Food was incredible and the right quantity per order to not over eat with your eyes. Service was friendly and delightful. Food was okay, service was horrible. I went for lunch today at 12 when they opened up and restaurant was packed. Apps came out little by little but the main order took 40 mins to come but that's understandable since it was a packed house and I was the last table to sit. However I was missing two apps, seaweed salad and tako wasa. First impressions of the food were it's just okay. Not the freshest fish but it's a cheap AYCE. White tuna was mushy. Cuts were so inconsistent. Placed second order, two special rolls (I paid dinner menu price for lunch) and a sushi/sashimi order. 3 rolls came out first (didn't take as long as the first order but still took a little time), turns out they decided to give us an extra dragon roll which was mostly just cucumber and avocado. Didn't make a big deal since I waited long and could eat more. Sushi/sashimi order never came. A waitress came by and asked if we were done and I told her I'm still waiting for my sushi order. More time passed and I realized it wasn't coming since I'm seated facing the sushi bar and can see what the chefs were making. I finally flagged another waitress down and told her to check on my order if they forgot or something and her response was "sorry just reorder." At this point its been almost 2 hours so I reordered and ordered ice cream along with it so I can just eat and get out. Order came but again items were missing from the reorder. Again they forgot about the ice cream so I flagged two waitresses for the ice cream. 15 mins later, one of them finally brought it out and non-surprisingly they forgot one of the 3 ice creams ordered. They also give itemized bill of everything that the table ordered and it turned out they just completely decided to forgo the sushi/sashimi part of my second order and add an extra roll. Maybe they were thinking we'll get stuffed on that one extra roll and will cancel the sushi? I sat there for 2 hours 45 mins altogether. You are only opened for 4 hours for lunch service and I'm sitting there for 2/3 the time. How bad can your service be that you can just let sit there for that long instead of just giving me what I ordered right away so I can get out and you can turn the table over. read more

I learned about this place from a TikTok and decided to bring two of my college friends with the largest stomachs I know. For a $30 AYCE per person, it was definitely a worthwhile experience where I got my money's worth. The interior was little small with a bar right at the entrance. My party was seated near innermost table, with a view right into the kitchen. The menu was filled with most of the classic sushi rolls and had decent range of selections for the appetizers and a la carte sashimi. We got an unhealthy amount of their shrimp tempura and takoyaki. My favorite sashimi is yellowtail, but tasted a little fishier than I preferred so we just went with mostly sashimi and tuna which weren't top quality but good. The Tokyo Ya rolled was really sweet with the mango and eel sauce and it might've been a mistake getting like over 4 orders of it since we planned to leave no crumbs. I will say that the rolls with the spicy tuna or salmon weren't holding up very well since they kept crumbling as we were picking up each piece up. I was also allowed to be seated early and ordered before my two friends so honestly it was just non-stop eating. One last note, my friend had a terrible time eating their udon...ahaha read more

Please do not waste your money. I have taken a couple days to digest my experience here and even past the first flush of disgust at my party's experience at this "restaurant", I still strongly feel that we and other customers around us were treated egregious manner. I tried to consider that it migh have been a one off, but looking back at the staff and manager's response to the whole situation, as well as the reviews of others at other times, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that the only mistake I made in judging this place was to not take the intiative to warn the people waiting outside. As we were expecting AYCE sushi we were not expecting the food to be the highest quality, but the reviews of others were correct. The sushi was cut thinly, the tempura was gummy, and the rolls did not have much flavor. If that had been all I probably would not even have bothered to comment. However, the expereince was so negative that I was compelled to write it down. For context we were the first seating of the day and were in the middle of the restaurant. We assumed we would be in and out in less than an hour. Before we had even gotten water the "hostess" stated the policy about 90 min allotted time, which was fine but took on some significance as the debacle unfolded. I did briefly think it was odd that the table that had been seated at the same time was eating two full platter of food while we had been served barley anything. Had to ask for wasabi (at a sushi restaurant) and was told they had "run out" of ginger (first thing int he morning). However, we chalked it up to a slow start.After getting served a couple of rolls and one plate of sashimi, after nearly 30 min after ordering the hostess came back to say we had 15 min left of our alotted time, when we asked if the rest of our food would be coming she could not answer and said she would check. She did not check, as a matter of fact she started pointedly ignoring us after this. The waitresses were randomly bringing dishes to tables which would just take them. The line waiting outside was growing, and people who came in afer us were being served. We seemed to be being ignored blatently to the point where the waitress would sharply look away when I tried to politely get her attention. This in itself was a feat as we were directly across from the surly "hostess" and in the center of the restaurant. Oh, and the ginger that they were supposedly out of, came out from the kitchen to the table 5 inches away from us after we had asked for it and been told they were "out". It seemed a particular rub that this party did not even eat their ginger and just left it on their plate as they left and we were just sitting there. When we would not leave, as we had not been served our food, was when the manager finally came over after nearly 180 min. His "apology" left a bad taste in my mouth and honestly I would have felt better not waiting further which we did. He also reiterated that they were out of ginger, which at that point was just becoming hilarious when yet another plate was put down at the table beside us with ginger on it. I am not sure if they thought we did not need service because we were all women? Because it seemed as though we would not make a scene? I am still wondering what was so objectionable about us that we deserved that manner of treatment. He offered to take the 10% then 15% off our tab. That was barely the tax. We definately did not consume even enough for a bento and this was not worth the money, the time (we spent nearly 2.5 hrs there waiting for food) or the disgusting aftertaste of the subpar "service". My regrets are that we stayed and put up with that "service" and paid for it. My friends were nicer than I was and could see me growing upset because I had suggested this place. I will consider it payment for a lesson well learned that Tokyo ya in Astoria is not a place I will be revisting or recommending. This place provides you will a reciept listing all the things that you ordered beside 0.00 if you are doing the all you can eat. I took a picture of our bill and even at the end of 2.5 hours we had still not recieved more than a third of what was listed on it. They they had the gall to put it on the bill and charge us for all of it. In addition, there seemed to be an upheaval as the surly "hostess" just up and left for, what seemed like, good even before even we did and the sushi "chefs" all stopped working and left their stations for a long period of time. Don't waste your time and money here. Food will take 40+ minutes to come out and they come out little by little. Missing a lot of items we ordered. All the rolls and sushi are PACKED with way too much rice. Ordered sashimi and the pieces came out super tiny. Everyone around us were frustrated. The food tasted ok but the rice ruined it to the point where it was disgusting. The waitress also demanded we finished every single piece or they will charge us extra. 