I'm not sure why all the low star reviews. I've been eating here for over 7 years now. Every time it feels the same, and I mean that in the best possible way. I recently went for lunch hour on a Saturday alone. It's the best place to chat with locals and eat some fresh hibachi. Other side of the restaurant is regular seating and I don't know anything about that side. I ONLY do the fire hibachi grill. The cooks are entertaining and the lines can get long. What I recently tried was fresh garlic in the rice, most chefs wouldn't do it because you have to have the whole table agree to modifications which can be hard because sometimes strangers sit on your grill. But let me tell you the fresh garlic was the best thing ever. Especially with the shrimp. Never had any negative experiences here personally. Been here with big parties and solo dolo. Some of the sushi here isn't terrible either but I really just recommend the hibachi with two sides of rice with the bacon. Promise you will enjoy. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant and ordered to go for years and last night I ordered the house bacon rice and it came with very few vegetables. I've never had such sparse vegetables in my rice before. I called the manager and told her and her best solution was for me to drive back over and pick up a cup of vegetables from them to add to my rice. I did not and am looking for rice elsewhere. Dined on a Tuesday night and oh boy, the service was extremely different from our previous experiences. I was shocked at the difference. We were immediately seated with no wait time. The chef arrived after just a few minutes and started cooking and cooked all our orders (we were a party of 8) simultaneously that time the rice and meats were cooked was not too far away. Luckily, we got a better chef this time and he knew what he was doing and did it properly too. He also did a couple of tricks while cooking which entertained us (and we had some guests with us too). Went here on a Monday; it was fairly busy and packed when we left. We were told our table would be ready around 5:00 PM, but we sat down around 5:15 PM. Our chef was very kind and chatted to us. The filet mignon was incredible, and now I'm always craving it. You definitely get lots of food and meat. My sushi was good. Went here 06/18/26 for a fathers day dinner. Sat on the left side because I had my small children with me. Service was terrible. I have been coming here for over 10 years and the service quality has been spiraling down. Our server was very absent and I had to get up and speak to the host multiple times to try and get water, sauce, and my order. I order the rice bowl and ask the server how much rice it comes with and she said a good portion. I paid extra for fried rice and i got maybe a 1/4 cup of fried rice in my bowl. I ordered extra rice to make up for the lack of rice in the RICE bowl. I waited 30 minutes and still didnt get my order of rice. I asked for the check and all of a sudden the rice was done. I asked to have it taken off the bill and instead they began insisting that I take it to go. I didnt feel like arguing so I just took it and paid for it. We barely got any refills of water. We began sharing water between the 3 of us. Our server spilled soup all over our table and didnt even bring napkins to clean it up so we had to use our baby wipes we had. We got hella attitude from the server when the manager sent her over to us after the manager noticed we were not getting any service at all. The service here is consistently excellent. I love the burst of aroma from the teppanyaki as you walk in--it instantly sets the tone for an enjoyable dining experience. The sizzling sounds and rising smoke from the grill top combined with the clatter of the utensils create a warm and inviting atmosphere as the chefs cook in front of you. The bacon fried rice soaked in the bacon was flavorful and the new York strip paired with their two sauces were cooked perfectly. Beef Sashimi with their slightly sweet tangy soy based sauce is a must have. Tender, medium rare and smoky taste. The spider roll was proportionate and tasteful. read more

We really contemplated coming here because of the terrible reviews, but our two other go to places were closed and we had a birthday to celebrate. Anyways.... here was my takeaway. Cleanliness was not there...the restaurant really is not super clean, but I kept telling myself that the grill would cook off anything that could potentially be icky. Food...the bacon fried rice was delicious. Steak was average and the veggies were mainly onion with a couple zucchini, mushroom and sprouts sprinkled in. The sauces is where I got confused. The "yum yum" sauces was spicy and thick but mainly tasted like mayo. The typical "ginger" sauce was not ginger...it was teriyaki sauce and that was not a vibe. The soup was delicious and the salad dressing had good flavor at the beginning but it was overall just too salty. Teppanyaki is typically a "show" but here it is not. Our chef poured the eggs out of a bowl where they were pre cracked. No onion volcano, no beating rice heart, no huge fire opening, no boy peeing to put the fire out, no throwing chunks of raw veggies into people's mouths....NOTHING. This was a first. Meet my friend for early dinner to beat the busy crowd. Beautiful decor. Waiter was friendly and prompt. We order the japanese style dinner. My friend ordered the chicken and shrimp I had the chicken and scallops (could have been cooked more). No worries