I am so loving my Tom Brophy makeover. 2 weeks ago I shed about 7 inches of hair. It was sooo empowering, and yet, sassy... and trust me, I've never done sassy well. Now, I'm totally sass-i-fied. But here's the best part, the big question before scissors hit hair shaft was: Can I maintain this on my own without reaching for the baseball cap/scarf/scrunchie. The answer... a resounding YEP. I wake up in the morning, spring out of bed, shake and toss my hair from side to side and voila, runway ready. Seriously. Thats a testament to a great cut. THANK YOU JENNIFER. Also, the salon carries these great products including the LOVING line which is perfect for coarse, wavy, curly, frizzy hair. AND despite the pricy real estate of the area, product and service prices are really affordable. Did I mention the colorist? Tom Brophy has cut my hair many times over the years, but not for 5 years since I moved out of the area. I was in LA in need of a cut and fortunately he was available. I let him do whatever he thought best and got the best cut of my life, as well as his delightful company. Tom is a master, does a perfect precision cut and just the right amount of product. The result was hair with lots of easy movement and so sharp! I am happy. His place is right across from Sak's in BH, so that was fun too. Went to Tom for the first time today and it won't be the last! Based on a recommendation from a friend, I went with her pushing me into the front door, but I have to say, it was fantastic! My hair looks amazing! I have horrible hair too - or I should say HAD. It was so bad I cut it short, then the ends went bad again and I was considering a wig actually. I don't know how Tom did what he did but he cut it so it just falls the right way. I wake up looking good too! He showed me how to style it with his magic brush (I had to get one - made a huge difference) I also bought this hair balm called Love, and it is fabulous. I threw away my drawer of styling products that just dried my hair out. Tom is just a lovely guy and very talented. He kept brushing and brushing my hair - ooooohhhhh ahhhhhhh so nice...... My son's, Michael and Alex (friends of Jon C. for years), ONLY have their haircuts with Jon C.!! He is the best! I'm scheduled for a fixer-upper cut with Jon C. Should have learned from the first fixer-upper?. I usually have Jon cut my hair and am never disappointed. His sense of "real" style and just knowing what looks good on anyone is uncanny. This time I didn't want to drive out to BH and now I don't have a choice! I had my hair trimmed at our local salon in Diamond Bar and it went a lot further than a trim and now it looks like a third rate cut. Just a few cuts short of a mullet. I got what I paid for. Fast and cheap. "Stylists" w/ no real sense of style suck!! When "stylists" pull out their haircut/styling picture books from the1990's, that should send up a red flag! I went to Tom Brophy salon for a Brazilian Blowout. this past weekend. Although I had some difficulty finding the place, the receptionist was very helpful in providing me phone directions. The entire staff was very friendly and attentive. Tom came up to me and introduced himself right away. I found that to be very professional. The salon itself is very clean and very modern. They had these beautiful white orchids decorated throughout the salon....I absolutely loved them. Jon was the Stylist who worked on my hair. He was very professional and explained the entire process to me. The service here was top notch. Jon even went to feed my parking meter while I was 'processing' (he did that twice!.....the meter limit was 1 hour). I later found out there's a parking lot in the back of the salon that you can pay $5 for all day parking. I obviously didn't know until after the fact. The entire BB process was about 2 hours from start to finish. I was so happy with the results. I will definitely be going back. I highly recommend this place. read more

Courtney was great with my hair color. She gave great recommendations and was very easy to talk to. My cut, however, was not that good. The salon should really ask each person what style they want and ask if they want their hair straightened with a straightener or curled with a curler. The girl cut my hair okay and blow dried it straight. Honestly, she should've stopped there. She continued to straighten my hair with a straigtener when it was already straight making my hair look flat and thin. I walked out of there looking like a 5 year old. Straight up best staff and best salon in Los Angeles! The staff is extremely professional and intelligible about their craft and the owner Tom Brophy is so polite and helpful. Everyone here has such a great energy and when you walk out you feel like a million bucks. I have been coming here for a few years now and I've seen several of the stylist and colorists here. Shayna is a great colorist and really knows what she's doing, and I have also recently went to Bryan who knows how to craft a beautiful blonde. I have lived in Los Angeles almost my entire life and have been to several different hair salons, most of which were a disappointment to say the least. You would think that in a city like Los Angeles, a good colorist would