Service, food, and atmosphere was fantastic. The hostess was sweet, the sushi guy was cheerful, and the hibachi guy was entertaining. The restaurant was clean, not busy at the end of a Monday night, and the food was cooked perfectly. We enjoyed a California roll, Spider Roll, and the chicken-steak-shrimp hibachi with fried rice and veggies. We all have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. read more

I'd like to start this post with the good and then explain our atrocious experience at this establishment last night. The taste of the hibachi food was good. Ok that was quick, on to the main event... After careful consideration & planning we selected Tokyo to host my sister's bachelorette dinner. Hibachi is one of her favorites & this is the closest one to the casino resort we were staying at. I was on the fence about this place as I had recently heard things were rocky but we went ahead with the decision to eat here. We had a group of 12 ladies ready to enjoy the entertainment & quality a hibachi dinner usually offers. While our chef was charismatic & did a good job cooking the food, the wait staff left a lot to be desired. This place is nothing but a "no zone". No you cannot share a plate if you aren't able to eat the huge amount of food, nor can you order a child's portion. I need to add that he did eventually let us split a plate after telling him we could not eat that much in one setting but then charged me $14 for extra shrimp when we did not receive anything extra & we discussed that at checkout but the guy was not hearing anything I said. The ladies who ordered alcoholic beverages all agreed their drinks were either made with very watered down liquor or had no liquor at all. The rice in the sushi was over cooked and therefore had a fuzzy type texture. The mojito had no mint (and no alcohol apparently) in it. Every time we'd ask for a cocktail we were met with pushback and the excuse they didn't have the ingredients. They also only had a handful of beers available. Literally, a handful. Not a handful of brands. We found that odd, why are you guys out of so many necessary items to make cocktails and serve beer on a Saturday night? The waiter tried to act accommodating but it was clear it was just that, an act. Another young lady who was assisting the waiter rolled her eyes and expressed negative facial expressions when asked for silverware, water refills, or anything else. If you chose a job in the service industry and especially a restaurant that charges what Tokyo does, then you should understand that patrons expect a certain level of service and quality. The restaurant has a grimy feeling, greasy floors, the grill we were seated at was dirty, the chairs are wobbly & in poor condition. It's just not the experience we had looked forward to. None of us, or our families will be returning. I hope the owner can address these concerns with open eyes & ears instead of being in denial or combative. We miss the old Tokyo. read more

This place 3-4 years ago wasn't bad, the environment was clean & relaxed. Now it smells awful, bathrooms & floors are always dirty. Wait staff isn't very friendly, seems like they are always short handed or turnover is high. The only reason I gave it a two stars & not a one was because one of the chefs (the one we usually get) is always awesome, funny, friendly, seasons everything well etc. This place needs to be revamped, close for a bit, CLEAN and hire staff that will be pleasant (pay and reward them well enough they don't want to leave). read more

The place is run down. I thought I would try it anyways. I noticed the prices were comparable to a higher end restaurant. The food was ok. I went a second time and was over charged for less food. I don't normally say things like this but for the THIRD TIME within a MONTH, Tokyo Hibachi and Sushi has only given us half of our order. After reporting the missing food to the "Manager" and talking about how this has happened THREE TIMES, he got accusatory saying we hadn't actually had orders missing in the past. Food is consistently very tasty, both the hibachi and sushi. I've been there a few times. That's the sole reason I return. The most recent time was the worst in terms of service and it wasn't very busy as the main dinner rush was over. Apparently this is a good time for staff to congregate by the front door and chat. Greet me and seat me; that's all you have to do from my perspective. Maybe next time. No silverware or chopsticks upon arrival to the seats, or after the first waitress visit, or drink arrival, or when the appetizers arrived. Staff should be trained to recognize the basic items needed (refills, plates, napkins, silverware) and address them every time they look at a table. Cover these items and you can move to 4 stars - I'm not hard to please. Finally, the place could use new (hard surface) flooring instead of the carpet. It just feels dirty. And it's very dark. Do that and the above and you would have a 5 star rating. It would pay for itself. Do all of the above and your business would double, tips would skyrocket, and Durant would have another great place to eat with friends and family. read more