because so much add on i took most home to recook the scallops anyway lol. We celebrated our cousins birthday here and the food was delicious. The aesthetics could have been better, perhaps a lighter feel to it. Just felt dark and dated. The Chef was just there to cook the food, wasn't any enthusiasm or entertainment just someone standing there preparing your meal on the hibachi. I said 3 years ago that I would probably never come back to this Tokyo Steakhouse based off of my last review, but I am pleasantly surprised to say that we came back last night and had a great time. My Aunt from Alaska was in town for the holidays and wanted to come check this place out. When we arrived around 4:30pm, it was already pretty busy - we waited about 20 minutes before they seated us. The inside seemed fairly clean, I saw the tables being sprayed and wiped down, but the chairs seemed sticky and I did not check out the bathroom. All 8 of us ordered the dinner combos, I went with the Chicken and New York. We were all big fans of the Bacon Fried Rice and I thought my steak was cooked pretty well, but my chicken was a tad dry. Everyone seemed to like their food and our Chef was great - he was very friendly, made jokes and interacted with our whole party including my 8 year old daughter. Our server who brought us our drinks, salads and soups was also very friendly! Based off of last night, I'd say we'll definitely be coming back again now! Don't forget to tip your Chef! read more

Over the years, I've been here a few times and enjoyed every single time. Bacon fried rice? Need I say more? This restaurant offers teppan yaki (hibachi), traditional dining, and sushi. I've been for dinner and enjoyed sushi. There's been times when I've gone here with a big party, a double date night or even just my husband and I for a date night. During each visit, we got seated in a reasonable amount of time, the employees were really nice, and the chef made the food fresh to order. The food is awesome! I usually get the Beef Yakisoba and a Togo plate order Tokyo mein. When you see the portions while they cooked you'd think uh...this isn't enough but then you eat it and it's surprisingly filling. I also love the miso soup and vegetables. The service is good and the servers come check on you . The ambiance is good, and the chefs are entertaining. One of the few hibachi places in Sacramento that does well and does it right. You can find it in the Natomas area off of Truxel Rd. The place is secluded in its own section in the back and the decor is a bit dim. More so that you can enjoy more intimate dining and entertainment from the chef cooking the entrees in front of you. Unfortunately this place got in trouble for some accident involving the onion volcano, so if that's what you're expecting, you'll be disappointed at knowing they don't do that here. The food here is delicious, heavily flavored in seasonings and the amount of butter they put on, you know your lips will be glossy. I've been coming to Tokyo Steak House for over 10 years now. The experience can be hit or miss depending on the chef, but we keep returning because it's the only Benihana-style restaurant in Natomas. If you get a great chef, consider yourself lucky! Tonight, we had Eddy--10/10 recommend--but unfortunately, you can't request a specific chef. The wait time typically ranges from 10 to 30 minutes to get seated. The lunch specials offer the best value, but dinner is a great option for family gatherings and celebrations. The ambiance is pretty basic--don't expect traditional Japanese décor, koi ponds, or intricate details. It's more of a simple, American-style setting, which suits my taste just fine. Drinks are about an 8/10--stick with bottled beer since they don't offer custom cocktails. Service for drinks can be slow, so I recommend ordering appetizers at the same time. Otherwise, you might end up getting them when your main course is already being cooked. One big plus is the easy parking--there's plenty of space, so you don't have to worry about finding a spot. The restaurant is also ADA-friendly, making it accessible for everyone. Restrooms are clean and well-maintained, which is always a good sign. Expect to spend at least 45 minutes to 1.5 hours here. In the interest of being entirely fair, teppanyaki restaurants have never really been my thing. They're definitely worth experiencing for anyone who has never been, and I've certainly enjoyed myself the times that I've gone, but it's not something I generally have the urge for. However, I have to admit I was a bit more open to checking out Tokyo Steakhouse (and not just because my gf really wanted to come here). Given how most of my teppanyaki experiences have been at Benihana, I was actually kind of curious to see what things are like at a non-chain teppanyaki restaurant! The verdict? Not all that different... As soon as I stepped inside Tokyo Steakhouse, the first thing that struck me was just how big this place is. The larger side of the restaurant offers a ton of teppanyaki tables and a bar with TV's while the other side is a little quieter with your typical, formal dining set up, like at most other restaurants. I'm not sure why you would want to sit on the latter side if you want the teppanyaki options, but it's definitely the route to go if you want their menu's other offerings, like their starters, bento-esque dishes, entrees, udon, and sushi rolls (which you can also get at their teppanyaki tables). Either way, there are plenty of options to go with depending on whatever you're in the mood for. -- POPCORN CHICKEN - Battered and Deep Fried Chicken Bites Served with Teriyaki and Spicy Sauce...