Never really cared for this restaurant being that I dined there many times just because I shop at Americana often & it's also in my neighborhood BUT my last visit was definitely a deal breaker for me. The manager MAURICIO or whatever his name is should NOT be the manager & has 0 customer service experience for a fine dining establishment like toku. Maybe I'll return again once he's fired. Fabulous meal from start to finish! Great hospitality, beautiful atmosphere. Wish I took more pictures of the apps we ordered but this Sesame Crusted Tuna and Peking Duck seemed to be left out of the food photos on yelp and I am not sure why this tuna should be one of their most popular dishes it was so delicate and flavorful a new culinary experience for me! The sesame crust and crispy things on top (not sure what they were) complimented each other beautifully (its a small dish so I recommend ordering two for the table or def ordering I side of fried rice and/or noodles with it) The Peking Duck had crispy flavorful skin and the duck was moist I love how it was presented and came with an incredible plum sauce I couldn't get enough of. This place was recommended by a friend and I have to say it was a hit. Given their 3.5 star review you would think service or the food was bad but that wasn't the case. Our appetizer, drinks and dinner was all great came out in a timely fashion and the service matched it. They didn't check in too much or too little it was just right. The reason for my 4 star is due to the lack of vegetarian or pescatarian options for the soups and the Price is a little high but again is worth it. I would definitely come back to try something else on the menu and hopefully by then they'll have a soup option for someone like me :) read more

Great vibe , if you find yourself at the Americana this is my second fave restaurant to eat at the Americana. Cipollini being the first. Great sushi here as well as great cashew chicken. Have had the steak in mustard sauce as well as the toku fries and the fried rice with the huge egg on top . Everything we have ordered here is always delicious. Honestly - food is sub par but the ambiance and experience is worth checking out at least once. We tried it all but the must have are the lobster risotto and filet of beef - neither Asian but very delicious. The tuna pizza was good as well with the truffle oil. The pork in the fried rice tasted old but the rice itself wasn't too bad. The Kobe and wagyu dishes were gamey which should not be for these kinds of meat, totally not worth it. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the staff was very attentive. I think for an Asian-inspired, American restaurant - they did good and it was a complete full house. I finally made it to TOKU!!!! Lunch specials galore! The space is spacious and brightly lit and clean and modern looking. Very happy with the atmosphere. A Friday lunch for my boyfriend and I Started off with a geisha roll which was lovely. Then we ordered a bento box lunch special and an order of the angry chicken. Which was poached chicken, pad thai noodles, cucumber, cilantro, spicy sauce. This item is listed under the POULTRY section but it's mostly noodles .. I consider it a noodle dish.. not a chicken dish. Nonetheless it was delish and comes room temperature. My favorite part of the bento box was the sea bass which was cooked perfectly and delicious!!! Hellllllo high society sushi goers... I've been in here a few times, drinks and dinners.. I've actually loved the food and have ordered a bunch of stuff each time I went ... the worst thing about this place is the wait and the bartenders are def a little snippy... rightfully so, the place is busting at the seams with a bunch of "high rollers", plastic looking people, and the very old mixed with the very young; I ain't mad at that! LOL. Loved their salmon tartar, jumbo prawns, fried rice and the short rib... all perfect for sharing... I went with 3 other ladies and we were full with all of the stuff we ordered... the lobster risotto was definitely on the soupy side.. Risotto sitting in broth basically but it still had really good flavors and the lobster pieces were huge and cooked to perfection so that made up for the lack of consistency... we still enjoyed it though.. the food is definitely good here; like I said the worst part is the wait and dealing with people who are kinda rude but they're dealing with hangry people so I'm sure they have to set their limits too. Toku is always a great spot for its ambiance and vibes. Classy decor, amazing service, great location. This place should get a 5 but something always makes it just a little off. Usually the sushi here is amazing and the food is alright. This most recent time I went, i enjoyed the food more than the sushi. The Crispy Rice is still hands down one of their best appetizers. The sliders are all right. The Soy Sesame chicken was much better than it's ever been and was the highlight of the dinner. The sushi was good but not amazing. Toku has done better. I still reccomend going here just because of the overall experience. read more

