Everything we ordered was so tasty ! Sushi was very fresh with generous amount of fish. The ramen noodle, not sure of they make their own noodle, was so tangly. The pork that came out of ramen was so well cooked with rich flavor, very juicy. Sushi roll melts in your mouth, enough sauce on top with good proportion of rice and fish. Karaage chicken was the perfect dish to start with, the salt they sprinkled on the chicken was on point. Service was 5 out of 5 as well, very attentive and never losing their smile :) The place was very clean and bathroom was the cleanest I've ever been at a restaurant. Tokyo Ya is a wonderful addition to Ditmars. This area has been dying for an all you can eat sushi spot! Service was excellent- all staff were working hard servicing all tables. We started with Lychee Green Iced Teas which were absolutely delicious, all though not included in the all you can eat service. Our apps came out fast, although be warned that servings are very small. For example, if you order 1 servings of gyoza you literally get 1 single gyoza so keep that in mind when submitting an order. The sushi was fresh and yummy but not the best sushi out there which is why I gave it a score of 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, this is a great all you can eat spot with very reasonable pricing. The service is great- food comes fairly quickly. The ambiance is good, the place is clean, the music isn't blaring (that always kills the restaurant experience for me). I have mixed reviews about the food. DEFINITELY get the fried chicken karaage. That's amazing. They do that very well. The fish wasn't the best, and some pieces didn't seem too fresh. We did AYCE so value wise it's hard to complain because you'll definitely get full... but I still think for the price, the quality of fish could be a little better. I don't really go to AYCE for mayo covered fried rolls, so if you do maybe it'll be more worth it. read more

I was finally able to try out the AYCE at Tokyo Ya and I have to say, the food was fresh, very good and service excellent. I especially liked the tacos, donuts and marsh, teriyaki and the different sriracha rolls to my liking. My only quibble is when ordering sushi or sashimi pieces it was one at time. But you could of course order them again. Will definitely go again, but since I'm still full not for awhile. Also some good dessert choices. read more

Compared to other Japanese ramen food joints, these place is actually spacious and has comfortable padded seating and large tables as well .Decor is simple with some weird colorful masks along the walls , but I had my eyes fixed on the large tv showing various Asian girl groups dancing the same moves and singing basically the same songs .As for the food , very good and the ramen noodle bowls are huge and full your tummy nicely as did the dumpling appetizers. Came here yesterday to celebrate my moms birthday. Heard it was fairly new and they don't take reservations and we wanted to give it a try. It's a small intimate restaurant with not that many tables and space to walk between the tables (hard for the staff to refill water, bring your plates out). The food was fresh and since it's AYCE ($35pp, everyone at the table must do AYCE too) it takes a little bit more time for the chef to plate your order since they try to bring it all at once per table so be patient. The staff were friendly but they seemed a little overwhelmed. The table behind us could not finish what they ordered and wanted to doggy bag but if they read the instructions it said unfinished dishes will be charged the a la carte cost of the dish. So... if you want to get a seat for lunch time (cause it's only 19.99!!) I'd suggest getting there right at noon for the first seating and have your order in by 1205. Cause once the crowd hits it's going to take a moment for your food to get to your table. My friend and I had a pretty decent sampling of sushi and sashimi and even cut up rolls. I have to say that the quality of the fish, the taste of the rice, even the soy sauce used is below average. The fish tasted too watery (don't know if they get fresh frozen and because we were early our fish still had a watery aftertaste), the rice wasn't vinegar'ed properly and was kind of sour, and the soy is strong and bitter and didn't add anything to the bite. It got to the point we looking for other sauces to dip into for a better taste. Nothing helped and by the end we were egging each other with 'you can do it' chants cause if we left food behind we'd have to pay extra for it! Lol. But here's where things got surprising. The hot foods were not bad! The fried chicken karaage, the pork katsu and hamachi spicy carpaccio we'd order again. The shishito peppers were yummy and fried rice was decent too. I was thinking to myself if I ever come back (which I won't) I'd get three pork katsu and the fried rice and ask for extra katsu sauce to make a decent pork katsu fried