be a dime a dozen. Not the case. That is until I found Bryan, a transplant from Chicago who knows blonde so well, you'd think he was born with it....wait, he actually WAS born with it. Needless to say, he knows what he is doing and never disappoints.. And to top it off, he's super cute! No brassy, gold, yellow or greenish-blonde hair here. I now have the most natural looking, beautiful, buttery blonde locks thanks to his expertise! He just recently moved over to Tom Brophy (I will follow him anywhere!) and what a gem this place is! Found my new favorite stylist in LA! Jonathan C! He is so talented and you can tell he loves what he does and is passionate about it. My husband has been going to him for awhile and loves him. I was meeting up with him and decided to get a cut since I needed one badly. Jonathan is not just a master at men's cut but he also took on my extra long hot mess of stick straight tangled hair and did an amazing job! He put a lot of thought in my everyday life and career along with what cut would be right for my hair texture and face shape. My hair falls so nicely around my face and feels thicker. I actually wear my hair down more when usually I have it tied in a bun or ponytail. If he can take on my hair, he's a true master. Best on the whim decision I've ever made. Love him! Just got the best haircut of my life with Josh! I found this salon on a whim - on yelp - and decided to give it a try since it got such great reviews. There wasn't much about Josh, but I decided - what the heck. So glad I did! I went for a drastic cut - chopped off about 10 inches into an edgy, Michelle Williams sort of thing - and couldn't be happier. He really took the time to listen to what I wanted and made some adjustments that it would work better for my hair. He also cared enough to make sure I wasn't gonna freak when he made the first cut. He was unbelievably meticulous and wasn't rushed. I'm 30 and have never gone back to the same person twice when it comes to cutting my hair, but now I'm converted and definitely a loyal Josh client. Also, loved the whole vibe of the salon. Tom and Jennifer seemed so happy to have me, and everyone there was genuinely friendly. Rex didn't have a client while I was there, so he stood my Josh's chair and chatted for while. Pretty hilarious - definitely added to the fun. And the most amazing thing? Love this salon, the vibe, the professional and friendly stylists and even the front desk cutie isnt a meanie! My colorist Shayna R. is unreal. I come in with pictures of what I really want and what I REALLY dont want and she listens but also gives great suggestions. I always walk out feeling 100% better about my hair and thats saying a lot. Normally, I walk out questioning, worrying and then maybe settling on this is ok but she nails the color every time. The ombre coloring she came up with is super chic and not trashy. Its a total cali beachy vibe. Rex, the hairstylist is amazing too. I love that this group of talented stylists really listen to what your going after and dont push you in another direction. This salon is about as good as it gets. Deserves all 5 stars for sure. Super laid back yet professional and the service is fun and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxing and efficient without feeling rushed. I went to Shayna to get my hair colored. I went in with bleached out honey-blond highlights (my natural hair color is dark brown) and was aiming to go back to a darker color. I left the color choice in Shayna's hands, she really seemed like she knew what she was talking about and sure enough, she did! It was as if she knew exactly what I wanted without my having to struggle to articulate it. I love my hair, I literally haven't been able to stop looking at it and have received more compliments on my color in the last week than I have in a year with my original highlights. i had an amazing experience at this salon. i sent them an email after discovering the use goldwell, explaining my hair type (fine/mousy brown) and what i wanted to do (blonde on top, purple underneath) and got an email back within 24 hours recommending a stylist for my colour, christine, with times that were available. i went ahead and booked an appointment. i arrived at the salon and was welcomed by several people. i think even the owner said hello? christine then went through exactly what i wanted, and then had the stylist who was doing my cut (lia) come over and talk about how the cut/colour would fit together. the shampoo/conditioner they use smells DELICIOUS. i couldn't stop sniffing to get whiffs of the fruity scent. i may have looked like i had a cocaine problem. i was then taken to lia who went through what i wanted again, and she started cutting. i have to say, both stylists were meticulous and thorough, and i felt completely at east in trusting them (this is a HUGE deal to me since i was going to a salon for the first time). goldwell products are brilliant. the colour turned out fabulous. it was so nice that a few of the stylists came up and admired my hair, i was showered with compliments as i left and it made me feel so good that i walked out of there with a huge spring in my step. the colour/cut for my entire head was $280 before tip. later on, as we went to pick up a christmas present for my mum, i had two people come up to me and compliment my hair. so cool! thank you to christine & lia who made my hair totally fabulous. read more