I'm so disappointed in my experience at toku last night. I love toku & their food but yesterday our entrees were just not at the quality we're usually used to. We come here all the time but after yesterday I will not be coming here again & will be letting everyone know of my experience here. So here's the story: We didn't like our entrees & the entire time the bus boy was eyeing us down to take our plates since we weren't eating it. We were waiting for the waiter but since the bus boy asked us multiple times if we were done I finally told him "we didn't like it but if you want to take it sure" we assumed he would do his job & tell his peer (our waiter) that we barely touched our food. Our waiter finally came over & asked if we wanted any dessert & we said no ty, immediately we got the check when we didn't even ask for it. The check included the entrees we barely touched. Everyone knows if you come to toku you can expect to bare minimum spend 3-400 at dinner so we never have a problem spending money here but they expected us to pay for food we didn't like. I go out to eat all the time & do promos for businesses all the time & I have never in my life been to a restaurant that has tried to charge me for food I didn't like. Nonetheless I requested a manager to come over & I explained that we didn't like the food & we were still going to have drinks so he said "well see what we can do". We had more drinks & then the final check came which still had the food we didn't consume so basically the manager did absolutely nothing nor did he bother to even come back to tell us he wasn't adjusting the bill. So when the final check came we told the waiter that he didn't take out the entrees & the waiter proceeded to tell us that he wasn't going to take it off & that the bus boy had told them that we ate most of it which was a complete lie. Then the waiter proceeded to tell us we should've told him, that now it's a she said he said situation... like why would I tell them I didn't like the food if I did? The purpose of going out to eat is TO EAT. Then he told us "can you just pay the check so we can get this over with" lol we were literally baffled & I told him no & to get the manager back over. A different manager came to the table & basically asked us what we didn't like about the food & then told us he wasn't going to take it off that we should've told him from the start. Mind you we explained that the bus boy was insisting on taking our plates, he was eyeing us down the entire time so he took the plates & I let him know "we didn't like it" he then told me that the bus boy probably didn't understand & I'm not sure how that's supposed to be my fault. If I knew he only spoke Spanish then I would've told him in Spanish. So he said well we're not taking it off your bill & I said well we're not paying for the entrees we didn't eat & he told us he was going to call the cops so we waited. The waiter came back to harass us for the check & I said well the manager said he was calling the cops so we're waiting for the cops. Keep in mind we have a newborn & came out for dinner because it's been a rough week & all we wanted was good dinner & service. Little did we know that we were going to get threatened with the cops because we didn't like the food they served us. They kept questioning us about the food, why we didn't like it, why we didn't tell them, why this & why that. After a while the cops never came but the manager returned & said you know what since you have a baby we won't call the cops lol which I had absolutely no problem with the cops coming. I also told them to check the cameras because there was one right over us so they could've easily seen the interaction with us telling the bus boy we didn't like the food & how much we consumed. Once they corrected the check we paid the check and were discussing how much tip we should leave the waiter if anything because he treated us like criminals in a upscale restaurant! I guess if you aren't white in this place you can't dislike food or send it back cause they'll think you can't afford it. The waiter came back & said I just want to make sure you didn't want to leave any tip & I grabbed my bag & said actually I did want to leave you tip & he's like well hurry up because I have to go lol so I kindly put my purse down & told him actually go ahead & go home cause with that attitude you or toku will never get my money or business again. we go to cippolinis every Sunday and they would never treat us that way so it's surprising to know that they work under the same management. i will be reaching out to a higher up to discuss my terrible experience. I never felt so embarrassed & low. the amount of business we have given these businesses to get treated that way just because we didn't like our food. it's tasteless read more

The place is basically where you go if you want covid-19. They welcome large gatherings and offer indoor seatings. I'm not complaining, just speaking objectively. It's not like I walked out the door when I saw the crowd without masks lol. I'm 22 and fit as a fiddle. Don't come here if you're high risk. The service is good, but I'm leaving the one star because they have a time limit of 1 hour and 30 mins. My friend and I only ordered drinks because we didn't want to be rushed or take our food home. Decor: beautiful. Love the little chopstick holder rock. Interesting skylights. Packed that night with tons of people watching. Service: very good. Always someone refilling your water or checking on your drink level. Obligatory birthday singing and pyrotechnics. Food: very tasty - not terribly authentic. But let's be honest, most people probably don't really want genuine Asian cuisine, but rather the Americanized version. The rock shrimp tempura is a can't miss. Crispy calamari salad is quite fresh and good. Spicy tuna is always kind of on the dryish side, but is a good dip for the fried wonton cups. Short ribs is a good chunk of meat but the noodles are just ... sad. Limp and lightly flavored. But the place reminded me of the joys of ice cold Sapporo light beer. I called a day before to make a reservation and the person who picked up instantly knew who I was, maybe by caller ID or because I made reservation there before. It was a nasty rainy Monday and one of my friends did not want to eat inside because of the pandemic, so I was trying to find a place for us outside. He