100% not worth it. Oh boy this restaurant pissed me right off. My siblings and I are always excited to try new restaurants, and we usually love them! But this particular restaurant I would never in my life come back to AND never recommend to anyone. The reviews on here and the line outside are very misleading. My sister made a reservation for 7:15, we arrived at 7:10 and were seated at 7:25. The waitress sat us without giving us water or a menu for 20 minutes. Then the waitress didn't come back to take our order for an extra 10 minutes. Keep in mind, it is me, my brother, sister, my sister's boyfriend and his friend, a group of 5, so I will admit we ordered a lot of food but having to wait legitimately over an hour for the entrees and having 3 orders of gyozas(each placed in a different order) come out before our entrees is insanity. My sisters boyfriend and his friend, not only did they not get their food, but when the food magically appeared after my sister asked to speak to the manager, the food was wrong. My sister's boyfriend works in a restaurant and he even said the sushi did not taste right. He hated everything they placed in front of us from the spider roll to something as simple as a california roll. My brother had to fill his own water after it being empty for 20 minutes and when he originally asked for more water the waitress proceeded to walk over to the bar, and grab a random cup of water and give it to him. My sister(being older than both my brother and I) was concerned as to where that cup came from and told him not to drink it. When we were fed up and wanted to pay and leave, the waitress asked why my sister wasn't tipping her, and my sister always tips but because of the horrible service and mediocre food we received from a seemingly popular restaurant she refused to tip. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My family and I were so excited to try this place from all the good reviews and it let us all down. First thing to start it off, they sat a group of 5 at a small table. We were all squished. The place was so small, you could barely fit 20 people in there to eat. Then just to get water for the table, two pairs of chopsticks and two plates, we waited 20 minutes and spoke to 3 different hostesses and neither one of them knew what was our order was. We placed our orders and waited patiently as we watched multiple other tables get their meals before us. We asked multiple times how much longer and they said it would be a wait because they were so busy which we understood. An hour and 15 mins went by so I asked to speak to the manager and magically our food was ready. The manager comes out and says he's sorry about the wait and offers free sake or beer for the table, didn't even bother asking for id, my siblings were underage. Then when we say we don't want any of that, he offers a discount. The guys behind the sushi station were so slow, playing around and joking with the people from the kitchen. Half of the food that we received wasn't even correct. The sushi we did eat was subpar, warm and falling apart before even reaching our mouths. The sushi was made so sloppy that some of them just from the sight of it, we didn't eat. Presentation is key especially in a food busy but obviously this place didn't care about that whatsoever. One of our order of rolls tasted absolutely disgusting and when we asked for them to replace it with another roll, the hostess then said we would be charged if they take the roll back and after speaking to the manger again, she was able to get us a new order without charge. Now prior to leaving, my brother wanted a refill of water and our waitress got a random cup from the bar and gave him his refill in that cup instead of the one in front of him. Then to make matters worse, a table of 4 came in between all of these and received their meal within 20 mins of being seated. Now we are about to leave and the hostess has the audacity to ask me for tip. Originally she put 20% tip and I changed it to no tip. She then tries to appeal her case as to why I should give her tip and I explained to her that the type of service I received there, they don't deserve tip. I left that place completely appealed. The line outside the door is misleading, if you're looking for good sushi with good service, don't come here. If you cannot accommodate all you can eat, then don't offer it. Went there yesterday, it was full, however there were 6 big tables that had the reservation paper on it, yet no one was there. It was practically empty, only the small tables were filled. Only reason I went was I saw this on TikTok. So I made a reservation for today, and it was at noon. Yet when I arrived, somehow the tables were filled. And they had said they cancelled all the reservations. Why would you do that? This is exactly like over booking a flight on Delta airlines. After haggling with one of the servers, she gave us a seat, even though there were more tables and seats in the back, that were empty. That being said, they took 15 minutes to give us water, in plastic cups, somehow they ran out of glass cups. After taking our order, we waited 35 minutes for 2 small appetizers. After that people began to line up outside the restaurant and they kept saying it was full and people could write their name down and then they'll call them, but never did. After waiting another 15 minutes the food arrived, but it was only half our order, and missing 6 items. If they had a fish shortage, I was unaware, I ordered yellowtail sashimi, and saba sashimi, and never got it. I ordered it twice because they told us to reorder it because they messed up the first time. I also ordered sushi, and they ended up giving me sashimi, I even told the servers and they did nothing. They didn't even refill our water, but refilled other tables. They also said one of their chefs was out, so it was only two chefs. Quality of food was okay, I hope I don't get a stomachache, service was slow and dreadful, other tables were having the same issue, and people who were waiting on line outside kept getting frustrated and the communication between the servers was downright awful. The 20 dollars lunch was definitely not worth it. I'd rather pay double and have better service somewhere else. TikTok ruined this place. read more
