We try not to eat out in Ridgecrest often and this is one of the reasons why. We waited over an hour before the cook arrived to our table. We walked in at 6:15pm (thinking we were ahead of the crowd) and were promptly seated, we ordered within 15 min and were served soup and salad...then proceeded to wait and wait...I had lost track of time because we had two 3-yr-olds to entertain. After an hour I am not going to force them to sit in their seats. By time the cook showed up to the table, mind you it's 7:20pm, it was time for kids to be getting ready for bed, so you can imagine how irritated we were. Why you ask we didn't leave?! I'm not sure hindsight is always 20/20 and we should have left. I think they fooled us in the beginning by serving the appetizers we were thinking the cook was coming shortly. Not once did the staff apologize or offer to bring us anything additional for our wait. My water emptied 2x where I had to ask to be refilled, the kids were angry. Was there tonight and although the food was good I witnessed the one disgusting cleaning method. The busser poured water out of used glass to wipe the tables off with. When confronted about it we all do it. How fn gross is that!!! read more

Check it out, I just move back to the states from Japan in May this year, So I was very skeptical about going to a sushi bar in the high desert. Tokyo House ended up being excellent! I would even say their sushi is the same quality as the sushi in Japan, and they also have imported Sapporo which is brewed in Japan and is the King of Beers in Japan. read more

We went for dinner. Tokyo house provides only sushi bar or teppanyaki grill service. If you are hankering for a good non-sushi Japanese dinner, this is not the place. The food is not bad but this is place caters to white people who think that teppanyaki is Japanese cusine. I have been to Japan three times. Each time I stay at least two weeks and went out to eat Japanese almost every night. I never saw a teppanyaki grill. read more

i drove up to ridgecrest pretty late... it was a little after 9pm and the staff were still welcoming, instead of trying to shoo us away because of closing time at 930. Anyway, rolls were pretty good, i love the soft shell crab roll, mMmmMm....sashimi could have been more fresh, but again, we got there late, so im sure its much tastier during the day, baked mussels were yum, salmon sushi was a good size and sweet shrimp sushi was pretty tasty, especially the baked shrimp heads it was served with :p the servers were very polite and asked us if we were doing ok many times.. :) read more

It's okay..... the sushi is decent for certain things like the crunchy rainbow, mango roll, and philly roll. Like so many other restaurants, you only can get fake crab so we pass on those. The chicken with the soba noodles was cooked too dry. The biggest issue is nothing ever changes. The menus haven't even changed for 10 years - literally they are falling apart. After a few visits, you know that whatever you get from the grill, it will have the same tasting sauce. The grill chefs can be nice. The sushi chefs ignore you. And the wait staff can go either way. Ridgecrest has such limited options -- it's not bad, it's just not great. read more

Was just here with the family. Honestly the food is pretty good and the servers are always excellent. However, the reason we don't come here very often is the management. Whenever we come the female owner is always rude and she's always yelling across the restaurant, it's very unprofessional. She also always has this look on her face that says she has permanent constipation. And the male owner is always inebriated and is constantly flirting with younger customers. They both bring the atmosphere of the restaurant to a very low point that my family can't even enjoy our dining experience. If the lady kept her mouth shut and the man stayed in the kitchen, it would make the experience a little more tolerable but I speak for my whole family when I say that if they weren't there at all, our experience would be perfection. Thank you to the servers for your excellent service and the chefs for their delicious meals. And to the owners? We have no positive thoughts for you. read more

We arrived 30 minutes before the restaurant closed and the staff welcomed our family very much even though they already started cleaning up. They served us big pieces of sashimi and the steak was tasty. The owner was very friendly and we had a great talk! Food is one of the best for dinner in Ridgecrest. With a small selection that you can call "upscale" this place is a nice exception.

I've got to say that for being in the middle of a desert the sushi here is pretty good! The show they do at the grills you sit around are great for impressing visitors or for group dinners. The chefs are a great addition to your crowd. However, all the noodle and rice dishes kind of taste the same - the sauce they use is poured over everything and the flavors all blend to one regardless of what you order. The staff was friendly and attentive and everyone in my 6 person group received their order correctly. I ordered sushi instead of the hibachi for lunch. The sushi roll was a sub-average size in my experience and the flavor was about a 6 out of 10. I ordered the small sashimi plate as well which is the main reason for the overall downgrade. Several of the slices of fish still had a thick edge of fat and skin on them. I have ordered sashimi many times at other restaurants and have never seen this before. I am not one to troll a restaurant for something little but paying $15 for a small plate of high quality fish, I wouldn't expect 1/3 of it to be almost inedible. read more

My wife and I came here for an anniversary dinner. It was 5:30pm, 106 degrees outside. We wanted the tappan dinner, our "chef" had ZERO personality, we sat down and realized, damn it's hot in here.. The grill wasn't on yet. My wife decided against the tappan because it was hot in the restaurant. We decided to sit at a table and have sushi instead. It was just as hot at the table, we asked the server if the A/C was on, she left to check, she returned a minute later (without checking), she told us " the coolers are on, it's just hot outside". We ordered sushi.. It was very good, but DAMN it was still so HOT in this place.. We finished our dinner, walked up to pay and I see the thermostat , it's at 88 degrees .. What the heck! The management didn't seem to care. Don't think we'll go back, we'll also let our friends know about the experience we had.. My thing is, you've got raw fish in here, the inside temp should be in the mid 70's or cooler.. It's really too bad cuz we liked the sushi, but I'm not gonna pay that kinda money for a meal and sweat while I'm eating it.. read more

This is an absolutely superb Japanese restaurant. Ridgecrest is a relatively small town and you wouldn't expect a specialty restaurant to be this good. We've searched in San Diego for a restaurant that's better, but haven't found it yet. Just about anything at the Sushi bar won't disappoint you. read more

This is one of the best Teppanyaki restaurants we have dined. Whenever we have an excuse to travel to Ridgecrest this is the place to come. The staff is very attentive and friendly. They have Japanese and American beer and wine available. The grill is the normal show and flair and very flavorful. All the favorites are here (chicken, steak, shrimp, lobster). I would suggest asking for the garlic butter which adds a whole other level of flavor. If you don't want the show at the grill, tables are available. They also have a full sushi bar and will serve it at the grill or tables. read more

I've been here a few times, always with a group, and we get the benihana-style food. Fried rice is good, but the chicken always gets overcooked and dried out - good thing they douse it in sauce. Overall the quality of the food isn't quite up to par with what I'd expect. Close, but no cigar. Chefs are usually upbeat and entertaining, and seem to handle large groups (10-12 people) surprisingly well. Prices seemed a tad high, but are probably comparable to other similar places. Can't vouch for the sushi. I'd almost give them 4 stars...almost. Still a decent place to go at least once. Unfortunately they've got stiff competition from the large number of other Asian restaurants in town. read more
