Cilantro that belongs in a compost bin
    Sarah G.

3.25 stars. The service was good, sushi tasted good, and we enjoyed our experience up to a certain point. My main concern is the poor quality of the fresh herbs topping the sushi. The green onions were old and dry. I had never seen such unfresh green onions being presented to me before. I was like, wow, they must have an inexperienced chef working on Friday night. We decided to order one last roll from the specials-- it was called Bam Crunch. We waited a long time for this to come to our table, even the server noticed it had been a while. You would think that in the 20+ minutes it took for this one roll that they could have found some decent cilantro, even if that meant a quick trip to Stater Bros. The cilantro was worse than the green onions, and I was just disappointed at this point. How does a sushi chef let something like this stay in the kitchen instead of composting it or throwing it in the trash? Please don't disrespect your patrons like this. This is not fast food, nor is it inexpensive. Also, the maki are smaller than at other Japanese restaurants. I would rather drive to the AV the next time we want sushi.

The food was delicious and Leo (the owner) made me special sushi when I told him I'm vegetarian. They also cooked some rice without butter for one of my friends and special rice for other (food allergies). They went above and beyond with their food. AMAZING!! The atmosphere is very beautiful and look very much like Japan (yes, I have been there). We are very lucky to have this kind of restaurant in our town ;) A+++++++++

Best Teppanyaki for 100 miles around Newly renovated spot looks amazing. Service is A1. They open the door after hours for us, Leo's the man.

I'm so sad to hear this place is closing! My experience will likely be my first and last due to their closure soon. However, I will say that I enjoyed the entertainment of the chef and he was very generous in portioning our food. This is your typical family ran establishment doing the best they can, nothing fancy. I enjoyed my tender steak but my lobster was a little overcooked. I hear that there isn't another place like this in Ridgecrest, best of luck!

Plum wine. Excited to see how this place is...

A group of 8 of us ate here again a couple of weeks ago. We had Moses as our chef. Lots of fun, and great food as always.

The staff is warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in. The ambiance is lively with an open-concept layout, so if you're looking for a quiet or intimate setting, this might not be the spot, but the food makes up for it! I ordered the spicy chicken noodles, and the portion was very generous. I personally wished it had a bit more heat. We also tried the spicy edamame and the 8-piece gyoza. Both were excellent!

I'm glad we did, because it gave us a whole new feel for the place. Inside isn't massive, but it's not cramped either. Think of it like the Goldilocks of restaurant spaces: just right. The vibe leans calm and cozy, dim lighting, black walls, and splashes of color here and there. It's got that "peaceful sushi zen" atmosphere without being boring. Our waitress deserves a medal (or at least an extra roll on the house). She was the only one working the floor, yet somehow managed to be friendly, attentive, and efficient all at once. Multitasking level: expert. Now onto the food, which is really why we came back. We ordered a spread: two teriyaki chicken plates, one chicken ramen bowl, an order of sushi crunch rolls, egg rolls, a large pineapple sake, a beer, and two iced teas. (Yes, we came hungry. Don't judge.) Everything came out quickly, hot, and fresh. The chicken was juicy, the rice perfectly cooked, and the little bed of veggies under the teriyaki chicken was tender-crispy and surprisingly addictive. Whoever thought of tucking those under there deserves a raise. The ramen had bold flavors that hit the spot, and the sushi rolls lived up to their name, they really were crunchy and delicious. Now, the egg rolls. Let me tell you, these might just be the best I've ever had. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and stuffed with flavor on the inside. The kind that makes you regret ordering only one plate. Drinks? The beer was cold (and surprisingly affordable), the iced teas were strong and refreshing, and the pineapple sake... well, it was different, let's just say it's not everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I'll stick to tequila, lol, but my husband happily claimed the sake as his new favorite. Win-win. Prices here are fair and budget-friendly, which is always nice to see at a sushi spot. The place was clean and well-kept, and I'm happy to say it still holds up just as well as when I ordered takeout years ago. Bottom line: Shoyu Sushi is still doing its thing, fresh food, good prices, relaxing vibe, and service that makes you feel taken care of. If you want sushi that crunches, teriyaki that comforts, and egg rolls that just might ruin all other egg rolls for you, this is the spot.

So when we came upon it in Bakersfield on our way to San Francisco, we had to give it a shot. We ordered just the lunch buffet salad bar style. What a great value for the money. Orange chicken, buffalo wings, meatballs, hot soups, pasta salads, all the best salad, fixings, fresh fruits, and a variety of desserts to choose from. They even bring you fresh buttered garlicky toast. This place could be dangerous if I lived close. The food was great also. I love how fresh the salad bar was. The staff took very good care of our table. There is a lot of space in different seating areas available. You can have a booth next or a regular table. We had asked for an unlimited salad bar and we had an elderly man with us. These dumb bimbos did NOT let us help our grandpa to the bar. They were being SO bitchy about it saying "the person who has a bar has to go get it." God forbid he needs assistance?? Even though we explained the situation they did not care about their customers. I think the experience of the food depends what you get, but 25 bucks for a salmon that is a size of a teens hand is not worth it. Overall it ruined our first time experience and appetites.
