    Fried boneless bento box
    Jeremy S.

We ate a late lunch at Tokyo Chick during the weekend. I ordered the fried boneless chicken bento ($18.73 after tax). You order at a kiosk, and the cashier provides you your meal on a tray at the front. You can check in on Yelp for a free nightlight or dessert. My food came to me quickly (about 5-10 minutes). The bento gives you vegetables, pickled vegetables, an egg, one piece of gyoza, and rice. They spread the sauce on the chicken, but I wish they cooked the chicken with the sauce to give it more flavor. The chicken still tasted very delicious with its tenderness on the inside and savory breading. The bento portion is large, but one little thing I noticed was that although they add pickled vegetables, you can still serve yourself the same thing. You can also get your own sauce to try out different flavors. The ambience is definitely cute. They have Tochi in front of their restaurant for pictures. I love how its expression is just a blank stare. As for parking, they don't validate. I parked at the Paseo Colorado for $12. The antique shop nearby validates for 90 minutes. I'm not sure how the prorated parking fee worked, but I still paid the $12 daily maximum despite the validation barcode I received on my ticket.

I very nice fried chicken place in Pasadena. I loved that their chickens were really crispy. Not sure how they did it but it was still crispy on the second day of refrigerator. The dessert was very good too. It's jelly with fruit boba. The price was great for the amount and flavor.

Really amazing chicken available in combos and bento boxes made super transportable. The chicken was tender and in a generous portion, and all the sides were solid. The service took a minute and everything came out hot and fresh. Most people come in and order to go so there's a lot of hustle and bustle. If you're near the convention center and want something fast, this is a solid choice.

We don't come by Old Town Pasadena too often so when we stopped by Tokyo Chick, we went all out on our ordering: * 6 pc garlic soy wings combo with fountain drink ($15.49) * katsu curry bento box ($15.49) * spicy chicken sandwich ($9.49) * spam musubi ($3.99) * katsu musubi ($4.99) * spam and tamago musubi ($4.99) For $1.50 more, I upgraded the fountain drink in the wings combo for their specialty drinks -- I tried their honey green tea. My favorites out of the order were the spicy chicken sandwich (it's HUGE!!) and all of their musubis. They have around three booths and a long counter for indoor seating. If you come during a busy time, it'll be easier to take to-go. Make sure to check in on Yelp for a free chick night light. Parking can be a challenge in Pasadena. I like coming after 6 pm for the free meters (look around the city hall area for open spots).

The fried chicken was very good! They had potatoe wedges which were perfectly fried. I prefer the plan chicken and just getting sauce for others who want it sauced. Just the plain fried chicken itself was already very tasty. I checked in and got their cute little mascot. Adorable little light. The service was great. Everyone was very polite. Food came out piping hot! We order to go, and it smelled amazing!

A perfect fry on their fried chicken! Crispy and not oily. Yum! They seem to make the chicken to order so it can take a little while for your food to be ready. It's worth the wait. I'd rather have freshly fried chicken than a quick greasy bite. The steamed veggies and pickled radishes are a nice complement to the chicken. Helps to cut the saltiness. Lost a star because it's not a big place and isn't the most comfortable when dining in on a busy Saturday.