The guy that cooked our food and did the show ended up wanting to fight my dad. How professional. Before we even got seated the guy that seated us had an attitude problem and acted like he did not want to be there at all. That's fine. I have bad days too. Then he cut off my dad from alcohol. That's fine. He drinks a lot sometimes. People usually think he's funny. The waiter didn't. That's fine. What really set me off was when he cut off my mom who sat all the way down the line AWAY from my dad. She hadn't said a word. Had one beer. He asked her to "calm down" and that she needs to slow it down with the alcohol. It was her birthday. My dad didn't realize he had said the same thing to my mom since she was sitting further away from him. After he found out, he went to the front laid his cash on the counter and said we're not coming back. The waiter had no response. Didn't care. We had a fairly large group with us so we all sat in the parking lot for a few minutes before heading out. The waiter and the chef that made our food both went outside to smoke a cigarette and was eyeballing us the whole time. Horrible from the atmosphere (scary dark and kind of dank) to an excessively salty udon soup with only salty broth, udon noodles and two skinny tempura shrimp ... nothing else in the soup. Terrible. Egg roll, usually hard to screw up, was worse than the cheapest frozen egg roll you get in a supermarket. When asked how my meal was I politely said the broth was too salty and there should be more ingredients in Udon soup. I love their sushi. It's never been an issue. However, their staff doesn't look kept and their bathrooms are AWFUL. They overcharge for the food, and it's not the atmosphere it used to be either. their service and the establishment itself is not anything like it used to be. They can't even sell any kind of liquor because they haven't renewed their license. Their food is good but the atmosphere is terrible along with the way the employees dress and for as high as they charge for their food you would think they would have everything up there too. They need discuss presentation of themselves and of their restaurant. The owners of this company need to renovate before they loose what customers they got. I like going in as a family for special dinners, but most of the time I have to order out because I am disgusted with how I unkempt the restaurant is so much so that I'm starting to wonder if I even want to eat there anymore. Giving one star because negative stars are not an option. This place has gone down hill fast! We have eaten there on a regular basis for years and have always enjoyed it. It is nothing like it use to be. Waitress was probably the worst I have had in my life! There were signs up about social distancing on the counter and door. She asked us to move over a chair because she had another group to seat. Thought she was doing it to have space but she sat them right next to us. When I asked her about the social distancing she she told me that me and my son could get up and move to the bar if it was a problem. The guy she said was her boss brought our sushi and asked if we needed anything. I asked for a dish for wasabi and soy. He brought me one and it had old dried rice stuck in it. The people that she sat by us didn't get their sushi until after they had already started putting their hibachi food on their plates. Then she brought their soup and salad to them after they were done eating because she forgot. On top of all that the floor was so dirty and sticky it almost pulled your shoes off!Glad that the new place is opening downtown. If they keep this up they won't last long. Tokyo provided an enjoyable meal for my family of 6. We had 3 hibachi-made dishes. The cook played his role well - he wasn't Asian at all, but I enjoyed hamming around with him. He was efficient and cooked all things as we requested...even throwing in extra onions with the veggies. We also ordered 3 sushi dishes which were awesomely made. The shrimp and crab sushi we ordered was worth the $15 price tag. The yum yum sauce was just that - YUM YUM!!! The service was great as well. I visited this restaurant during my business trip couple weeks ago. Like most hibachi restaurants, it's pretty dark but the seating environment is still comfortable. They have sushi bar and hibachi area. The greeter led me to the hibachi table. The wait was about 15 minutes until the table is half full of people. Then the cook came and started the cooking (or the show...) it's pretty standard for the hibachi to wait until they have enough customers before they told the cook to come. The food is good and the cook put a good show. The price is little expensive but there are plenty of food. I ordered a combo of chicken, steak and shrimp with fried rice. They are little bit salty but still good. It looks like some of the waitresses were new and they made couple mistakes, but the cook and manager fixed it. There may be some better hibachi restaurant in the nearby big cities such as Dallas, but for a smaller town like Durant, it's a pretty good standard. read more

Overpriced low quality cut foods coupled with the worst wait staff I have literally ever seen. So unprofessional.our waitress was actually wearing a shirt from her other job and messed up every order on our cramped table. . The heat in there is unbearable! This was the biggest let down I've had in years. I don't normally give many negative reviews, I just chalk it up to a bad night and forget about it. After what I just went through I had to do something though. I ordered saki, they were out. I ordered a crown and coke, out of crown. So I decided to stick to food. So I ordered 12 pieces of sashimi and the hibachi lobster. He had finished cooking everyone's rice, vegetables, and everyone's chicken and steak before I got my sushi. So at this point I'm getting heated but didn't want to screw up everyone's dinner by raising hell so I just sat and waited for my lobster thinking surely they can deliver with one good thing for the evening. Of course I stood corrected. The 30 dollar lobster dinner was so dry and rubbery after the second bite I knew there was no possible way I was going to be able to eat it. The staff is rude. The blonde women at the front did not even crack a smile and seemed put out by my presence. The food takes forever. I used to love this place but I am not impressed. Also they closed early last time we tried to eat there on our sons adoption day! I see a lot of bad reviews and I don't understand. Maybe I went on a good night?? The food was really good and the service was outstanding! We had our drinks almost immediately after we sat down. My husband ordered egg rolls and my daughter ordered sushi and they were prompt at getting them out (and they were really good!). The cook was super nice and very entertaining. The portions are HUGE! Every time we have visited this restaurant, there is always some kind of beef between staff members, drinks refills are few and far between, the wait for the cook to come out and begin the "show" seems to take forever, never have lobster...the list can go on for days! Our most recent visit, whoever prepped the food in the kitchen shorted our order on veggies, chicken, and lobster. The cook was reminded that he still had not finished cooking the seafood, he proceeded to cook scallops but the lobster was never to be seen. The way this place is operates makes you wonder if it even has a manager, just seems like a free for all for the employees. All of the hibachi restaurants I've visited, the wait staff has always had the chef's back. Here, it seems that the staff is seeking failure. Went there to grab dinner after a quick game of tennis, was never so upset with a dining experience my entire life.First of all, the waitress was rude. Been here multiple times and each time I've had to double check before I pay because they charge me for stuff I don't get. We always order the same thing so when the cost is off I always catch it and make them explain how because they won't show me the receipt before paying. Once it was almost 20$ over my usual because they charged me for hibachi chicken, which I didn't order or get. This last time I don't even know what was added but it was an additional 5$. When I caught it the girl played dumb and said she had accidently added something to my order. She only admitted it after I told her how much each thing cost that I ordered and told her there was no way it should cost as much as it did.