$8.95 This was surprisingly decent. The batter was thin yet crispy and the chicken was moist, outside of a few pieces. The sauce was interesting, though I wish the Spicy Sauce (which was great) was separate instead of dolloped in a cup of teriyaki sauce. -- HOUSE GREEN SALAD Nothing special, but I'm not about to hold a salad against this place. The lettuce was fresh and the dressing was decent, though the consistency was really watery/thin (it would just drip off every bite of lettuce). -- MUSHROOM SOUP Although this was just as simple as the salad, this wasn't bad either. The soup needed some body to it (maybe some miso?), but the mushrooms were good. Plus, if I had to choose, I'd much rather get this than the salad. -- SCALLOP & CHICKEN TEPPANYAKI DINNER...$26.95 Not bad, though not amazing. The scallops were flavorful and plump, but I wish it came with more than six pieces (I love scallops). The chicken was decent as well, but it was doused with teriyaki sauce (as were the scallops and shrimp appetizer). As for the bacon fried rice, it was great, albeit a little salty (note on the vegetables below). -- NEW YORK STEAK TEPPANYAKI DINNER...$25.95 My gf got this (hence my non-beef order) and it was far better than both the chicken and the scallops. The beef was cooked exactly as requested, quite tender, and well seasoned. Would definitely stick with the beef. One thing that I noticed with each of the three meats we had, as well as the vegetables, was that everything felt pretty oily. It's possible that some of that may have actually been residual fat from the bacon that went into the fried rice, but, either way, I was still left with that greasy feeling coating my mouth as I ate. No bueno. As far as service goes, the workers are all pretty nice, from the hosts and servers to the chef who cooked our meal. However, with regards to the cooking portion of the experience, neither our chef nor the one at the neighboring table put on much of a "show" compared to the likes of Benihana (though, I see it in the photos on here). Personally, I was fine without it (I'd rather the food just be good), but it might be a disappointment for anyone out there who may want that showmanship (spatula twirls, onion volcanos, etc.). At the very least, it might make the prices feel more worthwhile. Otherwise, for me, coming here was more of a nice novelty to experience than an amazingly delicious meal. I hadn't been here since before Covid and I was excited to go back for a birthday dinner. They were great before, and that's what I was expecting. Well, it's not what I got. The service was great, and the wait was long, which is expected. We didn't get a show like the ones they had before even though we had a large party. The food was not consistent. The bacon rice had way too much seasoning, the lobster had a very off taste, so I didn't eat it, as to not get sick. The sodas also had an off taste like the fountain machine hadn't been cleaned properly. On the other hand, the soup, veggies, shrimp and steaks were great! The steaks were so good, they just melted in your mouth. The place also needed a good cleaning, the restrooms were dirty and the restaurant floors were all quite slippery. So, my husband and I have been wanting to try this place for a little while and yesterday was our chance. We were not the most satisfied with the food... The chef at the grill table seemed like he was pretty new and didn't even appear to know how to chop chicken properly for the teriyaki chicken. It was more like he hacked it up... He over seasoned it with garlic powder and the fried rice was mushy and over seasoned. There was no reason to use that much soy sauce! Also, the vegetable selection was very cheap and not that great... They don't even use broccoli or carrots in their vegetables. I've never seen beans sprouts used at a hibachi. And on top of that, he accidentally used spicy mayonnaise on my husband's teriyaki chicken instead of teriyaki sauce... The only things that were really good from there were the tempura and the Gyoza. The prices are a bit lower than many other hibachi places, and it's probably because the quality of food they use is not that great. I wanted to try the sushi, but if they can't get fried rice right, there's no way I'm eating sushi in this place. On the upside, the ladies that they sat us with at the table were very nice! They could improve their service though because each time I've been there, the servers have always been terrible. They'll let empty dishes, glasses, etc pile up on your table and since the hibachi tables are already pretty small, the lack of space becomes very frustrating. It's always fun to watch the chef cook. But I think this place is a bit overpriced with the quality of the food. Staffs are in general very friendly. By seeing their ingredient, which is lard instead of butter and use too many soy sauce / pepper, I'm worried about the health level of the dishes. Eventually I had to ask the staff to put less sauce on my food and he was willing to do it. We paid extra tips for the chef's hard work. My daughter, her friend and I went to eat her on Wednesday. I love this place. However the last yime I went for lunch not to good. But I for dinner maybe it would be different so we went to eat there. I love the bacon fried rice, always good double bacon cause it's always so good.