instantly said more than likely depending on the weather. We picked 430pm for the reservation. My 2 buddies got there on time, and I got there 30 mins later. Jake greeted me as the host and the are all professional in the attire and demeanor. Jake has a great friendly approach and we chatted briefly. We went over to the table where my buddies were seated in the back. Quite frankly. Still not used to the spread out design of pandemic 2020. The tables are seriously social distanced and I wondered about the differences pre covid where I would enter into a jammed packed restaurant. The bar although at capacity, had these plastic dividers which separated everyone there. I thought it was a clever idea. As I sat down, my buddies had already ordered our most favorite appetizers. The rock shrimp tempura, pork rice and the crispy calamari salad. Being that I drove a long way, I ordered a mango martini. It is not sweet but it is quite nice. For me, its so good, it makes you want to drink it all in one time than to savor it. I had to control myself not to finish it. One if my buddies got sushi and I ordered the Kobe beef carpaccio. They serve it raw with sesame seeds adorned on it and a garlic soy vinaigrette. They bring out a Japanese style mini searing apparatus that looks very appealing and you can sear the beef to whatever way you like. I barely leave it on so it remains quite tender. Also ordered the half Hoisin duck and we just gorged. Maggie, our server, was super sweet and professional. Because of her we ordered dessert. The one thing we missed was the Chinese sausage fried rice which was aa favorite of ours. Hope they get it back after the pandemic ends. I waited. waited and waited. Finally I asked for one. They sent a soup spoon. My friends all got the soup spoons for theirs - I'm wondering maybe they use the same spoon for dessert? Tokyo is an upscale restaurant appropriate for special occasions -- the prices are steep but the food is good. South Beach Roll (hamachi) makes a nice appetizer. The Skirt Steak is nice as well but for $33+ should come with a side of rice. Lychee Martini is strong but delicious. read more

I was torn between giving this 3 stars or 4 but I went with 4 because some of their dishes are just outta this world. This is a pretty good upscale Asian spot. Parking is very easy to find and they even have valet service if you don't feel like looking for a spot. The decor of this restaurant is very nicely set up. The inside is a nice intimate dark but sometimes loud setting but is Deff a good look. The menu is a bit pricey but like I said some of the dishes are absolutely worth it. Now sometimes the staff can be a bit slow and mess a few things up which has happened on numerous trips here but more often than not they are busy so I went ahead and gave them the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars. So we made an open table reservation When we arrived it was decently packed but not too crazy for 130 in the afternoon... When we came to the hostess station we told the gentleman we had a reservation and he said my name 2 times so naturally you think he "checked me in" via the computer.. Food came out fairly prompt i ordered the maki lunch sushi meal. It came with choice of 3 maki type rolls. Was a little disappointed that these were very "basic rolls" i choose eel avocado, king crab roll and spicy tuna... For some reason i feel like i have had better sushi. I really enjoyed the salad they gave you a great portion nicely dressed! When we left i told my bf could he just check the app to make sure they applied the open table points. It wasnt applied so he called (since i was driving) to inquire if it takes awhile for them To apply the points as i havent had this problem in the past at other establishments. The phone rang a good 3 times before a young lady by i think the name amanda answered. This restaurant in the Miracle Mile shopping center has decent food, but funky service. They are currently offering indoor and outdoor dining, and thank god I had an outdoor table because their indoor dining was not abiding by any capacity restrictions - it seemed like it was as packed as ever. Unfortunately, they do not let you specifically reserve an outdoor table, though they did note it down on our reservation and we were lucky to have an outdoor table ready as soon as we arrived. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful. The food was better than average, but nothing to rave about. For appetizers, the crispy rice was fairly good, but the tuna spring rolls were a let down. They were more like cigars and they had a weirdly sweet taste to them - I would not get those again. As for the sushi, the tuna avocado roll was good. I had a specialty roll that had salmon, tuna, and asparagus and while it was pretty decent, IMO they stuffed way too much into each piece such that the pieces were no longer comfortably bite sized. One strange thing that happened was that once the main course of sushi was served, I noticed that one of the rolls on my plate was incorrect. This was after I poked around in it with my used chopsticks to determine that it was not what I had ordered. I let the server know, and he took my entire plate (with all of my other rolls that were correct and that I had already started eating) back to the kitchen for them to replace the one roll. This left my family with all of their food and me with nothing. I also did not appreciate my food being walked around the restaurant more than it needed to be, given that they were not enforcing mask use of other guests. This decision also did not make sense because it's not like they can give someone else that roll that I already touched with my used chopsticks (at least I hope they didn't do that!).