rice dish. Came here on a Tuesday afternoon for their lunch special and it did not disappoint! I came to celebrate Mother's Day a little late and I saw that this place was new on ditmars. We ordered takoyaki and it was so crispy and fresh, the flavors were on point. I got the lunch special with two rolls and a miso soup. I got spicy crab and eel avocado and it was fresh and delicious. My sister got the lunch special with ramen and karage chicken. The karage chicken pieces were pretty big but so perfectly cooked that it was still juicy and crispy!! So good. The tonkatsu ramen broth was nice and creamy, the ramen egg was flavorful and the charsui was so tender. Maybe the only complaint I'd have is that the noodles were slightly too cooked for me, I like it to have more of a chew and bite. The service was amazing the waitress was so attentive and then at the end of the meal she gave all the ladies at the table flowers for Mother's Day!! So sweet. I wish I took a picture of the actual restaurant though because it was so adorable. The walls were beautifully decorated and there were umbrellas on the ceiling. Tried to go for the AYCE sushi dinner last week after making a reservation online. Got an e-mail and text confirming my reservation. Arrived 10 minutes before our timeslot only to be told that they do not take reservations online and to add our name to the waiting list. Added our name and number to the list, went nearby to grab a drink for an hour, and never got a call. We walked back in after that hour around 8:15pm and asked if there was still a wait as our name was on the list, and they looked at us like we were crazy. They found the list but said oh sorry we didn't call anyone, and we are no longer taking walk-ins due to their cut off time at around 8:30pm. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt since thew blew up on social media recently, but its very confusing on the reservation vs walk-ins. I tried again today, called to make a reservation via phone, and they said again it's walk in only. Willing to give them another try, but they need to get better organized and actually go thru the walk-in wait list and call people as tables open up. read more

Visited for the first time two months ago and cant wait until i get the time to go again and devour endless fresh and flavourful rolls .The food was amazing and the menu was big and and digital , you scan a qr code and can see almost everything on the menu which is something very cool and notable, you place your order there for the whole visit and the seats are comfortable, something which is important for me since i enjoy the time limit without shame for whoevers sitting next to me and sees me ascend to heaven with each roll . I came on a Friday during lunch time, I thought it was going to be lunch price but it's not. You can only get the lunch price Monday to Thursday now, which like it's not that big of a deal but I'd expect dinner items if I'm gonna pay a dinner price. You have to scan a QR code to place the order which I guess is better cause it's hard to miss an order but the menu was very very sparse when I went. The only raw sashimi items I could order was salmon, ikura, tuna, Izumi, and tobiko. No raw ebi which is my favorite, red clam, or inari. If you're gonna charge people dinner price for lunch and not give dinner items it doesn't seem very "ethical". I don't like tuna cause most places are very irony tasting which this place was no different and the salmon was just ok. Not so different than the other ACYE sushi places. I only came during lunch time to avoid the crowds, but getting charged dinner price for lunch and only getting the lunch menu left a really bad taste in my mouth. Also the table for two people is also very small. We came around 12ish, the place was pretty empty and there were a lot of bigger table available but they still sat us in the small table. There was little space so I felt like I had to eat fast so they can take the plate and make room for our actual sushi. Maybe giving this place a 2 star is mean but I still feel ripped off. This was me and my boyfriends first time dining at the restaurant and we had an AMAZING experience! We have heard great things about it and we had such a sweet waitress named Linda. She was very helpful with our questions and very attentive. All the staff was so lovely! My boyfriend and I enjoyed all our food ranging from kitchen food and sushi. The sushi and sashimi was so tasty and fresh and could taste the high quality! All the fish was super fresh and delicious. My favorites were the salmon, eel, tuna and white tuna. The spider roll and volcano roll was delicious! I was slightly disappointed that they took this fried squid off the menu that I wanted to try. Apparently they changed the menu a few weeks ago. That's ok we enjoyed everything else including the takoyaki, and gyoza were amazing and everything came out hot. The iced green teas are also amazing we