Decided to stop in here for a garbage plate with my girlfriend. We both got cheeseburger plates with everything on them. My plate was missing meat sauce/hot sauce, arguably one of the most important toppings on a plate, and only had a very light amount of ketchup and mustard leaving everything very dry. The other plate had no toppings on it at all, so it was just plain fries, burgers, and mac salad even though it was ordered with everything on it. Really disappointed. read more

This restaurant has great food, but the prices are not cheap. The burgers are made with beef that is ground there at the restaurant. The vibe is that of what you would expect of '50 burger/soda shop. What keeps me coming back is their root beer. It is their own recipe and is served in frosted mugs upon request. Tom Wahls in Avon is the original location. The dining room is large, clean and comfortable, with a jukebox and old fashioned feel. The food is good, particularly their fries! The burgers are pretty thin but tasty. The Wahl burger is my favorite with ham, Swiss cheese and a special sauce. They are known for their homemade root beer but they have many other fountain flavors too. There's an ice cream counter too. Be sure to look up their website on your phone and find the "buy one get one" coupon for a free burger. read more

There are few constants in life that are good and filled with just the right memories of childhood, teenage freedom. Flat iron burgers, root beer and a nod to a 50's burger soda-pop joint - Tom Wahl's has it down pat. The Hollywood Burger has always been my favorite... still not sure what makes it Hollywood, but it is a solid cheeseburger. Tom Wahls also has their own root beer - and while it does not have the bite that I like in a root beer, it is more special and tasty than what would have normally come from the pop dispenser. Having made to work here at the age of 14 it would only make sense for me to have a certain disdain for it. However, that is not the case at all. Tom Wahl's is a unique joint in the world of McDonalds, Burger King and Taco Bell. It remains true to it's 50's style theme with neon lights, handmade milkshakes, krinkle cut fries and Tuesday night outdoor concerts in the summer. The food you get here is not the food you get at the aforementioned establishments. You will get a good quality burger, delicious Zweigles hot or even a roast beef sandwich. The soft serve ice cream is still one of my favorite things to get there and the root beer...delicious! (If you need a serious sugar fix that is) They make it in house (or at least they used to). If this is your first time to Tom Wahl's, I suggest a Wahlburger, fry and root beer. They even have combo meals now! The price definitely is not cheap. I went there last weekend and it was $26 for two of us. Be sure to look in the local paper as there is always a buy one get one free cheeseburger coupon. If you go in the summer be prepared to wait in line. read more

Counter service was friendly. 50's style decor Opted for the Wahlburger which had a strange but good sauce on it. Flattop crispy burger , about 1/4 " thick They're the fried cordon blue chicken which again was good. $14 for the meal. Better than BK for the quality. read more

Recently stopped at this place for the first time. Fish fry (fish and chips), was excellent. Others tried their Hamburgers, fish sandwich. Everyone was satisfied with the taste, portions were generous. I would eat here again without hesitation. read more

What can u say. Its the original Tom Wahls. Burgers are the bomb, crinkle fries rock, root beer hits the spot, and ice cream is a great way to end the meal. Probably the best of their locations. I dine here more often than I should and the food is typically consistent. Their root beer is the best I've had, and they make it themselves. I'd recommend the Wahl burger with both Swiss and American cheese. It's one of the best "fast food" burgers I've had. One of the reasons I miss Western NY. The food is unbelievable! I can just taste a steakburger and onion rings washed down by a chocolate shake. I'm from NJ, we have very few venues like Wahl's. Hmmmm spent $21 here... the food tasted ok but the burgers were horrible to eat. Sloppy messy and greasy. The plates are the same size as the burgers and your hands get nasty and greasy as you try to pickup your burger in an attempt to eat it. Also eat over the burger as grease and blood pour out of it onto the plate when you take a bite. Midway thru I abandoned the bun and just used a knife and fork. It was terrible. Fries were standard crinkle cuts and nothing special.. And the price of the meal warrants waitress service not fast food service. Totally dissatisfied and won't recommend or come back. read more

As a former Avon resident, I stopped at Tom Wahl's while passing through today. I stopped just for the opportunity to have the soft chocolate ice cream which is out of this world good. In the past, I have tried the burgers, fries, onion rings and hots among other items. I found 99% of my dining experiences there were fantastic. I find that their homemade root beer is just a little too sweet for my taste. Bottom line, if your hungry and near Avon, this is a good place to stop. read more

It was national cheeseburger day, I was driving by one of my favorite places growing up that I remembered eating at constantly when I was a kid, so there was only one solution. Even though it made me 10 minutes late to my destination I pulled in, ordered a cheeseburger and a root beer, and went on my way. The burger was amazing, nice and juicy, big, and not expensive at all. The root beer is homemade and amazing. This is the original Tom Wahl's that started this local chain. My husband and I stopped here on the way home from Rochester yesterday, after hearing of it's legendary local status. I had the Wahlburger which included swiss cheese, ham and some "special sauce." I upgraded to a meal with their very own root beer (yum!) and fries, and topped it off with a chocolate malt. My husband had the grilled chicken which was also tasty. My heart jumped a little at the price since this is a walk-up joint like BK -$15 for the two of us. The place clearly gets packed as the dining area was HUGE and we were handed one of those light-up coasters to let us know our food was ready. Good road food if you're in the area. read more

This place is very unsanitary and that's just the food preparation areas that you can see from near the registers! Saw trays full of sliced cheese sitting unrefrigerated with a tube from a soda machine resting on top of them and all of this was next to an open top garbage can full to the brim. I saw the staff handle dirty containers and then handle scoops of hard ice cream, like literally used the dirty glove to take the ice cream out of the scoop and press it into a bowl. Needs a health department review ASAP. read more
