This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Redlands! We have tried others, and every single time we wished we would have just gone to Tokyo. Honestly, you can't beat the service or the sushi. I have never ordered anything I didn't like. The Oishi is my favorite roll on the planet. I even had two Oishi rolls brought to me in the hospital as soon as I delivered my daughter. The owner is amazing. They are extremely accommodating to children as well. It is both of my kids favorite restaurant to go to. We are going for my daughters 4th birthday! I have been here quite a few times, and never disappointed with their food. I usually order teriyaki beef dinner, and it comes with a variety of tempura, choice of California or salmon rolls, rice, and an orange slice. I have also tried their sushis and various rolls, and they are very tasty. Staff are friendly, sushi chef always greets you, and if you go there enough, they remember you, which makes you feel right at home. Not pleased with our experience this time. The food is fine, but the service was terrible. We came with a group to celebrate a birthday. We were seated in the middle of the room. There was one table seated when we arrived. We had our order in as the place began to fill up. We were given waters, but some of our group ordered tea and waited a long time before they asked again and was told to just wait. Many tables were served before we received some of our orders. This was a birthday party and we had a FaceTime call when we were told to turn down. We could never hear our server so I suppose that may have why, but really? We weren't that loud. The servers were rather short with us a few times. We finally got everything including two of our bills. I waited for a while and then took the ticket to the desk. I was told to go back and sit down. It seemed like a high bill for what we ordered, but it is sushi and I didn't calculate what my part of the party ate. I paid and left. Later I found out they combined my portion of the bill with another part of our group. I did not give the server their ticket to do that. I really think I will not be going back. Too bad. As I said their sushi is fine, just don't feel we should be treated that way to get it. read more

First of all, giving this place ONE star is generous. To sum up: horrible service, horrible portions and horrible stomach flu. Read on if you'd like to know more. Horrible service - when my BF and I walked it, it was pretty empty. We were seated quickly but not even greeted or acknowledged by the chefs. When we sat down and were looking at the menu, we asked the chef in front of us for his recommendation and he COMPLETELY ignored us. The server, herself, was not helpful either. "Everything is 'popular'"she said in a rush without even a smile or anything. Talk about rude service. Horrible portions - we only ordered two rolls because we were quite dubious at this point about the quality of the food based off of the horrible service so far. But we hoped, HOPED that the food would redeem the night. Boy was I wrong. We choose the sunflower roll and an albacore special roll. I know what albacore is and whatever the chef topped that roll with was not albacore but some weird crunchy stuff and the tiniest bit of fish inside their quarter-sized pieces. The sunflower roll which boasted to be mixed sashimi on a yellowtail roll was just as disappointing. Same quarter-sized rolls with maybe what I think was mixed spicy salmon and tuna chopped up in little bits. NOT sashimi! ALSO, the ONE thing I could not forgive is how the chef reacted when we asked for ginger. NO it was not provided except for a meager 2 mini slices that came with the rolls. The chef PICKED UP THE CHOPPED INTO TINY BITS OF GINGER with HIS BARE HANDS and dropped it into a mini plate that my BF had to hold out for him. We asked for it TWICE during the service and the chef STILL was stingy and gave maybe three pinchfuls of ginger. Are you kidding me?? We stomached our disgust and ate it anyways. Boy was that a mistake! Horrible stomach flu - that night when I went home, I was still left hungry considering how small the portions were and yet they had charged us over 20 dollars!! I not only had diarrhea but also woke up at 3am in the morning with crazy stomach pains that made me want to throw up! I don't know if it was the food or the fact that the chef was using his bare fingers instead of tongs to serve us our dinner but I became very ill after that dinner. Tried this place twice, the second time was by mistake. This is a little sushi shop with nice little Korean ladies who don't speak English very well. Service was good enough, friendly at least. But the food is mediocre at best. Don't get the beef soba it was way too sweet to be a savory dish; it was also drenched in teriyaki sauce much like the baked mussels and sushi rolls that we ordered. The saddest part of the meal was when my husband turned to me and said "it's restaurants like this that make us appreciate the good restaurants." I used to live not too far from this place, and would order rolls to-go all of the time. The fish-to-rice ratio here is excellent, and you can tell that you're getting quality sushi. Their bento boxes were pretty good for the price. My only complaint is that their special rolls are a little on the pricey side and aren't very filling. Good spot though. read more

Was driving through San Bernardino with a couple of coworkers on our way to a hotel and an early morning, and we searched Yelp for a well rated restaurant on our route. Found this little place next to some crappy fast food restaurants. Very happy we did. We found a small, unassuming sushi joint with fresh, inexpensive sushi and very warm, attentive staff. While it's not the best sushi on earth, everything we had was very fresh, tasty, and a very good deal. We shared 7 rolls, some Nigiri, some soup, and even some oysters, and spent $72 for the 3 of us (3 hungry men). Some prices: $3.95 for Nigiri, $5 for a spicy tuna roll, $8.95 for caterpillar, spider, etc., you get the picture. They go a bit heavy on sauces but you can't beat the price for what you get, which are large, fresh sushi rolls. I would definitely eat here again. read more

