened and made recommendations based upon our personal preferences and what they had fresh or unique. Refreshing sake-tini-mixed and garnished with cucumbers; we had edamame, tempura shrimp, unagi, himache, sashimi, ame ebe, sweet egg and miso soup all fresh and delicious. My first time going to a Sushi place and not ordering sushi. I actually made up my own dish with sweet and spicy scallops rather than shrimp as it states on the menu. It was exactly what I was looking for taste wise. The salad before the meal was great and I enjoyed the dressing. I had to take away a star because they didn't have everything in stock that was on their menu and the waitress was slow to refill our water glasses on a very warm and humid day. We had a birthday dinner reservation. The reservation didn't seem to matter, we waited an extremely long time. A similar party that had arrived after us got seated first. The owner comped us free appetizers and dessert to try to make up for the service. She was a sweet lady. The staff was overworked, and service was slow. Luckily the food was all delicious. Extremely rude staff and incredibly slow service. Ordered two of the same maki to start and only received one. Figured the other was on the way and when it didn't show up, I asked about it, to which they replied, "you didn't order two." I explained I definitely had and if they could bring me some edamame in the meantime, I would be fine waiting for the second one plus another I had decided on. They said that would be fine, but that they were sure I had ordered only one maki initially. I reminded them I know what I ordered and asked them to just please get order in. Upon walking away to do so, I heard them say, "you would have had it already if you had ordered it." I called them back to the table, canceled the order and told them to bring me my check as I was done dealing with them and ready to leave. They tried to get me to stay and when I told them I would never be back, they acted shocked. The Whole Foods down the street from them has sushi to go that you can eat there, which is just as good in my opinion. read more

I dined there last night with some friend. Considering the price the sushi was good but not great. We ordered the spicy tuna with avacado and received spicy tuna with cucumber. Then the waitress brought us a sliced avocado on a plate and apologized. At that price she should have brought us what we ordered. The cucumber salad was good. Since I eat gluten free I asked for wheat free tamari. The waitress had not idea what I was talking about. For the price I would rather eat at PL8 in Barrington. For great , well priced sushi I will stick with Kobe East. read more

I almost always call ahead of time and get my sushi to go, so I can't comment on the staff or the restaurant itself, but the sushi is phenomenal every time. I constantly make up excuses to eat here, and it's my favorite sushi place in the area by far! read more

I went here for the first time for lunch with my daughter. The place was quiet since it was lunch. She had the childrens' menu B and I had the box lunch with sesame chicken, salad, miso soup, california rolls, fruit, rice, cucumber salad, and tempura. I wasn't sure what to expect but I thought it was delicious. The waiter was very polite. No one hovered. No one shouted. It didn't smell like wood polish. I think those kinks have been worked out. We thought the decor was really lovely. It reminded us if Epcot Japan-land. I certainly didn't expect it to look so nice inside. I'm not a sushi critic, so I don't know if it wasn't as it should have been, but I have had sushi before and this was just as good and it was fun and different. And going at lunch meant we got the same food as dinner but at a much lower price. We'd go again! read more

My wife and I tried this for a late lunch and we were impressed. Our waiter, Tony, was attentive, friendly and professional. We had the Deep Fried Tofu as an appetizer, she had the Beef Bulgogi while I had the Chicken Teriyaki for entrees. The taste, quality and presentation of all three dishes was excellent. I am embarrassed that I have not written a review of this restaurant yet this year. There was a time when this restaurant had respect for the perpetration of their cuisine. Yes, you ask why do you go back? I'll tell you why because Sake in Lake Zurich is not open on Monday nights. Tonight I was appalled at the level of the owner or mangers response to poor quality of food. He nodded and said "thank you " after my family expressed the disappointment in the quality of the food.! The server was amazing!!!! I hope he finds his way to a good respectable restaurant. We will never go back there or recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you read this and dismiss it I totally I get it. Good luck if you go there. Expect to pay twice as much for half the quality. Oh, but you will have pleasure of someone nodding their head and saying thank you no matter what you think. read more
