We finally tried this spot today for a late lunch. Service was really good. When we walked in, a manager or possibly the proprietor greeted us and encouraged us to go have a seat until the rest of our party arrived. You order at the counter and they deliver the food to your table. I ordered the Crunchy Garlic Chicken sandwich with gluten free bread. It was really good but I would probably order without the potato chips next time. For me it didn't add enough to the sandwich for the extra calories. I also tried the Classic Tomato Soup which was good. The rest of the party also tried the macaroni and cheese, a build your own sandwich and of course the Grilled Cheese Donut (a big greasy hit). I always ask everyone if they would order their food again. This visit merited a "Yes" response from everyone. Lunch for four ended up being about $40. The restaurant was clean and service was great. Not bad when you are hungry for a quick soup and sandwich. I had the garlic chicken sandwich and the creamy tomato basil soup. The setting is small and efficient. The staff was very helpful and kind. When we mentioned it was our first time to come in, the server came around the counter to go over some tips and explain the menu. Portions were hearty for lunch. Next time I think my daughter and I will order one sandwich and split it and then just add an extra soup. That's a lot of cheese and it's bigger than your typical lunch time sandwich. read more

I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about a grilled cheese sandwich shop, but when I checked out the menu I was more than interested. A great little set up in a busy location should be great for business. The first time in we had a little bit of a wait but that's to be expected during the lunch rush. When we got to the register the manager handed us 2 cups and said the drinks were on him for the wait- awesome! We ordered sandwiches and a cup of soup. The food came out quickly and hot. The sandwiches were incredible. Full of flavor and the bread was just right. The tomato basil soup was a great addition to the sandwich. Tried this place for the first time today at lunch and it was so good! My husband and I ordered the Pesto Turkey, West of Philly, and and order of tots and shared! The Pesto Turkey was amazing and will be my new go to! I didn't love the West of Philly but that isn't something I would normally order. My husband really liked it! The bread was very crispy on both sandwiches even after driving home to eat it! The tots were SO good! We had about a ten minute drive home and the tots were still super crispy even after travel! Happy to see another new place open up in the city. We saw Tom+Chee on Shark Tank and so we were looking forward to check it out. We ordered the West of Philly, Crunchy Garlic Chicken and a couple of kids meals. All the sandwiches were great. They were made fresh to order and had plenty of cheese. It was interesting to see that they didn't have a simple grilled cheese sandwich option other than the kids option. However, you could certainly make your own. Overall it was a really good experience. The service was fantastic. They were friendly and super helpful. One of the kids' tater tots had a lot of salt on it and the owners came by and apologized and were willing to swap it out for us with fresh tots. Super impressed with them. Good.... but not what I ordered!! I'll take part of the blame here in not verifying my order. I asked for the Mac & Cheese Grilled Cheese and tomato basil soup. I was getting it to go so after ordering I sat and waited. I received my order but didn't check it until I got back to where we were staying. And... there was no mac&Cheese on my sandwich... just a grilled cheese. Kinda disappointed since I'm not in the area much and they closed the location that's near where I live. Not too shabby for a grilled cheese sandwich! I had the Build your own on wheat berry with mozzarella and smoked Gouda. I was surprised I would like it so much. The portion size was just right for a dinner when I had skipped lunch. I paired it with the creamy tomato soup which was not all that for me. I thought it needed a bit more cream and a bit more blending. They had bagged chips but a fresh cut chip would have been a better option with the other homemade-ish items. Also, I'm all about recommendations from the staff especially my first time. They were not at all engaged even though she did ask if it was our first time. I think next time I'll skip the chips and soup. I do want to try their desserts but for the price and miss potential I'll wait until I can split with someone. Specifically this location: the dining area is cramped and weird to navigate. The latter is probably due to COVID but totally misses the social distancing objective. The parking in this shopping center is horrible to begin with and since it's on the corner...driver beware. Tom + Chee recently soft opened for a little over a week and announced grand opening yesterday. Located at Penn & Memorial where the now relocated Starbucks once sat, Tom + Chee is up and running for business. The owner, Rocky, was extremely nice, and you could tell his passion for opening up this location. Not being much of a TV person, I had no clue about the franchise's claim to fame via Shark Tank. The joint was packed, the lines moved quickly, but the food took some time. Offering an assortment of grilled cheese sandwiches with various meats, several soups and salads, and an interesting dessert menu, there's more than you may think based off its facade. I ordered the grilled chicken grilled cheese and the tomato basil soup. While waiting for my food, I was able to sample the classic tomato soup. Both soups were delicious! I will definitely be back for soups and to try the desserts. The sandwiches were a bit pricey, so I'll stick with the plaza district option if I'm paying that price. They're serving up Tomato soup that's hot and delicious with a grilled cheese that's ooey and gooey making it the perfect combination for a hungry person. I came here during lunch time so it was a bit busy sure, but that didn't deter them from giving me speedy and quality service. I was given great recommendations for my order and they served it out to me lickety split. My food was perfect and delicious making this Tom+Chee one of my favorite go to lunchtime spots. Any place that serves a grilled cheese is a place I want to be - let alone their spin on the traditional grilled cheese. I've only gone twice but each time I go - I wonder why I'm not there more. I'm going to have to rectify this! My biggest A+++ comment is that they have really great gluten free bread so when I go - I can just enjoy a sandwich with my family. Normally, I have guilt when I eat bc some or most places don't offer gluten free bread or at the least gluten free bread worth their salt. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. My friend, who is white, and I, Mexican, decided to eat lunch here. We walk in and my friend immediately goes to order food while I decide to go and wash my hands first. Before I could make it to the restroom, an employee comes yelling at me, claiming that I am not a customer. I calmly explained to him that I wish to wash my hands before ordering, but he insists that I am not a customer and that I need to leave before he calls the police. By now, my friend has ordered her food-- which by the way was a bland-- and I have decided to wait outside. On my way out, I see one of the cooks coughing over the food while cooking. Perhaps it was a good thing I was refused service, as my friend tested positive for Covid days later. Regardless, Tom Chee discriminated against me and refused me service for no reason at all-- other than wanting to keep up with my standard hygiene. Delicious sandwiches, absolutely opt to get a whole sandwich. I decided to do the 1/2& 1/2, but regretted that decision once I tasted this delicious turkey pesto. I had it entirely too quickly and immediately wanted seconds. They also only had tomato soup flavor and I guess it makes sense, but I'm not a huge tomato soup fan. I wish there was a potato soup or something as well, but regardless I ended up with mac&cheese to accompany my sandwich. It was heavy on the cheese and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I can't say that I loved this place. It's small and cramped so if you go during a busier time, you may not get a seat. I appreciate that they make the food to order and so it comes out hot but it does take awhile (8-10 minutes). I don't classify that as quick service. It was clean and we were greeted when we walked in. They made suggestions when we were ordering but the wait is was did me in. We waited 25 minutes for a sandwich and two pick twos.