We attended during a busy lunch hour, however we were seated for quite a while waiting for our order to be taken and for water to be brought to our table. We were finally helped and our food arrived without too long of a wait which was a good thing. The sushi was okay. Nothing spectacular and the rolls are super tiny. My husband and I went here for the 2nd time in about 3 years this evening. The first time, we ate here after moving to the Redlands area - 3 yrs ago. My husband ordered and ate an order of tamago (egg nigiri) and became very sick. Tonight, we decided to go back after seeing all the 4 and 5 star reviews here on Yelp, though my husband vowed not to get the egg. Tonight we had a really good dinner. We sat at the sushi bar and were greeted in a very friendly manner by all the staff. The couple sitting next to us said hello and generously gave us a piece of their Oishi roll. Seemed like they were trying to be ambassadors of their neighborhood restaurant. The Oishi was unlike any other roll we'd ever eaten. Crab and cucumber wrapped in a piece of white fish with a tasty sauce. The sushi chef picked up on the fact that we liked ginger a lot and continued to ask if we wanted more. The waitresses remained attentive with water and taking away used dishes. All the fish was very fresh and the chef prepared all the rolls well - so that they didn't fall apart. We could tell there were several 'regulars' who came in while we were dining there also. They had several suggestions for us of what to get. The sushi bar is small and is likely to fill up on weekends. The restaurant area with tables also isn't that big. Prices are also a tad bit less expensive than at other sushi restaurants in Redlands, however, extras such as miso soup and edemame are an additional cost. We've found a few sushi places in town that serve these gratis. We'll be back to Tokyo Sushi.. and still avoid the egg. read more

This is the absolute worst place to dine in at!!!!!! I have never received such unbelievably horrible service!!!! Now I'm a person that gives restaurants 2nd and 3rd chances, but I have given this place way more than I should have. Mainly because the sushi is actually good. But their customer service leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I used to come in with my mom pretty often, but all of a sudden when we would ask for their Mochi ice cream dessert, they were always "out of it." No matter what time or what day we went, they always conveniently ran out, yet it is still an item on their menu. I didn't want to think it, but it felt like they were being prejudicial against us. And after awhile, the owner would completely ignore us and our comments about the food etc., good or bad. And every time we come in, they act like we are the scum of the earth, intruding in their establishment, and act extremely reluctant to service us! I went for my 21st birthday today, and tried to ignore their bad attitude. We were extremely polite, not rowdy, and even left a tip, because running restaurant and waitressing is extremely difficult! On our way out, we all said thank you, and the owner didn't even bother to look at us. I have absolutely had it with this restaurant! Now if you want to have your opinions on people and stuff like that, go for it. But don't you dare run a business and treat your customers this way, because you DO NOT deserve them! I was so excited to come here since I was craving sushi (and there's not that big of a selection in the Inland Empire). This place had very good reviews so I took my family here. It's a very small restaurant, sharing a building with a Thai restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly, bathroom was clean (but very small), and atmosphere was peaceful. I ordered the Crunch Roll for about $10 and I honestly don't think it was worth it. There was nothing crunchy about this roll, and it tasted very mediocre (very similar to those 'cheaper' sushi restaurants that always off the Buy 1 Get 1 rolls). I also ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box which consisted of rice, assorted tempura, california roll, and teriyaki salmon. Everything was 'good', but I have one major problem in which I probably won't visit this place again. THE PORTION SIZE WAS TINY! My salmon was tiny in size and paper thin! Overall, this place is OKAY. But since the portion sizes are sooooo tiny, I sadly won't visit this place again. read more

I have been to Tokyo Sushi over 10 times in the past year and a half. They are typically pretty decent (4 stars) in regards to their customer service and overall quality. Last night was completely different. I went there at about 7:30 with my brother to get a couple rolls and some sushi. There was a large party of about 10 people seated in the center of the small room. I ordered the Sunflower roll and some Yellowtail sushi, and he ordered the Crunch roll and some salmon. These are typically pretty good options, very flavorful and filling. The Sunflower roll is 12.95 and usually enough to make you feel full enough to justify the purchase. This time, the roll was maybe the diameter of a US quarter. Cut that into 8 pieces and scoop a very small amount of topping onto it is barely enough to feed a 6 year old. This was my first disappointment of the night. My brother's crunch roll came out and was the same size as mine, only arranged in a horizontal, lined up manner, whereas mine was laid out. The photos on Yelp seem to be completely different from what we ordered, they seem large enough to make you want to visit. Unfortunately we didn't document our food with memorable images, however our rolls were maybe half the size. The sushi wasn't as disappointing, but only had maybe 8 grains of rice as a base. Not enough to justify the $4 for 2 pieces price tag. I'm not a cheap person, but when the bill comes out to $45 dollars and I'm hungrier than when we came in, I get a little frustrated. I have to been to literally every sushi place in a 10 mile radius, and I keep coming back to Tokyo for the Sunflower roll. If the trend of microscopic rolls continues, I may not come back. At least include a ton of rice or some miso soup to give us the illusion that we will get full. I should have eaten elsewhere and purchased the Sunflower roll just for the flavor, not substance. Of course you cannot expect LA or Orange County quality in Redlans, but this restaurant is pretty good if you don't want to drive 50 miles for top quality sushi. Within 15 minutes, the place was packed. Always a good sign. Where we live, sushi bars are a dime a dozen, so you'd think this place wouldn't have anything on them. Wrong. Yellowtail sushi was delicious, fresh and delicate. My tempura udon was yummy, and my husband's chicken/tempura/sushi special was great. The servers were warm and friendly and still managed to handle everyone's needs quickly even when they were clearly slammed. The decor wasn't overdone - just pleasant and homey. I love Tokyo!! It is one of my favorite places to go! They are so friendly, prices are wonderful, and Soup and salad is free! The sushi is fresh and delicious! Another reviewer complained of the size of the rolls... I will say that they are skinnier than other places I have gone, but I think they are longer to make up for it, and it makes the pieces easier to chew, anyway! My mom hates fish, and she had tried a couple pieces of sushi in the past from different restaurants, but hated it. I took her to Tokyo once and she is a sushi lover for life now!
