The last time we went to Tomatina was pre-Pandemic time and it has gone way down. The place was half empty when we went on Friday 6pm. Service (1/5): The welcome staff seemed clueless as to what's going on. It took him about 10 minutes to give us the menu. The QR /digital menu did not work. Takeout food leaked out of container. Ambiance (3/5) : nice decor, noise level ok. Pizza boxes scattered all over bar counter. Food (3/5): -baked penne which was quite average - something I could've easily made at home - piadine w caprese tomato - a bit bland - carbonara pizza- tasty but cold, crust was not crispy - pomodoro shrimp pasta - best dish we ordered. Tasty, with good amount of fresh shrimp. Price: market price but not worth the lack of quality and bad service. This restaurant just did not seem to care or want customers around. Went here for restaurant week. Portions were huge for such a great price. Happy hour drinks are very affordable too. The garlic rolls are amazing! I could eat them every day. Service was great as well. I don't understand the ordering at the table so our waitress was happy to take our order for us which was much appreciated. My family and I love Tomatinas! The people working here are nice and friendly! The food is amazing & is always fresh. We love going on Thursdays because my kids eat free. When dining in we love to have Alyssa, Nick and or Scoutt be our waitress. Why because they are awesome! Especially Alyssa, she is always giving my kids stickers and makes my kids feel extra special. Service is slow when you able to wave down the server. The servers rarely check up on us and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. I had to asked the second server for my iced tea and it took forever for them to bring me a take out box. Overpriced for mediocre food. The only good thing is the pizza being thin crust but the restaurant is stingy with the meat for the pizza and pasta. They were even stingy with the Alfredo sauce. I don't understand why people give this restaurant bad reviews. It's my favorite restaurant. I've only ordered three things, garlic rolls, pizza and ravioli. Garlic rolls are the best if only I could have more but my mom keeps eating them too. Comes with a marinara sauce to dip in. Delicious delicious delicious. Ravioli (kids - this is a kid reviewing) is delicious might have too much sauce. Beautiful restaurant, amazingly lighted, only downside is that it can be loud, can be difficult to communicate. . We ate here because there was not enough seating at Marley G's Pizza. The food was ok, but not worth the prices. The garlic knots were pretty good, but then I got my baked penne bolognese which was mostly noodles, the sausage and mushrooms were virtually non-existent. My son's pepperoni pizza was described as " gas station quality pizza".. My other son had the chicken parmigiana which he said was good. Definitely the Best Italian food in Alameda!! I've been eating here since around 2009 so whenever I'm in town I make sure to stop by to eat. I have several favorite dishes there so it's always so hard to choose but Me and everyone in my family's always more than satisfied. I'm totally disappointed that Tomatina's failed on my catering order (again). I called the night before to confirm my order would be ready for pick-up at 11:30a. I arrived just before opening which actually happened at 11:35a only to find out that the chef was running 10-15 minutes late AND would still need time to cook my food. Needless to say, I cancelled my $200 order and am now stuck trying to scrap searching for food to serve my guests. I get that life happens and we have to be flexible. However, I depended on a service I didn't receive. The restaurant had zero back-up plan, did not offer other options, and did not offer anything for my time. I love this place! Their lunch special is great the garlic bread, the salad, and the pasta it's always cooked to perfection the sauce is wonderful. Was craving Italian food, but due to Covid knew we weren't going to be able to sit down and eat. Therefore Door Dashed dinner one night while in Oakland, biggest waste of $53. Ordered from Tomatina because the pictures the food looked amazing on the app. Was not what arrived. Ordered pizza with whole chicken, mushrooms and olives, and this was hands down the driest pizza. We couldn't even stomach it without drinking tons of water. Chicken was dry, was not what we expected. Had to cover the whole pizza in salt to make it edible. The Fettucine Alfredo was even worse. It was noodles and a white sauce at the bottom of the takeout box. This whole meal was a total waste, the Alfredo did not stick to the noodles so it was noodles and some more of their dry chicken. I've had better at Olive Garden right at closing. Will never order from here ever again. read more

The most blazing example of a lazy generation. You scan a code for the menu... not bad... but also for ordering.... aNd paying in advance... make it even worse they have the audacity to want a tip to literally walk out food 6 to 8 feet from the kitchen. Now let's talk about the flaws. Everyone has to share one phone to make an order for the table. The kitchen gets the order at once so food comes out randomly and at a compressed schedule. Appetizer, couple of entrees, another appetizer, entree, etc... then just as you are done the last appetizer showed up.... Let's add some insult to injury. You order on a phone and this is electronically transferred to the kitchen.... And they still managed to screw up two entrees. A real person may have missed a comment or intent... that is understandable. And even normal. Drink refills, boxes, general how are things are like waving SOS from a life raft despite the small interior space. Now food quality. Signature garlic rolls were like hard rubber and even thought to cut with a steak knife (came with calzone). Meatballs, good but the bread they came with was still cold and very stale/dry. Entrees we're good calzone had cold center, but still tasty. One positive, the bruschetta was the best... of course this was the appetizer that arrived well after the meal was concluded. Cutting staff, lack of staff, or just a lazy generation but this is a horrible use of technology for a dining experience. Alameda is filled with amazing restaurants so I can not come close to recommending a chain restaurant in the down town. Thank god Tuckers ice cream was across the street to push this meals memory into the past tense. read more