I have long natural curly/wavy hair, and it's so thick that I've managed to break multiple hair ties when attempting to put it up. It's gnarly, I'm not kidding. Rena is amazing! I decided to try and save a little money on a haircut and go to one of the student schools. I totally understand that students need to practice and I shouldn't have expected a flawless cut, but what I got was choppy, uneven, and technically very bad. I went to Tom Brophy on my lunch break -- making a same-day appointment was super easy. The shampoo was relaxing, and Adrian, my stylist, really took the time to consult with me about what I wanted, told me how we could fix the cut, and took his time to make sure it was fixed, even, and even managed to keep the length (which was important to me) while cleaning up the jagged layers. I can't recommend the salon, or Adrian, highly enough. I'll definitely be going back. And the prices are very competitive for the area, with a blowout included in the cost of the cut. read more

I have had my share of hair disasters, and every time I go to Rena to help me fix what's ruined, I leave feeling more than satisfied. It's not easy to find truly talented hair stylists, but Rena is definitely one of them. She listens to exactly what I want, answers all of my questions and comes up with great suggestions, and she talks me through the haircut to make sure I am getting the style I want. First off, I want to mention how nice the environment and location is. Everyone is the salon is nice and greets you as you enter. Rena, whom I've been going to for about a year now is an amazing woman. Not only does she give the best head massage when washing my hair prior to the cut, but she is super friendly and always sparks conversation which is what you want when getting a haircut. Tom has been my stylist for over 20 years and he knows how many strands of gray hair I have. He is the best in town and I trust him 100% to cut my hair. I sit down in front of him, tell him what I want, and let him do the magic. My thick, wavy, and sometimes frizzy hair is not easy to cut but Tom always turns the overgrown mob on my head into something so manageable and nice - not to mention the "feel good" factor." An update to my post of 3/12/16 and in response to the Business Owner's comment .... A factual correction, this potential client hasn't been coloring her hair for years, it was colored professionally 5 months ago and has had one minor root touch up since. The client is willing to swear an affidavit under oath of perjury that the owner suggested that a more experienced colorist at a nearby salon with 35 years experience may be better able to help. He most definitely did offer to provide a contact phone number. This to me was a clear indication that that he felt unsure of his own staff's experience. To characterize the exchange as a rant is positively misleading and libelous. It was evident that this salon fell well short on this occasion and is continuing the disservice by offering a "Trump-esque" distortion of the facts. read more

Go to Tom for the best haircut in LA. I don't trust anyone else! I had long hair for most of my life. He was a pro at styling it in a textured, layered way to give me the most volume possible. Last week I decided to chop it all off, and I absolutely love my short, angled bob - so much that I'm wishing I'd gone short a long time ago! The cut is modern, and makes me look stylish and edgy even if I'm dressed down. I couldn't be happier. I waited about a week to write this review to really just get a sense of what the hair cut looked like, how to style it best, etc. After not getting a hair cut for over six months (YIKES!!) my hair was in dire need of some help. So since I passed Tom Brophy everyday on my way to work, I decided to call them and schedule an appt. THEY WERE SO ACCOMMODATING! i had to reschedule three times due to my crazy work and school schedule and even scheduled the appt later in the evening than they normally do. Once I got to the salon, I was quickly greeted by both my stylist, Lia, and the owner, Tom. Lie asked me TONS of questions about my hair. How I normally style it, how I normally like it cut, how long I normally put into doing it, etc. She really took the time to get a feel for what I wanted in my hair cut and what was practical for my life. Considering I was pretty indecisive regarding my bangs, we took it one step at a time starting with side bangs and then slowly going shorter to decide whether I wanted to take the leap to a full bang. Overall, after she was done cutting, blowing drying, and then styling (she showed me how to style it so i could replicate it) my hair has never looked better. People that I havent seen in months and that don't know I recently got a hair cut are complimenting me on my hair! THANKS LIA AND TOM BROPHY. At the end of my cut, Tom came over and made sure that I liked what Lia had done and asked me about myself. It was such a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone.