tried the peach and mango. Please do not waste your money. I have taken a couple days to digest my experience here and even past the first flush of disgust at my party's experience at this "restaurant", I still strongly feel that we and other customers around us were treated egregious manner. I tried to consider that it migh have been a one off, but looking back at the staff and manager's response to the whole situation, as well as the reviews of others at other times, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that the only mistake I made in judging this place was to not take the intiative to warn the people waiting outside. As we were expecting AYCE sushi we were not expecting the food to be the highest quality, but the reviews of others were correct. The sushi was cut thinly, the tempura was gummy, and the rolls did not have much flavor. If that had been all I probably would not even have bothered to comment. However, the expereince was so negative that I was compelled to write it down. For context we were the first seating of the day and were in the middle of the restaurant. We assumed we would be in and out in less than an hour. Before we had even gotten water the "hostess" stated the policy about 90 min allotted time, which was fine but took on some significance as the debacle unfolded. I did briefly think it was odd that the table that had been seated at the same time was eating two full platter of food while we had been served barley anything. Had to ask for wasabi (at a sushi restaurant) and was told they had "run out" of ginger (first thing int he morning). However, we chalked it up to a slow start.After getting served a couple of rolls and one plate of sashimi, after nearly 30 min after ordering the hostess came back to say we had 15 min left of our alotted time, when we asked if the rest of our food would be coming she could not answer and said she would check. She did not check, as a matter of fact she started pointedly ignoring us after this. The waitresses were randomly bringing dishes to tables which would just take them. The line waiting outside was growing, and people who came in afer us were being served. We seemed to be being ignored blatently to the point where the waitress would sharply look away when I tried to politely get her attention. This in itself was a feat as we were directly across from the surly "hostess" and in the center of the restaurant. Oh, and the ginger that they were supposedly out of, came out from the kitchen to the table 5 inches away from us after we had asked for it and been told they were "out". It seemed a particular rub that this party did not even eat their ginger and just left it on their plate as they left and we were just sitting there. When we would not leave, as we had not been served our food, was when the manager finally came over after nearly 180 min. His "apology" left a bad taste in my mouth and honestly I would have felt better not waiting further which we did. He also reiterated that they were out of ginger, which at that point was just becoming hilarious when yet another plate was put down at the table beside us with ginger on it. I am not sure if they thought we did not need service because we were all women? Because it seemed as though we would not make a scene? I am still wondering what was so objectionable about us that we deserved that manner of treatment. The manager offered to take the 10% then 15% off our tab. That was barely the tax. We definately did not consume even enough for a bento and this was not worth the money, the time (we spent nearly 2.5 hrs there waiting for food) or the disgusting aftertaste of the subpar "service". My regrets are that we stayed and put up with that "service" and paid for it. My friends were nicer than I was and could see me growing upset because I had suggested this place. I will consider it payment for a lesson well learned that Tokyo ya in Astoria is not a place I will be revisting or recommending. This place provides you will a reciept listing all the things that you ordered beside 0.00 if you are doing the all you can eat. I took a picture of our bill and even at the end of 2.5 hours we had still not recieved a third of what was listed on it. They they had the gall to put it on the bill and charge us for all of it. In addition, there seemed to be an upheaval as the surly "hostess" just up and left for, what seemed like, good even before even we did and the sushi "chefs" all stopped working and left their stations for a long period of time. I am not sure if the indigestion I had was from the food or the expereince overall, but please seek elsewhere. read more

Love the service as they were going order by table depending on when you hand in the menu. The location was filled with Japanese art and posters, it was a delight. For the price it is a deal for $30 per person, excluding drinks of course! You get 3 rounds of order depending how fast you eat as it is 90mins.