I read another Yelpie's review on Tokyo Chick and saw their photos. I was amazed so I had to check them out. I came here on 2023 New Year's Eve. Surprised to see they were going to open for 24 hours due to New Year's Day Pasadena Rose Parade. Thank you for their support! Staff was super friendly and nice. I believe one of them was the owner himself. I could have used the kiosk to order, but I didn't. I walked up to the counter to order instead. The nice lady was kind to answer my questions and offer some food recommendations. Thank you! I got the 6 piece signature crispy wings + wedge fries + upgrade to homemade drink for $1.50 more (free refills). Price was reasonable. With my Yelp check-in, they gave me a free dessert (mixed jelly)... this was so yummy! Thank you! Wings were of good size and incredibly delicious... it was crispy and had a good crunch... it did not have that oily taste whatsoever. Chicken was moist, but I noticed most of the bones were already broken in half when I took my first bite. I guess it doesn't matter since I'm not eating the bones, but just thought that was interesting. Wedge fries were good, but I wish they were a little bit more crispier. As for the homemade drink, I chose the honey green tea... very light and refreshing. The other 2 homemade drink options are lime yuzu and strawberry lemonade. I also ordered some bento boxes, more chicken, and more mixed jelly to-go. Got the katsu with curry, yuzu wings, and chicken curry bento boxes. Each bento box comes with various sides such as white rice, pickled carrots and daikon, steamed veggies, 1 pan fried dumpling, and half an egg. As for the extra chicken, I went with chicken only so got 6 wings and 5 drumsticks. Since I didn't want the fries and drink that came with the combo, they took off $3.00 from the combo price. That works for me. My daughters and I haven't eaten the bento boxes yet so I can't comment on them at this time. However, I had one observation... the chicken curry sauce got all over the other sides in the box container... maybe they can cover the curry chicken to prevent sauce leakage over to the other sections... just my 2 cents. As for the chicken wings and drumsticks, they were a big hit!!! I would recommend getting the signature crispy style for the chicken and try all their 8 sauces unless you prefer to have your sauce tossed in with your chicken. Sauces are available for your taking at the condiments station. I tried 5 sauces... garlic soy and Tokyo spicy are my favorites. They have a promotion at this time... when you spend $20 or more, you get a Tochi night light for free (while supplies last). I don't know how much they sell it for if you don't spend $20 or more. Since I made a few purchases over $20 each, I got a few Tochi(s). They are really cute. Btw, their take-out bags are cute, too. What I find fascinating about this place is their Tochi art wall. They have chalk readily available for customers to draw on the wall. If you're an artist, this place may be the place for you to enjoy some great tasting fried chicken and share your passion of drawing. Happy eats and have fun! I'll see you here! Btw, there is street parking. Pay for parking stations are all around. Please do read the street signs. There may be a few parking garages nearby as well.

Overall delicious fried chicken. Portion very generous and all pieces are huge and meaty. Fried chicken coating very crispy & meat-to-breading ratio is perfect (meaning = not only all breading like some places). We got the wasabi flavor. The wasabi gives it a little kick and there is some creamy sauce that pairs pretty well. Tip: We ate ours with rice. Flavor is pretty strong and fatty, and the rice balances perfectly for me. Hubby likes it with or without rice. The fries is potato wedges. They're not super crispy, probably because we got them to-go, but they are creamy on the inside. Seasoning is perfect, not too salty, definitely go well with the-very-flavorful-chicken. Staff were really nice and place was really clean. You can park in the back. There is an sketchy-looking-alley to enter the parking lot.

Great spot for lunch if you are in the area. Great ambiance - love the cute chalkboard art that anyone can add to. Chalk is right on the counter so let your creative juices flow. Service - spot on. They are super friendly and even though they got missed one of my orders, they corrected it in less than 2 minutes. I'm glad I checked the to-go order before I left, but still no complaints. Food - was wonderful Chicken sandwich - the chicken piece was ginormous! lightly battered. very crispy. very meaty chicken thigh. I love they have all the sauces for you. Teryaki, Honey Mustard, Garlic Soy, Spicy Mayo, Wasabi Mayo (the best!), Tokyo Spicy (2nd best, not very spicy at all and sweet). Update: 12/23/23 Back at Tokyo Chick since we liked it so much last week. LOL. Today again I had the Spicy Chicken sandwich combo and it did not disappoint. I also had the spam musubi and spam + tamago musubi, both were excellent but where the business really shines is the chicken. We also ordered the Fuji Wasabi Wings Combo and you get some great tasting wings with thick cut steakfries. For the drink, I like to mix the homemade honey tea with some of the yuzu lemonade. We also did the Yelp check in for the free milk jelly dessert and its is delicious. Light and sweet with some popping boba for fun. The owners are super nice!

Never expected such great service from a fried chicken shop! Staff were dressed in chicken onesies and super friendly and welcoming with huge smiles on their faces when I walked in They also had a raffling event and free goodie bags. I got a super cute baby chick night light. The food itself was delicious, the chicken perfectly crispy even though I ordered to-go and didn't eat my meal until much later. I was pleasantly surprised! To-go order was packaged neatly Sauces were good Very impressed by this place! Would come back again :)

4 stars Ordered this through UberEats today. On the app, the combo was BOGO free and it said 6pc combo, but I think I got 8 generous pieces per box! The fries are seasoned potato wedges, which were quite tasty. If there's anything I wish they'd change is to give one sauce without charge amd maybe make the pieces bite-sized. Otherwise, it was very good. The apps promo came with a free cute chick nightlight. I thought it was the squeezable nightlight, but it isn't. There is a switch underneath the nightlight. Still, very very cute!