Tomatina is one of my favorite restaurants to go to in Alameda. I like to take friends and family there because the food is consistently good and so is the service. My best friend and I frequent there often and we have our favorite starters ( garlic rolls, bruschetta) , drinks ( hard peach lemonade) and pasta dishes ( cheese ravioli and build your own) . We went for lunch today and got our favorite server, Karina. She's so friendly and she always gets our orders right, even when we have substitutions and allergies to work around. Tomatina is a nice restaurant, their interior is nice. I would highly recommend coming him for a drink (beer, wine, and etc), but not really for the food. I ordered the 8 piece garlic rolls, pescatora, and chicken pesto pizza. The garlic rolls was very bland; all the oil was on the bottom of the plate and the garlic didn't even stick onto the roll. The rolls were very hard and hard to chew. The pescatora was a pesto sauce with pasta and salmon; the pesto sauce was filled with oil and was all over the plate. It was very bland to the point that had to ask the waitress to return it and get something else. The waitress was nice enough to get me the ravioli dish; it was okay, but still bland. I think the chicken pesto pizza was the only good one there; a lot of flavor and the presentation was nice also. Overall, I wouldn't come back unless for casual drinks. read more

Thus, a yelp search resulted in a hot and new business at 1428 Park Street - Utzutzu. We climbed the flight of stairs to the second level, only to find out from the hostess that it was a sushi bar. They did not serve dinner. Okay, we had to nix it on Utzutzu. We thanked the hostess for being helpful and left to search for another restaurant. I then suggested Linguini's Cafe Pasta & Vino as the next option. Oops, I almost forgot that was the restaurant that messed up my order of spaghetti with fresh garlic and mushroom. They served me a plate of spaghetti with just garlic and no mushrooms, and charged me for what I ordered, not what they served me. No price adjustment and no comping the meal. Nix that suggestion. Girlfriend suggested this restaurant. I'm glad she did. I have never dined here. I always wanted to whenever I was in the area for the events on Park Street. The hostess immediately acknowledged and greeted us. She told us to take a seat anywhere in the restaurant and handed us three menus - one for happy hour, the second one was for the monthly special (April) and the third was the dinner menu. Shortly thereafter a waitress brought us glasses of water and allowed us time to peruse the dinner menu. The ambiance is nice. I even noticed an outdoor patio area in the back of the restaurant. Unfortunately, I did not get up from my seat to take a look-see. Perhaps another time (during summer) when I am in the area. Eats: Garlic rolls, Caesar salad, lasagna and chicken Marsala. The garlic rolls were loaded with minced garlic and cheese, and drizzled with olive oil. It also came with marinara sauce. The Caesar salad I had was fresh, topped with anchovies, and quite tasty. (It isn't a Caesar salad without anchovies... ha!) Girlfriend said the lasagna was okay. She said there wasn't enough fennel sausage in it. However, she was eyeing my chicken Marsala, wishing she had ordered what I had instead of the lasagna. Surprisingly the two slices of chicken breast fillet were moist, topped with Marsala sauce and seasoned mushrooms. This entree was on point, along with a fresh steamed vegetable medley of broccoli and cauliflower and spaghetti noodles. Service was attentive. The waitress was friendly and pleasant. Return visit? Most definitely for the Caesar salad with anchovies and a pizza. Yum! read more

Me and my friends visited this location yesterday for my graduation celebration and we absolutely enjoyed the food. It was so good that we even came back two days in a row just to have the pasta trio which is personally my new favorite. If you are someone who enjoy a variety of pasta cuisines I highly recommend. Tomatina's...You've lost a star from me. I used to love this place. It's not the food, it's the service. Today I came in for lunch with my son and the server "greeted" us when we entered. She basically told us to "sit wherever." We found a booth. Then, instead of giving us menus, she gave us directions to order on a QR code. That's fine, BUT I looked around and all of the other tables were having service and menus. I waved down to the manager and she was super kind. She took our drink order, our order, etc. Five stars for the manager! She asked me who sat us and I told her...The server had a bewildered look on her face and didn't look too happy. The fun part about going to a restaurant is having good service, and being served. Please, don't take that away from your establishment and make this an impersonal experience with QR codes. read more