Food was actually delishhhh!!! The chicken was so good. Highly recommend their garlic soy. Super tasty and perfectly crisp. Fat fries were pretty decent too but their highlight is their chicken. Service was quick and friendly. Inside aesthetics was clean and modern.

This place is located a few blocks away from Old Town Pasadena and probably the only Japanese fried chicken around the area. Their fried chicken comes in wings, drumsticks, and boneless. I've ordered take out twice from here and the quality is consistent both times. The wings are my favorite, the batter is super crispy and the meat is juicy and flavorful. They also have a self serve sauce bar with 6-7 difference sauces to choose from. I always go with original crispy chicken and choose the soy garlic and the tokyo spicy sauce as dipping sauces. Their combo meals come with crispy fat fries/potato wedges and a soda. Parking: can be tricky. Theres metered parking on the streets or public parking structures in old town, which you would need to walk 2-3 blocks.

My friend and I shared the following dishes: -Carlos Jewel Box: My favorite dish here. I just loved the variety. Sashimi and fried seafood on a bed of fluffy and seasoned rice. Also a nice umami kick from the ikura. The sashimi was tasty and standard, but I really enjoyed the fried seafood bites. The tempura batter was great and the seafood was nice and plump. -Tendon Combo with Cold Udon: Same notes for the tempura here, the batter was great and the tempura here is on another level. I also liked the half boiled egg and breaking the yolk into the rice, so delicious! The cold udon dipping noodles were also tasty and refreshing. Great for hot weather. I enjoyed the texture of the noodles. The value of each set was pretty good for what it was and the food was good quality. This restaurant is located in a cute alleyway with good outdoor ambiance. I enjoyed dining outdoors. The service here was great and the servers were kind. There's usually a wait to eat here. You put your name in on the tablet located at the restaurant and sometimes they have a waitlist available on the Yelp app to enter in. Overall, a great spot and I would definitely come back for good Japanese Food/Tempura.

This place looked really popular, with a lot of people coming in and out, so we decided to give it a try. The girl seating people when we arrived wasn't particularly friendly, she seemed like she was just going through the motions. Inside looked really busy, so we decided to sit outside. Even with the crazy heat, there was plenty of shade where we were sitting, so it was actually bearable. There was a QR code near the entry way that I had scanned but the young lady ended up bringing us menus, which was helpful. I ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura bowl with wheat noodles, but actually wanted the Undo noodles but I let it go. My mom ordered the all-vegetable tempura bowl. We also added a piece of chicken breast tempura to each of our meals for some extra protein. The tempura was different from what I'm used to. The batter was very light and flaky, but it was delicious! We both really enjoyed the vegetables. My favorites were definitely the zucchini and pumpkin. Overall, the service ended up being decent as well. Now here's the part I feel bad about mentioning. About 40-60 minutes after we left, my stomach started cramping really badly, and I ended up in the restroom. No need to go into details--it was horrible. I asked my mom how she was feeling, and she was completely fine. We pretty much ate the same meal, with the main difference being that I had the shrimp tempura and she didn't. So naturally, I wondered if maybe I had gotten a bad piece of shrimp. Of course, I can't say for certain that the shrimp was the cause. I'm not going to write this place off as a bad restaurant because of my experience. It could have simply been an unfortunate one-off situation. The place was clearly popular, and by the time we were getting ready to leave, there was actually a line of people waiting to eat. Overall, I think this is probably a good spot and we genuinely enjoyed the food while we were there. Unfortunately, after the way I felt later that day, I just don't know if I'll personally be coming back anytime soon.

The karaage had a solid fry, and wasn't greasy at all while being both crunchy and juicy. The sauce was a creamy and spicy and paired well with the chicken. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious although a bit on the sweeter side - the egg was very well marinated and the chashu generous and flavorful. - Tokyo set with tuna don (5/5): Also came with soba noodles, miso soup, and tsukemono. The tuna don had a generous portion of tuna and rice. It tasted fresh and was a simple and well executed dish that satisfies your cravings. The soba noodles were a surprise to me. I didn't expect the soba noodles to be in a sauce with a string sesame oil consistency and taste. It was refreshing yet a bit heavier as a result. I also love the variety of fish provided with it. Overall (5/5): Disclaimer - we came here late April. But this is a gem in Pasadena that we wished we visited sooner! The lunch deals have very generous portions for the price and we were super stuffed after. We also were quite impressed with the execution of the tsukemono which looked like canned vegetables mixed with mushrooms that were pickled together for an unexpectedly rich flavor. The vibes of the establishment are modern and tasteful, and we really liked how spacious it was. Service was also solid. Overall we hope to be back to further explore the menu!

The…read moreDine LA menu was $78 per person, and after finishing the entire meal, I thought it was the perfect amount of food. I left satisfied without feeling overstuffed like I sometimes do at Chubby Cattle, but definitely wasn't hungry either. First piece of advice: make a reservation! This place gets busy, and I can see why. From the moment we checked in, the experience started off great. We were greeted at the front, our table was ready, and we were quickly introduced to our server, Jeffrey. I have to give Jeffrey a huge shout-out because he took our dining experience to another level. From his warm smile to his attentiveness and genuinely friendly personality, he was just an excellent human being. I would honestly come back just to chop it up with Jeffrey again. My water barely made it to half empty before he was already refilling it. More importantly, he paced every course perfectly so we never felt rushed or like dishes were piling up on the table. For drinks, I ordered the Imperial Palace made with Suntory Toki and yuzu, which was delicious and refreshing. My friend ordered the non-alcoholic yuzu lemonade, and that was really good too. Now for the food. The quality of the ingredients and meats here is no slouch. We started with the A5 Wagyu tartlet topped with caviar. This was one of those single bites where you immediately wish you had five more. So good. Next was the smoked ribeye tataki, which was another hit, followed by the chawanmushi with uni and okra. Everything was well balanced and beautifully presented. Then came the miso seabass, and I have to say it was right up there with Nobu's version. The fish was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. For the main meat courses, we had USDA Prime ribeye, American Wagyu short ribs, and A5 Wagyu filet mignon. The Prime ribeye was incredibly flavorful and well seasoned, while the American Wagyu short ribs practically melted in your mouth. Pairing the meats with freshly grated wasabi made them even better. Another reason Jeffrey deserves recognition is that he actually cooked our meats for us. Even while taking care of multiple tables, every piece came out at a perfect medium rare. That level of attention and consistency was impressive. Jeffrey then prepared the bone marrow rice and cooked our A5 Wagyu filet mignon to pair with it. By this point in the meal, I was completely satisfied without feeling overly full, which is exactly what I want from a tasting-style experience. For dessert, we finished with the Miso Cappuccino ice cream. Since we were celebrating my friend's birthday, the restaurant added a really thoughtful personal touch to her dessert. They made a handwritten cracker with her name on it along with "Happy Birthday." It was a small detail, but it made the celebration feel much more personal and showed the level of attention Yakiya puts into the overall experience. The ambiance matches the food and service. Yakiya has a modern, elevated Japanese BBQ feel without being overly stuffy. The restaurant wasn't too loud, and the tables were spaced far enough apart that we could actually have a private conversation. For a birthday, date night, anniversary, or another special occasion, the setting works really well. Parking was surprisingly easy for Pasadena. They have a huge free parking lot, and we had no trouble finding a spot. Overall, the $78 Dine LA menu was a great introduction to Yakiya. The portions were just right, the meat quality was excellent, and every course felt thoughtfully put together. But what really made the night memorable was Jeffrey and all the little details the restaurant added to make my friend's birthday special. Great food can bring you into a restaurant, but service like this is what makes you want to come back. I'll definitely be returning with friends and family for future special occasions. And if I'm lucky, hopefully we'll get Jeffrey again!

I've dined at the Hacienda Heights multiple times before and wanted to check out the Pasadena…read morelocation. I was disappointed of the value of the "original" set especially since they no longer offer the bone marrow fried rice (it's on the lower tier one though). For $128 set and you only get 5 pieces of grilled meat and they count the starter drink as a course is disappointing. Yes there's meat in the starter courses but when the restaurant is focused on grilled meats, it's kinda sad you only get 5 pieces (unless you order more). The food quality is good but the value isnt there like it used to be. The biggest disappointment was the service though. We were never asked if we wanted to order drinks and was not asked if we wanted to add anything else at any point of our meal. Could we have asked? Yes. But there's a level of expectation from the service with a restaurant like this where they're promoting an exceptional dining experience. The courses felt rushed at some points and then other times there was a longer wait in between. It wasn't consistent. Knowing how it is at the other location, the hospitality level was not on par. Also separate from the dining experience - one of the bidet toilets in the womens restroom wasn't working, but there was no out of order sign and BOTH stalls had no toilet paper for quite some time until we had to ask a worker to restock it.
